George V. Morales
George V. Morales, 47, of Rio Frio, Texas died November 29, 2005 at his home in Rio Frio. He was born March 8, 1958 in Dallas, Texas to Amador “Tony” R. Morales and Pelar Villafranco Morales.
He is survived by his father, Amador “Tony” Morales of Rio Frio; mother, Pelar Villafranco Morales of Dallas; sisters, Irene Morales and Elissa Morales of Dallas and brother, Amador “Tony” Morales, Jr. of Galveston, Texas.
Services were held Friday, December 2 in the Church in the Valley in Leakey, Texas. Jimmy Albarado officiated the services with burial in the Leakey Floral Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey, Texas.
Ivy Louise Brooks Sansom
Ivy Louise Brooks Sansom, 89, of Leakey, Texas died December 1, 2005 in St. George, Utah. She was born November 30, 1916 in Leakey, Texas to Carl L. Brooks & Lucy Homes.
She was preceded in death by her son John L. Sansom in 1940; her husband Homer Sansom in 1981; another son Dudley C. Sansom in 1994.
She is survived by one son Homer J. Sansom, Jr. and wife Joanne of St. George, Utah; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5th in the United Methodist Church in Leakey, Texas. Burial followed at the Leakey Floral Cemetery. The Leakey Chapter of the order of Eastern Star conducted the commital service.

Alisa Lane Whitley
Alisa Lane Whitley, 23, of Sabine Pass, Texas died November 29, 2005 in an auto accident in Port Arthur, Texas. She was born October 10, 1982 in Denison, Texas to Christopher Lynn Whitley and Penny Lane Pannell.
Alisa Lane Whitley was a 2001 Rocksprings High School graduate.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Bob Wallace; grandfather Bob Caillet; two sisters Brittany Whitley and Laura Caillet.
She is survived by her parents Penny Lane and Ken Wallace of Sabine Pass, Texas; father, Christopher Whitley of Paris, Texas; sisters Lesley Caillet of Sabine Pass, Texas, Ashley Finch and Jacey Whitley of Paris, Texas; brothers Christopher Whitley Jr., Whitney Whitley and Dillon Daniels of Paris, Texas; grandparents Eddie and Debbie Pannell of Camp Wood, Texas, Clariece Wallace of San Antonio, Texas, Ronnie and Tena Hicks of Direct, Texas and Russell and Sue Whitley of Paris, Texas.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2005 in the Barksdale Baptist Church in Barksdale, Texas with Reverend Carroll Vernor, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Vance Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brad Tucker, Michael Tucker, J. J. Wallace, Steve Parks Jr., Kevin Parks and Roy Parks.

Margaret Farnum Wicker
Margaret Farnum Wicker, loving mother, grandmother and friend, dled December 1, 2005 at the age of 87, in her daughter’s home in San Angelo after a short illness.
She was born May 6, 1918 in Barstow, Texas to the late Lovey George and Effie Miles Farnum. Raised on a dairy, she graduated from Barstow High School. In June 1946, she married H. LaVaughn Wicker in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
The couple resided in Pecos, Texas for 43 years where they raised daughters Jennifer and Cyd and son Garet. While in Pecos, Margaret worked for the Pecos Independent School District until her retirement in 1988. The following year, Margaret and LaVaughn relocated to Rocksprings, Texas to be with daughter Jennifer Callison and her family.
In Rocksprings, Margaret and LaVaughn joined the First Baptist Church where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple adopted Rocksprings as their home and Margaret made numerous friends, many of whom shared her passion for sewing and crocheting.
Margaret relocated to San Angelo, Texas in 2003, where she resided at Rio Concho Manner. During her time in San Angleo, she enjoyed seeing more of her family and making new friends.
Margaret is survived by daughter Jennifer and husband David Callison of San Angleo, son Garet Wicker and wife Larie of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and daughter Cynthia Cyd Wicker and partner Dave Ginsberg of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren Jeff Hart and wife Traci of Del Rio, Coy Callison and wife Kim of Lubbock, Carren Treadaway and husband Stanley of San Angleo, Chris Wicker and wife Dana of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Sara Wicker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and great grandchildren Lily Callison, Kendall Hart and Nathan Treadaway. In addition to her parents, she was proceded in death by husband LaVaughn and brothers Waters Farnum and C. M. Farnum.
