George Neil Dalton
George Neil Dalton, 63, of Camp Wood,  Texas passed away January 10th in Eagle Pass,  Texas. He was born April 6, 1944 in Camp Wood,  Texas to Noah Clarence and Dimple Routh Dalton.
He married Virginia Ann Harpe on June 18, 1963 in Warner Robins, Georgia. He retired from the Air Force and was active in many local activities, including helping to organize the EMS in Nueces Canyon. He loved his family, friends, hunting arrowheads, history and was an avid genealogist. His other passions included photography, growing pecans and traveling. He was also a member of the Barksdale Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one infant son, David Paul Dalton, his parents Noah Clarence and Dimple Dalton Speck and one sister Billie Witt.
Neil is survived by his wife of 44 years, Virginia Ann Harpe Dalton of Camp Wood; three children, Charles Andrew Dalton and Karen Michele Dalton of San Antonio and Mary Elizabeth Dalton of Kerrville as well as one grandson, Ryan Michael of San Antonio. He is also survived by three brothers, Gary Joe and wife JoAnn, Ronnie and wife Linda of Camp Wood and Roy Dalton of Rocksprings along with one sister, Evelyn Ives and husband Sammie of Camp Wood and one brother in law, Don Witt of Camp Wood and fifteen nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his loving dog Belle.
Graveside services were held January 13th at the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Brother Carroll Vernor, Jr., officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Dick Tucker, Rene Guerra, Sammie Ives, Gene Gaddy and all of his morning coffee drinking buddies.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Homes of Camp Wood.

Betty Howell
Betty Howell, 70, died January 13, 2008 in Uvalde,  Texas. She was born February 1, 1937 to Richard and Vivian Sinclair in Detroit, Michigan.
Betty is survived by her husband, Donald G. Howell of 44 years and sister Jan Henderson.
Betty was an active member of AHMATA in Camp Wood,  Texas, volunteer for Camp Wood Library, member of the Methodist Church of Barksdale,  Texas and secretary of TWU.
Memorial services will be held Friday, January 18th at the Methodist Church in Barksdale at 2:00 p.m.
Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood,  Texas.

Nellie Ray Ellis Waddell
Nellie Ray Ellis Waddell died at her home Friday, January 11, 2008 after a long illness.
She was born June 15, 1939 to Elton and Claudia Ellis in Rocksprings, Tx. She married Dale Waddell July 28, 1956. She and Dale lived in Rocksprings, Kerrville, San Angelo and Dallas. They moved back to San Angelo in 1998 and retired.
Nell worked at the San Angelo State School from 1972 until her move to Dallas in 1986, where she worked for the Cedar Hill School District until her move back to San Angelo. She worked at the State School again from 1998-2001 and then retired.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Joe, Buck and Jimmy. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tommie Nell in 1959.
Nell is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dale and their two children, Tom Waddell of San Angelo and Penny Yerena of Ft. Worth. She is also survived by two wonderful grandchildren, Cam Snow of Eagle Pass and Ashli Kaczor and her husband Tim of El Paso. She leaves behind one beautiful great-grandaughter Addy. Nell is also survived by one brother, George Ellis. She also leaves behind two spoiled pets, Roxie and Harry.
Nell was a loving wife and mother and doted on her family endlessly. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor, but mostly will be remembered by her family and friends for her ability to make anyone feel as though they were a part of her family. Strangers and acquaintances were always welcome in her house. She often expressed her love through her cooking and her holiday meals will be sorely missed.
The Waddell’s extend special thanks to Dr. Vayden Stanley and the wonderful and caring staff at Vista Care Hospice Services. Your kindness will forever be appreciated. The family also offers thanks to friends, neighbors and extended family members for their patience and support. Services were held on January 14, 2008 at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo followed by a graveside service and burial in the Rocksprings Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings.

Webster Bradley  Whitelaw
Word has been received that Webster Bradley  Whitelaw died in California. He was 100 years old. He was born in Santa Paula, California on October 5, 1905, the only son of Robert and Alma Bradley  Whitelaw.
On January 15, 1972 he married Irene Brink Harris of Rocksprings. He lived there for 26 years and attended the Rocksprings Baptist Church.
Three years following Irene’s death in 1994, he returned to his old home in California.
He is survived by his son, Wesley  Whitelaw, a daughter and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was buried on Saturday, July 22, 2006 in Santa Paula, California.

