ATKINS, Va. -- Dave R. Evans, 79, of Rocky Hollow Road, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Marie Evans; four daughters, Linda Fazzari, New Jersey, Phyllis Gillespie, Rural Retreat, Donna King, Marion, and Sandra Walls, Chilhowie; four sons, Roger Evans and Dennis Evans, both of Marion, Gary Evans, Sugar Grove, and Jeffery Evans, Abingdon; three sisters, Katherine Pocius, Pennsylvania, Anna Mae Shorter, Maryland and Emma Farmer, North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

WHITETOP, Va. -- Vernie Lee Hart, 79, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Whitetop, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Hart and his second wife, Mamie Hart.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Lewis, Whitetop; one son, Ralph Hart, Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Ernest Hart, Abingdon; one sister, Edna Osborne, Chilhowie; one step-daughter, Katherine Wiles, Aberdeen, Md.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

King A. Jamison
King A. Jamison, M.D., 82, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Meadowview and a graduate of Emory & Henry College, with a bachelor's degree. He attended Emory University and V.P.I. before receiving his M.D. from the University of Virginia.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a battalion surgeon on Mindanao with a unit that was awarded a Presidential Unit citation.
He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a diplomat of the American Board of General Surgery, and a member of the medical staff of Bristol Memorial Hospital.
He served five years as head of the hospital Tumor Clinic and 12 years as Medical Examiner of Sullivan County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Patterson Jamison.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Jamison, Tucson, Ariz.; four sons, Michael R. Jamison, Annandale, Va., Gary W. Jamison, Fountain Valley, Calif., Gergory M. Jamison, Dehlonega, Ga., and W. Richard "Rick" Jamison, Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Clara E. Kiser
Clara Everidge Kiser, of Bristol Virginia, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Columbus, Ga., and had lived in Bristol most of her life.
She was a former model for H.P. King Company and Maxine's Dress Shop in Abingdon.
She was the past owner of Everidge Jewelry. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Grady R. Kiser; one sister, Ruby Ketron, Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Johnny M. Leonard
Johnny Martin Leonard, 34, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church Softball Team.
He was a 1983 graduate of Tennessee High School where he was a member of the baseball team.
He worked at Stanley
Jones Corporation where he was a superintendent of ETSU New Central Library.
He was a member of the executive board of Western Little League for the past six years and managed minor league Bonfire, Red Sox and little league Elks Lodge, and various all-star teams.
He coached football through Bristol Tennessee Leisure Services at Haynesfield Elementary School.
Survivors include his wife, Donna McCracken Leonard; one daughter, Megan Leonard, of the home; one step-son, Cory Phillips, of the home; his parents, Larry and Elizabeth Leonard, Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Robin Leonard Overstreet, Bristol Tennessee; one brother, David Leonard, Bluff City; his maternal grandmother, Georgia Buckles, Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT -- Russell Barry Peters, 35, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, in Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Christy Pruitt Peters; two sons, Brinkley Kent Peters and Logan Kristopher Peters, both of Kingsport; his mother, Virginia L. Peters, Bristol Virginia; and two brothers, David Peters, Sanford, Fla., and Charles Peters, Bluff City.

SALTVILLE -- Mrs. Mazie Hughes Prater, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was the widow of Clarence Prater and a member of The First Church of God, Allisons Gap.
Survivors include one son, Gene Prater, Saltville; one daughter, Mrs. Billy (Sue) Cuddy, Saltville; two grandchildren, Tommy Prater, Saltville, and Lynn Robbins, Bowling Green, Va.; one great-grandson; one daughter-in-law; one son-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Roy D. Ray, 60, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of the Belfast Community in Russell County and had lived in High Point for the past 30 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Sonya Ray and Michell Ray, both of Saltville; two sisters, Dorothy Gobble, Lebanon, and Louise Harris, Chilhowie; three brothers, Johnny Ray, High Point, Earl Ray, Rosedale, Va., and Ralph Ray, Richlands; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Eula Lee Mumpower Sorah, 72, of 10323 Goldspier Drive, Bristol Virginia died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, in Bristol Nursing Home.
She was a native of Washington County, a retired employee of Tri State Corporation and was the widow of John C. Sorah Sr.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheila Cuddy and Pamela Worley, both of Bristol Virginia, and Cindy Sorah, Bristol Tennessee; one son, John C. Sorah Jr., Calabash, N.C.; one sister, Janice Greene, Bluff City; one brother, Estin Mumpower, Aberdeen, Md.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
