KINGSPORT -- Blanche Bailey Looney, 78, formerly of Maxie, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998.
She was a native of Jane, Va., and had lived in Maxie most of her life before moving to Kingsport in 1993.
She was a homemaker, a member of Orebank Missionary Baptist Church and the widow of Carl Looney.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. David (Elsa) Cook, Maxie, and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Smith, Kingsport; one son, Dennis Looney, Maxie; two sisters, Mabel Looney, Breaks, Hazel Anderson, Blue River, Wis.; four granddaughters; two grandsons; four great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Lena M. Mullins
Miss Lena M. Mullins, 77, of Bristol, Virginia, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in National Health Care, Bristol, Va.
She was a native of Wise, a former employee of the United States Government in Newport News, Va., during World War II, returning to Bristol in 1956, and retired from Sears Robuck in 1985.
She was a member of Rosemont Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her stepmother, Lois C. Mullins, Bristol, Virginia; one stepsister, Vivian Campbell Tester, Bristol, Tennessee; one stepbrother, Ralph Lee Campbell, Bristol, Tennessee; four nieces; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.

MARION -- Ernest "Pete" Ramsey, 86, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., and retired from Southwestern State Hospital, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Kate Rosenbalm Ramsey; one daughter, Nancy Ann Bales, Woodstock, Ga.; two sons, Ernest "Eddie" Ramsey, Hodges, S.C., and Robert "Bob" Ramsey, Marion; two sisters, Mary Virginia Ramsey,
Johnson City, and Margie Thomas, Bristol, Tennessee; one grandson; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.

William J. Shepherd
COEBURN -- William James Shepherd, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in Indian Path Hospital, Kingsport.
He was a native of Scott County, a resident of the Carfax community for over 60 years, a retired miner and a member of UMWA Local 7950.
He attended Banner Revival Center and was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Shepherd.
Survivors include his wife, Della Shepherd; three daughters, Shelby Delp, Norton, Judy Ramey, Denver, Colo., and Brenda Robinette, Carfax, Va.; two sons, Raymond Shepherd, Carfax, and Larry Shepherd, Coeburn; one stepdaughter, Charlotte McConnell, Coeburn; four stepsons, Tim Barnett Sr., Coeburn, Gerry Barnett, Lexington, Ohio, Bill Barnett, Monroeville, Ohio, and Rick Barnett, Dover, Del.; Five sisters, Helen Scarberry, Castlewood, Alice McCarty, Gate City, Loraine McKnight, Jonesville, Dolly Robinette, Hopewell, Va., and Peggy Hammond, Surgoinsville, Tenn.; three brothers, Billy Shepherd and C.J. Mildred S. Tickle
Mildred
Smith Tickle, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in NHC, Bristol.
She was a native of St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in Bristol for the past 50 years.
She was a graduate of Missouri State University, the widow of Fred C. Tickle and taught at Fairmount School, Bristol, Tennessee, for 35 years prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Community Church at Bristol and attended First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of Ruth Circle, "Young at Heart" and she delivered Meals on Wheels.
She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, was involved for many years selling advertising for the Shrine Football Game program, was a member of Border City Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women's Club, Pilot Club and Sullivan County Democratic Women's Club.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Ersie D. Whisenhunt
COEBURN -- Ersie Dotson Whisenhunt, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a member of Lick Fork Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Ralph Whisenhunt.
Survivors include six sons, Delmer Whisenhunt, Coeburn, Fred Whisenhunt, Circus Heights, Calif., Harold Whisenhunt, Summer Duck, Va., Grady Whisenhunt, Manassas, Va., Ralph Whisenhunt Jr., Lebanon, and David Whisenhunt, Alexandria, Va.; four daughters, Mary Blevins, Coeburn, Jacqueline King, Haymarket, Va., and Betty Damron, Nora; one sister, Arizona Hamilton, Manassas; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

ABINGDON -- Fred L. Atkins, 79, of 383 Deadmore Street, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Abingdon, and a retired employee of Campbell Funeral Home with over 30 years of service.
He was a World War II veteran and a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 12.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Stallard Atkins; one daughter, Judith Atkins Jarrell, Newport News, Va.; one son, Lewis "L.B." Atkins, Abingdon; one granddaughter, Marisa Atkins, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.

MARION -- Katie June Blevins, 67, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at her home.
She attended Marion First Church of God.
Survivors include two daughters, Nadine Wogoman, Piqua, Ohio and June Newman, Rural Retreat, Va.; one son, Alex Whillock, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Pauline Coe, Chilhowie, and Lola Frye, Dublin, Va.; one brother, Alan Blevins; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

CEDAR BLUFF, Va. -- Mrs. Gladys Marie Boyd, 56, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Tazewell County and was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff area.
She was a member of Road Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, Raven.
Survivors include her husband, Warren R. Boyd; one daughter, Mrs. Angela Marie Vass, Cedar Bluff; two sons, Darrell C. Boyd, Cedar Bluff, and Ronnie L. COEBURN -- Julia Ann Bryant, 97, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in Norton Community Hospital.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 24 and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of John Frederick Bryant.
Survivors include one grandson, Joseph M. Rose, Coeburn; one granddaughter, Catherine Sullivan, Empire, Ala.; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
