Christeen Opal Allen, 90, formerly of Freeport,  Texas, passed away Saturday while living at Healthsouth Rehab Hospital in Ruston, La. Funeral services are pending with Freeport-Lakewood Funeral Homes.

E.L. Otto

E.L. Otto, 76, of Clute, died on February 1, 2003 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. Services are pending with Stroud Funeral Home.

CHRISTEEN OPAL ALLEN

Christeen Opal Allen, 90, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, passed away February 1, 2003, at the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Ruston, LA. She was born in Oleatha, TX, to Etta and Brack Arthur Alston on May 28, 1912. Prior to her death, she was a resident of the Russ House in Ruston.

Mrs. Allen was a resident of Freeport from 1945 until May of 2002. She was an active and faithful member of Freeport First Baptist, serving that church as a teacher of first grade children for 52 years. She was also church secretary for over 16 years.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Cecil Collins Allen. She is survived by her son Dr. Art Allen and wife Gayle of Brownwood, TX; granddaughters Myka Allen of Rockwall, TX and Marla Ray, husband Tripp and great grandson  Jackson of Greenville, TX; daughter Mary Gibbs and husband Mike of Ruston, LA; granddaughters Courtney Gibbs-Swafford, husband Rob and great grandson Calvin of Richmond, MO, Christen Gibbs of Pearland, TX and Cara Timmons, husband Clay and great grandson Cole of Lubbock, TX; sister Mary Thompson of Groesbeck, TX; brothers Willie B. Alston and Walter Alston of Groesbeck, TX.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Freeport, with the Rev. H.O. “Hobby” Bilderback and the Rev. Paul E. Ryan officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Funeral Home.

WAYNE R. GAGE

Services for Wayne R. Gage, 66, of Lake Jackson, are pending with Palms Funeral Home. He passed away Sunday, February 2, 2003.

E.L. OTTO

E.L. Otto, 76, of Clute went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 1, 2003.

Mr. Otto was a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. He was retired from DOW as an operator after 31 years and was a greeter at Wal-Mart for several years. He was an active member, deacon, Sunday school teacher and custodian of Temple Baptist Church. Most of all, Otto will be remembered as a FRIEND.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Clute, with Pastor David  Taylor officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church. Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Royal Peachie Otto of 58 years of Clute, one daughter Vickie Campbell and husband Kenneth of Clute, two sons, E.L. “Lucky” Otto and wife Helen, of Lake  Jackson and Dale Wayne Otto and wife, Anna of Point,  Texas, five grandchildren: Tamatha Reeves, Carey Lankford, Jeremy, Christopher and Nathan Otto, and three great-grandchildren: Joshua Gilstrap, Gunnar Reeves and Emily Otto.

Pallbearers will be: Jeremy Otto, Christopher Otto, Nathan Otto, Carey Lankford, Todd Reeves and Jason Hearn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the deacons of Temple Baptist Church and members of Otto’s Sunday School Class.

ALBERT DEAN SHAW

Albert Dean Shaw, loving husband, father, and grandfather, age 65 of Alvin,  Texas passed away Sunday, February 2, 2003 at M.D. Anderson Hospital, Houston,  Texas. Dean was born on February 9, 1937 in Goldwaite,  Texas and was a resident of Alvin for 40 years.

He was an A.N. Specialist and a member of the Heights Baptist Church and served as an usher. Dean coached for Alvin Pee Wee Football and Alvin Little League. He was a member of the America Quarter Horse Association, Solutia Retirement Club and a cattle rancher for 20 years.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, DeAlbert & Jackie Shaw; and sister, Judith Lynn Shaw.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Shaw of Alvin; daughters & sons-in-law, Sophie Lea Wimberley of Cleveland, Ohio, Janet & Phillip Pitts of Alvin and Judith & Curtis Pitts of Friendswood; son, Alan Dean Shaw of Houston; brothers & sisters-in-law, Kenneth W. & Betty Sue Shaw of West Columbia and Randel & Carolyn Shaw of West Columbia; grandchildren, Jordan Pitts, Jacob Pitts, Bailey Pitts, Cole Pitts and Madeline Pitts; numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation hours will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at the Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Charles Easley officiating.

Interment will follow in the Confederate Cemetery, Alvin,  Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston,  Texas 77030.

MABEL CHERRY WARD

Mabel Cherry Ward, born May 3, 1922 in Lufkin,  Texas, passed away February 2, 2003 in Clute,  Texas.

She is survived by sons, Warren W. Ward, Jr. of Buera Vista, Virginia, Clifford R. Ward of Dallas/Lake Palestine, Ervin H. Ward of Clute, David J. Ward of Clute; sister, Monette Snyder of Jasper; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

She graduated from Redland high school in 1938 and a 1942 graduate from Stephen F. Austin then earning her masters from South East  Oklahoma State. She retired as a teacher after 37 years of service.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

A celebration of Mabel’s life will begin at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Murray officiating.

