Cruz R. Fuentes Sr., 71, of Corpus Christi died Sunday, July 21, 2002.
Mr. Fuentes was born in Beeville. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former employee of Wencar, Inc. and Kroger Grocery. He played semi-professional baseball with the Blue Jays. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Mr. Fuentes is survived by his wife, Paz Fuentes of Corpus Christi; his daughter, Linda Mae Gonzales of San Antonio; three sons, Cruz Fuentes Jr. of George West, Marc Fuentes of Corpus Christi and Michael Fuentes of Alice; two sisters, Jo Ethel Valdez of Austin and Rosa Alaniz of Sugar Land; a brother, Luis Fuentes Jr. of Enterprise, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Tuesday evening, July 23, at 7 o’clock at St. Pius X Church. Mass was celebrated Wednesday, July 24, at 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
Arrangements were handled through Guardian Cremation and Funeral Service, Corpus Christi.
Almager
Margarita Guerrero Almager, 85, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002.
Visitation was held Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary wasrecited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial followed in Cadiz Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe, Jimmy, Alex and Eduardo Martinez, Joe Omar Mendoza and Joe Leomar Mendoza. Honorary pallbearers will be Delmar Chavarria and Equiterio Alex Martinez.
Mrs. Almager was born on Feb. 22, 1917, in Oakville, to Juan and Valentina (Villarreal) Guerrero. She married Timoteo G. Almager on Sept. 2, 1935, in Beeville. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Timoteo G. Almager of Beeville; three sons, Wilfredo G. Martinez and wife Lupe of Alvin, Equiterio G. Martinez and wife Imelda of Sinton, and Margarito G. Martinez and wife Nancy of Beeville; three daughters, Maria Anita Martinez and husband Rey of Aurora, Ill., Herlinda Almager and husband Andy of Corpus Christi, and Rosalinda Almager and husband Juan of Huntsville; a grandson, Delmar Chavarria; 28 other grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Atkinson
Gladys W. Atkinson, 79, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Atkinson was born Nov. 21, 1922, to Luke and Minnie Wagner. She was a rancher and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Tilden, a member of the Eastern Star for many years, a member of the Cenizo Study Club and other county activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Stanley Wagner; her husband, Warren Atkinson; and her sons, Duane and Jerry Atkinson.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sue Atkinson of Loma Alta; one sister, Ruby Wright of Duncanville; one granddaughter, Ellen Atkinson of Gatesville; one grandson, D.W. (Jill) Atkinson of Georgetown; and two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Erin Atkinson of Georgetown.
Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 2, at noon at the ranch home in Loma Alta.
The funeral was held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Atkinson Ranch. Burial followed in the Atkinson Ranch Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Holmgreen Mortuary, Alice.
Clayton
Donald H. Clayton Sr., 88, died Monday, July 29, 2002, in a local nursing home following a short illness. He was a retired banker, partner-salesman for Williams Craft Travel Trailers. Mr. Clayton was also a Baptist.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred House of Three Rivers and Dorothy Jones of San Antonio; two granddaughters, DeLys Mitchell of Abilene and Lea Clayton of Brownwood; and two great-granddaughters.
Visitation was held Wednesday, July 31, at Roberson Funeral Home. The funeral was Thursday, Aug. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Three Rivers. Interment was in the Simmons City Cemetery.

Dudley
Josephine Lauderback Dudley, 84, of Seguin died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Palmer Mortuary Chapel in Seguin at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Dudley of Seguin; and numerous relatives.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Palmer Mortuary, Seguin.
Furlow
Joyce Annie Furlow, 78, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at a local nursing home following a short illness. Mrs. Furlow was born Oct. 1, 1923, to K.T. and Cleora (Williams) Cook in Nixon. She was an honor graduate of Three Rivers High School and attended Trinity University where she graduated with top honors. She was a school teacher for 20 years and taught in Del Rio, Alice, Freer and Premont.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a half-sister, Vera Hall; and half-brother, Robert Cook.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Furlow of Three Rivers; one son, John Furlow of Sugar Land; one daughter, AnnaLee (Doug) Harvey of Kyote; and two step-granddaughters.
The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 19, at First Baptist Church in Three Rivers, with Brother Bob Hobbins officiating. Interment followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Deacons Harold White, Jim Keys, Charles Woodward, Richard Dockery, Jimmie Custer and Ed Smith.

Clayton Robert McCain, 57, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville following a short illness.
Mr. McCain was born to Mary Annie and Welder McCain Sr. in Perth, Australia.
Survivors include his wife, Rubena McCain of Three Rivers; two sons, Shane McCain of Sweeny and Robert Eugene McCain of Three Rivers; two daughters, Lauri Kay Berry of Sweeny and Rominee Kay McCain of Three Rivers; two brothers, Weldon McCain Jr. of Three Rivers and Gary Dale McCain of Perth, Australia; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Roberson Funeral Home chapel in Three Rivers.

