Smith
Funeral services were held Monday, November 10, 2003 for Ruth E. Smith, 78, at Pace Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Fueslier officiating. Interment followed in Egypt Cemetery near Colmesneil.
Mrs. Smith was born on November 25, 1915 in Shelbyville to parents Elisha and Elizabeth Dennis Palmer. She was a high school and beauty school graduate. She worked at the 5 and 10 store in Pasadena with best friend of 55 years, Ruth Cupps of Livingston. Mrs. Smith was a beautician for 30 years in Pasadena and Livingston. She was a former member of Schwab City Baptist Church near Livingston and First Baptist Church of alto. She was a present member of Tom Herbert Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Mrs. Smith died on Saturday, November 8, 2003, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosalie Ballard; two brothers, Wesley and Charles Palmer; two sisters, Lucille Kerr and Mozel Bourque; two husbands, Preston McBryde in 1976, a deacon at Schwab City Baptist Church, and Carl Smith in 1997 in Alto. She was a dedicated Christian and a believer in salvation for all.
Survivors include her daughters, Sue Terwilliger of Lake Charles, Louisiana; JoAnne Clark of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Patsy Hall of Livingston and Janet Anderson of Pasadena; step-daughter, Dianne Smith of Danbury; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Pallbearers were David Bourque, Buddy Hall, Clyde Anderson, Robert Bourque, Charles Anderson and Roy Terwilliger.

Whitesides
Funeral services for Robert Lafayette Whitesides, 85, were held Wednesday, November 12, 2003, from Blanchard Baptist Church, with the Revs. Royce Pennington and Fred Alford officiating. Burial followed in Union Grove Cemetery in Troup.
He was born March 2, 1918 in Troup, the son of Charlie D. and Maude Bell Whitesides. He married Mozelle Keel Whitesides on August 24, 1940 in Troup. Mr. Whitesides served as a deacon for 47 years at Highlands Second Baptist Church and Blanchard Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Blanchard Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of San Augustine AF&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of the Sharon Temple Shrine in Tyler and a member of the York Rite. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker.
Mr. Whitesides died Monday, November 10, in Livingston. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy Whitesides and Troy Whitesides; and sisters, Roberta Jackson, Ruby Stone, Gracie Allen and Juanita Vestal.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mozell Whitesides of Livingston; son and daughter-in-law, Lemoyne and Sue Whitesides of Frankston; daughters and sons-in-law, Laveda and Neal Voytek, Carolyn Crawford Donna and Gary Campbell, all of Livingston; grandsons and wives, Michael and Julie Voytek of Baytown, Robert and Stephanie Whitesides of Gunnison, Colorado, Lynn and Georgia Crawford of Livingston, Fred and Lynn Whitesides of Conroe and Timothy Robert and April Campbell of Kingwood; granddaughters, Stacey and husband, Matt Pirtle of Frisco, Robin Crawford of Orlando, Florida, and Jana Lee Campbell of Baytown; great-grandchildren, Tanner Syzmanski, Wesley Whitesides, Amanda Whitesides, Emily Whitesides, Natalie Voytek, James Voytek, Caden Pirtle, Christian Pirtle, Randee Crawford and Savannah Crawford; sisters, Jesse Shuttleworth of Troup and Veda Bobbitt of Crockett; brother and sister-in-law, Thurman and Lanell Whitesides of Livingston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Michael Voytek, Matthew Pirtle, Robert Whitesides, Lynn Crawford, Fred Whitesides and Tim Campbell. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Blanchard Baptist Church and E.F. Beard.
Abbey
Funeral services for Shailey Kitera Abbey, 2 months old, were held Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Indian Village Assembly of God, with Bro. Rudy Martinez officiating. Burial followed in the Reservation Cemetery.
She was born September 11, 2003 in Livingston, the daughter of Gilman and Beverly Williams Abbey. Shailey died Monday, November 17, 2003, in Memorial Medical Center - Livingston.
Survivors include her father, Gilman Abbey; mother, Beverly Williams Abbey, both of Livingston; sister, Gladys Abbey of Livingston; grandparents, Harvey and Olivia Williams and Glenn and Arlene Abbey, all of Livingston; great-grandmothers, Lenora Williams, Clara Battise, Helen Battise and Edith Abbey, all of Livingston; great-grandfather, Edward Abbey of Livingston; and a host of uncles, aunts, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Kerwin Williams, Ray Battise, Lonnie Williams and Charles Frank Polite. Honorary pallbearers were Sheldon Thompson and Garrison Abbey.

