CARROLL EDWARD CALDWELL

Carroll Edward Caldwell, 70, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great friend, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on the twenty-first day of March, 2003.

Carroll was born on January 4, 1933 in Austin,  Texas. After graduating from Austin High School he served in the United States Army, and then graduated with a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Southwest  Texas State University before embarking on a 35-year career with the Dow Chemical Company. Carroll loved fishing, hunting, the beach, rock music, motorcycles, and was a dedicated blood donor.

Carroll is survived by his beloved wife, Bettie Christine (Toni) Caldwell, his daughters, Elaine French, and husband Steve of Lake Jackson,  Texas, Elizabeth Walzel and husband Mike, also of Lake Jackson, sons Tom Caldwell and wife Anna of Springfield, Virginia, and Scott Bush and wife Zola of Louisville, Colorado. He was a devoted grandfather to David, Daniel, Dylan, Katie, Megan, Tommy, Steven and Jason. Many dear cousins and friends also survive him. His father, Tom Ed Caldwell, his mother, Annie  Johnson Caldwell, and his brother, Conway Eugene Caldwell, preceded him in death.

Carroll will be laid to rest in Creedmoor Community Cemetery, in Creedmoor,  Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2003. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2003 from 2-5 p.m. You may call any family member for information.

Pallbearers will be Tom Caldwell, David Johnson, Danny Smith, Bryan Smith, Mark Kasper, and John Kasper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Helping Hearts and Hands Hospice, 418 Plantation Dr., Lake Jackson, TX, or Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 300 Willow Dr., Lake Jackson, TX 77566. A blood donation in Carroll’s memory would also be appreciated.

Jack Denton Wilson, 93, of Troup, TX passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending with Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Lucille Fourrier, 70, of Lake Jackson, TX passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003 at her residence. Funeral services are pending with Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

THOMAS EUGENE GASSEN

Thomas Eugene Gassen, of Richwood,  Texas, was the third child born to Bart and Eva Gassen, on August 20, 1956, in Bay City,  Texas. He left his family and friends to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 22, 2003. Tommy was a true servant of God and showed his love for The Lord each and every day of his life. Heaven is welcoming him with open arms.

Tommy was a graduate of Bay City High School and for a number of years, helped with the family farming operation. For the past 22 years, he was employed as an operator and most recently as the LDAR Coordinator for Chevron Phillips in Sweeny. He owned Gassen Dozer Works and created works of art from raw land for many residents of Brazoria and Matagorda County. He was very devoted to his family and friends, enjoyed all aspects of life and never let grass grow under his feet. He was always the first to volunteer for whatever needed to be done, and with his take charge attitude, always got the job done. He was very dedicated to his work at New Beginnings Community Church and the Cradle of  Texas Emmaus Community. His beautiful voice blessed everyone who heard him sing his songs of praised to the The Lord. His death left a void in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bart Gassen; maternal grandparents, George & Gladys Jones; paternal grandparents, Theodore & Frances Gassen; and one stepbrother, Randy Hancock.

Tommy leaves behind a wife of 12 years, Linda Gassen of Richwood; one daughter, Leslie Gassen of Van Vleck; his mother Eva and stepfather, Wallace Hancock of Bay City; a sister, Nancy Klaiber and husband Edwin of Sweeny; brother Mike Gassen and his wife Linda of Richwood; brother, Larry Gassen and wife Regina of Resaca, Georgia; one granddaughter, Destany Zuniga of Van Vleck; two stepsons, Jeff Patterson and wife Susie of Richwood and Scott Patterson and wife Theresa of Lake Jackson; step-grandchildren, Blake, Ashleigh, Zachary, Tori, Kristen and Abigail Patterson; a stepsister, Mary Merritt and husband Lester of Wichita Falls; and several aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Those wishing to pay their last respects to Tommy and visit the family, may do so from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson,  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at New Beginnings Church Community Church.

Burial following the service, will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Van Vleck,  Texas.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Michael Gassen, Jr., Tony Klaiber, Larry Gassen, Jr., step-grandson, Blake Patterson, brother-in-law, Don Reid and a life-long friend, Randy Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Gassen, Sr., Larry Gassen, Sr., Edwin Klaiber, Wallace Hancock, Jeff Patterson, Scott Patterson, Joe Rieger, Randy Rieger and Clifford Smith.

