Hursal R. Ingle, 59, of Bristol Virginia died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 in Wellmont Hospice House.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a former employee of General Shell Bris-Blox.
He was a member of Calvary Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, Norma S. Ingle; a son, Doug Ingle, Bristol Virginia; three sisters, Marie Leonard and Vic Fleenor, both of Bristol Virginia and Phyllis Ingle, Piney Flats; four brothers, Wyndom Ingle and Charlie Ingle, both of Bristol Virginia; Howard Ingle, Dublin, Va., and Raymond Ingle, Mendota, Va.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ferrell Lester
GRUNDY -- Ferrell Lester, 68, of the Poplar Creek section of Route 2, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member for 17 years of Bethlehem Old Regular Baptist Church No. 2, and a disabled coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Clevinger Lester; two daughters, Mrs. Dale (Peggy) Cox, Vansant, and Mrs. Neil (Kim) Harmon, Kodak, Tenn.; a son, James Lando Lester, Lapine, Ore.; his stepmother, Mrs. Dollie Lockhart Lester, Grundy; five sisters, Julie Viers, Vansant, Liz Compton, Vermillion, Ohio, Okie Owens, Cleo, Mich., Joyce Sykes, London, Ohio, and Pam Mays, Abingdon; a brother, Jeff Lester, Grundy; three granddaughters; and a grandson.

RICHMOND -- Doris Evelyn Stamper Messer, 66, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Richmond.
She was a Past Matron of Holly Chapter No. 27 OES and Past Matron of Harmony Court No. 11, Order of the Amaranth.
Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Lee Messer; a daughter, Lisa S. Messer; a son, B. Keith Messer; a brother, Jack M. Stamper, Big Stone Gap; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

MARION -- Esther Pauline "Polly" Patton, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Marion and a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was a retired employee of Southwestern State Hospital after 34 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel Mark Patton; two sisters; Mrs. Gordon (Ruth) Patton and Helen Tilson, both of Marion; two brothers, Richard Romans and Bennett Romans, both of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

NORTON -- Bailey Cheryl Porter, infant daughter of Greg and Heather Porter, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Norton Community Hospital.

BLOUNTVILLE -- Edith Bridwell Simmerman, 93, of 5481 Highway 126, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Sullivan County and a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church, Bristol Tennessee.
She was the widow of John Paul Simmerman.
Survivors include a sister, Zelda Bridwell Freeman, Kingsport; and two nieces.

Hazel Jane Spangler, 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, in NHC Health Care of Bristol.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol, a homemaker, a member of Marthina Chapel and the widow of the Rev. William E. Spangler.
Survivors include two sons, Frank Spangler, Bristol Tennessee, and Henry Spangler, Greenville, Tenn; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

ELIZABETHTON -- James Harold Welch, 80, of 429 East H St., died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Barrett, W.Va., had lived in Elizabethton most of his life and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Elizabethton. He was a retired employee of Trammell Construction Company, serving 30 years, and was self-employed for 24 years as a master carpenter and cabinet builder.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Miller Welch; a daughter, Janice Mottern, Georgetown, Ky.; three sons, Richard Welch, Hendersonville, Tenn., David Welch, Elizabethton, and Ronnie Welch, Nashville; two brothers, Dewey Welch and Pat Welch, both of Barrett, W.Va.; a sister, Hazel Dickens, Madison, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Pauline E. Beckett, 91, of Westwood Health Care Center, Bluefield, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in Westwood.
She was a native of Bluefield, had lived in Athens, and was a member of the Athens Baptist Church and Athens Chapter No. 33, Order of The Eastern Star.
She was the widow of Thomas A. Beckett.
Survivors include two daughters, June Kanton, Fairview Park, Ohio, and Mrs. Ray (Elizabeth) Eskew, Abingdon; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Sue) Burgess, Roanoke; and a grandson.

GRUNDY -- Onsby Belcher, 67, of the Belcher's Fork section, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, attended the Regular Baptist Church and was a retired miner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Shelby) Street and Ms. Edith Belcher, both of Harman, Va.; two sisters, Audrey McClanahan and Brenda Kay Looney, both of Harman; five brothers, Jerry Belcher, Ronnie Belcher and Jimmy Belcher, all of Harman, Leon Belcher, Haysi, and Ralph Belcher, Fort Worth, Texas; four granddaughters; and a grandson.

Herman E. Broyles
GRUNDY -- Herman Eugene "Sonny" Broyles, 57, of the Lesters Fork section of Route 1, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in the University of Virginia Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and attended the Blackey Baptist Church.
He was a 1959 graduate of Hurley High School, a 1969 graduate of Pikeville College, and a 1972 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a former coal operator, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
He was a retired transportation supervisor with the Buchanan County School System, where he served for 15 years. He was a former member of the School Board Selection Committee.
He served as assistant scoutmaster and committee member for Boy Scout Troop 741, Hurley, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow, serving with the Tomahaken Chapter of the Sequoyah Lodge. He was an active participant in scouting activities throughout Buchanan and Dickenson Counties.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Blake Broyles; two sons, David Eugene Broyles and Michael John Broyles, both of Grundy; his parents, Dave A. and Lydia Mae
Smith Broyles, Grundy; two sisters, Mrs. Starlin (Sandra Sue) Dotson, Hurley, and Mrs. Paul (Bernice) Chaney, Abingdon; and a granddaughter.
