CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Blanch M. Myers, 102, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998, at her home.
She was a retired school teacher and a was a member of the Methodist Church of Mahan.
She was a graduate of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
Survivors include one daughter, Drema E. Myers, Charleston; one son, Wayne Preston Myers Jr., Abingdon, Va.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

McCLURE, Va. -- Joyce Nell O'Dell, 75, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Dickenson County Medical Center, Clintwood.
She was a native of Dickenson County, was of the Methodist faith and the widow of Curtis V. O'Dell.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Tina Rose, McClure; two brothers, Dewey Rose and J.D. Rose, both of Abingdon; three grandchildren, Denise Rose Stanley, Gary Rose Jr., and Patrick Curtis Rose; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Fronia E. Ramsey
ST. PAUL -- Fronia E. Ramsey, 81, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at her home.
She was a resident of Russell County and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include six daughters, Mary Ruth Hughes, St. Paul, Betty Duncan, Margaret Bradley, Stella Long and Linda Trent, all of Castlewood, and Marie Berger, Lynchburg, Va.; two sons, Herman Eugene Ramsey and Frank J.D. Ramsey, both of Lebanon; two sisters, Stella Hall, St. Paul and Verna Quillen, Sandusky, Ohio; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Williams
LEBANON -- Mary Ellen Williams, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two brothers, Wilburn Williams, Lebanon, and Wiley S. Williams, Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Byrley
ALVARADO, Va. -- Mrs. Mary Ellen Byrley, 71, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Baltimore and had lived in Maryland before moving to the Alvarado area ten years ago.
She was the widow of Howard Michael Byrley.
Survivors include one daughter, Joanne Collins, Alvarado; one brother, Francis Bailey, Delaware; and two grandsons, Josh Wessel and Mike Wessel, both of Alvarado.
There will be no services for Mrs. Bryley.

Phinas Church
VANSANT -- Phinas Church, 90, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was a native of Dickenson County and was retired from Island Creek Coal Company. He was also a member of UMWA Local 7488.
He was of the Old Regular Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Church; three sons, Jethro Church, Haysi, Roger Church, Vansant, and Gurvis Church, Boomfield Hills, Mich.; three daughters, Gail Ratliff, Vansant, Kathleen Lane, Grundy; and Delphine Powers, Rochester Hills, Mich.; two brothers, Leonard Church, Route 2, Haysi, and George Junior Church, Galion, Ohio; three sisters, Fonnie Kiser, Galion, Bonnie Dillon, S. Amhurst, Ohio and Ruby Kiser, Lynchburg; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

SALTVILLE -- Charles Lee Ernest, 70, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, at his home.
He was a member of the Saltville Fire Department, the Saltville Rescue Squad and the Saltville-Rich Valley Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Kansas L. Ernest; one daughter, Carol Martin, Chilhowie; four sons, David Ernest and Michael Ernest, both of Marion, Larry Ernest, Spokane, Wash., and Charles Ernest Jr., of Greensboro, N.C.; two step-daughters, Peggy DeBord and Dollie Carter, both of Saltville; two step-sons, John W. Davidson, Martinsville, Va., and Danny Davidson, Manassas; seven grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

William A. Gilliam
BIG STONE GAP -- William Alvarow Gilliam, 73, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of the area.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church, Big Stone Gap.
He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII, and was a retired employee of Bell Atlantic Telephone Company.
Survivors include his wife, Betty S. Gilliam; two sons, William E. "Bill" Gilliam and Robert L. "Bob" Gilliam, both of Big Stone Gap; one daughter, Donna Gilliam Burton, Glade Spring; and six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Tammy M. Goins
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- Tammy Lynn McCoy Goins, 34, of 121 Trails End Lane, formerly of Council, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in a Winston-Salem, N.C., hospital.
She was a native of Tazewell County and had spent her early life in Council.
She was a 1981 graduate of Council High School.
She had lived in Mt. Airy for the past three years and was a member of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church, Mt. Airy.
She had also previously served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include her husband, Gregory Steven Goins, Claudeville, Va.; one son, Jason Robert McCoy, Mt. Airy; her parents, Lowey and Velma Childress, Council; two sisters, Rebecca Hess, Council, and Sherry Lee Justus, Tazewell.

Phyllis D. Holmes
TAMPA, Fla. -- Phyllis Diane Holmes, 47, died Friday, July 30, 1998.
She had lived in Tampa for several years and was employed as a nurse at Hillhaven Nursing Home, Tampa.
Survivors include one son, Orlando Pondo, Seattle; three brothers, Bill Cunningham,
Johnson City, Julian Cunningham, Tampa, and Stanley Cunningham, Bristol Virginia; one sister, Sylvia Rollins,
Johnson City; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
