Anita W. Barnes, 80, of Clute, Texas, passed away at her home on March 25, 2004.
She was born on January 29, 1924, in Semmes, Alabama, to Robert and Rosita Waltman. She moved to the area in 1954.
She is survived by her son, Richard Dennis Barnes Sr. and wife, Linda, of Jones Creek; two grandchildren, Shelly Hendricks of Lake Jackson, Richard Dennis Barnes Jr. and wife, Kendra, of San Antonio; two stepgrandchildren, Carol Mize and husband, Brandon, of Lake Jackson, Teresa Roghair of South Lake; five great-grandchildren, Dawn Hendricks, Amy Hendricks, Colton Barnes, Carson Barnes, Kennedy Barnes, five stepgreat-grandchildren, Gabrielle Mize, Brooke Mize, Jake Roghair, Ryan Roghair, Brittany Brooks; two step- great-great-grandchildren, Izzabella and Khloie Brooks; two sisters, Helen Caldwell of Semmes, Alabama, Fern Cain of Semmes, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Una McCarn.
Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Father Mike Gemignani of St. Paul’s Episcopalian Church officiating.

JOHN W. PIRTLE
John W. Pirtle, 75, of Brazoria, Texas, went to be in his heavenly resting place Thursday, March 25, 2004, after an ordeal with cancer.
John was born June 20, 1928, in Sullivan, Indiana. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service in 1969 and moved to the Brazosport area to work for Dow Chemical, where he achieved retirement in 1989. He was a member of Brigance Road Baptist Church and an active member of Brazoria Masonic Lodge 327. Over the years, he was involved with local law enforcement as a police officer for the former city of Lake Barbara. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Texas, with Chaplain Kenneth Lott officiating.
Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Rollie Pirtle; mother, Naomi Pirtle; brothers, Darrell and Joe Pirtle; and sister, Mary Eaton.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Billie DeWitt Pirtle; son, Shane and wife, Linda, of Lake Jackson; son, Shaun and wife, Joy, of Brazoria; daughter, Sharon and husband, Frank Alvarez, of Brazoria; son, Shalden and fiancee, Kelly Gibson, of Brazoria; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Vera Rusk and husband, Gene, of West Columbia; brother, Allen and wife, Marceta, of Carlisle, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Barb Pirtle of Sullivan, Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews; and his best friend, Gene Case of Brazoria.

Shirley Tucker Powell, of Angleton, Texas, died on Friday, March 26, 2004, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson, Texas, at the age of 69.
Shirley was born to Charles Clifton and Lorena Jane Linder Tucker in Roanoke, Virginia, on April 22, 1934. She was an area resident since 1977.
Her father; husband, Earl Bryant Powell; and daughter, Jane Powell, precede her in death.
Surviving are her mother, Lorena Tucker of Rocky Mount, Virginia; son, Jonathan Powell and wife, Laura, of Lake Jackson; daughters, Susan Laver and husband, Jeffrey, of Lake Jackson, Lori Bagley and husband, Darrel, of Angleton, Bitsy Edge and husband, Danny, of Danbury; sister, Patricia Parazzoli and husband, Frank, of South Charleston, West Virginia; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Rachel Wilbanks, Tara DiNello, Daniel Edge, Caleb Seibel, Aaron Powell, Alan Powell, Adam Powell and Andrew Powell.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church with the Reverend Peter Ganz officiating.
The family will be receiving friends in the fellowship hall of Holy Comforter immediately following the memorial service.

