Gonzales
Lorenzo C. Gonzales Jr., 90, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at his residence in Pawnee.
Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Pawnee, with Father Peter Gajda officiating. Burial followed at the Nell Cemetery.
Mr. Gonzales was born on Aug. 11, 1932, in Pawnee to Lorenzo C. and Benita (Carrion) Gonzales. He married Oralia Martinez on Nov. 23, 1957, in Muleshoe.
Mr. Gonzales was former member of the Pawnee Independent School District board of trustees and former caretaker of the Nell Cemetery. He was a retired fiberglass worker with Wishert-Thompson, working there 23 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Isabel Gonzales; two sons, Juan L. Gonzales and Leo Gonzales; and three grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Oralia Gonzales of Kenedy; seven daughters, Clara (Pete Jr.) Duenes, Lydia (Greg) Gonzales and Rebecca (Ramiro) Tapia, all of Pawnee, Sylvia (Lee) Garza and Mary Ann (Roy) Gutierrez, both of Kenedy, Sara Michelle Gonzales of San Antonio and Flora (Ignacio Jr.) Rodriguez of McAllen; three sons, Leonel (Maggie) and Luis Gonzales of Kenedy and Lorenzo (Mary Ann) Gonzales III of Beeville; five sisters, Eustacia Alejandro of Belton, Anita and Aurora Gonzales, both of Pawnee, Olivia Garcia of Kenedy and Brijida Saenz of Weslaco; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pickens
Ella Hertha Salge Pickens, 90, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel in Beeville. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the same location with the Rev. Mark Spence officiating. Special music will include “Peace in the Valley” and “In the Garden,” with organist Orleane Megason and vocalist Dr. Gary Williams.
Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Karnes City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Weldon Winsauer, Paul Kolodzie, Sherian Salge, Joel Pickens, Mark Sugarek and David Foster.
Mrs. Pickens was born on Oct. 4, 1912, in Karnes County to Christian Ernest and Rosa (Stautzenberger) Salge. She married Jack Hayden Pickens on Nov. 11, 1933, in San Antonio. She was a former Tynan resident. She had resided for the past year at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living facility in Idaho Falls.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beeville for 70 years. She was an active member of the PTA and formerly active in Bee County youth activities, spending 16 years as the director of the Tynan Youth Center from 1948 to 1966. She enjoyed dancing and all sporting events, especially those involving the athletic teams of Skidmore-Tynan ISD. Mrs. Pickens was active in the operations and management of the family farm and ranching business. She graduated from Karnes City High School in 1930. She attended business college in San Antonio and worked in the office of a children’s clothing manufacturer. She lived in Austin and Corpus Christi, where she and Jack owned a refrigeration business. They moved to Tynan in 1943 and engaged in farming and ranching.
Her husband preceded her in death on July 10, 1998. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Pickens and wife Ann of Victor, Idaho, and William E. Pickens and wife Beverly of Delaplane, Va.; four grandchildren, Paige Pickens Stotts and husband Dr. Alan Stotts of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kyle Pickens of Dallas, Shannon Pickens of St. Michaels, Md., and Leslie Pickens of Warrenton, Va.; one great-grandson, Hayden Kendrick Stotts of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Rose Kolodzie of Houston; two brothers-in-law, Cecil Pickens of Austin and Eugene Pickens of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Beeville building fund.

Puga
Gabriel Puga, 47, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Prayer services were held that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at the same location with the Rev. Richard Carrera officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Puga was born on June 9, 1955, in Beeville to Alvino Villarreal Puga and Esperanza (Garcia) Puga. He married Gloria Treviño on Dec. 16, 1980, in Beeville. He was a disabled truck driver and a member of El Buen Pastor Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria T. Puga of Beeville; four daughters, Cecilia Duke of Orange, Clarissa Puga of San Diego, Calif., and Gloria and Roxyann Puga, both of Beeville; four sons, Gabriel Puga Jr., Joe Anthony Puga and Ignacio Treviño, all of Beeville, and Gabriel P. Harstad of Minnesota; his mother, Esperanza G. Puga of Beeville; a brother, Alvino Puga Jr. of Beeville; five half-brothers, Elisandro, Raymundo and Armando Puga, all of Beeville, Adelvino Puga of Killeen and Abraham Puga of Mission; two sisters, Rachael Puga of Mission and Alma Puga of Mexico; three half-sisters, Yolanda Sylvia Sanchez and Elida Bowen, both of Beeville, and Maria Eleana Rosas of San Antonio; and one grandson, Joshua Trey Treviño of Beeville.

