Ruth Reed, of 2437 Volunteer Parkway, Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Russell County and had spent her childhood in Dante and Hamblin, Va., before moving to Bristol 50 years ago.
She was a member of Westhighlands Church and was retired from Gordon Garment Company.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie Reed; two daughters, Kathy Miller, Blountville, and Nancy Gilley, Kingsport; two sons, Dennis Reed and Curtis Reed, both of Bristol; four sisters, Margaret Walters, Erwin, Louise Wright, St. Paul, Peggy Meade, Coeburn, and Janet Vanover, Grundy; two brothers, Donald King, Bristol and Tommy King, Bluff City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON -- Paul Salyers, 72, of 14622 Wallace Pike, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

MARION -- Jessie Imajean `Pud' Sexton, 44, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Smyth County.
Survivors include two sons, Greg Sexton and Anthony Sexton; her mother and father, Troy Vance and Susie Anderson, Sugar Grove; five sisters, Lucille Shuler and Norma Davis, both of Marion, Nancy Crouse, Chilhowie, Juanita Stone and Cyndi Sage, both of Sugar Grove; four brothers, Scott Anderson, Marion, Dwight Anderson, Troy Anderson and Jeff Anderson, all of Sugar Grove; and three grandchildren.

Richard M. Slyman Jr.
PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Dr. Richard M. Slyman Jr., 58, of 7245 Box Elder Drive, died Friday, Nov. 6, 1998, in North Bay Hospital, New Port, Fla.
He was a native of Spruce Pine, N.C., and had lived in Bristol Tennessee and Orlando, Fla., before moving to Port Richey.
He graduated from Tennessee High School in 1958 and received a B.A. in Psychology from King College in 1963. He was awarded a Master of Divinity Degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.
In 1978, he earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Louisville Theological Seminary.
He was a former pastor of Bethany Presbyterian in Kingsport. In recent years, he had served as minister of the St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, Orlando, as well as First Presbyterian Church, Port Richey. He was a member of the Tampa Bay Presbytery and a life member of Sertoma.
He served on various committees on Presbytery and Synod level, as well as serving as moderator of the former St. John's Presbytery P.C.U.S.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Logan Henderson Slyman; a son, Richard Mark Slyman III, Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Elizabeth Slyman Thornton, Atlanta, Ga.; his mother, Mrs. Sadie Kassem Slyman, Bristol; two brothers, James Slyman, Knoxville, and Ernest Slyman, Kew Garden, N.Y.

Guy J. Tallman
Guy J. Tallman, 64, of 21 Timber Ridge Road, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol.
He was retired from Bristol Compressors, where he worked in the maintenance department and was a member of Lynwood Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jerrie Tallman; Bristol Virginia; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Tracey) Cole, Bristol Virginia; two sons, Mike Tallman, Colorado, and Randy Tallman, Sandusky, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Wingate, Laura Lee Owens, both of Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Wyndon "Sonny" Tallman and Alvin Tallman, both of Bristol Virginia; four granddaughters; and three grandsons.

Lela E. Weatherly, 92, of Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998 in the Avante Rehab Center, Roanoke.
She was a lifelong resident of Wahsington County and a retired employee of Faucettes.
She was the widow of Hiram C. Weatherly and was a member of Three Springs Baptist Church. She had last attended Kingsways Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Shankle and Carolyn Morrison, both of Birstol Virginia; a son, Walne E. Weatherly, Bristol Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

BLUFF CITY -- Henry Floyd White, 86, of 585 Woods Road, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, in James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital.
He was a native of
Johnson County, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Fletcher White.
He attended the Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Bemberg Corp.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army/Air Corps, serving in World War II and was a member of Bluff City VFW Post No. 3382.
Survivors include seven sons, Paul H. White, Gray, Tenn., Floyd C. White, Thomas C. White, Gary W. White and Robert E. White, all of Bluff City, Kenneth G. White, Rogersville, and Douglas M. White, Blountville; a daughter, Patsy C. Meade, Columbia S.C.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

MAVISDALE, Va. -- Nellie Hall Clevinger, 83, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Wise County and a member of the Rowe Pentecostal Holiness Church, at Rowe, Va.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Clevinger; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Shortridge, Rowe, and Mrs. Ruth Johnson, Hickory, N.C.; and a brother, Earl Hall, Rowe.

RICHLANDS -- Ruby McCloud Patrick Colley, 80, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Richlands, a member of the Chapel of Love Church, a member of Clinch Valley Medical Center Auxiliary, a member of the Casey-Short VFW Post 9640 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Richlands Order of Eastern Star No. 104.
She was the widow of her first husband, Arland Patrick, and her second husband, Waldon Colley.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Carolyn) Nelson, Richlands; a son, John Thomas Patrick, Bangor, Maine; two brothers, Tom McCloud, Kingsport, and Bob McCloud, Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

PINEY FLATS -- Willie Lee Curtis, 76, of 428 Queen Anne Court, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, at Mountain Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Piney Flats and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired employee of Wolfe Brothers Furniture Company, Piney Flats.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Tester of the home; a sister, Gerdie Frye,
Johnson City; a granddaughter, Tina Crowe, Piney Flats; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Thomas W. Fritz
BLUFF CITY -- Thomas William Fritz, 78, of 1489 Ryder Church Road, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bluff City area, a retired employee of Cortrim Lumber and was employed with Bristol Door for 35 years.
He was a member of Beidleman Presbyterian Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher in the adult class. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Craft Fritz; four sons, William Thomas Fritz, Elizabethton, Robert L. Fritz and John H. Fritz, both of Bluff City, and Earnest S. Fritz, Bristol Tennessee; three daughters, Katherine L. Wingo, Bristol Tennessee, Judy A. Smithson and Charmie L. Lingerfelt, both of Bluff City; two brothers, Roy K. Fritz and John L. Fritz, both of Bluff City; three sisters, Blanche Sluder and Mabel Williams, both of Bluff City, and Helen Owens, Missouri; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a niece.