Funeral services for Margaret were held at the First Baptist Church in Rocksprings, Texas at 3:30 p.m. on December 5th. Graveside services followed at Rocksprings Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings.
Elizabeth Jones Baugh
Elizabeth Jones Baugh, 96, of Leakey, Texas died April 6, 2006 at Cedar Hills Geriatric Center in Camp Wood, Texas. She was born February 10, 1910 in Rio Frio, Texas to William Plez and Eda Leistkow Jones.
She married Wesley Ray Baugh on June 15, 1930 in Bisbee, Arizona where he was working in the copper mines. As many during the depression he lost his job in the mines and they returned to Texas where they operated the Gulf Service Station on the corner of US 83 & FM 337 until the Leakey Bank closed and no one had money to buy gas. They did ranch work to make a living, after that Ray was the U.S. Mail carrier from Leakey to Sabinal for four years. Their son, Gary, was born in 1926 in Uvalde, Texas. Their next move was to San Antonio where Ray worked at Kelly Field. We were well into World War II by this time. Not liking the big city, they again moved back home and placed Gary in the Leakey school, his first grade teacher was Mary Crenshaw who had also been the first grade teacher of Elizabeth at the Rio Frio School. Four generations of Baughs have now attended the Leakey School. They bought out Jesse Robertson’s livestock and leased his ranch. They lived on the ranch for 21 years, during this time they bought a 640 acre ranch on Cypress Creek. They thought it was one of the best little ranches in the Frio Canyon. They also built the Humble Service Station in Leakey (the now Exxon Station). Ray helped build the Leakey High School gym, the first 4-H club show barn and the American Legion Hall. Ray was killed in a tragic accident on April 6, 1985. Elizabeth started to work in the Real County Courthouse in 1940 as Deputy County Clerk for five years, then as the Tax Assessor/Collector until 1959 when the County and School District separated. She was appointed to the School Tax Appraising and Collecting Office and served there until she retired in 1981. Elizabeth was a member of the Leakey United Methodist Church, the Leakey Methodist U.M.W., the Leakey Chapter #18 Order of Eastern Star, the American Cancer Society and the Chamber of Commerce. She lived on Mountain Street in Leakey in the home she and Ray built in 1972.
She was preceded in death by her parents Plez and Eda Jones, husband Ray Baugh, son Gary Baugh and three brothers, Henry, Eddy and Clem Jones.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Karolen Baugh, granddaughters Melissa Baugh and Amelis Baugh Stayton and great-grandson Blake Stayton all of Leakey.
Services were held Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Leakey. Burial followed in the Leakey Floral Cemetery. Pastors Don Tumlinson and Doug Smith officiated.
Pallbearers were James Pate, Dennis Schumann, Blake Stayton, Terry Jones, Josh Courtney and David Courtney. Honorary pallbearers were Ben Jones, Gary Hart, George Foshee, Kenneth Shankelford and Scott Belb.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Leakey EMS or Fire Department.
Ermene “Misse” Dumas
Ermene “Misse” Dumas, age 79, of Austin, Texas, died on Monday, March 27, 2005. She was born on March 7, 1927 in Rocksprings, Texas.
She retired after 30 years of service from the law firm of Brown McCarroll, where she worked as a Legal Assistant. She was Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Capital Area Paralegal Association and was also a member of the National Association of Legal Assistants.
Misse had many friends, she was a member of the “Wild Bunch”, a group of professional women who met each month to do charitable work, and a member of the Community Pool at St. David’s Rehabilitation Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Davis.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert C. Dumas, of Austin; son, Duwain Dumas and wife Dottie of Baytown; daughters Kathy Collins and husband Jerry of San Antonio and Susan Garrigus of Wichita, Kansas; five grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Private family services were held for Mrs. Dumas April 3rd on the Kickapoo Ranch where the cremains and flowers were placed in the West Nueces River where, as a child, she learned to swim. Attending the service: Bob Dumas, Mr. and Mrs. Duwain Dumas, Kathy Dumas Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Amstrong, Debra McCartney and Dumas’ cousin, Helen Fred of Rocksprings.