Collins
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Pace Funeral Home, for Mrs. M.J. Collins, 86, with the Rev. Frank E. Hood officiating. Interment followed in Bluewater Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins was born on November 20, 1916 in Joaquin to parents Charlie and Ellie Woods Coyle. At the age of 7 she moved from Joaquin to Polk County in a covered wagon on dirt roads, as they were not yet paved. Here she met Joe Collins, whom she married on February 1, 1934.
Mrs. Collins died Monday, November 17, 2003 in Lufkin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Collins, on April 8, 2000. A sister, Lula Coyle Little, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two children, James Huey Collins of Livingston and Ella Ruth Collins McCormick of Zavalla; brother, Ray Coyle of Conroe; sister, Gertrude Jones of Livingston; three grandchildren, Loretta Brunk of Zavalla, James Jarman of Livingston and Richard McCormick of Zavalla; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Richard Lee McCormick, James Jarman, James Jarman Jr., Richard Brunk, Donnie Paul Brunk, Ben Jarman and Chad Gossett.

Funeral services for Ida Berckenhoff Graham, 77, were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, at Smith Funeral Home in Moulton.
She was born February 3, 1926 in Moulton, the daughter of Fred and Kristina Koudelka Berckenhoff. Mrs. Graham died on Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at her residence in Livingston. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Graham Sr.; and brother, Rudy Berckenhoff.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Ray Hemmi of Livingston and Aaron J. and Teresa Graham of Onalaska; grandson, Aaron J. Graham Jr. of Onalaska; two step-daughters, Teresa Wedgeworth of Elkhart and Faye Johnson of South Dakota; two step-sons, George N. Graham Jr. of Oklahoma and Norman Graham of Porter; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Otto and Marge Berckenhoff and Dennis and Pat Berckenhoff, all of Moulton; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sophie Barta of Moulton, Dorothy and Ben Ulbrich of Houston and Rose and Gene Selzer of Moulton.

Wagner
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003 for Gladys Viola Wagner, 79, at Revival Center Church of God, with the Rev. Gerald Reeves officiating.
She was born January 29, 1924 in Houston, the daughter of Henry and Xexie Adomie Hillard Dodd, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wagner died Sunday, November 16, 2003, in Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Hoke of Livingston; brother, Cecil Dodd of Houston; sisters, Gene Simpson of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Edna Smith of Sacramento, California, Evie Thompson and Allene Dodd, both of Dickinson; and one brother, Henry Dodd of Dickinson.

Battise
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2003 for Ludie Battise, 83, at the Indian Village Assembly of God Church in Polk County, with Bro. Rudy Martinez and Bro. Daniel Zarate officiating. Burial followed in the Indian Reservation Cemetery.
She was born on March 22, 1920 in Kinder, Louisiana, the daughter of Abner Williams and Ivey Obe Williams. She was a master quilt maker. As a senior, she produced several Native American TV programs for ACCESS Cable Network in the Chicago area.
Battise died on Thursday, November 20, 2003 in Lufkin. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Daniel Webster Battise of the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation; one son, Roland Poncho of Livingston; two daughters, Sylvia Ann King of Minnesota and Jacquelyn Battise of Houston; sister, Leona Williams; and brother, Eugene Williams of Elton; five grandchildren, Lana Renee King, Kevin William King and Gerald Scott King, all of Minnesota and Cynthia Marie Flores and Lori Rae Johnson, both of Livingston; and seven great-grandchildren, Anthony Hernandez, Christian Poncho, Chrysalyn Flores and Caleb Wilson, all of Livingston and Michael Daniel King, Todd Vache King and Tessa Ludie Take King, all of Minnesota.

Heilander
Funeral services for Perry Gordon Heilander, 78, of Livingston, were conducted Saturday, November 22, 2003, from Oak Grove Church of Christ in Livingston with Ed Smith and Carson Fairbanks officiating. Burial followed in Bluff Creek Cemetery.
He was born February 14, 1925 in Troy, the son of Jewell and Elizabeth Carter Heilander. Mr. Heilander served in the Marines during World War II.
Mr. Heilander died Tuesday, November 18, in Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Devena McNab Heilander; sister, Lela Heilander; and brother, Jewell Heilander.
Survivors include his sons, Jimmy Lee Heilander of Washington, Charles Heilander of Delaware and Dennis Heilander of Houston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dolly Hebert of Mobile, Alabama, and Dorothy Poliseno of Livingston; and brother-in-law, Wilson Richardson of Livingston.

