Johnson

John M. “Jack” Johnson, 85, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in George West. He was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Clover, Utah, to Mark Anthony and Elizabeth Ellen (Maxwell) Johnson. He married Merlyn Margaret Manhart on Sept. 23, 1939, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mr.  Johnson grew up on the family ranch in the Ophir, Utah, area, where he attended school in Ophir and Tooele, Utah. He worked in the mining industry and at the time of his retirement, was superintendent for Homestake Mining Company in Grants, N.M.

Survivors include his wife, Merlyn; his daughters, Mary Ellen (Glen) Orr of George West, Jacqueline Grace (Knollie) Sell of Deadwood, S.D., Kathleen (Bill) Stambaugh of Sheridan, Wyo., and heart-adopted daughter, Marline Casey of Albuquerque, N.M.; 16 grandchildren; Margaret Orr (Robert) Solis, Lester (Fiona) Orr, Scott (Beth) Orr, Cindy Orr Scotten, Otto Orr, Matt Orr, John Sell, Geralyn Sell (Ray) Seng, Jacqueline Sell, Susanna Sell (Eric) Pennes, Thomas Sell, Molly Sell, Mark Hately, Jennifer (Mitch) Beranek, Linda Casey (Roy) Henson and Steve (Judy) Casey; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Grant (Myrtle) Orr of Ogden, Utah; a sister-in-law, Olive  Johnson of Grants, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Orr was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters and a beloved friend, Leslie Casey.
Burial was in Fort Collins,  Colo.
Arrangements were under the direction of Allnut Funeral Home.
At the time of his death, he and Merlyn were living with their daughter, Mary Ellen.

Patten

Diana Mae Patten, 76, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at her home in Corpus Christi after a long illness. She was born May 20, 1926, in Wichita, Kan., to Ralph and Mattie Edwards.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, C.T. “ Whitey” Patten; a son, Robert “Bob” Patrick (Cheryl) Patten; a daughter, Faye (Leo) Martinez; six grandchildren, Christopher Gallet, Dewayne Patten, Denise Simmons, Jana Gallet, Patrick Patten and Bonnie Patten; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph (Sharon) Edwards of Pearland and Bob (Wanda) Edwards of Fort Worth; two sisters, Lula Hunter of Corpus Christi and Helen Dupree of Houston; and one aunt, Pearl Kenesic of Fort Worth.

Mrs. Patten was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dennis Edwards, and a son, Donald Patten.
Mrs. Patten and her husband built a “hot shot” company in 1963,  Whitey Patten Hot Shot Service.

Visitation was held Tuesday in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi. The funeral was conducted at 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) in Arlington Heights Church of Christ with Gene Polvado and Gary Lowe officiating. Burial followed in Robstown Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Marcos Hernandez, Patrick Patten, Bruce Krietsch, Richard Atkinson, Brandon Simmons and Claude Zottich. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Krietsch, Dewayne Patten and Leo Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Arlington Heights Church of Christ in memory of Diana Patten, 2722 Rand Morgan Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78410.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Taylor

Beatrice Roberts Taylor, 95, died Monday, March 17, 2003, in a Three Rivers nursing home following a long illness. She was a retired school teacher with the Three Rivers Independent School District after teaching for 49 years.

Mrs.  Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Prentice Taylor; and a granddaughter, Linda  Taylor Coatney.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean  Taylor (Antero) Aguirre of Whitsett and D’Ann (Herbert Jr.) Harper and of San Antonio; a brother, James Roberts of  Louisiana; two sisters, Rilla Folsom of Luling and Annie Hansen of Bryan; two granddaughters, Kaye Harper Contreras and Leesa (Marwood) Harper Allen; nine step-grandchildren, Lupe Landry and Lynn Dauzat of  Louisiana, Margaret Wooley, Antero Aguirre Jr. and Mary Helen Neal, all of Waco, Luis Aguirre of Houston, Juan Aguirre and Bodie Aguirre, both of Austin and Betty Kinney of Arizona; five great-grandchildren, Ashlee Paige and Marlee Brooke Allen and Mike, Daniel and Cristian Contreras; 25 step-great-granchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Tuesday at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers.
A graveside service will be held today (Wednesday) at 1:30 p.m. in the Luling City Cemetery in Luling.

Bogenrife
Irene Ledwig Bogenrife, 76, of San Antonio died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
Mrs. Bogenrife was born Sept. 1, 1926, in George West to Thomas Ledwig and Eleanora (Sprencel) Ledwig. She was a retired accountant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Prosper A. Mika whom she married Jan. 20, 1947, in George West; her second husband, Carl Bogenrife; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bogenrife and Rita Ledwig Katzfey.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Mika of San Antonio; a daughter, Pamela Mika (Peter) Wolf of Buda; two brothers, Edward "Sonny" Ledwig of Cotulla and Anthony "Butch" Ledwig of Medford, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jessica Hanson (Jeff) Wilhelm of Manor, Patricia Hanson, Anna Hanson and Carolie Wolf, all of Buda; a great-grandson, Joshua Allan Wilhelm of Manor; and three brothers-in-law, Sixtus (Mary) Mika, Felix Mika Jr., all of Panna Maria and Aloys (Gertrude) Mika of San Antonio.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday in Panna Maria at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Wojciech Reisch and Monsignor Frank Kurzaj officiating. Burial followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.

