BLUFF CITY -- Ray Carr, 57, of 700 Old Elizabethton Highway, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in
Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of
Carter County and had lived in Sullivan County for 37 years.
He was a carpenter, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Bunker Hill Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Carr; three daughters, Karen Johnson, Abingdon, Sherry Byrd, Bluff City, and Kim Hobbs, Blountville; nine sisters, Gladys Ward, Watauga, Tenn., Edith Richards, Bluff City, Lucille Brooks, Bristol, Tennessee, Zula Carter, Beulah Buckles, Wanda Minton, Ollie Bradley, Ann Dula and Evelyn McDuffie, all of Elizabethton; one brother, J.C. Carr, Bluff City; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerrette K. Carter
Jerrette Kay Sowers Carter, 56, of Bristol, Virginia, formerly of Harman, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in Bristol Regional Hospital, Bristol, Tennessee.
She was a native of Indiana, had lived in Buchanan County several years and was a graduate of Southwest Virginia College of Nursing.
She was a former employee of Buchanan General Hospital, a homemaker and a member of Harman Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Frederick G.
Carter Jr.; one daughter, Melinda Carter, Blacksburg; one sister, Crasandra Nicely, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one brother, Rocky Sowers, Pensacola, Fla.

Charles R. Cornett
MARION -- Charles Roscoe Cornett, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1997, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Troutdale and had lived in Roanoke for several years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed with Blue Ridge Transfer Company as a truck driver.
Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Cornett, War, W.Va.; one niece, Odette Hoffman, Chilhowie; and one nephew, Michael Adams, Richmond.

James B. Davis
WEST JEFFERSON, N.C. -- James Bradley Davis, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in Ashe Memorial Hospital, Jefferson, N.C.
He was a native of Grayson County, Va., an Army veteran of World War II and a 30-year member of American Legion Post 275.
Survivors include his wife, Mozelle McClure Davis; two daughters, Evelyn K. Jones, Reidsville, N.C., and Joan E. Baldwin, Whitetop, Va.; one stepdaughter, Geneva P. Johnson, Lansing, N.C.; one stepson, Carl E. Powers, Lansing, N.C.; one brother, Tam F. Davis, Whitetop; one sister, Lucille Greer, Marion; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services and burial will be held Saturday in Jefferson, N.C.

Virgie H. Fletcher
VANSANT -- Mrs. Virgie Hess Fletcher, 83, of the Fletcher Ridge section, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital.
She was a native of Buchanan County, a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of Fletcher Ridge Primitive Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Everett Fletcher.
Survivors include seven daughters, Lona Fay Ball, Christine Presley and Diane Compton, all of Davenport, Shelvia Jean Stacy, Abingdon, Barbara Fletcher Cook and Gaynell Cox, both of Vansant, and Mildred Sue Evans, Aberdeen, Md.; five sons, Monroe Fletcher and Larry Fletcher, both of Vansant, Delmer Fletcher, James Fletcher and Bobby Fletcher, all of Abingdon; four sisters, Mabel Cook and Deladis VanDyke, both of Vansant, Tora Arms and Thelma Hess, both of Rowe; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

James Earl Gentry, 76, of 1622 Carolina Avenue, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House.
He was a native of Sullivan County, a member of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church and a retired truck driver.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Saul Gentry; one daughter, Mrs. Laverle Sutphin, Appalachia; one son, James E. Gentry Jr., Mesquite, Texas; four sisters, Isabelle Carrier, Mrs. Daisy Vance and Mrs. Sylvia Booher, all of Bristol, Tennessee, and Mrs. Sue Price, Ameagie, W.Va.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Andrew G. Hall
KINGSPORT -- Andrew Goldman Hall, 95, of 1208 Caribbean Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, a this home.
He was a native of Scott County, had lived in Ft. Blackmore and, most recently, made his home with his loving daughter and son-in-law, Beulah and Eugene Dingus.
He was a farmer, was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his wife, Ava Estell Kerns Hall.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Pete (Ruby) Cole, Mrs. Eugene (Beulah) Dingus and Mrs. John (Bernice) Dingus, all of Kingsport, Mrs. Robert (Edna) Green, Gate City; four sons, Clyde Hall and Roy Hall, both of Ft. Blackmore, Curtis Hall, Church Hill, and Bobby Hall, Gate City; 30 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and several niece and nephews.

Jeanetta Hightower
WILCOE, W.Va. -- Jeanetta Hughes Hightower, 89, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in a local hospital.
She was a native of Bristol and attended Woodlawn and Slater Schools.
She was a former member of College Avenue Christian Church prior to moving to West Virginia, where she was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Louise Boyd, Bristol, Tennessee; one nephew, Allen K. Hughes, Bristol, Virginia; and three nieces, Betty Joe Hughes, Barbara H. Lewis and Gloria J. Hughes, all of Bristol, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held in West Virginia.

Dewey F. Jessee
Dewey Felix "PaPaw" Jessee, 88, of Bristol, Tennessee, formerly of Castlewood, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at his home.
He had made his home in Bristol for several years, attended Holston Valley Church of God, Bristol, Tenn., and was a member of Castlerun Missionary Baptist Church, Castlewood.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Elizabeth Jessee.
Survivors include two sons, Felix Jessee Jr., Massillon, Ohio, and Ricky Jessee, Castlewood; two daughters, Juanita Boardwine, Bristol, Tennessee, with whom he made his home, and Mrs. Buster (Bernice) Lambert, Massillon; one sister, Bona Repass, Lynn Garden, Tenn.; two brothers, Lloyd Jessee, Tazewell, and Warren Jessee, Castlewood; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
