Mr. Louis "Louie" Heimann, Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the age of 86. He was born in Kerrville to Louis Frank Heimann, Sr. and Ollie Schaper Heimann on July 30, 1917. He called Kerrville home his entire life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Verda Afton Heimann to whom he was wed on June 3, 1950.
Louie attended Kerrville schools, graduating from Tivy High School. Following high school, he worked with his father in their ice business before taking a job as driver for the Kerrville Bus Company. His favorite route took him to Pecos, and he enjoyed bringing home Pecos melons for his family and friends. Louis took time off from Kerrville Bus to serve his country from October 1942 to November 1945 in World War II. He then returned and drove until his retirement in 1982 after 42 years service. "Peepaw," as he was called by his family, loved his cars and loved to drive. For many years after retirement, he operated a chauffeur service, transporting his "Golden Girls" to their needed appointments.
Louie was a member of the Kerrville Masonic Lodge #697, A.F. & A.M. having received his fifty year pin in 1998. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason, 32nd Degree, was a member of the Alzafar Shrine, and past President of the Hill Country Shrine Club.
Louie, an avid Aggie fan, also loved kids and sports. He served as a Cub Scout Master and was president of the Kerrville Little League for many years, enlisting his family to run concession stands and help out when needed. He was presented with a Tivy letter jacket in recognition of the many years he drove the Tivy football team to away games all around the Hill Country and beyond.
Louie Heimann is survived by his children and their families: daughter, Sharon Fields and her husband, Rocky of Houston; daughter, Cathy David and her husband, Darrell and their children, Amy Oehler of London, England, Melissa and Duane Galligher, Hailey Oehler, Drew David, Tori David and Callie David, all of Austin; and son, Louis "Bud" Heimann, III and wife, Brenda and their children, Megan Heimann, Meagan Murray, Drew Murray and Louis "Jake" Heimann, IV, all of Kerrville.
Pallbearers are Jake Heimann, Drew Murray, Joe McKiddle, Rocky Fields, Darrell David and Duane Galligher.
The family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at Grimes Funeral Chapels. Rev. James Collins of First Baptist Church, Palacios will be conducting services. Graveside services will follow at Glen Rest Cemetery under the auspices of Kerrville Masonic Lodge #697, A.F. & A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the Kerrville Little League or the charity of ones’ choice.

Adren R. Heisler

Adren R. Heisler, 85, of Pipe Creek, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007, in a San Antonio hospital following a heart attack. On October 29, 1921, in Kendall County, near Bergheim, he was born to Gus Heisler, Sr. and Elizabeth Callahan Heisler. In 1922, the Heisler family moved to Bandera County and settled near Pipe Creek where Adren attended school and grew to young manhood. At a young age, he began construction work with Jake Babbit and learned the trade. In October 1942, he went into the U. S. Air Force and honorably served his country during World War II. Following his discharge from the service, he established his own construction business and later was employed as foreman for J. C. Worster & Company until 1963 when he resumed his own business.
In 1970, he was elected Bandera County Commissioner of Precinct #2 and served eight years from 1971 to 1979. During his tenure as County Commissioner, the EMS was organized and other progress was made in county government. He was also instrumental in helping establish a volunteer fire department in Lakehills and was an active volunteer in it and other community organizations.
On April 24, 1981, at Lakehills, he married Gladys Theis Edwards, who survives him. Other survivors include three step-daughters: Claire Hayman (Bill) of San Antonio; Sharon Vannoy (Sid) of Lakehills; and Mardi Edwards (Julius Crater) of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren; numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera on Monday, February 26, 2007, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, February 27, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera with Mr. Martin Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Pipe Creek Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers.

Johnny Highsmith

Johnny Highsmith, age 65, a resident of Ingram for 35 years, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2004 in a Kerrville hospital. He was a prior resident of Utopia, TX.
Johnny was born November 17, 1938 in Utopia, TX to Lee and Gertrude (Guess) Highsmith. On February 28, 1980, he married Lois Crider in Ingram.
Mr. Highsmith was a veteran of the United States Army, member of First Baptist Church of Ingram and the Hill Country Promenaders.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Highsmith of Ingram; parents, Lee and Gertrude Highsmith of Boerne; daughter, Linda (Highsmith) Chaney of Sulpher, LA; sons, Joe Highsmith and wife, Marrissa of Ingram and Robert Cowen and wife, Darla of San Angelo; sister, Ina Waite of Bulverde; thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Terrall Cowen.
Services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2004, 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Ingram, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Allen. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Jones Cemetery in Utopia, TX.
The Deacons of First Baptist Church of Ingram will serve as pallbearers.

