Lynett Baker Richards
Lynett Baker Richards, of Lorena, died July 5, 2006 at the age of 87.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Waco Memorial North with the Rev. Mike Patterson officiating.
Mrs. Richards was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Crawford to the late Henry and Bertha May Baker. She was a longtime resident of Waco and a 1936 graduate of Waco High School. On June 25, 1938, she married Patrick Mallory Richards. After retiring in 1989, she moved to Lorena and worked in the Lorena High School cafeteria until 1994. She attended Lorena Baptist Church and was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat Richards; and a son, Doyle Richards.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Richards and Calvin Richards; one daughter, Patricia Dorris; three brothers, Melvin Baker of Marlin, William Baker of Gatesville and Ben Baker of Waco; two sisters, Jean Keith of Florida and Florence Queen of New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Maurice G. Thorp Sr.
Maurice G. Thorp Sr., age 77, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2006.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at 3 p.m. in the Blanco Cemetery, Blanco, Texas.
Mr. Thorp was born April 13, 1929 in Blanco County, Texas. He was the son of the late George T. Thorp and Olga Lou Fuchs Thorp. He married Faye (Waddell) Adams on September 22, 1945 in Johnson City, Texas. They moved to Gatesville on January 22, 1951. Maurice was one of the original nine people who started working at the CONSITE, North Fort Hood which is now MATES. Maurice retired from MATES on April 9, 1983. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Trey Thorp and a brother, James Thomas Perry.
Survivors include wife, Faye Thorp; son, Maurice (Butch) Thorp Jr. and wife Diane; daughters, Ramona Gieseke and Pam Mettlach and husband, Len; sisters, Alma Whitamire and Wilma Jo Owen; grandchildren, Audrea Beckett, Clint and Debbie Mettlach, Jessica Edwards, Melody Furr, Christi and Cory Smalley, Jerry and Tammy Wright and Kim and Jimmy Adams; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Bessie Youngblood
Bessie Youngblood, of Temple, died Aug. 5, 2006, in Temple. She was 90.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Christian Life Church in Temple with Pastor Rick Gillis and grandson Michael Barron officiating. Burial was Wednesday at Browning Cemetery in McAlister, NM.
She was born March 16, 1916, in Erie, KS, to the late Charlie and Rosie Wikle. At the age of 6, she moved with her family to New Mexico in a covered wagon. On Dec. 1, 1935, she married Dee T. Youngblood in McAlister, NM. They farmed in New Mexico until the 1950s when they moved to Clovis, NM. They ran a service station until the death of her husband in July 1980. She moved to Jonesboro in October 1999, where she lived with a daughter until moving to Temple in 2004. She was preceded in death by two young daughters, Mattie May and Joyce Danna Youngblood.
Survivors include her sons, John Youngblood of Amarillo and Ernest Youngblood of Temple; daughters, Edith Barron of Jonesboro and Ruth Youngblood of Dallas; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to God’s Learning Center in Midland.
Joe Darrell Everett
Joe Darrell Everett of Killeen died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 in Austin. He was 71.
Funeral services were held Monday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories in Killeen.
Mr. Everett was born June 24, 1935 in Killeen to James D. Everett and Lucy Phillips Everett Vroman. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Stanley Everett.
Survivors include his mother, Lucy Vroman of Gatesville; sons, James Everett of Austin, MI and Billy Everett of Austin; daughter, Lorrie Marin of Harker Heights; brother, Randy Vroman of Gatesville; sisters, Billie Schoppe of Waco, Nell Shirley of China Spring and Sherrell Broam and Connie Jones, both of Gatesville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clarence Victor Chandler
Clarence Victor Chandler of Gatesville died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007 at his residence. He was 85.
Funeral services were held Friday at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Burial followed in the Pearl Cemetery.
Mr. Chandler was born April 29, 1921 in Temple to the late Lonnie and Alma Chandler. He attended school in Pearl before he married Gearldine Tarrance in 1946 following his tour of duty during World War II. He later married Norma Landphier in 1995. He was a member of the VFW Post #8230 in Gatesville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gearldine; brother, Arvil Chandler; and sister, Dora Lee Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; daughters, Matti J. Chandler and Shawna R. Houchens; step-sons, Roy Kronenberg and David Kronenberg; step-daughter, Rhea Lange; sister, Geneva Willoughby; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of individual’s choice.
