Ruth Morriss
Ruth Morriss, age 94 of Mountain Home, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 in a local Kerrville nursing home.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10th at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
Graveside services were conducted at The Sunset Cemetery, Mountain Home, Texas, on Wednesday, January 11th at 2 p.m.
Born January 22, 1911, Ruth was educated in the Kerrville schools where she graduated from Tivy High School. With her two sisters, she attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and graduated with honors with a B.A. from The University of Texas, Austin.
Ruth became an avid reader and in later life she would tell with great delight of having read Les Miserables in French while in college. Likewise, she became an accomplished horsewoman, learning to “ride the range” as a child with her father on the family ranch on the Divide in Real and Edwards counties. Enthusiasm never waned for Ruth, an adept bridge player, be it party or duplicate.
In 1934 Ruth began a teaching career at the new, one room Dietert School on the Divide with ten students. The next eight years she spent teaching in Wichita Falls.
Following the death of her father, Airs Gilmer Morriss in 1945, Ruth and her sister, Patti Beall, assumed the management of A.G. Morriss & Co., ranching with their mother in Real and Edwards Counties. They were members of The Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association where
Ruth served as the first Secretary/Treasurer of the Auxiliary and The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Travel with Murray Cox and the Texas Farm Bureau took Ruth and Patti to many points of interest in the United States. Wonderful trips abroad with her three sisters were unique and memorable experiences.
Ruth was a member and Sunday School teacher at Trinity Baptist Church, Kerrville. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority; a Charter Member of Major James Kerr Chapter, DAR; The Alamo Mission Chapter, DRT; Ladies of the Thistle; The Colonial Dames and a Grand-daughter of UDC.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Airs Gilmer and Lily May Anderson Morriss; brothers: Thomas A. Morriss and Gilmer A. Morriss; sisters: Margaret A. Barrett and Lily May Overton. She is survived by her sister, Patti Beall Morriss of Mountain Home and Kerrville. Numerous nieces and nephews will cherish their fond memories of their dear Aunt Ruth.

Rena Joe Patterson Johnson
Rena Joe Patterson Johnson, 63, of Rocksprings, Texas went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2007 at her residence in Rocksprings. She was born October 22, 1943 in Uvalde, Texas to Jack and Otela Patterson.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She truly loved her family and friends, never knew a stranger and helped everyone that she could. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Rocksprings, Hill Country Cattle Women, a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, taught Bible studies at Little Miracles Child Care, an active participant of The American Cancer Society, Rocksprings Woman’s Club and enjoyed bridge clubs in Rocksprings and Leakey. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio and attended the University of Texas in Austin.
She was preceded in death by her father Jack Patterson, her husband W. R. “Red” Johnson and her son George Johnson. She is survived by daughters Susan Johnson of Houston, Lindsay Merritt and husband Gary of Leakey and Lanie Vickers and husband Cully of Mountain Home; grandchildren: Ryan Johnson, Luke and Sarah Merritt, Blake, Jacy and Cade Vickers; mother Otela Patterson of Mountain Home; sister, Allyne Crider of Mountain Home; brother, W. B. Patterson, III of Hunt and numerous nieces, nephews and friends everywhere.
Services were held Monday, April 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rio Frio Cemetery and a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rocksprings.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Rocksprings or to the Frio Canyon EMS in Leakey.
Arrangements were with Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings, Texas.
Lena Mae Robertson
Lena Mae Robertson, 73, of Seguin, Texas died October 19, 2005 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born December 18, 1932 in Regan Wells, Texas to Don Clark, Sr. and Lena Felts Clark.
She is survived by her children, Sheryl Ann Miller of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Jeanie Reynolds of Midland, Texas, Brad Downum and wife Angela of Leakey, Texas; brother, Don Clark, Jr. and wife Glen of Leakey, Texas; sisters, Francis Kirk of Odessa, Texas, Loise Fryer of Leakey, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2005 at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Leakey, Texas with Father John Fiala officiating.
Cremation arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey, Texas.
