POUND -- Gerald Frederick "Fred" Short, 72, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Marie Vance Short; a son, Ricky Shortt, Maryland; a sister, Rita Coughlin, Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers, Cecil Shortt, Wakesville, Nev., and Vernon Shortt, Roanoke; and a grandchild.

NICKELSVILLE -- Nannie Della McReynolds Stansberry, 75, of Route 1, Box 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was a native of Wise County, had lived in Scott County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Log House Church and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of Howard Stansberry.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. William Jr. (Frieda) Burke, Hardy, Va., Mrs. Fielding "Bud" Jr. (Cleta) Isaacs and Kimberly Gillenwater, both of Nickelsville, Mrs. Ira "Earnie" (June) Franklin, Castlewood, Krista Stansberry, Church Hill, Tenn., and Minnie "Sue" Tiller, Lebanon; three sons, Paul V. Stansberry, Staunton, Va., Tommy A. Stansberry, Nickelsville, and Robert Stansberry, Hawthorne, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Sylvia) Davis, Coeburn, Mrs. Julius (Gloria) Stanley, Dickenson County, Va., and Virginia "Den" Powers, Dungannon; four brothers, Hazelton "Hayde" McReynolds, Dungannon, Ballard McReynolds, Cleveland, Va., Roger McReynolds, Nickelsville, and Thaddeaus "Tad" McReynolds, Carfax, Va.; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

BLAND, Va. -- Catherine Iola "Granny" Steffey, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Konnarock, a member of the Church of God and the widow of Emmett Lee Steffey. She was active in the Senior Citizens and the 4-H Apple Peeling.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Steffey Scott, Bland; five sons, Frank Lee Steffey and Wilburn Eugene Steffey, both of Wise, Stanley Bruce Steffey, Coeburn, Curtis Leon Steffey, Rocky Gap, and Emmett Roger Steffey, St. Paul; a sister, Evelyn Bowles, Bastian, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-granddaughter.

Reba M. Bouton, 83, of 716 Randolph St., Bristol, Va., died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, in NHC Health Care of Bristol.
She was a native of Big Stone Gap, and spent most of her life in Bristol. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and attended Fellowship Chapel.
She was the widow of Duard B. Bouton.
Survivors include two sons, Jackie Bouton, Bristol Tennessee, and Bobby Bouton, Bucyrus, Kan.; a sister, Della Bryant, Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren, Donnie Bouton, Bristol Tennessee, Eddie Bouton, Bristol Virginia, Timothy Bouton, Bucyrus, Kan., and Hillary Bouton, Spartanburg, S.C.; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. -- Michael Anthony Clark, 34, of 444 Frankfort Road, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Tri-County Baptist Hospital, Lagrange, Ky.
He was a line technician for Shelby Energy.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Alexander Clark; a daughter, Melissa Clark, Shelbyville, Ky.; a son, Travis Clark, Shelbyville; his mother, Gladys Barton Clark, Lebanon, Va.; two brothers, Joe Clark, Buena Vista, Va., and William Laurie, Lebanon; and his grandmother, Lola Barton, Akron, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Shelbyville.

Mary C. Eyler
GULFPORT, Miss. -- Mrs. Mary Candler Eyler, 95, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Gulfport.
She was a native of Villa Rica, Ga., attended Georgia State College for Women and Columbia University. She studied English folk dance in the British Isles, retired from collegiate education and was recently inducted into the Milligan College Athletic Hall of Fame.
She was a World War II and Korea Red Cross volunteer and a regular volunteer for 60 years. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was the widow of Clement Manley Eyler.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Soukup, Gulfport, Anne Clodfelter, Brownstown, Ind.; a brother, William C. Candler, Carrollton, Ga.; two sisters, Lucy Talley, Carrollton, Ga., Margaret Underwood, Cartersville, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday in Cookeville, Tenn.

Carl R. Ferguson
KINGSPORT -- Carl Russell Ferguson, 83, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Wexford House, in Kingsport.
He was a native of Russell County, moved to Kingsport in 1936 and retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after over 44 years of service in the Power and Service Division.
He was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge No. 688.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Palmer Ferguson.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Russell (Anna) Cole, Eads, Tenn., and Mrs. Terry (Elaine) Griffith, Ware Shoals, S.C.; a son, Henry Thomas Ferguson,
Johnson City; four sisters, Roxie McGinnis, Anna Ruth Rutherford and Virginia Morrell, all of Bristol Tennessee, and Mabel Girard, Vista, Calif.; five brothers, Paul Ferguson, Gate City, Kyle Ferguson,
Carter Ferguson and Jess Ferguson, all of Lebanon, and Thomas Ferguson, West Minister, Colo.; five grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

BLUFF CITY -- Orris E. Hodges, 90, of 1041 Walnut Grove Road, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and retired from Univac. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Hodges.
He was a member and deacon of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church, a member of Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge No. 444, and the Chinquapin Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Susan) Reece, Bluff City; three sons, Charles L. Hodges and Gil Hodges, both of Bluff City, and David Hodges, DeLand, Fla.; a sister, Ennis Hicks, Morristown, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

COEBURN -- Bobby Lundy Salyer, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol Tennessee.
She was the widow of Charles Orbin Salyer Jr., and a member of the First Baptist Church, Coeburn.
Survivors include two sons, Larry C. Salyer, Coeburn, and Monty L. Salyer, St. Paul; two daughters, Jody Rose and Charlotte Stevens, both of Coeburn; a sister, Beaurita Hartsock, Coeburn; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

BURKES GARDEN, Va. -- Francis Dulany "Du" Snapp Jr., 67, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in a Bluefield, W.Va., hospital.
He was a native of Shawver's Mill, Va., and a lifelong dairy farmer in Burkes Garden. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Southern States, Tazewell Cooperative, and served on the Board of Directors of the Burkes Garden Cemetery Association. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Helen
Brown Snapp; two daughters, Julia Phillips of the home, and Mrs. Wayne (Ernestine "Pete") Acord, Burkes Garden; three sons, Francis "Frank" Snapp III, Stephen Michael "Bo" Snapp and Tim Snapp, all of Burkes Garden; two brothers, Richard O. Snapp, Burkes Garden, and Phylip D. Snapp, Wytheville; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