LUCILLE FOURRIER

Lucille Fourrier, 70, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Leo Wleczyk officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Lucille was a lifetime area resident. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Brazosport Art League and the Brazosport Symphony Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Lionel Fourrier of Lake Jackson; four children, Holly Casey of Angleton, Bubba Hickman & wife Dianna of Clute, Matt Hickman & wife Terry of Lake  Jackson and Lana Hickman of Houston; four stepchildren, Fabienne Huse of Pasadena, Dr. Jody Fourrier & wife Denille of Waller, Mike Fourrier of Lake  Jackson and Jeff Fourrier of Lake Jackson; five grandchildren, Brandy Cloud, Doyle Hickman, Dustin Hickman, Cody Hickman and Brandi Copeland; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Centeno, Magen Centeno and Zack Centeno; two sisters, Betty Warren of Douglas and Billie Dietz of Porter.

Pallbearers will be Jody Fourrier, Jeff Fourrier, Mike Fourrier, Matt Hickman, Bubba Hickman and Doyle Hickman.

The family requests donations be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church Building Fund.

SOPHIE DICEY MAE "MAMA SOPHIE" LEWIS

Funeral services for Sophie Dicey Mae “Mama Sophie” Lewis, 89, of Cedar Lane,  Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane,  Texas, with Rev. Murray Griggs officiating.

Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane,  Texas.

She died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Houston,  Texas.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m., with a Wake Service from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the Dixon Funeral Home Chapel in Brazoria,  Texas.

She is survived by three sons, Sam Lewis (Judy), Henry Boone (Roxie), all of Houston, and Mack Henry Lewis, Jr. (Gloria) of Cedar Lane; three daughters, Tommie Mae Bell of Cedar Lane, Julia Lewis of Brazoria and Sophie E. Lewis of Fort Myers, Florida; one brother, Henry Woodard, Sr. of Brazoria; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Donnell Lewis, Gary Woodard, Jerome Lewis, Raymond Bell, Jr., Floyd Lewis, Eichard Helms, Jr., Israel Lewis, Jr. and Johnnie Higgins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Lewis, Henry Woodard, Sr., Mack Lewis, Jr., Perry Higgins, Sr., Henry Boone and Raymond Bell, Sr.

She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

MRS. JACK DENTON WILSON

Mrs. Jack Denton Wilson passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003.

She was born December 20, 1909 in Troup,  Texas, to Clay and Mentie Denton. Jack enjoyed many pleasant memories of growing up in Troup in East  Texas. After graduating from high school, she attended  Texas Women’s University and North  Texas State University. She taught school in Omen, Salem and Troup schools.

She met her husband, Jasper L. “Bo” Wilson, when she boarded with his family when teaching school in Omen,  Texas. Jack and her husband moved to Houston,  Texas in 1944, then to Lake  Jackson in 1949. She was a life time member of the Methodist Church. She organized the first Lake  Jackson Garden Club and helped organize the Brazosport Hospital Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jasper L. “Bo” Wilson; her parents, Clay and Mentie Denton; and two sisters, Florine Davis and Fletabel Briggs.

She is survived by her brother, Joe A. Denton and his wife Bee of Lake Jackson; three sisters, Margaret De Witt, Helen Donoghue and Vaughan and her husband Eldon, all of Dallas; six nieces and nephews, Dr. J. Denton De Witt of Ruidosa, New Mexico, Dinah Gaspard of Dallas, Mike

Denton of Brazoria, Timothy Vaughan of Dallas and Julie Vaughan of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson, with a reception afterwards at the church. Pastor Charles Geller will be officiating.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Cottle Funeral Home in Troup,  Texas.

Graveside rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Bradford Cemetery with retired Bishop Joe A. Wilson of Georgetown, officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lake Jackson,  Texas, or a charity of your choice.

ROBERT LELAND STUBBS

Robert Leland Stubbs, of Liverpool,  Texas, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Oak Park Funeral Home in Angleton,  Texas.

Interment will be in the Liverpool Cemetery in Liverpool,  Texas.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Oak Park Funeral Home.

Zachary Wyn Herrington, 16, of Angleton,  Texas, formerly of Liverpool,  Texas, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Memorial Hermann Children’s Hospital in Houston,  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2003, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton,  Texas, with Bro. Troy Monceaux officiating.

Burial will follow in Liverpool Cemetery in Liverpool,  Texas.

Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton,  Texas.

Zachary was a member of Brazosport United Pentecostal Church.

His grandfather, Rev. Arthur Herrington, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his father, Robert Herrington of Newton; mother, Sharon Herrington of Angleton; maternal grandparents, Ed & Phyllis Beall of Liverpool; paternal grandmother, Hazel Herrington of Newton; one brother, Christopher Wade Herrington of Spring; one sister, Rachel Danielle Herrington of Angleton; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