Knorr
Thomas Wayne Knorr, 56, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at his residence in Beeville, following a long illness.
He was born to Clarence and Jewell Knorr on Dec. 31, 1946 in Chicago, Ill. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He went to the Great Lakes and served aboard the USS Enterprise. He was awarded several citations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea) and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. He was employed for the last 10 years with WasteQuip MayFab in Beeville. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewell Knorr.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Knorr of Beeville; two step-sons, Mark Boening of Beeville and Bryan Flower of England; three daughters of Beeville; one step-daughter, Sunshine Kaye Flower of Beeville; his father and step-mother, Clarence and Florence Knorr of Westmont, Ill.; and two sisters, Barbara and husband Rola Baker of Roseburg, Ore. and Janice Knorr of Georgia.
Services were held Saturday at 5885 Cherry Lane in Beeville.

Lieke
Martin A. Lieke, 93, of Kenedy, died Dec. 20, 2002, in Kenedy’s Otto Kaiser Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 30, 1909, in Seguin, to Henry and Johanna (Bode) Lieke. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Lutheran church.
He married Emma Buegeler on Jan. 1, 1934, in Jourdanton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill, Otto, Alvin, Harry, Hilbert and Raymond Lieke; and his sister, Wanda Lieke.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Lieke of Kenedy; two daughters, Irene Lieke of Floresville and Martina (Henry) Walleck of Kenedy; two sons, Elton (Saundra) Lieke of New Braunfels and Ronnie D. Lieke of Kenedy; a sister, Thelka (Harry) Coldeway of Brookesmith; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 23 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenedy with the Rev. Sharon Truelson officiating. Burial followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Buegeler, Roy Lee Fenner, Vernon Fenner, Arnest, Brian, Eric and Norman Lieke, Hubert Rudolph Jr. and Freddie Glenn Walleck.
Arrangements were handled through Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.

Neisler
Helen Louise Neisler, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, in San Antonio.
Mrs. Neisler was born March 8, 1936, in Boothbay, Maine.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Wooster.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Billie S. Neisler; her mother, Eleanor Bunker; four daughters, Ruby (Chris) Stewart, Teresa (Bill) Haywood, Patti (James)  White and Jo Ann Phillips; a son, Curtis Neisler; three sisters, Peggy Pharr, Sara Wagner and Sandy Sigurdson; seven grandchildren; and numerous friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be sent in her memory to East Tennessee School of Preaching, Knoxville, Tenn., or Freed-Hardman University in Henderson, Tenn.
Visitation was held Sunday at Colonial Funeral Home. A chapel service was conducted Monday, followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home, Universal City.

Spross
William B. “Bill” Spross, 95, of George West died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 in Humble.
Visitation was held Saturday at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Chapel in George West. The funeral was conducted Sunday at First Baptist Church in George West, with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clifford Word, David Bennett, A.J. Viertel, Jack Meyer, Thomas Word and Rendle Wilson.
Mr. Spross was born in Valley Mills to Ben G. and Gusta (Bietendorf) Spross on Aug. 1, 1907. He served in the U.S. Army during Word War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He married Seneda “Sue” Gebert in Gatesville on Oct. 6, 1940. He retired from the U.S. Civil Service-Soil Conservation. As a member of First Baptist Church in George West, he was a longtime deacon and Sunday school superintendent, having served more than 30 years. He was a part-time rancher after his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Seneda Spross of George West; a son, Ron (Jill) Spross of Humble; two grandchildren, Jeff Spross of Austin and Jennifer Spross of Rochester, N.Y.; and one sister, Tillie Moore of College Station.

Wernli
Georganna Wernli, 52, of George West died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville following an illness.
Mrs. Wernli was born on Aug. 6, 1950, to Jack and Georgia Campbell in Smithville.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Wernli of George West; her mother, Georgia Mae Cambpell of George West; her father and mother-in-law, Leslie and Jane Wernli of Three Rivers; a sister, Teddy Sullivan of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on Monday, Feb. 3, at First United Methodist Church in George West. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.

Gamez
Elma P. Gamez, 72, of Alice died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003. Mrs. Gamez was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice.
Survivors include two daughters, Elva and Mary Chapa, both of Alice; a son, Rudy Gamez of Alice; two brothers, Nerio and Felix Perez, both of Three Rivers; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in Alice. A Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial followed in the New Collins Cemetery in Alice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home in Alice.
