Nadine Brown Thorne
Nadine Brown Thorne of Waco died Oct. 5, 2004 at her daughter’s residence. She was 82.
Funeral services were held Friday at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey chapel with Dr. William M. Lynch officiating. Burial followed at Waco Memorial North.
Mrs. Thorne was born in Evant on Feb. 22, 1922, to Henry Milton and Eva Gertrude Marshall Brown. She attended schools in Coryell County and graduated from Gatesville High School with honors. She married Hollis Robert Thorne on June 1, 1940. She worked as a clerk for Montgomery Ward and Waco Hardware as a buyer. She joined and became an active member of the First Church of Nazarene, Waco in 1946, working in the nursery, teaching Sunday school, serving as missionary president and church board member.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Geraldine Brown Evans and Ouida Brown Green; and brothers, James Arelon Brown, Harold Milton Brown, Bobbie Lee Brown and Ray Van Brown.
Survivors include daughters, Gloria Hill of Woodway and Linda Stivener of Robinson; son, Ronnie Thorne of Robinson; sisters, Mildred Parrish of Evant and Polly Cummings-Guess of Waco; brothers, Kenneth Brown of Gatesville, Morris Brown of Hamilton and Billy Mac Brown of Aleman; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Nettie Cleone Holt
Nettie Cleone (Crow) Holt of Oglesby died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, in Humble at the age of 91.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor with Dr. John Hogan officiating. Interment followed in Valley Mills Cemetery.
Mrs. Holt was born June 14, 1913, at Osage, the daughter of James Johnathan and Ollie (Fleming) Crow and attended school at Osage and Gatesville. On Jan. 18, 1946, she married Mitchell Ethan Holt in Waco. He preceded her in death March 1, 1998.
For 42 years, she lived in Oglesby before moving to Belton in 1974. As a young woman, she was converted and baptized and was a former member of Keys Valley Baptist Church near Belton where she was a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. At the time of her death, she was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Nathan Holt of Dayton and Donald Gene Holt of Moody; one brother, Ellis Doyle Crow of Belton; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Casketbearers were Leo O. Bench, James Crow, Mack Grady, Jimmy McClure, John McClure and Jacky Watkins.

Charles Winford (Dub) Marshall
Charles Winford (Dub) Marshall, 93, of Gatesville, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at a local nursing facility.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2004, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Davidson Cemetery.
Mr. Marshall was born July 31, 1911, in Oglesby, Texas. He was the son of the late Charles Franklin Marshall and Mary Elizabeth Millsap Marshall. He married Della Mae Barnard on July 9, 1932. Dub lived in Coryell County all his life. He was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church. Mr. Marshall worked as a farmer, mechanic and as a manager of a propane company. He also was a car salesman and manager of a storage facility. He loved his family, friends, neighbors and life. He loved to laugh and was never too busy to lend a helping hand or tell a joke. Fishing was his favorite hobby. Music was always a part of the family life with his children as he played the French harp. In recent years, he was often heard playing “You Are My Sunshine” for patients in the nursing home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della; daughter, Ina Frances Marshall Tatum; and one grandson, Thomas E. Tatum.
Survivors include daughters, Joan Knapp of Gatesville, Louise Bredemeyer of McGregor, Freddie Gayle Williams and husband DeWayne of Mansfield and Glenda McCormick of Valley View; 12 grandchildren; three sisters; one brother, all of Gatesville; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mabel Foote
Mabel Foote, 94, of Turnersville, passed away on Nov. 6, 2004, in a Clifton nursing center.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Turnersville Cemetery.
Mabel was born on Sept. 9, 1910, in Pancake to J.R. Pancake and Sallie Roberts Pancake. She attended school in Pancake and Turnersville, and graduated in Gatesville. Mabel also attended Tarleton University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel “Mud” Foote; two sisters; and six brothers.
Mabel is survived by her daughter, Frances Cornelia Foote; son, Nathaniel “Sonny” Foote and wife Paula; grandchildren, Than Foote and wife Traci, Joe Foote and wife Crystal; and great-grandchildren, Hallie Foote, Wade Foote and Bracy Foote.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Turnersville Community Center or the Turnersville Cemetery Association.
Sally Mae Davis Melton
Sally Mae Davis Melton, 85, of Gatesville, died Nov. 20, 2004 at a Gatesville nursing home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Carlisle officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in Liberty Hill.
