BIG ROCK, Va. -- Gregory Dean Stiltner, 41, of Poplar Creek section, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of Bethlehem Old Regular Baptist Church.
He attended Grundy High School, was a U.S. Navy veteran and an employee of Silcox Trucking Company, Grundy.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lois Owens Stiltner; one stepdaughter, Marsha Keen, Vansant; two stepsons, Wayne Elswick, Maxie, and Chris Ratlif, North Wilksboro, N.C.; his parents, Ralph and Stella Thacker Stiltner, Grundy; one sister, Joyce Rice, Grundy; two brothers, Jerry Stiltner, Dickson, Tenn., and Pete Stiltner, Grundy; four step-grandchildren; 4 nieces; five nephews; four grand-nephews; and two grand-nieces.

Mary A. Stump
SEYMOUR, Tenn. -- Mary Alice Stump, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at her home.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph D. Stump; one daughter, Donna Crenshaw; two sons, Mike and Allen Stump; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Kathleen Taylor, Lebanon.

James E. Whitmore
COVINGTON, Va. -- James Eugene "Gene" Whitmore, 77, of 541 East Kline Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Shenandoah Manor Nursing Home.
He was a native of Eagle Rock, Va., was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Curtis A.
Smith VFW Post 1033.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Vest Whitmore.
He retired from Westvaco with over 40 years of service in the millwright//maintenance department, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the A.T. Company, 397th Infantry, 100 Infantry Division.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Harry (Janet)
Brown and Mrs. Richard (Brenda) Shaw, both of Covington, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Kelley, Abingdon, and Mrs. Steven (Joy) Booze, Clifton Forge; one brother, Junior L. "June" Whitmore, Covington; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

ABINGDON -- Laura Ann Midkiff Evans Whitt, 89, formerly of Hurley, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Mingo County, W.Va., a resident of Buchanan County several years prior to moving to Abingdon, was a member of Big Rock Pentecostal Church of God and was a homemaker.
She was the widow of her first husband, L.E. Evans and the widow of her second husband, Willard Whitt.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Helen Misenheimer, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mrs. Kathryn Looney, Grundy; three sisters, Jane Chaney, Abingdon, Doris Black, Phoenix, Ariz., and Bessie Lester, Hurley; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Katherine D. Williams
ATKINS, Va. -- Katherine DeBord Williams, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
She was a devoted member of the Methodist faith and a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of Houston Methodist Church and was past president of the United Methodist Women in Kimball, W.Va.
She was the widow of Everette A. Williams.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Pais, Kimball, and Margaret W. Graves, Marion; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

RICH VALLEY, Va. -- John Carson Buchanan, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at his home.
Survivors include two brothers, Jim Spiller Buchanan, Marion, and Charles McDonald Buchanan, Rich Valley; one sister, Elizabeth Buchanan Moxley, Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.

MEADOWVIEW -- Ruey Elswick, 72, formerly of Harman, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was a native of Pike County, Ky., and had lived in Buchanan County for several years before moving to Abingdon.
He was a member of Macedonia Church of Christ, Abingdon, and was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Velsie Belcher Elswick; three sisters, Opal Belcher, Fremont, Ohio, and Clarsie Moore and Clara Yates, both of Abingdon; two brothers, Oliver Elswick, Fremont, Ohio, and Crawford Elswick, North Bergen, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

MOUTH CARD, Ky. -- Woodrow Fields, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Short Pole, W.Va., had lived in Pike County several years, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his first wife, Stella Mitchell, Phelps, Ky.; his second wife, Caroline Farmer Fields, Pikeville, Ky.; one daughter, Catherine Sue Rowe, Elkhorn City, Ky.; three sons, Leslie Thomas Fields, Mouth Card, Randy Carson Fields and Jerry Clarence Fields, both of Phelps; one sister, Vergie Lockhart, Summerville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

MARION -- David McKinley Goble, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 21. 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport.
He was employed with American Furniture for over 25 years.

Judy F. Horton, 48, of Bristol, Virginia, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in
Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a native of Hardin County, Tenn., and had made her home in Bristol for the past five years.