Wynston Charles Hill

Mr. Wynston Charles Hill, age 55 of Hunt, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2003 at his residence. He was born July 3, 1947 in Paige, Texas to Wynston and Lydia Martha (Wagner) Hill. He married Christine Pyle in Houston on August 7, 1987.
Mr. Hill was a retired Train Master for the Southern Pacific Rail Roads. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Hill of Houston; daughter, Heather Rene Hill McCulloch and husband, Ben of Eden, Texas; son, Jason Charles Hill and wife, Marla of Murphy, Texas; sister, Virginia Ritter of Friendswood, Texas; three grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan and Hallie McCulloch and one great grandchild, Adam Hill.
No services will be held at this time.

Raymond M. Hitchcock
Born in Cloud Croft, NM on June 25, 1914

Mr. Raymond M. Hitchcock, age 88 of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2003 in a San Antonio hospital. He was born June 25, 1914 in Cloudcroft, NM to Frances Charles Hitchcock and Willie Lea Morgan Hitchcock. He married Lillian Donaldson on June 22, 1941 in Roswell, NM.
Raymond was raised on a farm-ranch in Weed and Sacramento, NM. At ages 17, 18 and 19, he farmed with the help of the Otero County of Agricultural Agent, of the University of New Mexico, Las Cruces.
His education included electrical engineering and automotive engineering, business administration and was a real estate broker in Texas.
Mr. Hitchcock spent 37 years in the wholesale automotive parts industry in New Mexico, Texas and California, with time out for military service in World War II. He served 12 years as a vice president, ending with Arrow Warehouse in La Verne, California, a division of Republic Automotive Warehousing and a partner in the business.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lillian Donaldson Hitchcock of Kerrville; son, Lee Edward Hitchcock of Colmesneil, Texas; two sisters, Helen Aileen Hitchcock Allen and Evelyn Mae Hitchcock Trefry; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren . He was preceded in death by two children, Lynne Marie Hitchcock Clark, age 50 in 1995 and John Raymond Hitchcock, age 21 in 1968.
He retired from the Automotive industry in 1972. He then went to real estate school in Austin, Texas, earning a Texas Broker’s License. His work was in Williamson County, Georgetown, Texas and retired in 1976 at age 62.
Raymond and Lillian moved to Kerrville to the The Wilderness Park in 1977. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on the Administrative Board, in the Choir, and was President of the Keystone Bible Class in 1981. The couple took Bible classes, Disciple # I, II, and III.
His hobbies included, photography, antique cars, camping, trailering, and writing many short articles. He wrote four manuscripts called "The Clouds of New Mexico", "A New Plateau", "The Winds of Change", and "The Desert and Beyond."
Raymond loved his Lord most of all, then his family, his business career, his friends and neighbors. Church life was at a high priority. This all together made him successful.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 18, 2003, 3:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church.

Leonard L. Holloway

Leonard L. Holloway, 80, of Kerrville, died Wednesday, August 13, 2003. He was born March 23, 1923, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Mamie and Leonard Holloway. Leonard was a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and received a Master’s from the University of Oklahoma. He also received an honorary doctorate degree and was an ordained Baptist minister.
He served seven years in the U.S. Air Force and fought in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He remained in the reserve for 20 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. As a reservist, he attended National War College. He was awarded Air Medal with clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross and several combat and other ribbons and battle stars.
Mr. Holloway served two terms as Mayor of Kerrville and also worked as an executive assistant for the H. E. Butt Foundation, and was Executive Director of the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce. He assisted the Butt family in the establishment of Laity Lodge Foundation Camp, located in Leakey. He was formerly the President of Mary Hardin Baylor University in Belton and the University of Corpus Christi. He was vice president at two Baptist seminaries, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He served on numerous boards in the Kerrville community and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Leonard was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; two daughters and their husbands, Sha and Tommy Cowan of Austin and Jamie and Mike Aven of San Antonio; and four grandchildren, Hannah and Shane Smith of Fort Worth, Cara Cowan of Austin and Connor and Sam Aven of San Antonio.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 10:00 a. m. on Monday, August 18th, 2003. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston, at 2:15 p.m., in San Antonio. Pallbearers will be Mike Aven, Tom Cowan, Shane Smith, Stan Foskett, Berry Hawkins and Gene Blanton. Honorary pallbearers will be Connor Aven and Sam Aven.
The family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Sunday, August 17th, 2003, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the charity of choice or to Sid Peterson Hospital Hospice, Salvation Army, or the Kerrville Humane Society.