Dorothy H. Wells, 81 of Camp Wood, Texas died October 17, 2005 at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She was born December 17, 1923 in Victoria, Arkansas to Elijah D. Welden and Effie May Hughes Welden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Drennon and husband Ira Walter Wells, Sr.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Welden of Huges, Arakasas; two sons, I. W. Wells, Jr. and Duane B. Wells; two daughters, Cynthia A. Wells Fielder and Joye E. Wells; seven grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday October 22, 2005 in the Vance Cemetery with Pastor Greg Johnson officiating.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood.
Jose Saldana Mora, Sr.
Jose Saldana Mora, Sr., 86, of Andrews, Texas died February 5, 2006 at the Midland Hospital Hospice Unit in Midland, Texas.
He was born June 29, 1919 in Rocksprings, Texas to Donnette and Francisca Saldana Mora.
He was preceded in death by parents Donnette and Francisca Mora and sister Rosa Ramirez.
Survivors are children: Oliva Solis and husband Jesse of Big Lake, Texas; Donnie Mora and wife Ester of Boerne, Texas; Julia Garcia and husband Pete of Lubbock, Texas; Corina Sanchez and husband Richard of Ft. Worth, Texas; Maribel Mora of Andrews; Josephina Tavarez and husband Beto of Odessa, Texas; Belinda Luna and husband Ruben; Melinda Lopez, Linda Estrada and husband Kid all of Andrews; Jose Mora, Jr. and wife Selina of Midland, and Rosemary Mora of Odessa, Texas; 29 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one sister Jacinta Gonzales.
Services were held Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Rocksprings with burial in the Rocksprings Cemetery officiated by Jesse Solis.
Doris Porteous Sampson
Doris Porteous Sampson, 85, of Rocksprings, Texas died February 5, 2006 at her home in Rocksprings. She was born July 7, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Mr. and Mrs. Eric Porteous.
She is survived by one son: James Lees and wife Connie of Rocksprings; 2 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Grossman of Pittsburgh.
At Mrs. Sampson’s request there will be no funeral services. Cremation arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings.

Jack L. Wright
Jack L. Wright, 76, of Barksdale, Texas died February 5, 2006 at his home in Barksdale. He was born August 4, 1929 in Gosport, Indiana to Winfield and Shellia Wright.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Wright, who he married October 9,1971; two sisters: Ruth Sheese and Velda Stewart; three brothers: Winfield Wright, Jr., Donald Wright and Wayne Wright.
Survivors are daughters: Lori Wright of San Antonio and Marcie Wright of Barksdale; four grandchildren: Jack “Nick” DeLeon, Brittany DeLeon, Seth Wright and Victoria DeLeon; two brothers: Sam Wright and wife Mildred of Spencer, Indiana and Fred Wright and wife Beverly of Carp, Indiana; special friends: Marilyn Mann, Teresa Salina, Kelly Marshall and Tammy Lee; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Seth Wright, Nick DeLeon, Randy Ward, James Ward, Steve Ward, Dennis Ward and Lonnie Ward.
Services were held Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at the Frist Baptist Church of Camp Wood with interment in the Barksdale Cemetery.
Officiating the services were Carroll Vernor and Gary Jones.
Charlie Curtright
Charlie Curtright, 80, of Barksdale, Texas died July 12, 2006 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 23, 1926 in Oklahoma to Emmuael and Jessie Mae Boyd Curtright.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Merel Curtright; sister, Elsie Curtright; brothers, James, Leroy, Ted, Ed and Dan Curtright.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Hatley, of Barksdale; one uncle, Carl Curtright of California; niece, Joyce Curtright; nephew, Gary Curtright of San Angelo and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, July 15 in the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Camp Wood. Burial followed in the Barksdale Cemetery, with Brother Carroll Vernor, Jr., officiating.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood.
Richard A. Davis
Richard A. Davis, 60, of Leakey, Texas died July 22, 2006 at his home in Leakey.
He was born February 20, 1946 in Valasco, TX to Clyde and Hazel (Smith) Davis.