Mrs. Melton was born March 6, 1919, in Lufkin to the late Dee and Ida Bell Barker Incose. She grew up in Bertram and Liberty Hill. She married Jack Davis in 1934. She married W.E. Melton in 1959 and they resided in Gatesville. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church of Gatesville. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Davis and W.E. Melton; and a daughter, Betty Jean Davis.
Survivors include her daughters, Bernice Osteen of Portland, OR, Maydale (Susie) Melton of Lampasas, Minnie Hooper of California, Doris Conyers of Lockhart and Jeanett Melton of Gatesville; one son, John Davis of Gatesville; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Laura Newland
Laura Newland, age 85, longtime Irving resident, formerly of Gatesville, died November 26, 2004 at a Colleyville assisted living center.
Born April 11, 1919 in Wade, Oklahoma, she retired after more than twenty years as an A & P cashier. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. C. Newland; sisters, Blanche Kannady and Ester Rogers; and brother Oscar Leverton.
She is survived by two nephews, David Pachall and wife Carolyn of Grapevine, Weldon Bowen and wife Susan of Lindale; sister, Ruby Bowen of Grand Prairie; two sisters-in-law, Ellawayne Lewis of Dallas and Mona Ruth Newland of De Soto; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel of Irving. Burial was in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens of Irving.
Gloria Daniels
Gloria Daniels of Gatesville died Nov. 25, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Adams and the Rev. Harry Thrasher officiating. Burial followed at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple.
Mrs. Daniels was born Sept. 12, 1939 to Charlie and Lou Caldwell Bane. She grew up in the San Marcos area. She married Kenneth Daniels on March 9, 1957. She was employed at the National Bank for a number of years. She was active in her church, First Assembly of God, in Belton and served as mentor in the Gatesville Prison Ministry program. She enjoyed gospel music, fellowship with friends and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Bane; a daughter, Becky Daniels; and a brother, Archie Bane.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Daniels of Gatesville; a daughter, Beverly Keating of Rolla, MO; two sons, Jason Daniels of Austin and Wesley Daniels of Gatesville; two brothers, Roger and Larry Bane of Austin; and four grandchildren.
Pearl Davis
Pearl Davis, 100, of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at a local care center.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis was born on March 28, 1904, in Coryell County to Tom and Annie Quicksall. She was a lifetime member of Hay Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Davis, in 1975; her parents; three brothers; five sisters; her oldest son, Curtis Davis; and grandson, Curtis Davis Jr. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Graham and husband Vernon of McGregor; son, Clay J. Davis and wife Joan of Mother Neff; and daughter-in-law, Thelma Davis of Gatesville. “Ma-Ma” also leaves six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Ronnie Clemons
Ronnie Clemons, 57, of Hamilton, died Dec. 6, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with H.J. Billingsley officiating.
Mr. Clemons was born Feb. 6, 1947, at Hamilton, the son of the late Raymond Perry Clemons and Nelly Mae Bunnell Clemons. He graduated from Hamilton High School in 1965. He attended Sam Houston State University and graduated from Tarleton State University. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a scout master for 14 years. He was also a baseball coach, umpire and soccer coach for youth. He was a member of the Texas Indian Hobbest Association and the Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lee Clemons.
Survivors include four children, Raymond Scot Clemons of Houston, Christopher Wayne Clemons of Little Elm, ReGina Marcott and Christopher Red Elk, both of Waco; three sisters, Mary Jo Cox of Watauga, Ava Riley of Hamilton and Phyllis Billingsley of Temple and formerly of Gatesville; and 11 grandchildren.
J.L. Green
J.L. Green, of Moody, died Dec. 15, 2004 in Temple. He was 76.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Eagle Springs Cemetery with the Rev. John Gartman and the Rev. Edd Brentham officiating.
Mr. Green was born May 2, 1928, at the home of his grandparents, J.W. and Ila Hiser, in Mother Neff Park in Coryell County. He was the son of the late Luther Forest and Lora Lee (Hiser) Green. He attended school in Moody. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., from Nov. 19, 1952, until his honorable discharge on Nov. 20, 1954. He was a furniture constructor for Griggs Equipment in Belton. He was also a night watchman for C&H Die Cast in Temple and a patrolman for the City of Moody. On Dec. 20, 1998, he married Shirley French Brentham at Eagle Springs Baptist Church. An ordained minister, he moved from Belton to Moody in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Green; sons, John Forest Green and Jason Luther Green; daughters, Cheryl Ann Huff, Gwynn Nell Green and Sharon Ruth Aiken; stepson, Steve Brentham; stepdaughter, Tammi Mriwicki; sister, Doris Brown; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