ROBERT HENRY STANGE
As a bird, freed from its cage, soars toward the heavens, So too, on March 23, 2004, did the soul of Bob Stange fly home to God.
Robert Henry Stange passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was born in
St. Louis, Missouri on November 24, 1939, and was one of four sons born to Ernest Otto August and Dorothy Louise Emily Stange. He had been a resident of Lake Jackson since December 1999, and was employed by Benchmark Electronics in Angleton as a Supplier Quality Engineer. He was a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, where he sang with the Chancel Choir.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Paul Ernest Stange.
He is survived by his wife of five and a half years, Peggy Stange; a son, Robert Brian Stange of Hemet, California; two stepchildren, Kerry James Patrick and Kelly Elizabeth Schoenberg, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a precious granddaughter, Kaitlyn, also of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two brothers, Richard Armin Stange and his wife, Betty; and Ronald Theodore Stange and his wife, Nancy, both of St. Louis; sister-in-law, Jean Stange of Milpitis, California; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved Siberian Husky, Sheba.
Bob was a lover of music and was an accomplished vocalist, as well as having played the piano and the violin. In addition to church choir, he also was a member of the Gulf Coasters Barbershop Chorus and the Brazosport College Civic Chorus.
During his life, Bob was employed as a radio operator, technician, design engineer and manager. In the early years of his life he enjoyed ham radio, cars, boating and fishing, gun-smithing, hunting, dogs, sports, computers and finance.
A memorial service is being held in his honor on Sunday, April 4, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapelwood United Methodist church on Willow Drive in Lake Jackson, with Dr. Jim Reiter officiating.
Memorials may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, or to Chapelwood United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Margaret Marie Thomas, 91, of Angleton, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Palms Funeral Home with the Rev. Carroll Grigsby officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Wathall, Rodney Thomas, Mike Thomas Jr., Benjamin Hudson III, Brandon Griffin and Micah Fleshman.
Mrs. Thomas was born on January 9, 1913, in Kerrville, Texas, to Robert and Maude Burns Godwin. She was an area resident for 58 years and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Clute. Mrs. Thomas passed away on Friday, March 26, 2004, at Cypress Woods Care Center, surrounded by her family.
Preceding her are her husband, R.C. “Sonny” Thomas, and grandson, Benny Hudson II.

LILLIAN "ROSE" LINDSAY
Memorial Service for Lillian “Rose” Lindsay, age 66, of West Columbia, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 3, 2004, at 1st Missionary Baptist Church, 146 S. 18th Street with the Reverend Richardson Jr., officiating.
She died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya, Africa.
Rose Lindsay was born to Dorothy Gillis as the first of six beautiful children on August 11, 1937. Rose attended Charlie Brown High School and Prairie View College, and soon after, married and raised two children. After the end of her 27 year marriage, Rose moved to Africa to begin her career as an exporter of precious stones. Rose passed away in Africa of cancer, pursuing her hopes and dreams as a successful businesswoman.
Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Gillis; son, Michael Lindsay; daughter, Gloria Lindsay; brother, Thurman; sisters: Clotea, Marie, Shelly; granddaughter, Carolyn Rose Lindsay.

ELLIS STANLEY ALLEN
Ellis Stanley Allen passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004, at the age of 77.
He was born in Elida, New Mexico, on Christmas Day, 1926 to the late Ellis Oscar and Hattie Mae Ewing Allen. Mr. Allen was a property tax consultant, a founding member of T.A.P.T.P. and a member of the American Legion.
He is preceded in death by one son, Michael, and brother-in law, Ted Kay.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred (Donihoo) Allen; daughters, Kathryn Wells, Linda Butterfield and husband, Johnny, Susan Averre and husband, Don; sons, James Ellis, Chris Webber; five grandchildren; sisters, Murl Kay, Dororthy Bertram and husband, Frederick; Ann Foster and husband, David; as well as many other friends and relatives.
Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Pat H. Foley & Co.

Myron J. “Jeff” Galyean Sr.
Myron J. “Jeff” Galyean Sr., of Sweeny, Texas, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Lake Jackson, Texas. He was 93.
Galyean was born in Corinth, Mississippi, on Friday, November 4, 1910. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sweeny.
He is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Bud” and Peggy Galyean of Seabrook; grandchildren Rick and Traci Galyean, of Seabrook, Jeffrey and Christy Galyean, of League City, Cynthia Collins of Monroe, Ga. and Ronald Galyean of Tomball; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Mickey of Sweeny, Delphia and Dick Jackson of Lake Jackson, Bonnie Brumbelow of Lake Jackson, Edith Beaugh of Lake Jackson and Stella Kubecka.
He was preceded in death by wife, Altha L. Galyean, son Mike Galyean, brother John Galyean and sisters Ruth Hobbins and Maryland Richardson.
Graveside services will be at Sweeny Cemetery on Monday, March 29, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jerl Watkins officiating. Visitation will be at Baker Funeral Home on Sunday, March 28, 2004, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in West Columbia.
Burial will be at Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, Texas.
Pallbearers are Bob Coburn, Charlie Crouch, Gene Hightower, Butch Miller, Craig Peterson and Charlie Stevenson.
