Mr. Anderson
Olley Gordon Anderson, 88, died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007.
He was born May 12, 1919, in DeQueen, Ark. to James Gordon Anderson and Edna Ollie Brister Anderson. He graduated from S.F. Austin High School in 1938 and received his higher education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943 and held the rank of Master Sergeant. During World War II he worked as an Airline Engineer on B-17’s, while stationed in England. He flew missions over Germany, France and returned to Bergstrom A.F.B. in 1945, receiving the Silver Star. After the war he worked as an inspector for the Federal Government at Lockheed Aircraft Manufacturing in Marietta, Ga. while continuing his education at Pittsburg Tech.
In 1954 he opened a floor covering business in Austin and retired in 1979. He was a member of the Austin Elks Lodge Association Local #201 since 1957 and served as a two-term Exalted Ruler. He was State President of the Texas Elks Association in 1973-1974 and was nationally honored as the Grand Esquire of the Grand Lodge.
He was elected mayor of The Village of Highland Estates in 1985 and in 1987 was elected mayor of Lago Vista. He has served as a Municipal Court Judge for Lago Vista for the past 15 years.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and served with the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the VFW Post #8787 and The American Legion 83.
He loved spending time with his family, playing golf, traveling in his motorhome, gardening, deer hunting and being outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Renamie Gest.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth Mae Danz Anderson; three children, Barbara Jean Anderson McGuill and husband Albert Leo McGuill Jr. of Beeville, James Gordon Anderson of Hutto and Jeanette Anderson Baumann of Fulshear; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lago Vista. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 11 a.m. Thursday. A memorial service will be held by the Austin B.P.O. Elks Lodge #201 at Assumption Cemetery on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Albert Leo McGuill III, James Gordon Anderson Jr., Timothy Martin McGuill, Edward Joseph Anderson, Christopher Leigh McGuill, Kenneth Gordon Anderson.

Mr. Elling
Walter Elling, 78, of Beeville, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 6, 2007, after a long illness.
Walter John Elling was born November 9, 1928, in Kingsville, Texas to Ernest and Hildegard Jesse Elling. He was a member of the George West High School clas of 1946. He married Vinita Faye Brown in San Antonio, Texas on August 19, 1950. He owned and operated Elling Welding and Machine for many years before his recent retirement. He was a member of the Adams Street Church of Christ where he served as an elder.
For several years he taught Old Testament History at Bee County College. Walter was an avid wildlife photographer, having some of his photographs published in Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Texas Parks and Wildlife and other magazines. In recent years he had concentrated more on photos of people and documenting life on a working cattle ranch. Walter was a man of numerous and varied talents, yet he remained a down-to-earth and uncomlicated man, always keeping the needs of others foremost in his mind.
Survivors include his wife, Vinita Faye Elling of Beeville; daughters, Susan Dobra (Bill) and Melinda Hammond (Jeff) both of Beeville; daughter-in-law, Marcia Elling of Brownwood; grandchildren, Robby and Ryan Dobra of Beeville, Kimberly Hurt (Kyle) of Brownwood, Leslie Perkins (Mickel) of Austin, Andrew Elling (Chelsey) of Abilene, Jared, Whitney and Reagan Hammond of Beeville and many, many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Nancy Elling on March 31, 1958; and his son, Larry Elling on April 12, 2007.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at the Adams Street Church of Christ, officiated by Joshua Rodriguez and Kris Groda and burial followed at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Robby Dobra, Ryan Dobra, Andrew Elling, Jared Hammond, Kyle Hurt and Mickel Perkins.

Mr. Garcia
Rodolfo “Rudy” V. Garcia, 57, died on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria V. Garcia.
He is survived by his father, Alvino Garcia Sr.; two sons, Noel and Rudy Garcia Jr.; two daughters, JoAnn Balkeney and Janny Vasquez; four sisters, Rosalinda Garcia, Delma Garcia, Gloria Perez and Belinda Galvan; five brothers, Alvino Garcia, Jr., Michael Garcia, Reymundo Garcia, Mark Garcia and Rene Garcia; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Potter House Christian Church, 1224 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, with a funeral service to begin at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Alvino Garcia Jr., Mike Garcia, Reymundo Garcia, Mark Garcia, Christopher Garcia and Ruben Herrera.

