Ina Mae  Jones Boren, age 88, of Andrews passed away Friday August 11, 2006 in Gatesville,  Texas.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday August 15, 2006 at McKinney Acres Baptist Church in Andrews. Rev. Ted Short will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews West Cemetery.

Ina Mae was born August 10, 1918 at Hawley,  Texas. She married Delmond Doyle (Bill) Boren November 11, 1933 in Tarzan,  Texas. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was also preceded in death by: Son- Delmond George (Punk) Boren; Daughter - Birdie Evelyn Heidelberg.

She is survived by: Sons - Tim Boren of Belle Fuche, SD; Dale Boren of Ft. Worth, TX; Danny Boren of Hamilton, TX Larry Murphee of Cuching, OK; Daughters - Fay Doyle of Gatesville, TX; Sue Padgett of Robert Lee, TX; One Brother - Eugene (Dock)  Jones of Arlington, TX; 27 Grandchildren; and numorous Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren.

She was known to many as Momma Boren.

MARION CHAPMAN
August 8, 2006

Services for Marion Chapman, 79 of Andrews, will be 10:00 AM Friday, August 11, 2006 at Second Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Kevin Covington, pastor of Second Baptist. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

Marion passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2006 in Odessa.

Marion was born on December 31, 1926 at McCamey,  Texas. She married Doug Chapman on December 27, 1946 at San Anagelo,  Texas. Marion was a waitress at Buddy's Drive In for 28 years, she retired in 2001. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church, her husband Doug preceded her in death on May 2, 1982.

Survivors include; daughter Brenda and husband Ronny Gandy, Hobbs, NM, sons Tom and wife Liz Chapman, Ft Stockton, TX and Coley and wife Donna Chapman of Walhalla,  South Carolina; brothers Tom Spurger, Rock Springs, TX and Dick Spurger, San Angelo, TX; sisters Lulia Rufla, Omaha, Nebraska, Helen Williams, Milisap, TX, Sadie Gafford and Pat Hoelscher both of San Angelo, TX, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

DICK T. CUMMINS
August 3, 2006

Funeral services for Dick T. Cummins, 89, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 7, 2006 at the Andrews Church of Christ with John Snider of Greenwood Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

He passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa.

He was born May 7, 1917 in Grandfalls,  Texas to Aaron Dale Cummins and Mary Jane Amberson Cummins. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Dorothy Scarlett on November 16, 1946 in Monahans. They moved to Andrews in 1957 from Brownfield. He had worked as a electrician for Magnolia Oil, which later became Mobil, for 30 years in Brownfield and Andrews. He was a past member of Mobil Annuitant Club in Andrews. He was a member of the Andrews Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters.

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy Cummins of Andrews; 1 son: Craig Cummins and wife Bonnie of Andrews; 1 daughter: Scarlett Lee of Odessa; 1 brother: A.C. "George" Cummins of Midland; 2 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

DORTHY 'DOT' OLIVER LEWIS
August 3, 2006

Funeral services for Dorthy "Dot" Oliver Lewis, 49, of Dallas will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Calvary Baptist Church in Andrews with Rev. William S. McDonald, brother in law from Garland, and Rev. Robert L. Lee, brother in law from  Oklahoma City, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Grant, Jr., A.D. Grant, Ray Dunn, Jason Lee, Shane Oliver, Jesse A. Lee, and Bobby Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne McDonald, Andre McDonald, William S. McDonald, Jr., Eric Bailey, and Jesse L. Oliver, Jr.

She passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco.

She was born on February 8, 1957 in Carthage,  Texas to A.D. Oliver and Mattie Mae Robison Oliver. They moved to Andrews in 1967, and she graduated from Andrews High School in 1974. She moved to Garland from Andrews in 1974. She worked for Verizon, which used to be GTE, as a customer care advocate since 1992. She did missionary work on her own and was a mother figure to alot of kids. She was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her son: Tobie Lewis in 1982; her father: A.D. Oliver in 1994; and her brother: Willie Oliver in 1980.

She is survived by her mother: Mattie Oliver of Andrews; 9 sisters: Willie McDonald of Garland; Lula Parker of Slidell,  Louisiana; Betty Anderson of Garland; Cris Jenkins of Benbrook; Blondiel Dawson, Margo Oliver, Ruby Grant, Crissy Bailey, and Jo Armstrong all of Andrews; 5 brothers: Jesse L. and Clyde Oliver of Odessa; Jesse D. and James Oliver of Slidell,  Louisiana; and Raymond Oliver of Andrews; 5 Godsons: Isaiah, Reginald, Xavier, Keziah, and Jeremiah; and longtime family friend: Lonnie Lewis of Dallas.

WILLIAM JAMES 'JIM' UNDERWOOD
August 3, 2006

Funeral services for Jim Underwood, 95, of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Monday, August 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Andrews with Rev. Ivy Shelton of Sherwood Baptist Church in Odessa. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.

He passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at Willow Hill Assisted Living Facility in Andrews.

He was born on March 24, 1911 in Andrews County around Shafter Lake to William James Underwood, Sr. and Mary Daisy Smyers Underwood. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1928; where he was the only student in the class; and loved to tell everyone he was the Valedictorian and the Salutatorian. He married Connie Mae McCarley on October 18, 1936 in Westbrook. He helped establish and serve on board for the the Andrews Boys Club; helped establish and serve on the board for Otto's Boys Ranch in Notrees; helped establish the Andrews Housing Authority; and was a past member of the Andrews Evening Lions Club. He was a member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge #1024 and had served as a past Master. He received his Master Mason Degree in 1933 and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He owned and operated a wholesale gasoline business; owned and operated Underwood Oil Company; and was a past owner of Apple Core Framing. He owned several buildings in town including one along time ago named "Main 66 Cafe". He was a member of the Commercial State Bank Coffee Drinkers Club. He took great pride in being the oldest living native in Andrews County. He loved and cared for his wife for many years, which was the joy of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on September 14, 2005; 1 brother; and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his 1 son: James Underwood of Andrews; loved family member: Dee Becker of Midland; and 1 granddaughter: Creecy Hare of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Memorials may be sent to the Andrews Senior Center or the Andrews Masonic Lodge #1024.

RILLA MEEKS BROOKS
July 30, 2006

Graveside services for Rilla Meeks Brooks, 64, of Odessa will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 2, 2006 in the Andrews West Cemetery with Rev. Clydel Chapman, Pastor of Northside Baptist Church in Odessa, officiating.

She passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2006 at her residence in Odessa.

She was born on May 2, 1942 in Fort Madison, Iowa to Bennie Lee Meeks and Audie Hazel McCoy Meeks. She had lived in Odessa since 1953. She graduated from Permian High School in 1960, which was the first class to graduate from Permian. She worked as a bookkeeper for Tommy's Jewelry Store in Odessa for 10 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Odessa. She married Walter Brooks on January 1, 1990 in Odessa. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Odessa. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband: Walter Brooks of Odessa; 2 sons: Darren Hightower of Odessa and Mark Brooks and wife Vicki of Tulsa,  Oklahoma; 1 daughter: Tammy Allison of Odessa; 1 brother: Jim Meeks of Houston; and 1 grandson: Justin Brooks of Tulsa,  Oklahoma.

Memorials may be sent to Odyssey Hospice or Su Casa Home Health in Odessa.

LELLA FOWLER
July 24, 2006

Services for Lella Fowler, 83 of Andrews, will be 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Minister C.A. Smith with the Southside Church of Christ in Andrews. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.

She passed away Monday, July 24, 2006 at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews. She was born on November 6, 1922 in Burkburnett,  Texas. She married Barney Joe Fowler on October 12, 1951 in Lovington, New Mexico. Lella was a Nurse, she attended the first nursing class offered by Permian General Hospital.She worked at Permian General Hospital and for DR.'s offices in Andrews for 30 years. She was a member of the South Side Church of Christ. Barney Joe preceded her in death on September 15, 1987. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and E.G. Roby and two sisters; Grace McQuitty and Florence Carter

Suvivors include, three sons; Virgil Battenfield, Gun Barrel City, Texas, Carl Battenfield, Gardendale,  Texas and Barney Fowler, Andrews,  Texas; one daughter, Alva Jones, Brownfield,  Texas; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

PATRICIO M. RIOS
July 23, 2006

Memorial services for Patricio M. Rios, 69, of Andrews will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Owen Sugg of Andrews officiating. Cremation will be under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

He passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the Home Hospice House in Odessa.

He was born on December 10, 1936 in Shafter,  Texas to Manuel Rios and Concepcion Miranda Rios. He married Maria Elena Sanchez on June 11, 1960 in Odessa. They moved to Andrews in 1977 from Odessa. He worked for Kirby West Manufacturing in Andrews as a die cast foreman from 1974-2000. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, his truck, and his dog "Penny". He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother: Ruben Sanchez in 1979.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Rios of Andrews; 2 sons: Patrick Rios and wife Vivian of Andrews and Raymond Rios and wife Dee Anna of Frisco; 2 daughters: Carolyn Sena of Plano and Adela Silver and husband Eric of Nashville, Tennessee; 2 brothers: Robert Rios and Joe Miranda of Odessa; 2 sisters: Juanita Ramirez of Midland and Victoria  Jackson of Odessa; and 7 grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice House, 903 North Sam Houston, Odessa,  Texas 79761.

JOHN WATSON ERTEL
July 23, 2006

Funeral services for John Watson Ertel, 84, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 27, 2006 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Speaker John Oliver of Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.

John passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

John was born on February 8, 1922 to John Walter Ertel and Ida Mae Hamilton Ertel in the back of a funeral home in Mancos, Colorado. He married Joyce Elizabeth Terrill on August 15, 1942 in Long Beach, California, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. During their courtship, John was affectionately called "Teeter" by Joyce. He served in the US Army during World War II. John was a licensed mortician for 31 years, which was handed down to him by his father, and he operated a funeral home in Durango, Colorado for many years. Upon moving to Andrews in 1978, John worked as a mailman for the Andrews Independent School District. John was active in many things such as his love for fishing, his pleasure in manicuring yards and growing his vegetables and flowers. John enjoyed association with many people and over the years acquired some nicknames that he was fond of such as, "Tick Tac Jack and Cadillac Jack". He in return could come up with a few nicknames for others such as "Toyota Mary". John also showed a humorous side of himself as he told his fellow brothers and sisters in the Andrews Congregation to get his permission before leaving town; however he did not get our permission before he left. John was baptized on April 15, 1951 as a dedicated witness of Jehovah. He attended many Kingdom Halls which included Cortez and Norwood Colorado, Phoenix and Prescott, Arizona, and Dallas and Andrews,  Texas. One of his hobbies was taking pictures of different Kingdom Halls throughout his travels. John had a good outlook on life and a great sense of humor. He had a firm belief in the Bible and the hope of the resurrection. John was preceded in death by his mother when he was 6 years old; his father; and his stepmother Edna Husman.

He is survived by his wife: Joyce Ertel of Andrews; 2 sons: Lynn Ertel of Nucla, Colorado and Vaughn Ertel of Andrews; 3 daughters: Carol Dickson of Newton, Massachusetts, Jouida Olson of Prescott, Arizona, and Lana Moore of McKinney; 3 brothers: Walter Ertel and Richard Lindsey of Cortez, Colorado, and Donnie Ertel of Sunnyvale, California; 4 sisters: Virginia Mosher and Helen Ray of Cortez, Colorado, Betty Dillon of Mancus, Colorado, and his twin sister, Jane Field of Quincy,  Washington; 15 Grandchildren; and 16 Great Grandchildren.

ANTONIA R. ORTIZ
July 23, 2006

Antonia R. Ortiz, 72, of Andrews passed away Sunday July 23, 2006 at her home in Andrews.

Rosary services will be 7:00 PM Monday July 24, 2006 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews. Rev. Bernard Gully will officiate.
Burial will be in Andrews North Cemetery.

Antonia was born January 20, 1934 in Mulato, Mexico. She married Isidro Ortiz in 1955 in Mulato, Mexico. They moved to Andrews in 1982 from Mexico. She was a mother, homemaker, and she loved her family. She was always happy and cheerful even when she was ill. She is preceded in death by 3 children, her parents, and 2 brothers.

She is survived by: her husband Isidro Ortiz of Andrews; Five Sons - Rojelio, Roberto, Wilfido, Auden and Ervey Ortiz all of Andrews; Three Daughters - Faride Martinez, of Andrews; Martha Alvarado of Midland, and Imelda Perez of Andrews; One brother - Agapito Lopez of Presidio,  Texas; Three Sisters- Manuela Puentes of Kermit, Lidia Molinar of Brownfield and Elid Ramirez of Levelland,  Texas; 20 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren.

ROBERT LYNN PARRISH
July 17, 2006

Robert Lynn Parrish 53, of Snyder,  Oklahoma passed away Monday, July 17, 2006, at a nursing home in Snyder,  Oklahoma.

Graveside Services will be held 10:00 AM Friday July 21 at Andrews Old Cemetery. Rev. Ted Short will pastor of Grace Baptist Church, in Andrews, will officiate.

Robert was born January 22, 1953 in Hugo,  Oklahoma to Julia and William Parrish. He was preceded in death by his father William Parrish in 1973 and by his Mother Julia Gowin in 2001.

He is survived by: One Brother - Bill Parrish of Edmond,  Oklahoma and one Sister - Judy Pollock of Houston,  Texas.

ISMAEL VALENZUELA
July 16, 2006

Ismael "Baby Yoshi" Valenzuela, III, the One day old son of Ismael "Yoshi" and Stephanie Valenzuela of Andrews passed away Sunday July 16. 2006 at Odessa Regional Hospital.

Baby Ismael was born Saturday July 15, 2006 at Odessa Regional Hospital.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Barnes of Odessa will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews North Cemetery Babyland under the direction of McNet Funeral Home.

Survivors Include: Parents - Ismael (Yoshi) and Stephanie Valenzuela of Andrews; Grandparents - Ismael and Rosa Valenzuela of Andrews; Herman and Annette Montez of Andrews; and Great-Grandmother - Adela Snellenberger of Pecos.