Howard B. Grooms
Howard B. Grooms was born May 8, 1922, to Martin Oran and Mattie Benskin Grooms in Mathis, Tx. They came to Rocksprings when Howard was 18 months old. He was raised in Rocksprings and graduated from Rocksprings High School. Howard married Norma Garrett on August 6, 1941. He served in the US Navy and was a WWII veteran. He and Norma returned to Rocksprings in 1949 to raise their two sons, Howard, Jr. ‘Butch’ and Michael Dewitt. Howard was a past master of the Rocksprings Masonic Lodge 758. He passed away on April 10, 2006. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years in September of 1993.
He is survived by his sons Howard Grooms, Jr. and Michael Dewitt Grooms and wife Charlotte; grandchildren Sandra Sue Stowell and husband Doug, Debra Diane Grooms, Mary Allison Burleson and husband Jason, Norma Paige Hendley and husband Glynn, Garrett Whittle Grooms and wife Holly, Michael Gordon Grooms and wife Audrey; great-grandchildren James Andrew Stowell, Terese Marie Stowell, Hershel Lance Burleson, Charlotte Grace Burleson, Zoe Paige Burleson, Jace Albert Hendley, Patricia Claire Burleson, Ty Michael Hendley, Cooper Howard Grooms and Ava Elizabeth Grooms.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday afternoon, April 11th in Rocksprings Cemetery. Services were commemorated by the Leakey Masonic Lodge members and Kenny Nunley presented the eulogy,.
Leonardo Flores Hernandez
Leonardo Flores Hernandez, 43, of Montell, Texas died April 7, 2006 while helping fight a local grass fire. He was born November 6, 1962 in Suchel, Durango, Mexico to Clemente Flores Hernandez and Maria Reyes Hernandez. Leonardo worked on the Reese ranch in Uvalde County, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father and two siblings, Juana Flores Hernandez and Agustina Flores Hernandez.
Survivors are his wife, Evangalena Gazarez de Flores; son, Nereyda Flores and daughter, Cristian Flores. Five siblings: Candelario Flores Hernandez, Felipe Flores Hernandez, Verta Flores Hernandez, Lucia Flores Hernandez and Audrelio Flores Hernandez.
Memorial services were held Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Camp Wood, Texas. Arrangements were made to return his remains to his home in Mexico for burial.
Sarah Louise Hankins Morriss
Sarah Louise Hankins Morriss, age 76, formerly of Sonora and Kerrville, was called home on October 17, 2007. Services were held Friday, October 19th, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sonora. Burial was at the Rocksprings Cemetery. Visitation and fellowship followed each service at First Baptist Churches of Sonora and Rocksprings.
Louise was born January 14, 1931, to Lowell and Sarah Hankins of Rocksprings. She attended Rocksprings High School, Stephens College in Missouri, Southern Methodist University and Juilliard School of Music in New York.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Sonora, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a leader in mission organizations. She served as President of the Sonora PTA, participated in Sonora Woman’s Club and enjoyed playing in several bridge clubs.
Louise was an accomplished pianist and saw to it that her home was filled with music. She treasured time spent at the ranch with her family, playing games and taking afternoon swims. She packed many a sack lunch and traveled many a mile to watch her daughters’ and her grandchildren’s activities.
In 1986 Louise moved to Kerrville, Texas, where she joined Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir, participating in mission organizations and benevolence ministries.
Louise married William L. Morriss on October 1, 1949, in Rocksprings. They raised and are survived by three daughters: Shelley and Jim Brooks of Waco, Molly Morriss of Sonora, Lucy and Jim Dingel of Dallas. Louise is also survived by five grandchildren: Marcus Brooks, Wesley Brooks, Sarah Cook, David Cook and Grant Dingel. Louise has three great-granddaughters: Kathryn Grace Brooks, Hannah Joy Brooks and Josie Faith Brooks. To arrive very shortly are two great-grandsons: James Wyatt Brooks and Caleb Paul Brooks. She is also survived by her sister, Lorelei Hankins and an aunt, Myrl Erwin, both of Rocksprings.
