Pedro B. Guajardo Jr. of Uvalde passed away on April 24, 2009 in his residence at the age of 73. He was born on September 10, 1935 in Rosita Coahuila, Mexico to Pedro Sr. and Tiburcia Guajardo. He married Rosa Maria Ramos in Uvalde, Texas on April 10, 1970. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Rosa Maria Guajardo of Uvalde, Texas; one daughter Melissa Campbell and husband, Robert of Uvalde, Texas; one sister; Consuelo Guajardo of Monclova, Mexico; two brothers; Raul Guajardo of Rosita, Mexico; and Jesus Guajardo of San Antonio, Texas; one grandchild; Chance Campbell of Uvalde, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; Alejandro Guajardo; two sisters; Beatrice and Cuca Guajardo; and one cousin Hector Zamora Sr.
Cremation services under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Joseph Edward Turner
My beloved father passed away and was welcomed into Heaven by his parents and sister on April 23, 2009 at the age of 63. He had fought a gallant battle with assorted health problems for several years.
He was born on April 29, 1945 in Sabinal, Texas to the late Ed and Lillie Mae Tillotson-Turner. He married his teenage darling Glenda Joan Adkins. Later in life, he married my mother, Margie Bernell Johnson Riggs.
He is survived by his little girl Judy Lynn Turner Coons an dhusband, Steven of Placedo, Texas; four loving sisters; Madeline Speeks of Sugar Land, Texas; Mary Jean Lillie of Sabinal, Texas; Lola Sheedy and husband, Lamar of Uvalde, Texas; and Laura Mae Estes and husband, Albert of Temple, Texas; as well as many kindhearted cousins, nieces, and nephews.
J.E. is preceded in death by his first wife Glenda Joan Adkins Turner and sister Betty Jo Turner.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10:00 AM in the Sabinal Cemetery.

Lola E. Arnim of Sabinal passed away on April 24, 2009 at her residence at the age of 101. She was born on August 4, 1907 in Utopia, Texas to Murray and Elizabeth Wentworth. She married Cecil Arnim in 1925. She is survived by one daughter; Mary Ann Hobart and husband, Frank of Sabinal, Texas; one son; Cecil Arnim Jr. and wife, Mary Ann of Uvalde, Texas; one sister; Annalee Burns of Castroville, Texas; grand- daughter- in- law; Susan Bailey of Sabinal, Texas; three grandchildren; David Bailey; Thomas Arnim and wife, Susan; and Cecil Arnim III and wife, Katrina; seven great grandchildren; Jim Bailey, Mary Katherine Bailey, Lori Sheedy and husband, Tolan; Elizabeth Arnim, Emily Arnim, Holly Boyle and husband, Duane, and Heath Bailey and wife, Starr; four great- great grandchildren; Charlie, Jamie, and Katie Sheedy, and Braelyn Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil Arnim, three sisters; and one grandson; Bill Bailey. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Sabinal with burial to follow in Sabinal Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas Arnim, Cecil Arnim III, Dan Keath, Bob Kruger, Horace Mauldin Jr., and David Howard, Honorary pallbearers will be Sid Mauldin, Marion Stewart, Hubert Felts, John Driskill and Eddie McKinney.

Henry Smith Trees

Henry Smith Trees of Uvalde passed away on May 2, 2009 at his residence at the age of 90. He was born on July 27, 1918 in De Soto, TX to Cabble and Clara (Parker) Trees. He married Floy "Tinker" Tierce in Uvalde on November 20, 1981. Mr. Trees was a carpenter in the Uvalde area since 1947. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Uvalde. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. from 1937-1939. Mr. Trees was one of the original volunteers of the Uvalde Hospice. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Uvalde. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Tinker Trees; three sons, Richard Trees and wife, Clodel of Richmond, TX, Robert Trees and wife Shirley of Ingram, TX; and Gaylon Trees and wife, Debbie of Uvalde; stepsons, Stephen Sparks of Oklahoma and Stanley Sparks of Ohio; one brother, Roland Trees of San Antonio; sister, Sue Brown of Uvalde; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Doris Schawe Trees; two daughters, Winona Faye Trees and Phyllis Richardson; two sisters, Mae Taylor and Annabel Coleman; brother, David Trees; and grandson, Guy Trees. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Don Tumlinson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tommy Allison, Paul Frizzell, Jackie Dukes, Archie McFadin, Walter Herrington, and Steve Parker.

Gloria Velasquez Olveda of La Pryor passed away on May 2, 2009 in Methodist Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 54. She was born on October 8, 1954 in Eagle Pass, Texas to Librado and Juanita Velasquez. She married Juan Jose Olveda in Eagle Pass, Texas on March 13, 1982. She is survived by her husband of 27 years Juan Jose Olveda of La Pryor, Texas; one daughter; Monica Marquez of Kermit, Texas; three sisters; Maria Anita Valles of Eagle Pass, Texas; Juanita Vallejo of La Pryor, Texas; and Esperanza Salinas of Iowa; three brothers; Oscar Velasquez of Eagle Pass, Texas; Raul Velasquez of Iowa; and Enrique Velasquez of Colorado City, Texas; one grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Cremation under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Thurman Ezra Ray of Georgetown passed away on May 9, 2009 in Austin at the age of 90. He was born on August 19, 1918 in Singleton, Texas to Robert and Nona (McDougald) Ray. He is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Denning of Washington, D.C. and Nona McGrath of Florida; and two grandchildren, Megan and Terry McGrath. Cremation was under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Vanderpool Cemetery.
Ruben Ambriz Ruiz

