EVELYN MORRISON WILLIAMS
Evelyn Morrison Williams was born November 7, 1928, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She passed away on January 9, 2004.
She graduated from Searcy High School in 1946; Arkansas State Teacher’s College, B.A. and University of Arkansas, Masters in Education. She taught school in Brazosport schools all of her career, becoming principal of Oren M. Roberts Elementary School when it opened. She served as Principal of O.M. Roberts Elementary until her retirement in 1984.
She is survived by her sister, Elsie Hotalen of Houston; brother-in-law, C.H. Hotalen; sisters-in-law, Verna Lee Morrison, Grace Ann Cates and husband, Stuart; nephews, Terry Morrison, Larry Morrison, Clarence Howard Hotalen III, “Trey”; and nieces, Patricia Anne Hotalen “Patti” and Emily Morrison.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Clifford Williams; mother, Lois Morrison; father, Henry Lee Morrison; and brother, Henry Morrison.
She moved back to Searcy, Arkansas, after retiring and enjoyed life with her friends and animals.
Friends Katherine Meadows, Catherine Raley, and Helen Daniels will miss her bright pleasantness. Evelyn is greatly loved by her family and friends and was a great blessing to us.

CONNIE K. OPPERUD
Funeral services for Connie K. Opperud, 61, of Angleton, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2004, at Palms Funeral Home.

Connie passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2004, in a Houston hospital.
Connie was born in Bay City on July 20, 1942, to Everett and Jessie Branstetter. She was an Angleton resident for 42 years and worked at Cypress Woods Care Center for over 20 years. Connie enjoyed going to crafts shows and antique shows. She also enjoyed nature and wildlife and going camping. Connie was known to her grandkids, which she dearly loved, as “MaMo”.
Her father and granddaughter, Ariel Smith, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her mother, Jessie Branstetter of Angleton; her husband of 42 years, Richard Opperud; sons, Rick Opperud of Alvin, Brandy Charles Opperud and wife, Olga, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Robbyn Smith and husband, Larry, of Angleton; grandchildren, Joshua Opperud, Amber Opperud, Meghan Smith, Gabrielle Smith, Emily Smith, Shelbi Smith, Jesse Opperud, Jordan Opperud, Dana Mendoza, Derrick Mendoza, Robbie Mendoza and Brandon Mendoza; and her family at Cypress Woods Care Center.

CHARLES LESLIE ELLIS
Charles Leslie Ellis, 53, of Bryan, Texas, died on Thursday, January 15, 2004, in Gause, Texas, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born September 21, 1950.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2004, at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, West Columbia, Texas, with a Mass of resurrection for Charles L. Ellis being celebrated by Father Lee Flores.
Survivors include two nieces, Cynthia Ellis Rosen and Vanessa N. Ellis, both of San Antonio; one brother, William Gary Ellis of West Columbia; three cousins, Charles Lee Borskey of Austin, James Howell Cobb of West Columbia and Gladys T. Guercia of New Jersey.

Jose Jauregui, 61, was born April 6, 1942, in Brownsville, Texas, and passed away on January 17, 2004, in Lake Jackson, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Aurora Jauregui; brothers, Juan Jr. and Joel Jauregui.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Reyna Alcira Jauregui; sons, David Oscar, Jesse and Michael Jauregui sisters, Esther Alicia Zamora, Lydia Jauregui, and Aurora Vasquez; brothers, Jonatan and Jeremeias Jauregui; grandchildren, Adrian Rene, Hannah Lee, Jesse Santana, Alannis and Javion Guston Jauregui; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Truman “Danny” Mitchell, 71, of Mexia, Texas, died Monday, January 19, 2004, at Temple VA Hospital.

Interment will follow at Coolidge Cemetery.
He was born May 16, 1932, in Thornton, Texas.

Funeral services for Elvis Dean Baty, 58, of Brazoria, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Old Ocean, Texas, with Ron Hogan officiating.
Burial will follow at Sweeny Cemetery in Sweeny, Texas.

He was born Friday, March 16, 1945, in Freeport, Texas, and died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, in Houston, Texas.
He was past president of the Harris Reservoir Fishing Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church of Old Ocean, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Grace E. Baty of Brazoria; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Dean and Windy Baty of Brazoria and Christopher E. and Marla Baty of Sweeny; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.C. and Nettie Baty; and one sister.

KAY HIGHTOWER LEE
Charlotte Kay Hightower Lee was born on July 7, 1948, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to W. Ward Hightower and Mary Jo Reasoner Hightower and went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 20, 2004, in Angleton, Texas, at the age of 55, having fought a 33-year courageous battle with cancer and related health problems.
Although Kay’s life was made difficult by her illness, she never lost her smile and the will to live life with a positive attitude. Even in the most difficult times, she always had a smile on her face and was an inspiration to those around her. She loved to paint and spend time with family and friends. She especially loved to be with her brothers, who she loved deeply. She loved the Lord and enjoyed the times when she was able to attend church. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music, which was playing at her bedside when she left this world, surrounded by her family.
Kay is survived by her brothers, Gene Hightower and wife, Linda, and Darrell Hightower, all of West Columbia; aunts, Ruth Hess and husband, Rick, of Millsap, Lois Wheeler of Grandview, Geneva Eddleman of Gruver and Anna Lou Enteman of Landcaster, California; uncles, Lee Shockler and wife, Wretha, of Haltom City and Royce Hightower and wife, Donna, of Abilene; nephew, Tommy Hightower and wife, Kellie, of West Columbia; niece, Heather Bell and husband, Jason, of West Columbia; great-nephews, Jacob Ward Hightower and Kevin Hartney of West Columbia; sister-in-law, Sena Yates of West Columbia; and numerous cousins other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ward and Jo Hightower; and nephew, Timothy Mitchell “Tim” Hightower.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22, 2004, at the First Baptist Church, 226 S. Broad Street in West Columbia, Texas, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in West Columbia at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dave Barclay officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Hightower, Jason Bell, Wes Eddleman, Randy Shockler, Kevin Hartney, Jerry Anderson and Frank Reid.

CARLA DEBORAH ANTUNA WIGINTON NAIL
Carla Deborah Antuna Wiginton Nail, 30, of Anadarko, Oklahoma, entered into rest Monday, January 19, 2004, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Carla was born February 3, 1973, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Robert and Robin (Geiogamah) Antuna. She attended school in the Brazosport area, which included Lake Jackson and Freeport, Texas. Carla had a zest for life and loved being with friends and family. She enjoyed cooking and was an excellent cook and especially liked cooking for her Grandpa Claude. These two shared the same birthday, February 3, and they had special birthday celebrations throughout the years. Her son, Robert Lee, was the light of her life along with her nephew, Chris, and niece, Little Robin. She also became the favorite cousin of Maisy, Mario and Jose Diaz and would never tell them no. They loved her dearly. She also developed a close relationship with her Auntie Lisa and Auntie Renee. The following is a quote from her son:
“She was my mom for 12 short years. God gives you as much as you can handle; he must think I’m one tough kid. People said that she cared about me her son more than anything at all. She was a very pretty woman. She only lived to be 30 years old. But we loved her, we still love her.”