Pallbearers were her grandsons Marcus Brooks, Wesley Brooks, David Cook and Grant Dingel, and her two nephews Cliff McMullan and Steve Morriss.

Charles Daly Cowsert
Charles Daly (Pat, our “Pappy”) Cowsert left this world and joined our Heavenly Father and our many Angels early in the morning Friday, October 19, 2007. Ben, C.A., Cindy and Tim were praying over him as he ascended into Heaven.
Pat was born in San Antonio, Texas, June 2, 1933 to Mary Lou Daly Cowsert and Charles Avery Cowsert, the only son of that union.
He lived most of his young life and attended school in Uvalde, Texas. He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1951.
He attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas and graduated with a degree in Range Management in 1954. He, along with his dear deceased friend John Allen Davis, were proud cheerleaders at Sul Ross.
Pat’s first and only employment was with the United States Department of Agriculture as a District Conservationist.
He began work in Fredericksburg, then Del Rio and finally in Rocksprings where he worked with the fine ranchers and residents of Edwards and Real Counties. He was involved in several major developments in these counties. He spearheaded the development of the first Hunters BBQ and was very involved in the Rocksprings Airport project. He diligently followed his love of working with people to develop the land, until he retired to pursue his other love of ranching, raising fine Spanish goats and finally boer goats and cattle. He loved being out in the country and had every head of livestock eating out of his hand. He loved his dog “Bob” who was right at home in the back of the pickup and “Mozell’s” cats - Sandy and Rascal.
Pappy is survived by his beautiful, loving wife of 54 years, Mozell Cosper Cowsert, whom he absolutely adored. They were very happily married August 15, 1953 and built a lifetime of sweet, cherished memories. Also, his four sons and their families that he was so very proud of: Benjamin Daly and his fiancee, Cindy; Timothy Lynn and wife Patti; Charles Allen and wife Michelle and William Jeffery. His grandchildren include Ben’s - Tiffany, Courtney and Blake; Tim’s - Brook, Courtney, Lindsey and Collin; C.A.’s - Morgan, Cole, McKenna and Maura. He also had two great grandchildren.
Pappy is also survived by Lila and husband Roy Rosin and Goddaughters Marty and husband Shawn Fuller and Megan Faulkner.
Pat is also survived by one stepbrother, Charles “Chuck” Cowsert and his daughter Kenna, first cousins, Bobby Perkins (his fishing partner), Anne Daly Herndon, Mary Sue Daly Leffere and Eddie Daly.
He is further survived by his ranching partner, Jim Little Glasscock and Jim’s family Mary Jane Glasscock, Abby Gesch and Franklin and Susan.
Pat was preceeded in death by one son, baby Ronald Lynn, his beloved mother, Mary Lou Daly Coswert Merritt, his stepfather Dr. George H. Merritt, his father Charles Avery Cowsert and his stepmother Blance Cowsert, two stepbrothers, George H. Merritt II and Charles Edward Cowsert along with very dear friends of his mother, Ruth and Clarence Gober of D’Hanis, Texas. Pat spent much of his childhood under the caring eye of Mama Ruth and Daddy Clarence.
It is with great pleasure that we share Pappy’s life. Pappy was such a positive and reinforcing influence in all of our lives. He was the strongest, kindest, most gentle man with the sweetest spirit. His devoted Holy Catholic faith was a tremendous force in all of our lives and no one will ever, ever fill his boots. We are all so proud and so very thankful to be able to call him our “Pappy”.
Services were held October 23, 2007 at the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rocksprings, Texas with burial at the Vance cemetery in Vance, Texas. Father John Fiala officiated. Pallbearers were Ben Cowsert, C.A. Cowsert, Jeff Cowsert, Collin Cowsert, Cole Cowsert, Blake Cowsert and Tim Cowsert. Honorary Pallbearers were all of his dear friends. Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Homes, Rocksprings, Texas.
