COEBURN -- James Hopkins Bond Sr., 78, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
He was a retired mechanic, a veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Laney Bond; one daughter, Patty Sue Cotten, Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, James H. Bond Jr., Church Hill, and William Ray Bond, Coeburn; two brothers, E.C. "Rusty" Bond, Coeburn, and Ralph "Blacky" Bond, Hampton, Tenn; two sisters, Ruth Carbaugh, Coeburn, and Audry Pritchett, Camden, N.J.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary B. Honaker
RICHLANDS -- Mrs. Mary Belle Honaker, 87, of 1318 Farmer Street, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Swords Creek, had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life and was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.
She was the widow of Ralph Eugene Honaker.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Lee Honaker Sr., and Jessie Wayne Honaker, both of Richlands; two grandchildren, Adam Wayne Honaker and Johnny Lee Honaker Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dewey F. Jessee
Dewey Felix "PaPaw" Jessee, 88, of Bristol, Tennessee, formerly of Castlewood, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his home.
He had made his home in Bristol for several years, attended Holston Valley Church of God, Bristol, Tenn., and was a member of Castlerun Missionary Baptist Church, Castlewood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Elizabeth Jessee.
Survivors include two sons, Felix Jessee Jr., Massillon, Ohio, and Ricky Jessee, Castlewood; two daughters, Juanita Boardwine, Bristol, Tennessee, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Buster (Bernice) Lambert, Massillon; one sister, Vona Repass, Lynn Garden, Tenn.; two brothers, Lloyd Jessee, Tazewell, and Warren Jessee, Castlewood; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Vergie L. Leonard
NEWTON, N.C. -- Vergie Louise Leonard, 69, of Stove Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Washington, Va., and a self-employed seamstress.
Survivors include one daughter, Margie Cooper, China Grove; one son, Alfred Lady Jr., Newton; her mother, Cora L. Lunsford, Bluff City; five sisters, Shirley Clark, Bluff City, Betty Wright, Kingsport, Pearl Hartsock and Mary Vermilion, both of Hiltons, Va., and Hazel Carr, Westmoreland, Tenn.; four brothers, Albert Lunsford and Larry Lunsford, both of Bluff City, Freddy Lunsford, Blountville, and Robert Lunsford, Georgia; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Conover, N.C.

CEDAR BLUFF -- Mrs. Nora Bailey Matney, 79, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in a Richlands, Va., hospital.
She was a native of Buchanan County and a member of Cliffield Church of Christ.
She was the widow of Jessie Jeff Matney.
Survivors include seven sons, Roger Matney, Sterling, Va., James Matney, Arcola, Va., Jack Matney, Tazewell, Joe Matney, Bobby Matney, Keith Matney and Tim Matney, all of Cedar Bluff; four daughters, Mrs. Brenda Justus, Mrs. Jeanette Jackson and Mrs. Geneva Billiter, all of Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Mildred Addison, Arcola; four half-sisters, Marie, Virgie, Rachel and Ruby; 27 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Willis B. "Doc" McCray, 72, of 818 Old Edisto Drive, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in The Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Abingdon, a retired construction supervisor with Daniels Construction Co., was formerly associated with
Smith Corona and, after his retirement, he worked with his daughter at Devin's Florist.
He was a member of Columbia Road Church of God and was formerly a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Henneger McCray; two daughters, Linda M. Bessinger, Bamberg, S.C., and Mrs. D. Sean (Brenda) Harley, Orangeburg; one brother, Robert R. McCray, Kingsport; four sisters, Mrs. Quincy (Inez) Pless, Powder Springs, Ga., Mrs. Roger (Elsie) Dixon, Kennesaw, Ga., Mrs. Ernest (Imogene) Gregory, Abingdon, and Mrs. Arnette M. Moore, Ainger, N.C.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be held Monday in South Carolina.

She was a native of
Johnson County, the widow of Joe W. Pierce, a homemaker and a member of Doe Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Jo Ella Long, Amarillo, Texas, Mrs. Bill (Juanita) Tolliver, Elizabethton, and Mrs. Bill (Hilda) Absher, Kingsport; two granddaughters, Patricia Shoun Taylor and Debi Shoun Hopkins; five grandsons, Billy, Tim and Joe Tolliver, and Steve and Kevin Absher; six great-granddaughters; four great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

WHITEWOOD -- Leon Kirby Presley, 54, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, from injuries received in a mining accident.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a mechanic for Dominion Coal Company, a subsidiary of Jewell Smokeless Coal Company, and a member of Buchanan County Bass Masters Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lottie Horn Presley; one son, Damon Presley, Oakwood; two daughters, Mrs. Frankie (Ginger) Miles and Miss Sabrina Presley, both of Orlando, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Clark (Judy) Horn, Whitewood, and Mrs. Allen (Belinda) Honaker, Pilgrim Knob; his mother, Trulby Fuller Presley, Oakwood; and four step-grandchildren.

Jeanette Wilma Branch, 81, of 217 Alder Street, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Bluff City and had lived most of her life in the Bristol area.
She was a retired employee of Big Jack Manufacturing Company, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the widow of Perry Branch.
Survivors include one sister, Ellojeane Hall, Bristol; and one niece, Sylvia Cooper, Hollywood, Fla.
The body will be cremated.