On July 3, 1966, he married Leona Pendley in Leakey. They later opened the Frio Canyon Grocery Store in 1980. He served in the United States Army and was also a member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion and the Frio Chamber of Commerce. He was also a past Fire Chief for the Leakey Fire Department and very active in civic and community affairs in Leakey. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Hazel Davis and his sister Michael Davis.
He is survived by his wife Leona Davis of Leakey; two sons, Richard A. Davis Jr. and wife Michelle of Leakey and Michael Lee Davis and wife April of Kerrville, TX; three grandchildren, Zoe and Zachary Davis of Leakey and Keith Dale Davis of Kerrville; two sisters, Dianne Rogers of Leakey, Tx. and Pam Davis of Waco, TX and four brothers-in-law, Jesse Lee Pendley and wife Hazel and Robert Pendley all of Leakey, John Pendley and wife Earlene of Niceville, FL and Henry Pendley and wife Meredith of Leakey along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday July 25, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Leakey with Brother Mark Spaniel officiating. Burial followed in the Leakey Floral Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenny Shackelford, Alex Vara, Dale Dowlearn, Larry Joe Chisum, Manuel Rubio, Jimmy Alvarado II, Jimmy Alvarado, III and Ruben Navarro.
Honorary pallbearers were Pee Wee Clark, G. W. Twilligear, Glenn Bradley and Billy Joe Brice.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey, Texas.
Sadie Jene (Draper) Stellick
Sadie Jene (Draper) Stellick, 76, formerly of Rocksprings, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Jene was born in Rocksprings, Texas on March 22, 1928, to George and Sadie Ella (Cassels) Draper. She graduated from Rocksprings High School and Santa Rosa Nursing School in San Antonio Texas. She served as a nurse in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
On December 6, 1952, Jene married Charles R. Stellick in Port Deposit, Maryland. After moving to La Crosse, she finished her schooling as a nurse anesthetist at St. Francis School of Nursing in 1955. After graduation, Jene worked part-time at St. Francis Hospital and Grandview Clinic. She later worked full time as a nurse anesthetist with Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, completing her career in 1990 after 30 years of service.
Following her retirement, she and Charles traveled extensively, including many trips to the Rocksprings area. Jene was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she was active in the St. Anne’s Altar Society.
Jene is survived by her husband Charles; four daughters, Nancy Stellick and Elaine Stellick, both of St. Paul, Minn., Suzanne “Sudie” (Joe) Lynch of Rockford, Minn and Annette (Rodney) Gibson-Stellick of Crystal, Minn; one son Charles B. (Cathy) Stellick of Hastings, Minn.; five grandchildren, Oliver and Adam Lynch, and Portia, Paige and Gavin Gibson-Stellick; one sister-in-law, Marian (Steve) Pavela of La Crosse; and one brother-in-law, Jack (Carol) Stellick of La Crosse. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Therese “Tese” Caldarelli; two sisters, Marie (Fritz) Kohlstedt and Georgia (David) Sturgeon; one brother, Wiley (Elizabeth) Draper, and one brother-in-law, Robert (Margaret) Stellick.
Memorials may be given to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, La Crosse Wisconsin.
Robert Ashley Harris, Jr.
Robert Ashley Harris, Jr., 82, of Tunica, Mississippi died of pneumonia on Sunday, January 30, 2005 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He was born May 28, 1922 in Memphis, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Jr. High School Principal.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ashley Harris III in 1995.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jean Balentine Harris; daughter, Charlaine Harris Schultz of Magnolia, Arkansas; brother, Charles Phillip Harris of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Patrick Schultz, Timothy Schultz and Julia Schultz all of Magnolia, Arkansas.
Services were held on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the Presbyterian Church in Tunica, Mississippi. Burial followed at the Oakwood Cemetery with Paul Husband officiating.
Pallbearers were Pat Johnson, Abbott Myers, Bill Gidden, Sterling Wither, Mickey Johnson, Tommy Sides, Duke Perry, Wes Bailey, Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Bailey, Jimmy Eubanks, Neal Block and Harvey Ash all of Tunica, Mississippi.
Arrangements were by Memorial Funeral Home of Tunica, Mississippi.