Maggie J. Nelson
Maggie J. Nelson, 90, one of Jehovah Witness, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 in her residence in Fort Stockton,  Texas. She was born July 4, 1915 in Camp Wood,  Texas to John and Lena Shipman. She married Marvin Nelson on November 12, 1933 at Barksdale Ranch,  Texas.
Lena is preceded in death by, her husband Marvin Nelson, her parents, John and Lena Shipman, two sisters Dorothy Pennington and Isophen Farris and one brother Sydney Shipman.
She is survived by sons: John A. Nelson and wife Jean; Joe T. Nelson and wife Algianita all of Fort Stockton; daughter Geneva McMain of Port Arthur,  Texas; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Maggie J. or Mama J., as most people knew her, was born in Camp Wood and lived in that area until she moved to Ft. Stockton in 1996. Some of her happiest times were spent with her family on her ranch just outside of Barksdale. She loved the outdoors and taking care of her pets. She worked with the Nueces Canyon School District in the school cafeteria for 25 years until she retired in 1985. She was a faithful follower of the Jehovah Witness and was often recognized for her punctually, dedication to her studies and witness to others. She will be well remembered for her wonderful meals which always included your favorite food if she knew you were going to be there. Her face would light up when she was talking about her children, she was so proud of them.
Graveside services were held April 1st at the Barksdale Cemetery.

Delores G. San Miguel
Delores G. San Miguel, 99, of Camp Wood,  Texas died January 17, 2006 at her home in Camp Wood. She was born September 18, 1906 in Edwards County,  Texas to Benito and Francisca Hernandez Carabajal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel San Miguel, Sr.; daughter, Mari Moreno; son, Paul San Miguel; two grandsons, one great- grandson and one great-granddaughter.
She is survived by three sons: Manuel San Miguel, Jr., Castulo San Miguel and Johnny San Miguel all of Camp Wood; two daughters: Celia Cavazos of Uvalde,  Texas and Roberta Serrano of Camp Wood; one brother, Felix Carabajal of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren and twenty-two great-great grandchildren.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19th at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Camp Wood.
Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Father John Filia officiating.
Pallbearers were Stevan San Miguel, Joe San Miguel, Luis San Miguel, Paul San Miguel, Jonathan San Miguel, Albert San Miguel and Timothy San Miguel.

Robert Walker
Robert Walker, age 31 of Harper, died Thursday, January 19, 2006 in a San Antonio hospital. He was born July 15, 1974 in Fredericksburg to Hollis Wayne Walker and Kathrine Mae Wahrmund Walker.
He was a loving son, husband, father and friend. He loved his kids and great uncle. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Harper.
He is survived by wife, Grace Walker; parents, Hollis and Kathrine Walker; grandmother, Ollie Walker; three children, Angel Marie Walker, Annette Grace Walker and Ethan Alan Walker all of Harper; brothers, Bradley Walker and wife, Holly of Harper; Charlie Walker of Junction and Hollis Walker of Harper; uncle and aunt, Vernon and Sharon Wahrmund of Harper; uncle and aunt, Melvin and Joeslyn Conner of Junction; parents-in-law, Juan and Maria Enriquez of Rocksprings; sisters-in-law, Myrna Enriquez and Nelly Franco both of Rocksprings; nieces Cydney, Baylee and Marti Walker of Harper and Liliana Franco of Rocksprings.
Visitation was held Sunday, January 22nd at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
Services were held Monday, January 23rd at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by Curtis Klein and Delmar McKracken. Burial followed in the Harper City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Hollis Walker, Bradley Walker, Charlie Walker, Vernon Wahrmund, Juan Enriquez and Lalo Franco.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harper EMS.

