MORRIS
Gilbert C. Morris Jr., 50, of Chester, died on Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his residence. A native of Colonial Heights, he was the son of the late Gilbert C. Sr. and Mildred Maxine Morris. Mr. Morris was baptized at Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Morris; daughter, Stephanie Christen Morris; and son, Scott Christopher Morris, both of Chester; sister, Debra M. Goddard of Matoaca; several nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001 in the chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
MOUNTCASTLE
James Christian Mountcastle, 81, departed from this life on Saturday, March 24, 2001. He was born in Richmond, Va., and former resident of Providence Forge and a Seaford resident for 30 years. He attended Randolph Macon College and was a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. His Navy career included captain of PT boats, and was in the initial landing at Guadalcanal and the Normandy Invasion. He received the Distinguished Service Cross for his leadership. He served as president of Mountcastle Lumber Company in Newport News for 40 years until his retirement in 1986. He is survived by his loving wife for over 50 years, Virginia Mountcastle; three children, Karen (Kay), Linda (Kristin), and Janet; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va. Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, is in charge of the arrangements.
MOZINGO
Myrtle E. Mozingo, 87, of Richmond, died March 24, 2001. She is survived by a cousin, Rubye Wilson of Orlando, Fla.; several nieces, and "adopted family", Brenda and Joseph Mitchell and their daughter, Kimberly Reid. Miss Mozingo retired from Philip Morris in 1976 with 32 years of service. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in Maury Cemetery. ORANGE
Alfred Murray Orange, 83, of Richmond, died Friday, March 23, 2001. A native of Bedford County, Va., he was a longtime resident of Richmond, where he retired from the Philip Morris Tobacco Co. Mr. Orange was an Army veteran of WWII, and a Mason and Shriner in the ACCA Temple. Mr. Orange was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lizzie Orange of Bedford County. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth P. Orange; a brother, Lotis Orange; sisters-in-law, Margaret B. Whitlock and Dorothy B. Townsend; nephews, Carl Orange and Robert E. Beattie Jr.; and a niece, Jean W. Baines. William L. "Bill" Pond, 41, a resident of Wakefield, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk, after a brief illness. Bill was employed at Wakefield Farm Service and was a member of Wakefield United Methodist Church. He was a 1977 graduate of Tidewater Academy and had attended Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin. He is survived by his parents, Jack and Barbara Jean Seeley Pond of Sedley; a sister, Betty P. Beale and her husband, Dickie Beale of Sedley; his wife, Karen M. Pond of Bracey, Va.; two sons, Austin Martin Pond and Tristan Evans Pond; a nephew, Willie Beale; a niece, Ella Beale; and a special friend, Karen Kidd of Richmond; several aunts and uncles, and a host of good friends. A graveside funeral service will be held in Wakefield Cemetery on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 2 p.m. by Dr. James Becker. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the residence of Jack and Barbara Pond, Urquhart Quarter Rd., Sedley. H. Leonard Reynolds, 83, of Richmond, died March 24, 2001. He was the widower of Etha E. Reynolds. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Diane R. and David Conner; grandsons, Brad, Chad, and Brandon Conner; nieces, Ellen P. Whitlock and Mollie P. Whitenack. Mr. Reynolds was a member of Branch's Baptist Church, O.E.S. #139, Chesterfield Masonic Lodge #161, and was an active member of ACCA Temple, Legion of Honor. The family will receive friends at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd., (Rt. 10), from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, with masonic services being held 7 p.m. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. SIZEMORE
Whitt Sizemore, 94, widower of Novis Garner Sizemore, died Sunday, March 25, 2001 at Meadow View Terrace Nursing Home in Clarksville. A native of Mecklenburg County, Whitt was educated in the county schools. He was a long time member of Buffalo Baptist Church and active in the Men's Adult Sunday School Class until his health prevented. Whitt's life was spent farming until retiring in 1972. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. in the Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Oakhurst Cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Hilda S. Ligon of Clarksville; sons, Garner Sizemore of Asheboro, N.C. and Joe Sizemore of Elon College, N.C.; eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Robert Frederick Spencer, PhD, M.D., 51, of Midlothian, died of an extended illness Saturday, March 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife; two daughters; his mother of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; and his sister of Nashua, N.H.. A memorial service in his memory will be held at Salisbury Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 27, at 2:00 p.m. He was Professor of Anatomy, and Professor and Director of Research, Department of Otolaryngology, Medical College of Virginia. He held degrees from Northeastern University, University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry University of Pennsylvannia, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Sigma honorary societies. He was a Merit Award recipient from the National Institutes of Health and was internationally acknowledged for his numerous publications of original research in Neurobiology, Ophthalmology, Audiology, and Hearing.
STEWART
Catherine Elizabeth Myers Stewart of Tappahannock, died on March 25, 2001. She was born in Altoona, Pa., on January 11, 1908 to John Andrew and Harriet Sawyer Myers. Three brothers, George Myers of Norfolk, John of Richmond, and Richard of Coinjack, N.C., preceded her in death. She grew up in Norfolk, and as a young adult moved to Richmond. She has spent the last 20 years in Tappahannock. Her survivors include her daughter, Catherine S. McCarthy and her husband, Eugene B. McCarthy; three grandchildren, Catherine M. Sgroi and husband, Joseph, Eugene B. McCarthy III and his wife, Lucie, all of Tappahannock, and Mary Cameron McCarthy of San Diego, Calif. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Cameron Sgroi, Joseph Eugene Sgroi, Eugene B. McCarthy IV and Elizabeth Lantane McCarthy, all of Tappahannock. While living in Richmond, she was a longtime member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church and the Country Club of Virginia. She retired from the Bottled Gas Corp. of Va. in 1968. Graveside funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Essex Cemetery, Tappahannock. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home. Jamie Hughes Wash, a resident of Sunrise of Fairfax, formerly of Richmond, died March 19, 2001. She was the widow of Cyrenious C. Wash. She is survived by four nieces and two nephews. Mr. Werner attended Virginia military Institute and was employed by W.T. Curd Jr. Contractor as General Superintendent.