Dorothy Lowry Hoops

Dorothy Lowry Hoops was born on May 23, 1921 in Ault, Colorado, the daughter of Vincent and Mabel Lowry. She demonstrated an early talent for both vocal and instrumental music and performed frequently during her school years. Always the secretary of every organization she belonged to, she attended secretarial school and worked until her marriage as a secretary. In 1943, she met and married Fred Hoops in California and became a Navy wife. Devotion to each other and family and service to their community were hallmarks of their life together, first in California, then in Colorado and finally in Texas. Mrs. Hoops went to join the Lord on March 9, 2007.
Mrs. Hoops was a popular music teacher for over 35 years, teaching both piano and organ to many children and adult students. In addition, she served as organist for many years at the Methodist Church to which she belonged. She participated in many activities for her two children, as well as many civic and charitable organizations. One of Mrs. Hoops’ most proud accomplishments was her correspondence with Joan Killon of England. They became "pen pals" at the age of ten and corresponded throughout their lives, over 75 years. Mrs. Killon named her second daughter "Dorothy" after her pen pal. In the 1970s they finally met when the Hoops’ made a trip to England. The following year, Mr. and Mrs. Killon visited the United States. The Hoops’ traveled extensively during their retirement, both in the United States and abroad.
Dorothy Hoops was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Delwin Lowry, sister Anita Morton and son David Hoops and son-in-law Walter Kasper. She is survived by her daughter Susan Kasper of San Antonio, grandson Jim Kasper and wife Lexy of Austin, Texas, granddaughter Kalynn Pirkl and husband Nick of Albuquerque, New Mexico, granddaughter Laurie Andersen and husband David of Hanford, California, great-grandchildren Juliana and Alexander Kasper, Jakob and Zachary Pirkl, and step great-grandchildren Ryan, Samantha and Noah Andersen.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville, Texas. Graveside services will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dietert Claim Senior Services Center in Kerrville, Texas would be appreciated.
Carl Howell Hopper

Carl Howell Hopper was born to Vincent Ezra and Nellie Howell Hopper on November 30, 1924, in Henderson, Tennessee. He was reared in Tennessee. He obtained his education at Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky, and Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. He earned Masters' degrees in both Education and Mathematics.
During WWII, Carl served in the United States Army (1943-1946), seeing action in Belgium, France and Germany. In 1949, in Martin, Tennessee, he was wed to Daisy Todd. They first made their home in Tennessee, where Carl served as a public school teacher and a principal.
Carl and his family moved to Lovington, New Mexico, in 1958. Carl taught high school mathematics in Lovington from 1958 until is retirement in 1986.
Carl Hopper was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lovington. He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Hobbs, New Mexico.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy, who passed away in August, 2000. In October, 2000, Carl moved to Kerrville, Texas, to live with is son and daughter-in-law. Here he enjoyed attending Sunrise Baptist Church with his family. He especially enjoyed the "Fifth Sunday Singings" of the church.
Until recently, Carl attended the Take 5 Program at Dietert Claim and participated in the KISS Program at Dietert Claim.
Carl Hopper passed away at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital in Kerrville on December 16, 2003. He is survived by two sons: Sherman L. Hopper (and wife, Margaret) of Kerrville; and Norman C. Hopper of San Francisco, California; four sisters: Gladys Nicholson, of Henderson, Tennessee; Mildred Hazelgrove, of Beaufort, South Carolina; Clara "Dolly" McCarver, of Medon, Tennessee; and Marlene Baldwin, of Sumpter, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, Daisy, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Clarence and Bill; two sisters, Edna and Ruby, and his parents, Vincent Ezra and Nellie Howell Hopper.
A memorial service will be held for Carl Hopper at the Sunrise Baptist Church, Kerrville, Texas, at 6:30 p.m., December 17, 2003. A Funeral Service will be held at Smith-Rogers Funeral Home in Lovington, New Mexico, at 10:00 a.m., December 20, 2003. Interment will be at the Lovington Cemetery. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer and Parkinson Disease organizations.
