Oce W. (Barney) Lovejoy
Oce W. (Barney) Lovejoy, 79, of Temple and formerly of Gatesville, died Nov. 14, 2002 in a Temple hospital.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Restland Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Dominy officiating.
Mr. Lovejoy was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Gatesville to the late Fitzhugh Ayleen Woolard Lovejoy. He was reared in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Maxine Beard of Gatesville.
Tina Karasek Enochs
Tina Karasek Enochs of Evant died Nov. 22, 2002 at the age of 39.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Gatesville Funeral Home. Burial was in the Pottsville Cemetery.
Ms. Enochs was born Nov. 6, 1963, in Hamilton to Leonard and Margie Kinser Karasek. She grew up in Granbury, graduating from Granbury High School in 1982. She resided in Fort Worth after high school, working in property management, before moving to Evant in 1998. She was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Evant.
Survivors include a son, Chris Enochs; parents, Leonard and Margie Karasek of Evant; sister, Catherine Harrison of Glen Rose; and grandparents, Willie and Marcella Karasek of East Bernard and Clydie Kinser of Gatesville.
The family requests memorials be made to the Chris Enochs Scholarship Fund at the National Bank of Gatesville.
James B. Clemons
Mr. James B. Clemons, age 71, of Gatesville, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at a local hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 21, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Deral McWhorter and Royce Rhoades officiating. Burial was in the Gatesville City Cemetery.
Mr. Clemons was born on May 29, 1931, in Gatesville, Texas, to the late Clifford and Lois Walker Clemons. He grew up in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School in 1949. He married Patty Baize on December 22, 1951. They resided in Gatesville most of their married life. He worked at The Gatesville Messenger for several years, later becoming part owner. He and his wife then owned and operated Gatesville Printing and Office Supply for 22 years, retiring in 1997. They then moved to the Coryell City area where he enjoyed farming and ranching. He was a member and former elder of the Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. He was a charter member of the Gatesville R.V. Club.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Clemons of Gatesville; daughters, Connie Clemons of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Cindy Hothan and husband Don of Abilene; sister, Inez Gesford of Cleburne; brother, Billy Jack Clemons of Rusk; grandchildren, Brandon Ayers, and Amanda and Andy Hothan; great-grandchildren, Sean and Talon Ayers.
Memorials may be made to the Cedar Ridge Church of Christ or Vista Care Hospice.
Doris Whiteland
Doris Whiteland of Gatesville died Nov. 15, 2002 in a Gatesville hospital. She was 76.
A memorial service was held Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville.
Mrs. Whiteland was born Oct. 20, 1926, in West Kirby, Chesire, England, to the late Herbert and Emma Sutton Thomas. She was reared in England and was a teletype operator in the Women’s Royal English Navy. She married Norm Whiteland on March 27, 1948. After their marriage, they resided in Canada until 1957 when they moved to Fort Worth. They moved to Gatesville in 1990.
Survivors include her husband, Norm Whiteland of Gatesville; two daughters, Cherie Spurlock of Colorado Springs, CO, and Denise Lillie of Waxahachie; a son, Mike Whiteland of Tyler; a sister, Joan Johnston of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Don Roscoe Massingill
Don Roscoe Massingill, 65, of Gail and formerly of Gatesville, died Nov. 16, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Monday at Gail Cemetery with Pastor Dan Crawford officiating. Burial was in the Gail Cemetery.
Mr. Massingill was born Oct. 9, 1938, in Tarzan. He married Velma VanDyke on Aug. 13, 1956, in Colorado City. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the First Baptist Church in Gatesville. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry Dale Massingill in 1996; and two brothers, Doyle and Howard Massingill.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Massingill of Gail; two sons, Karl Massingill of Brownfield and Roscoe Massingill of Fluvanna; four daughters, Anita Turnbo, Jeanetta Claxton, Donna Kubena and Barbara Greer, all of Snyder; two sisters, Edna Ruth Thurman of Alpine and Tina Turner of Austin; three brothers, Kenneth Massingill of San Angelo, Travis Massingill of Colorado City and Jay Massingill of Round Rock; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

George Farries Willingham Sr.
George Farries Willingham Sr., 60, of Holland, died Nov. 18, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Goodnight Funeral Home Chapel in Bartlett with the Rev. Steven Nancy officiating. Burial with miliary honors and Masonic rites were in Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas Oak Cliff.