Ruben Ambriz Ruiz, Sr. of Ingram passed away on May 9, 2009 at his residence at the age of 49. He was born in Uvalde on May 19, 1959 to Juan and Ramona (Ambriz) Ruiz. He married Arcelia Ramirez in Uvalde on June 10, 1982. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Arcelia Ruiz of Ingram; daughter, April Mancias of Uvalde; son, Ruben Ruiz, Jr.and wife, Eva of Uvalde; mother, Ramona Ruiz of Uvalde; three brothers, John Ruiz and wife, Anna and Bobby Ruiz and wife, Cynthia all of Uvalde; and Richard Ruiz and wife, Elma of Sabinal; two grandchildren, Ariyah Mancias and Adalynn Ruiz; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. A prayer service will be held on Monday at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Templo Cristiano. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Edward De La Rosa will be officiating.
Meribel Fernandez
Meribel Fernandez, 43, of Haskell, Texas died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 in Abilene. A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Holden McCauley Funeral Home in Haskell. Visitation was held Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Nelson Funeral Home in Rocksprings, Texas. Funeral services were held Friday, February 2, 2007 at Rocksprings Church of Christ with burial in the Rocksprings Cemetery.
Meribel was born December 26, 1963 in Junction, Texas to Lerenzo D. and Juanita Garza Fernandez. She graduated from Munday High School and was a homemaker. Meribel will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son: Marcus Fernandez and wife Crystal of Haskell; brothers: Lorenzo Fernandez, Jr. of Vernon, Feliz Fernandez of Munday, Tony Fernandez of Kerrville, Joe Fernandez of Rochester, Solano Fernandez of Goree, Aldo Fernandez of Haskell; sisters: Gregoria Tamez of Donna, Mary Guzman, Florinda Arebalos, Melissa Fernandez all of Lewisville, Brenda Masias and Vickie DeLa Cruz of Haskell and two granddaughters: Destini and Amaya Fernandez.
Meribel was preceded in death by her parents, brother Roman Fernandez and nephew Johnny Castillo.
Holden McCauley Funeral Home of Haskell and Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings, Texas were in charge of the services.
Mark Hall
Mark Hall formerly of Barksdale, Texas died February 4, 2007 at his residence in Lytle, Texas, at the age of 48. He is survived by his mother Lois Felps Hall, also of Lytle.
Jimmy Yerg
Jimmy Yerg, 71, of Rocksprings died February 4, 2007 at his home in Rocksprings. He was born October 8, 1935 in Century, Florida to Stephen and Mary Yerg.
Jimmy was retired from Weaverxx Paper Suppliers where he was a Senior paper maker.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Yerg of Rocksprings and three children: Jim Yerg of Clear Lake, Texas; Jan Calhoun of The Woodlands, Texas and Jeff Yerg of Conroe, Texas; one grandson Kristopher Calhoun, mother Mary Yerg, sister Betty Bray; two brothers: Steven Yerg and Frankie Yerg and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Stephen Yerg.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the United Methodist Church of Rocksprings.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Cancer Society or Charity of your choice.
Cremation arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings, Texas.
Albert Darius Welch, Jr.
FORT WORTH -- Albert Darius Welch, Jr., 72, a retired New York Life agent, died Monday, February 5, 2007.
Funeral services were to be held next Monday at Genesis United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with burial at 1 p.mat Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. next Sunday at Thompson’s Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.
His memory may be honored with a gift to Scottish Rite Hospital, 222 Welborn St., Dallas 75219.
Albert Darius Welch, Jr. was born May 9, 1934 in San Antonio, the only child of the late Albert Darius and Sarah Elizabeth Beyette Welch, Sr. Welch’s father was Albert Darius Welch, MD, who served as a physician here in Rocksprings many years ago.
Welch served in the U.S. Marine Corp as a hospital corpsman and was Past Master of Poly Lodge #925 AF & AM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Welch.
Survivors: His wife of 33 years, Nancy; children, Albert D. Welch III and his wife, Linda, Victoria Welch, and Alex Wilson; grandchildren, David, Samuel and Katherine Welch.
Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Worth, Texas was in charge of arrangements.
Opal Agnes Phillips Brooks
Opal Agnes Phillips Brooks, 89, Leakey, Texas died July 23, 2005 at Brownwood Regional Hospital in Brownwood, Texas. She was born July 13, 1916 in Pottawattomie County, Oklahoma to John Andrew and Ethel Lewella Webb Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents John Andrew and Ethel Lewella Phillips; six siblings Norval Phillips, Orval Phillips, Ruby Clark, John Henry Phillips, Jimmie Curtis Phillips and Otis Phillips.
She is survived by daughter Arla Faye Hill and husband Weldon of Rising Star, Texas and son Doyle Lloyd Brooks and wife Kathy of Leakey, Texas.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26th in the Leakey Floral Cemetery with Brother Adrian Siller of the Leakey Church of Christ officiating.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey, Texas.
