SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Gladys V. Watson Smith, 66, of 53 Merrill Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Damascus, had resided in the Springfield area for the past 31 years, and was a member of the VFW, of Wilbraham. She had also resided in Florida, Guam, Louisanna and Virginia.
Survivors include her husband, Mitchell E. Smith; three sons, Ronnie E. Smith, Elk, Washington, Frank
Smith and Garland L. Smith, both of Springfield; three daughters, Linda D. Keller, Pamela M.
Smith and Stephanie L. Owens, all of Springfield; two brothers, Reelia Watson, Emory, Va., and James Watson, Meadowview; two sisters, Mae Heath, Lodi, Va., and Margaret Rucker, Columbus, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday in Indian Orchard, Mass., with burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.

HURLEY -- Lee R. Stacy, 78, of the Brushy Fork section, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in the Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Grundy.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Charles Stacy; a daughter, Princie Jane Stacy of the home; three sons, Buford, Van and Joseph Stacy all of the home; a sister, Tennessee Crum, Kentucky; four brothers, Estel Stacy and Ernie Stacy, both of Grundy, and Boyd Stacy and Henry Stacy, both of Hurley; and several nieces and nephews.

NORTON -- Bertha S. Stallard, 74, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital.
She attended the Tacoma Holiness Christian Church of God and was the widow of Connie M. Stallard.
Survivors include a son, Roger Bush, Norton; four daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Lane and Mrs. Jeff (Earlene) Bays, both of Norton, Mrs. Clarence (Betty) Craig, Roanoke, and Mrs. Neil (Bobbie) Steele, Wise; a sister, Dorothy H. Cooper, Dayton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

VANSANT -- Elmer Stiltner, 84, of the Deskins area, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy.
He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County, attended the Old Regular Baptist Church and was a former member of the Buchanan County Electoral Board.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 17, Grundy, a retired employee of Harman Mining Company and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local Union No. 7025.
Survivors include his wife, Malissa Kathleen Robinson Stiltner; four daughters, Mrs. Johnny (Jean) Harper, Palm Bay, Fla., Mrs. Allen (Janice) Deskins, Swords Creek, Va., Ms. Stella Stiltner, Bristol Tennessee, and Mrs. Rocky (Barbara) Thomas, Bristol Virginia; two sons, Harold Stiltner, Powhatan, Va., and Jack Stiltner, Vansant; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Ethel) Fletcher, Davenport, Va.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

LEBANON -- Della Mae Breeding, 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Jo Ella Britt, Williamsburg, Va., Fannie J. Cox and Mary Frances Thompson, both of Richmond; five brothers, Davis Breeding, Baltimore, Kemper Gilmer Breeding, Kissimmee, Fla., Glenn H. Breeding, Lebanon, Robert Franklin Breeding, Richmond, and George B. Breeding, Castlewood; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

William Clendenen
William "Bill" Clendenen, 80, of 11693 Wallace Pike, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, in NHC Health Care of Bristol.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, attended King College and received a bachelor of science degree and a master's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He taught at the vocational architectural school in Indian County, Pa.
He was a member of York Masonic Lodge AF&AM and VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post No. 6975. He was a disabled veteran and a member of Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Misko Clendenen; two sons, Dr. William W. Clendenen, Salisbury, Md., and James R. Clendenen, Indiana, Pa.; a sister, Eva Price, Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Charles Clendenen and Robert "Bob" Clendenen, both of Bristol Virginia; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a lifelong resident of the area, was of the Baptist faith and was employed as matron at Appalachia Towers.

Patricia Hawthorne Fleenor, 96, of 196 Carlton Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1998, at the home of her daughter.
She was a native of Meadowview and a homemaker.
She was a lifelong member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and the widow of Scott S. Fleenor Sr.

Edna Stout Giles, 73, of NHC Health Care of Bristol, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was retired from United Telephone Company. She was a member of Anderson Church of God.
Survivors include two sisters, Georgia Ruth Ward, Decatur, Ill., and Lela S. Miller, Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Ina B. Griffin, 89, of 97-I Tulip Grove Circle, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in Greystone Health Care Center, Blountville.
She was the widow of B.L. Griffin Sr., was of the Protestant faith and owner of Griffin Clothing Company.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Griffin-Anthony, Bristol Tennessee; a son, B.L. Griffin Jr., Independence, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth) O'Dell, Blountville; a granddaughter, Ina Laura Anthony-James; three grandsons, Michael, Mark and Danny Griffin; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