Mr. Willingham was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Sacramento, CA, the son of the late Minnie Mae (Kelley) and William Niles Willingham. He had been a resident of Athens before moving to Holland three years ago. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holland, Masonic Lodge 241 in Warrington, FL, and the Order of Eastern Star 177 in Athens. He retired from the U.S. Navy with 30 years of service. He was also retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and was employed with the Mobilization and Training Equipment Site (MATES) security as a private investigator at the time of his death. On Dec. 27, 1981, he married Kassa Maddox. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Kassa Willingham of Holland; son, George Farries Willingham Jr. of Arlington; daughter, Ramona Romero of Gatesville; sister, Cora Jane Reichert of Wisconsin Dells, WI; and five grandchildren.
Robert "Bob" Sorensen
Robert "Bob" Sorensen of Gatesville died Dec. 8, 2002 in a local hospital. He was 75.
Masonic services were held Thursday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. Sorensen was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the son of the late Henry and Edith Tomlinson Sorensen. He was raised and attended school in Indianapolis, IN. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Butler University in Indianapolis. He moved to California where he worked for North American Aviation, which later became Rockwell Aviation. While employed there, he worked on the B-1 and B-70 bombers and also the Space Shuttle. He retired in 1992 after 40 years of service. On July 12, 1964, he married Joanne Robinson and they made their home in California before moving to Gatesville in 1994. He was a past president of the Rotary Club, the Management Club and the Toastmaster Club. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge where he served as worshipful master from 1998-1999. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Gatesville.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Sorensen of Gatesville; daughter, Cyrstal Thill of Gatesville; son, Richard Sorensen of Warsaw, MO; brother, Neal Sorensen of Indianapolis, IN; and two grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be given to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Teodoro Rodriguez
Teodoro Rodriguez, 71, of Gatesville, died Dec. 8, 2002 in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Rodriguez was born March 14, 1931, in Coamo, Puerto Rico, to the late Alejandro and Margarita Santiago Rodriguez. He married Lydia Gonzales on Dec. 8, 1958, and they moved to Gatesville in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Rodriguez of Gatesville; daughters, Margarita Martinez of Paducah and Angie Murdoch of Gatesville; sons, David Rodriguez of Gatesville, Robert Rodriguez of DeBerry, FL, and Alex Rodriguez of Midland; one brother; four sisters; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Bernice Opal Lawson
Bernice Opal "Nun" Lawson, 85, of Gatesville, died Dec. 9, 2002 in a local nursing home.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Scott’s Funeral Home with Loyd Hall officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Lawson was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Lueders, the daughter of the late Walter and Pauline McCarty Woodard. She moved to Goldthwaite as a child and attended school there. On Nov. 10, 1933, she married Theron G. “GiGi” Lawson and they made their home in Goldthwaite before moving to Gatesville in 1969. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1986. She owned and operated Mode-O-Day in Gatesville for 22 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Gatesville Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Floyce Rodecker in 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Martin of Gatesville; brother, Bill Woodard of Cleburne; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Delbert Smith
Delbert Lee Smith of Gatesville died Dec. 7, 2002 at his residence. He was 69.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Gatesville.
He was born April 23, 1933, in Hatchel to James Lee and Leora (Bowen) Smith. He graduated from Ballinger High School, where he was an all-state football player, and also played football for one year at McMurry University. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-57. On Dec. 11, 1954, he married Rilla Yvonne Mullin in Ballinger. After completing his military service, he entered the ministry. He preached for 34 years in Robert Lee, Cleburne, Arlington, Farmers Branch, Spokane, WA, and Gatesville. Upon retirement in 1993, he started a remodeling business with his son, Tad, and worked for many people, including President and Mrs. Bush. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Mullin Smith; sons, Kenneth Delbert Smith of Santa Rosa, CA, Tad Logan Smith of Woodway and Robin Lee Smith of San Antonio; daughter, Mitzi Yvonne Smith of Waco; his mother, Leora Smith of Brownwood; brothers, Bobby Smith of Ballinger and Billy Wooten of Navasota; sisters, Margie Strother, Jean Stewart and Pat Mullins, all of Brownwood; and 12 grandchildren.
