Kenneth Wayne Cross, 57, of Bristol Tennessee, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol, a retired employee of Bristol Steel and Iron Works and was of the Baptist faith.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Melissa Cross Phillips, Bristol Tennessee; a son, Jeffrey Wayne Cross, Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Marie) Denton, Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna M. Dye
RICHLANDS -- Mrs. Edna Mae Cox Dye, 74, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in a Tazewell hospital.
She was a native of Russell County, was of the Holiness faith and the widow of Have O. Dye.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice F. Webb, Richlands, Sue Dye Lowery, Roanoke, and Hilda "Sis" Lynch, Cedar Bluff; three sons, Jerry Wayne "Larry" Dye, Yorktown, Va., James Harry Dye, Doran, Va., and Milton "Moe" Dye, Richlands; three sisters, Judy Lambert, Cedar Bluff, Ellen Elswick, Richlands, and Josie Plaster, Swords Creek; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Shirley A. Gash
MARIETTA, Ga. -- Dr. Shirley Ann Gash, 63, formerly of Abingdon, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998.
She recently retired from Emory & Henry College as Director of Career Planning and Placement. She was a graduate of Emory & Henry College, Emory University and Georgia State University.
Survivors include a sister, Carolyn G. Shumate, Marietta; and two nieces.
Funeral services and interment will be held Monday in Arlington, Ga.

Vivian Henderson
Mrs. Vivian Henderson, of 208 Springdale Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999.
She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church for over 70 years, the chancel choir, the United Methodist Women, and the Paramount Study and Social Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Katie, Joan and Dawn; a son-in-law; and three grandsons, Eric, Roger and Trevor.

Charles C. Keen
KEEN MOUNTAIN, Va. -- Mr. Charles Curtis Keen, 70, of the Contrary section of Buchanan County, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Jewell Smokeless Coal Company, and a member of the Baptist Bible Church, at Pilgrims Knob, Va. He had served for many years as trustee for the Esau-Rife Cemetery, at Keen Mountain,Va.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Horn Keen; a son, Gregory Curtis Keen, Grundy; two daughters, Mrs. Pete (Mitzi Bonita) Crawford, Cedar Bluff, and Tania Emilette Osborne, Pounding Mill; his mother, Mrs. Julia Horn Keene, Patterson, Va.; three brothers, Harvey Keen, Pilgrims Knob, James Keene and Roger Keene, both of Patterson, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Horn, Doran, Va., Mrs. Larry (Oakie) Pettry, Statesville, N.C., Mrs. Lovis Owens, Beckley, W.Va., Mrs. Larry (Wanda) Sparks, Oakwood, Va., and Mrs. Leon (Opal) Davis, Patterson, Va.; and two grandsons.

Sanford J. Nelson
BLUFF CITY -- Sanford J. "Jack" Nelson, 63, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Bristol Tennessee, a U.S. Air Force veteran serving in Germany from 1952-1956, and was retired from NCR and Bristol Compressors. He was most recently employed with CMT Sporting Goods, as the supervisors of shipping and receiving.
Mr. Nelson was a former member of the Bristol. Elks Lodge No. 232, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Bristol.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Pullen Nelson; two daughters, Denise N. Beyer and Teresa N. Pendergrass, both of Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Sanford J. "Sandy" Nelson Jr., and Douglas E. Nelson, both of Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Barbara N. Cross, Bristol Virginia; six grandchildren; an aunt; an uncle and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl Ramey
Pearl Ramey, 86, of Bristol Virginia, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Clintwood, had spent most of her life in Haysi, before moving to Bristol in 1996. She was a former member of the Senior Citizens, in Clinchco, Va., and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Haysi.
She was the widow of Robert E. "Bob" Ramey Sr.
Survivors include a son, William D. Ramey, Bristol Virginia; four sisters, Betty Harceg, Denver, Alice Stevenson, Eureka, Calif., Eva Hale, Ruckersville, Va., and Guyeth Counts, Irvine, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred L. Riffe
GRUNDY -- Mildred Ann Looney Riffe, 63, of the Lynn Camp section of Route 1, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at her home.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1955, and attended Pikeville College and Southwest Virginia Community College.
She was a retired from the Buchanan County School System, having taught there for 19 years.
Survivors include her husband, Hursel "Jack" Riffe; a son, Timothy Riffe, Grundy; her mother, Mrs. Mona McClanahan Looney, Grundy; a sister, Sherry Daugherty, Wingate, N.C.; a brother, James Looney, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a granddaughter.

Dawn E. Sheehan
Dawn Emmons Sheehan, 66, of 107 Hickory Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of South Portland, Maine, had lived in West Hartford, Conn., before moving to Bristol where she had made her home for the past ten years.
She was a member of Bellmont Presbyterian Church and the Womens Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the Haven of Rest and an avid Bingo player. She was the widow of Lewis C. Sheehan.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Hadam and Diane Sheehan, both of South Windham, Conn., and Brenda Miano, Hartford, Conn.; a son, Michael Sheehan, Sterling, Va.; two brothers, Elmer "Bud" Emmons, Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Robert Emmons, Portland, Maine; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

BIG STONE GAP -- Nellie Mae Shirley, 98, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Heritage Hall Health Care, Big Stone Gap.
She was a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., had lived in Derby, Va., and Big Stone Gap.
She was a member of the
Williams Chapel AME Zion Church, in Big Stone Gap, and the widow of James Shirley.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