Minnie X. Morin, 53, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in a Corpus Christi hospital following a short illness. Mrs. Morin was born Dec. 13, 1948, to Beatrice (Casas) and Alejandro Ximenez Sr. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Morin of George West; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Ray and Sue Ximenez of George West; a brother, Alejandro Ximenez Jr. of Austin; and a grandson, Nicholas Ximenez of George West.
Visitation was held Sunday at Roberson Funeral Home. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. George Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George Church. Interment was in the San Isidro Catholic Cemetery in Pleasanton at 1:30 p.m.

Ascension Reyna Parker, 70, of Three Rivers died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Corpus Christi. Mrs. Parker was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Runge to Maximo and Christine (Breones) Reyna. She married Jimmy Parker on July 26, 1976, in Kenedy. She was a homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Cruz Reyna; and her first husband, Pablo Cruz Jr., in 1970.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Parker of Three Rivers; two daughters, Christina (Felix) DeLeon of Beeville and Lucinda (Bill) Griffith of Fashing; three sons, Pablo E. (Emily) Cruz and Cruz Cruz of Three Rivers and Eliseo Cruz of Beeville; a stepson, James (Vanessa) Parker of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandsons; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
Visitation was held Monday at the Galloway & Sons Funeral chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers, with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Organist was Jackie Stroleny.
Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery. Pallbearers were Phillip Griffith, Billy DeLeon, Brandon DeLeon, Paul Griffith, Adam Cruz and Danny Reyna.
Honorary pallbearer was Michael Reyna.

Retzloff
Adela Frieda Retzloff, 97, of Karnes City died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002. Mrs. Retzloff was a resident of Karnes City and a homemaker. She was also involved with the family farm and loved baking.
She was born on July 23, 1905, in Yoakum. She married Otto Retzloff on Nov. 15, 1927, in Karnes City. She lived in Peggy since 1929, before moving to Karnes City in 1996. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and had been confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fashing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; her father, William Heider; her mother, Mary Emma (Neuszer) Heider; two sisters, Minnie Hall and Alma Lieke; three brothers, Ed, George and Adolph Heider; and one grandson, Daren Retzloff.
Survivors include two sons, Arlon (Elsie) Retzloff of Whitsett and Carroll (Janet) Retzloff of Peggy; one daughter, Joyce (Clyde) Ethridge of Choate; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Karnes City with the Rev. Dr. Jon R. Bigsby officiating. Burial followed in the Fashing Cemetery.

Williams
LeRoy Larkin Williams, 65, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. Mr. Williams was born Jan. 4, 1937, in Kansas City, Mo., to Orpha (Snider) and Glenn Lewlen Williams. He married Agnes Bray in Ray Point on July 31, 1981. He was a warehouse manager and was employed by the Texas Department of Corrections for 10 years and owner of the George West Lumber Yard for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Orpha Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Williams of Beeville; six daughters, Kathy (Jim) McIntyre of Pearland, Debbie (Lynn) Bennett of Carthage, Cheri Wallace and Suzie (John) McMahon of Tomball and Kandy Cobb and Helen Williams of Beeville; one son, Raymond Cobb of Huntsville; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial followed at the Clegg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Bauer, Matt Migura, Joseph Snider, Travis Martin, David Smith, Andrew Snider, Charles Snider and Mario Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearer was Buck Timon.

Agnes Holland Work, 82, of George West died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline. Visitation was held Friday at the Galloway & Sons chapel in George West. The funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at Church of Christ in George West, with the Rev. Michael Orr officiating. Burial followed in the Clegg Cemetery in the Clegg Community.
Pallbearers were Bubba Catchings, Rocky McCumber, Little John McCumber, Doug Taylor, Cody Work and Phillip Williamson.
Mrs. Work was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Clegg, Live Oak County to Delonia and Emma Mae (Birkett) Holland. She married Ancel Paul Work on June 30, 1941, in Beeville. She was a homemaker and member of Church of Christ. She listened to gospel music, read the Bible, loved to work the crossword and loved to be visited by her great-grandchildren, who were the love of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ancel Paul Work, on Oct. 12, 1989.
Survivors include a son, Leon (Sharon) Work of George West; three daughters, Ann (John) McCumber of George West, Paulette (Billy) Catchings of Kingsville and Lucille (Alliee) Taylor of Mont Belview; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel (Wyett) Rouse of Alvin, Bennie Hendrick of Arkansas and Tula Hughes of Seguin; and two brothers, Gene (Theresa) Holland and J.E. (Louise) Holland, all of Beeville.
