CLINTWOOD -- Verna Boggs, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
She had resided in Pound and had lived in Dickenson County since 1931. She was a member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Ernest Boggs.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Boggs, Clintwood, and Joe Boggs, Abingdon; a sister, Monnie Stoicheff, Cincinnati; a brother, Bill Tackett, Jenkins, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

CLINTWOOD -- Blanche Dotson, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and a member of Yates Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Dotson; two sons, Roger Dotson, Bristol Virginia, and Danny Dotson, Bristol Tennessee; a daughter, Jody Stanley, Church Hill; two brothers, Delbert Boggs and Virgil Boggs, both of Clintwood; three sisters, Rebel Salyers, Coeburn, Selmar Baldwin, Fall Branch, Tenn., and Jean Hayes, Clintwood; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

MARION -- Iona Elizabeth Griffitts, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church, Sugar Grove, Va.

Delmar Hunter Herington Jr., 51, of 1502 Kentucky Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol, a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School and a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Nidiffer Herington; his mother, Mary A. Herington, Bristol Tennessee;; two sisters, Debby Michaels and Teresa Burchett, both of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Mitchell Sigmund Kaplon, 68, of 901 Windsor Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.
He was a native of Indiana, had lived most of his life in Bristol and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kaplon; three daughters, Michelle Perkins and Karen Kaplon, both Indiana, and Cassie Howerton, Texas; two brothers, Ted Kaplon, Knoxville, and Francis Kaplon, Indiana; three sisters, Lucy Crosslin and Sylvia Rovick, both of Indiana, and Patricia Johnson, Texas; and three stepsons, Freddie Taylor, Shawn Taylor and J.J. Taylor, all of Bristol Tennessee.

BIG STONE GAP -- Ruby Marcum, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Heritage Hall Healthcare, Big Stone Gap.
She was a native of Inman, Va., had lived in the Southern Section of Big Stone Gap over 55 years, and attended the First Pentecostal Church and Ayers Chapel Church, in Big Stone Gap.
She was the widow of Jake Marcum.
Survivors include her daughter, Doris Marie Marcum James, Big Stone Gap; two sons, J.B. Marcum, Livingston, Texas, and Jake Squire Marcum Jr., Greenville, Ohio; a sister, Charlotte Howlett, Silver Spring, Md.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Cecil C. Maxfield
CASTLEWOOD -- Cecil C. "Cotton" Maxfield, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Russell County, a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA Local No. 1256. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Maxfield.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Jim (Joyce) Greer, Mrs. John (Ruth) Fields, Mrs. John (Glenna) Jones, Mrs. John M. (Betty) Greer and Mrs. Mars (Doris) Hall, all of Dante, and Mrs. Harold (Judy) Porter, Castlewood; three sons, Eugene Maxfield, Castlewood, Robert G. "Boozer" Robinson, Dante, and James Harold Robinson, Conover, N.C.; 28 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON -- Clyde William McCroskey, 95, of the Greendale Community, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and a retired farmer. He was a member of the Valley View Presbyterian Church of Beaver Creek Mission.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Cunningham McCroskey; a son, Ronald McCroskey, Abingdon; three daughters, Geraldine McCroskey Stone, Bristol Virginia, Peggy McCroskey Orfield, Bristol Tennessee, and Barbara McCroskey Stewart, Warrenton, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Ingle and Mrs. Mildred Worley, both of Abingdon; four grandsons; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