Sally Hutto Haeber
Sally Hutto Haeber was born July 23, 1954 in Rocksprings,  Texas. She passed away October 17, 2005 in Kerrville,  Texas at Sid Peterson Hospital after a brave battle with cancer.
Sally is survived by her husband, Jerry Haeber; her two sons, Joe Bill Carpenter and John Clay Carpenter all of Rocksprings and a stepdaughter, Holly Haeber, of Kerrville.
She is also survived by her sister, Kitty and her husband Wayne Lewis of Del Rio, two nieces, Lynzee and Chelsea Lewis, one wonderful aunt, Mary Lee Lauson of Del Rio, cousin Bobby McCulley and numerous family and friends.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Dorothy Leigh Hutto and her brother Milton Hutto.
Growing up in a ranching family in Carta Valley, Sally developed a love for this way of life. She continued to ranch throughout her adult life while also being employed by the Farm Service Agency (FSA), formly known as ASCS in Rocksprings for over 29 years. She received a plaque for 25 years of service in 2001 and a cash award for Outstanding Employee Performance from October 1, 2002 through July 31, 2003. Sally faithfully served in the office assisting others with her bright smile.
Services will be held at Nelson Funeral Home in Rocksprings,  Texas at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20th with burial following at Carta Valley Cemetery .
Pallbearers are Clark Hankins, Mike Craddock, Roy Lee Hutto, Mike Grooms, Joel Gourley and Johnny Whitworth.

Harlan O. Hobbs
Harlan O. Hobbs, 89, of Barksdale,  Texas died January 23, 2008 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital in Uvalde,  Texas. He was born October 30, 1981 in Real County near Leakey,  Texas to Elmo and Minnie (Harlan) Hobbs.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Beatice Whittle Hobbs; one sister, Ruby Shelley and one brother Otto Hobbs.
He is survived by two sisters, Vena Northcutt and Reba Hicks both of Camp Wood,  Texas; second wife, Hazel Tucker Hobbs of Houston,  Texas; one daughter, Sherri Hobbs Cernik and husband of Taylor,  Texas; two sons, Harlan L. Hobbs and wife Charlene of Uvalde and Tommy Hobbs and wife Rhonda of Junction,  Texas; three grandchildren, Susan Hobbs Murr, Tammy Michelle Hobbs and Dustin Davis and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Barksdale Cemetery in Barksdale,  Texas.
Services under the direction of Nelson Funeral Homes of Camp Wood,  Texas.

Thomas A. “Tommy” Morriss
Thomas A. “Tommy” Morriss passed from this life on Thursday, January 17, 2008. Tommy was born February 2,1930, in Kerrville, TX to Thomas and Lucy Mae Morriss. He grew up on the Divide and attended a one-room schoolhouse until the sixth grade. He finished his schooling at Tivy High School in Kerrville. He then attended  Texas Tech University for two years where he studied Agriculture. Tommy married Doris Ann Brown of Rocksprings on June 10, 1950. Tommy and Doris have three children: Mindy, Ann and Steve.
Education of our youth was of importance to Tommy. He served on the Jeff Davis Co. School Board, Uvalde ISD Board of Education for seven years, and on the Board of Educators for the Education Service Center Region 20 for eighteen years.
Family, faith and livestock were Tommy’s life. He enjoyed farming, ranching, and, most recently, became a leader in the Boer goat industry. While living in Uvalde, he owned Uvalde Equipment Company for thirty-four years; a John Deere dealership. He always said his “hobby” was M&M Trucking Co. owned by him and his brother, Bill Morriss.
Tommy has friends and admirers from far and wide through his many endeavors and love of Boer goats. He was a very patient, kind gentleman and “gentle man.” He took great joy and pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a very soft spoken individual with a beautiful smile and tremendous faith. For the past three years, Tommy accepted health difficulties with courage and graciousness. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bill Morriss.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, and their three children: Mindy and Richard Hurt of Dilley, Ann Morriss and Steve Morriss of Sonora. His grandchildren: Travis and Jamie Hurt of Dilley, Holly and Trey Preston of Pearland, Morriss and Erin Hurt of San Antonio, Ashlie and Cody Schenkel of Sonora, Desirae Bolt of Austin, Stephani Morriss and Ethan Morriss of Sonora. His great-grandchildren: Cooper Hurt, Clay Tom Hurt and Payton Armbrister. He is also survived by an aunt, Patti Beall Morriss of Kerrville and three nieces: Shelley Brooks of Waco, Molly Morriss of Sonora and Lucy Dingel of Dallas. As he was a member of the First Methodist Church, there was a memorial service held at the First Methodist Church in Sonora at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008. Burial followed at the Sunset Cemetery in Mountain Home,  Texas at 3:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church of Sonora, Hospice of San Angelo, or the charity of your choice.