Laws
A memorial service was held Friday, November 21, 2003, at Pace Funeral Home For Tom Laws, 74, with the Rev. John Binford officiating. military rites followed under the direction of VFW Post 8568 of Livingston. Through his and his family's wishes, Mr. Laws was a participant in the LifeGift donor program.
He was born on March 31, 1929 in Houston, the son of Creathie W. and Beryl Binford Laws. He served as a military policeman with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired public school math teacher, having taught in Houston for four years, Galveston for 27 years and most recently taught special education in Goodrich for one year. He was a member of the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association and a member of the graduating class of 1947. He was a lifetime member of both the Texas State Teachers Association and the National Education Association. He was also a member of the national Rifle Association, the Texas State Rifle Association and the Sheriff's Association of Texas. He married his wife, Mary, on June 25, 1987 in San Leon. He had been a Livingston resident since 1989, moving from Bacliff.
Mr. Laws died Tuesday, November 18, 2003, in Lufkin.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Livingston; mother-in-law, Dorothy McWhorter of Livingston; sons, Richard Laws and wife, Peggy, of Dickinson and Clayton Blank and wife, Kathy, of Livingston; daughter, Sonja Garcia and husband, Joe, of Fort Worth; sister, Joy Holt and husband, Bill, of Leakey; and seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Richard, Christopher, Carlos, Emilio, Kristin and Nickolas.
Thompson
A celebration of life service for Rev. William Lyndsey Thompson, 75, of Shepherd, was held Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Vince Sandlan and Betty Avery officiating. Burial followed in Farley Chapel Cemetery in Shepherd.
He was born March 27, 1928 in Merryville, Louisiana, the son of Willard and Tabaitha Buxton Thompson. He was a member of Harmony Church and was Head Bishop and founder of Bible Way Pentecostal Church of God. He served in the Army Air Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a life-time member of the American Legion No. 593. If you knew Bro. Thompson, you know that as his life ended here it began anew in the bosom of Jesus and he is now 'shouting happy' on the streets of gold, playing his guitar and singing in that Heavenly Choir.
Mr. Thompson passed on to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Thompson; his mother, Tabaitha Buxton Thompson; two brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Janice Thompson of Shepherd; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tim Ashby of Burkburnett; daughter, Ruby Thompson of Plano; daughter and son-in-law, Kaylan and Billy Crain of Monahans; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Elaine Thompson; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Esther Burdette of Burlington, West Virginia and sister-in-law, Linda Criswell of Burton, Michigan; and many dear friends and neighbors, who will miss his pleasant smile and outgoing personality.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 25, 2003 for Ike Logan Drake, 94, of Houston, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, Onalaska, with the Rev. Harold Isaacs officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska. military honors were conducted by the VFW Post 8568 Honor Guard.
He was born October 10, 1909 in Hercules, Missouri, the son of William and Phoebe Jane Lee Craft. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Craft died Friday, November 21, 2003 in Twelve Oaks Medical Center in Houston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Lambert Craft; his parents; brothers, Jim Craft, Johnny Craft, Robert Craft and Pete Craft; and sisters, Viola and Nellie.
Survivors include his sons, Arthur Craft, Russell Craft, Kenneth Craft and Chester Craft, all of Houston; daughter, Anna Chaney of Katy; grandchildren, Tavis Chaney, Heather Chaney and Jason Brown; great-grandchildren, Dieja Fraser, Anthony Chaney and Hillani Swinburn; and sister, Addie Lambert of Hawkins.

Graveside services for Nora Beth Drake, 76, of Livingston, were held Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Peebles Cemetery.
She was born December 17, 1926 in Fields, Louisiana, the daughter of William H. and Julia Rose Smith Herrin.
Mrs. Drake died Thursday, November 27, 2003 in Memorial Medical Center, Livingston. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Johnnie Drake; daughter, Dorothy Jacobs; great grandchild, Kristen Flynn; brothers, Harry Herrin, Rayfield Herrin and Arthur Herrin; and sisters, Mable Baggett and Wanath Lee Galloway.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna Camblin of Livingston; sons, Don Drake of Edenburgh and Jimmy Drake of Orange; brother, George H. Herrin of Houston; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