Graveside service and interment will be held at Walker Cemetery in Redland,  Texas at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.

LAWRENCE D. GILES

Funeral services for Lawrence D. Giles, 55, of Houston will be Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, CR 32, Anchor,  Texas with the Rev. D.A. Goston, Sr. officiating.

Burial will be in Kelly Lake Cemetery in Anchor,  Texas.

He died January 29, 2003 at the V.A. Hospital in Houston.

He had served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Giles of Houston; his mother, Ruby Thomas of Houston; two sons, Peter Giles and Joshua Giles of Houston; one stepson, Glen Curry of Houston; two daughters, Sheila Giles, Tiffany Giles of Houston; three brothers, Donald Giles, Ray Giles, Edward Giles all of Houston; five sisters, Rosie Darby, Elvira Willis, Sharon Webb (Freddie), Debra Giles all of Houston, Erma Freeman of  Louisiana; mother-in-law, Sadalia Ellis of Angleton; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Glen Curry, David Ellis, Joshua Giles, Rodney Samuel, Peter Giles and Kerry Bihms.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Giles, Edward Giles, Moses Ellis, Wallace Ellis, Robert Domain, James Ellis, Willie Ellis, the Rev. Raymond Blount, Charles Mott and Leon Smith.

A wake will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2003 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at New Revelation Missionary Baptist Church.

Arrangements are by Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria.

EUGENE TENNANT THOMAS

Eugene Tennant Thomas, 77, of Clute,  Texas went to meet the Lord Sunday, February 2, 2003.

He was born June 10, 1925 in Cuero,  Texas. Gene was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Clute,  Texas.

He is survived by one daughter, Lois Thomas of Houston; two granddaughters, Kelli Chapman and husband, Stan, Kaynell Kirk; two great-granddaughters, Haeli and Sarah Chapman; brother-in-law, E.J. Lanier and wife, Marie of Clute; niece, Sylvia Rhodes; great niece, Kennea Shields and husband, Mike; two great-great-nieces, Jessica and Cassidy Shields; one great-great-nephew, Corey Shields.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Thomas in 1998.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at the Lakewood Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the Lakewood Chapel with the Rev. Mark Cox officiating.

Private graveside services will be held in Cuero,  Texas.

Arrangements by Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

RAMONA P. RANGEL

Romana P. Rangel, 72, of Bay City died February 2, 2003, at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. She was born February 28, 1930 in Bay City to the late Jesus and Petra Vega Perez.

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a life long resident of Bay City.

Survivors include: husband, Louis Rangel of Bay City; daughter, Theresa Rangel of Bay City; sons and daughters-in-law, Louis J. & Delphina Rangel of Lake Jackson, Roberto W. & Irene Rangel and David Rangel all of Bay City; sister, Mary Soria of Angleton; brothers, Frank and Florenco Perez both of Angleton; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Julio and Antonio Perez.

Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at  Taylor Bros. Funeral Home and the Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerry Cernoch officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

ANNE BOYD

Anne Boyd of Lakehills,  Texas, formerly of Clute, died February 1, 2003 in San Antonio after a brief illness.

She is survived by her father, Jack Slater; brothers, Brad Slater and Russ Slater; daughter, Rebecca DuBose and her husband, Clifton DuBose; son, Tom Boyd and his wife, Renee Boyd; grandchildren, Sarah Ross, Cayla DuBose, Lauren DuBose, James Earl Boyd, Elizabeth Tipton, Jacob Boyd and Johnathan Boyd; and former spouse Danny Boyd.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Gail Slater.

EDDIE D. FULTON

Mr. Eddie D. Fulton passed away January 31, 2003 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 6, 2003 at Overcoming Faith Ministries Oakland Community, Freeport,  Texas with Apostle C.L. Amboree officiating. Sis. Cynthia Daniels, Pastor.

Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

KATHERINE LORAINE DURR

Katherine Loraine Durr went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 26, 2003 at the age of 58. She was born February 19, 1944 in Portales, New Mexico to Pleasant Lewis and Lena  White. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pleasant and Lena Lewis; her sister, Judy; her brother, Burton and her youngest daughter, Cynthia.

Survivors include her sister, Gerry Adams and her husband, Wayne of Willis,  Texas; her brother, Larry Lewis and his wife Shirley of Bay City; her son, Greg Coleman and his wife, Donna and their children, Luke and Sally of Sterling, Virginia; her daughter, Bev Phillips and her husband, Hayden of San Antonio; her son, Brad Coleman and his wife, Kendra and their daughter, Malorie of McKinney; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service for Kathy will be held on February 15, 2003 at 12:30 p.m. at Wayside Chapel, 1705 NW Loop 410, in Building 300 (behind the sanctuary).

A reception will be held immediately afterward.
