RALEIGH, N.C. -- Verna Coffey Workman, 93, formerly of Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Bristol Virginia, where she sang in the choir for over 40 years.
She was also active in the Sunday school and the WMU.
After moving to Raleigh five years ago, she became an active member of First Baptist Church, Raleigh.
She was also a member and former president of the Bristol Music Club, former president and life member of the Virginia Federation of Music Clubs.
She was an active participant in literary and garden clubs.
She was the widow of Charles W. Coffey and Robert Workman.
Survivors include three sons, Dr. C.E. Coffey, Atlanta, Ga., David L. Coffey, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Dr. H.T. Coffey, Carlsbad, Calif.; a daughter, Evelyn C. Barrett, Cary, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, William Pardue, Syracuse, N.Y.; and a sister-in-law.

CLINCHCO, Va. -- Howard Dane Clifton, 39, formerly of Buchanan County, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Buchanan County and was a disabled coal miner.
He was a member of Clintwood Masonic Lodge No. 66.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Stanford Clifton; four sons, Jonathan Clifton, Joshua Clifton and Ross Clifton, of the home, and Eric Stilwell, Honaker; his parents, Guster and Darva Osborne Clifton, Abingdon; and two brothers, Rett Clifton and Jason Clifton, both of Bristol Virginia.

Smith Henderson, 79, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in the Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, N.C.
She was a native of McDowell County, W.Va.
She, along with her late husband, owned and operated Northfork Laundromat and later Northfork Grocery for many years.
She was the widow of Vance Carson Henderson.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ron (Jean) Taylor, Washington C.H., Ohio, and Mrs. C.W. (Barbara) Blizzard, Bluefield, Va.; a son, Michael W. "Olga" Henderson, Charlotte; a brother, John S. Smith, Bethesda, Md.; six granddaughters; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

OAKWOOD -- Lacie Edith Mabe, 72, formerly of Richlands, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Russell County, Va. and had lived in Oakwood for the past three months, moving from Richlands.
She was a member of Oakwood Full Gospel Church and owner of Dixie Carry-Out Restaurant, Baltimore, Md. Survivors include four daughters, Reba Darlene Russ, Oakwood, Sandra Lou Garland, Richlands, Sherry Gwynn Lawrence, Cosby, Tenn., and Mary Lisa Sparks, Drill, Va.; a son, Stephen Paul Mabe, Phenix City, Ala.; three sisters, Virginia Johnson, Rowe, Va., Ruth Smith, Richlands, and Wanda Mitchell, Rosedale; five brothers, Gaines Stevens, Honaker, Elden Cook and Douglas Cook, both of Rowe, J.C. Cook, Abingdon, and Donald Lee Cook, Manassas; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ollie W. Rouse, 87, of Bristol Tennessee died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Cambridge House.
He was a native of Bristol Tennessee and a retired employee of Bristol Tennessee Water Department.
He was a charter member of Anderson Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Edna Mae Turner, Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Robert L. Rouse, Bristol Tennessee, O.W. Rouse, Bluff City, and Bill R. Rouse,
Johnson City; two sisters, Edith Wills and Lola Harless, both of Bristol Tennessee; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lester William Smithson, 81, of 796 Beidleman Creek Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and retired from the Bristol Virginia Utility Board after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lettie Clark Smithson.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Graybeal, Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Marion Smithson, Bristol Tennessee, Woodrow Smithson, Finley, Ohio, and J.C. Smithson, Bluff City; and a granddaughter.

WESTFIELD, Ind. -- Ethel Wanda Nash Waters, 83, formerly of Wise, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, in Lakeview Health Care, Indiana.
She was a retired RN, serving as public health nurse in Richmond from 1965-1985, an RN for Dr. George Waters, from 1992-1995, and also served as a private duty nurse in Indianapolis.
She was the widow of George Waters Sr.
Survivors include a son, Dr. George Waters Jr., Westfield; a daughter, Teri K. Walker, Lexington, S.C.,; three sisters, Trula Skeen and Helen Mayor, both of Wise, and Ruble Stevens, Richmond; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