Taylor
Lola Ruby Taylor, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. She was born on Oct. 2, 1919. She was retired from Naval Air Station Chase Field and the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station as assistant director of housing. She also served as secretary to the state and local chapters of the Winnebago Club. She was preceded in death by her son, Ed O’Donnell; her daughter, Edith Lewis Hill; and two brothers, Ordia and Haskel Webster.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband of 27 years, Jesse K. Taylor of Corpus Christi; her son, James A. O’Donnell and wife Mardene of Houston; a daughter-in-law, Frances O’Donnell of Richmond; six grandsons; two granddaughters; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Chapel in Corpus Christi. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Wagner
Charlie M. Wagner, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Bettye) Wagner; his parents, Robert and Isabel Wagner; his brother, Lowell Wagner; and his sister, Ruby Glendoris Wagner.
He retired after 35 years of service as manager of Nueces Electric Co-op in Robstown.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Fred) Houston of Vernon and Judy (Richard) Smyth of Corpus Christi; his brother, Dr. William J. Wagner of Tuleta; his sisters, Mildred Powell of Reno, Nev., Bobbie Miller of McDonald, Kan., and Viola Rosenbaum of Karnack; his grandchildren, Anna Mae McKnight of Fort Worth, Raymond Houston of Vernon, Kelli Owens and James Williams, both of Corpus Christi; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home in Canyon from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a graveside service, under the direction of Pastor Clark Williams, in Dreamland Cemetery at 1 p.m. that day.

Ynez Peña Ybañez, 93, died at her home in George West on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003.
She was born on Jan. 21, 1909, in Oakville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pablo, and her sons, Vicente and Pablo Ybañez Jr.
She is survived by her sons, Benito Ybañez and wife Martina and Cristoval Ybañez of George West and John Ybañez and wife Gloria of San Antonio; her daughters, Frances Gonzales and husband Raul and Elodia Leal, all of George West, and Emma Garza and husband Andres of Arlington; her sister, Maria Castillo of Corpus Christi; and brother, Brigido Peña of George West; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel in George West. Rosary will be recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Interment will follow at the George West Cemetery. Louis Garza, 52, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. Visitation was held Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Danny Madrigal and Mario, Felix, Fred, Richard and Gilbert Garza.
Mr. Garza was born in Runge on Aug. 10, 1951, to Felix and Julia Garza. He married Nora Coronado in Mathis on June 26, 1982. He was a Catholic and resided in Beeville. He was disabled and had previously worked with Wal-Mart in the maintenance department.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Guadalupe Garza.
Survivors include his wife, Nora C. Garza; two daughters, Rebakah Ann Garza and Krystal Lynn Garza, all of Beeville; a sister, Linda Pennington of Clear Lake; six brothers, Jesse Garza, Felix Garza Jr. and Fred Garza, all of Runge, Richard Garza of Victoria, Gilbert Garza of Nordheim and Bobby Garza of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are pending at Treviño Funeral Home for Eufemia Garcia Gonzales, 86. She died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at her home in San Antonio.
Hicks
Frances Loretta Hicks, 84, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003.
Visitation was held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel, with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. Graveside services were held Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Vernon Helgren officiating. Burial followed at Beeville Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hicks was born on June 24, 1919, in Bee County to John and Mary (Williams) Martin. She married G.T. Hicks Jr. in Beeville on April 1, 1939. She resided in Beeville and was a retired bank officer at First National Bank. She was a Methodist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy Hicks and wife Susan of Beeville and Pat Hicks of LaVernia; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Salazar
Estella G. Salazar, 76, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, after a long illness.
Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Everhart Chapel in Corpus Christi, with a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at noon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. Burial followed in Corpus Christi’s Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Salazar was born on Oct. 14, 1927, in Beeville. She was preceded in death by her husband, David G. Salazar Sr., her father, Pedro Garcia, and her mother, Margarita Cantu.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Jerry) Serna and Elvia Salazar; a son, David G. (Virginia) Salazar Jr., all of Corpus Christi; a sister, Dora Castilla of Beeville; two brothers, Ernest Garcia of Kyle and Richard (Yvonne) Garcia of San Antonio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Carabajal
Elvira V. Carabajal, 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at 9:14 a.m. in the Beeville hospital.
She was born Dec. 6, 1919, in Bee County to Guadalupe Morales and Alvino Vasquez. She was a housewife. She was married Sept. 21, 1947, to Pedro Carabajal. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2002. She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Carabajal is survived by a daughter, Margarita Barrera of Lubbock; three sons, Jorge V. Garza of Austin, Leo Carabajal Sr. of Beeville and Rick Carabajal of Wolfforth; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.

Castor
Joseph Llewellyn Castor, 74, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2005.
Visitation was held Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons funeral home. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at the same location at 2 p.m. Special music will include “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Castor was born in Slippery Rock, Pa., on Nov. 2, 1930, to John Jey and Gladys Amanda (Cooper) Castor. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1968, retiring as RMCS. He married the former Colleen Bowden in Norfolk, Va., on July 31, 1952. She preceded him in death in 1980. Mr. Castor remarried in 1991 to the former Lydia Selby of Beeville. He retired from Bee County College in 1990, having served on that administration for 20 years. He was a former Cub Scout leader and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Selby Castor of Beeville; a daughter, Terry Schroyer of Beeville; three sons, Dwayne and Joey Castor of Beeville and Daniel Castor of Atlanta, Ga.; a stepson, Mark Matthews of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters, Linda Matthews of Fort Worth and Mary Selby of California; four brothers, Donald J. Castor of Linesville, Pa., Richard Castor, Lavern Castor and Robert Castor of Seattle, Wash.; and 12 grandchildren.