James Ingram
James Ingram, age 55, of Flat, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held at 2 PM Friday, February 9 at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Ingram was born September 7, 1951 in Temple, TX, the son of Clyde and Inez Shelton Ingram. He grew up in Flat and Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School in 1969. Mr. Ingram was a correctional officer at TDCJ, retiring from the Terrace Unit in 1999. He married Janice Neatherlin in 1989. He resided in Flat most of his life. Mr. Ingram was a member of Maples Masonic Lodge in Flat. He was preceded in death by his father Clyde and his brother Kenneth.
Mr. Ingram is survived by his wife, Janice Ingram of Flat; mother, Inez Hemphill and husband Melvin, of Copperas Cove; daughter, Jamie Ingram of Flat; sons, Coy Ingram, Chad Brinkley, and Ricky Spires, all of Gatesville; sister, LaBeth Cooper of Flat; five grandchildren, Lauren, Dalton, Jacob, Tryston, and Collin.
Veda Williams
Veda Williams, 101, of Gatesville passed away on Friday, February 9, 2007. Funeral Services wereheld at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Diggs officiating. Visitation was from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Miss Williams was born on March 30, 1905 in the Ft. Gates Community of Coryell County to the late Young and Georgia Williams. Veda attended school in the Pleasant Grove Community and graduated from the Ewing School. She was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church where she served as the church secretary and a faithful choir member for many years. She also worked at the school cafeteria for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ruby McCarver, Beatrice Price, Esteen Williams, Lorene Warren and Edith Peavy.
Veda is survived by her brother, Young “Babe” Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alma Martin
Mrs. Alma Martin, age 98 of Gun Barrel City, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Tuesday, February 13th at the Gatesville Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Burial followed at the Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin is survived by a daughter, LuJuana Watson and husband Gary of Kemp, TX; grandchildren, Sheri Green and husband Mark of College Station and Karen Woolheater and husband Kirk of Balch Spring; step-granddaughter, Shannon Garfield and husband Brian of The Colony; great grandchildren, Brittney Green, Haley Green, Kassi Woolheater, Kyle Woolheater, Emma Garfield and Annabelle Garfield and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Julia Ann (Jan) Lengefeld
Julia Ann (Jan) Lengefeld of Fort Meyers, FL died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007. She was 76.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at the Seven Lakes auditorium.
Mrs. Lengefeld was born in Gatesville to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim Sheridan. She attended Gatesville High School and the University of Texas. She lived in St. Louis and Cape Girardeau, MO before moving to Seven Lakes in Fort Myers in 1988. She served as a volunteer over the years.
Survivors include her husband, Francis (Tink); daughters, Lynn Cassilly of Fort Myers and Leigh Lengefeld of St. Louis, MO; son, James Lengefeld of Lemoore, CA; and three grandchildren.

Bess Bond
Mrs. Bess Bond, age 88 of Gatesville, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2007 at a local hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, February 13th at the First Baptist Church of Gatesville with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial followed at the King Cemetery.
Bess was born on May 24, 1918 in Levita to the late Otto Truman and Nannie Lee Osburn Bates. She grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1936. She married Weldon Eugene Bond on June 28, 1936 and they resided in King for over 50 years. She showed a gift for styling hair at the age of twelve and began doing hair in her home at that time. She was a beautician in a beauty shop for 59 years; she opened the Vogue Beauty Shop and operated it for over forty years, retiring in 1993. Bess was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville and taught 1st and 2nd grade Sunday school for 15 years. Bess loved her Lord and shared her faith with everyone around her by the way she lived. Her positive outlook and her humor showed others the joy her faith gave her. Bess was a member of the Morris Federation. Along with her husband, she was a charter and life member of the Coryell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving as Vice President numerous times; she had accumulated over 3000 hours of volunteer service. She was preceded in death by her husband on October 27, 2005 and a granddaughter, Jennifer Peterson.
Bess is survived by a daughter, Lindy Peterson and husband Paul of Elgin; a son, Dr. Weldon Eugene Bond, Jr. and wife Dana of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Wanda Monroe of Corpus Christi; a brother, Joe C. Bates of Licking, MO; six grandchildren, Christopher Bond and wife Serena, Courtney Bond, Colleen Bond, Amy Gonzalez and husband Ramiro, Greg Kearns and Lexy Kearns; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Bess Gonzalez and Braydon Bond.