Mr. Gomez
Mr. Jesus Gomez Jr., age 89, passed away on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at his residence after a short illness.
Mr. Gomez was born on Aug. 16, 1918, in Driscoll, Texas, to the late Jesus Gomez Sr. and Guadalupe Turoiabet. Mr. Gomez retired as a custodian with the Beeville Independent School District after 35 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Aurora Vidaurri Gomez of Beeville; two daughters, Elva Gomez Bernal and Patricia G. Gonzales and husband, Emilio; two sons, Eddie Gomez and wife Janie and Juan Gabriel Gomez, all of Beeville; 10 grandchildren, Lucy Bernal Benavides, Victor Gomez, Faustino Bernal III, Imelda Bernal, Cynthia K. Gomez, Benito Gomez, Lisa Gomez, Rachel Gomez, Michael Gonzales, and Marcia Gonzales; and six great-grandchildren.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. James Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated there at 3:30 p.m. Monday with Father Eddie Garcia and Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Special music was provided by the family. Burial followed in the Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Victor Gomez, Benito Gomez, Faustino Bernal, Micheal Gonzales, Emilio Gonzales and George Benavidez.

Juanita Campos Gonzales, 72, of Oakville, died on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Dilley, to Lucia Gonzales and Alfonso Campos. She married Ysabel C. Gonzales on Nov. 28, 1953, in Florence, Ariz. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Leon Campos, Roman Campos, Cruz Campos and Alfonso Campos Jr.; and her sisters, Angelita Gonzales, Julia Rendon and Maria Martinez.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Ysabel C. Gonzales of Oakville; four daughters, San Juanita Ramos and husband Armando of Kingsville, Mary Esquivel and husband Robert of George West, Lila Pena and husband Nick of Three Rivers, Mary Lou Gonzales and husband Jesse of Beeville; four sons, Reyes Gonzales and wife Janice of Helotes, Ysabel C. Gonzales Jr. and wife Amelia of Beeville, Felipe Gonzales and Penny Edwards of Oakville, and Jose Gonzales and wife Lynn of Dallas; 12 grandchildren, Natalie and Lillie Gonzales, Matthew Lee Gonzales, Jennifer Nicole Pena, Joseph and Analicia Pena, Jesse Gonzales Jr., Felipe Gonzales Jr., Johnathan Gonzales, Gabriel Gonzales, Corey Gonzales, and Sarah Mae Gonzales; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Erasmo Campos of Pawnee and Gilberto Campos of Corpus Christi; and two half-sisters, Fidela Guerra and Santos Alvarez, both of Houston.
Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers. Funeral Mass was celebrated there at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday). Interment was to follow at Oakville Cemetery in Oakville.

Mr. Gonzalez
Israel P. Gonzalez, 60, of George West, died on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007.
He was born on June 1, 1947, in Beeville, to Maria Paiz Gonzalez and Thomas F. Gonzalez. He was a laborer for lumber yard and Western Geophysical.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Erica Gonzalez.
He is survived by his wife, Tina L. Gonzalez of Beeville; one daughter, Maria Guadalupe Luna of George West; three sons, Manuel Gonzalez of George West, and Michael Gonzalez and Israel Gonzalez Jr., both of Fort Worth; one brother, Elizardo P. Gonzales of Beeville; three sisters, Yolanda Moreno and Maria DeHoyas, both of Beeville and San Juanita DeHoyas of Floyada; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Lukose Thirunelliparambil officiating. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.

Mr. Guzman
Guadalupe “Wally” Guzman, age 58, died on Oct. 4, 2007, in a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Guzman was born on Nov. 5, 1948, in Goliad, to the late Eugenio and Tomasita Gutierrez Guzman. Mr. Guzman was a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Survivors include his wife, Celia Lara Guzman of Beeville; three daughters, Cynthia (George) Arguijo of Beeville, Tammy (Jerry Mendoza) Guzman and Anita (Glenn) Forde, both of San Antonio; one brother, Lionel (Lucy) Guzman of El Paso; five sisters, Elena Hernandez of Beeville, Maria and Estella Guzman, both of Houston, Rita Guzman of Portland, Ore., and Gloria (Mencho) Martinez of Anaheim, Calif.; six grandchildren, Caleb Duran, Kiristin Arriaga, Imagen Arguijo, Rebekah, Emma and Leah Mendoza.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Jose Gutierrez officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2, with special music provided by Mariachi Amistad.
Pallbearers were Joel Chapa, Mark Barrera, Guadalupe Perez, Charlie Schanen, Guadalupe Lopez and John Posada. Honorary pallbeaters were Leticia Chapa, Lila Barrera, Belinda Perez, Lisa Banda and Robert Coley.
Mrs. Shepherd
Estelle Shepherd, 93, of Beeville, died on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007.
She was born in Saturn on Jan. 19, 1914, to Josephine Grosse and Roland Shepherd. She retired from Commercial National Bank in 1976.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Galloway & Sons Chapel. Graveside funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Saturn Cemetery in Saturn with Rev. Claude Jacks officiating.

Mr. Palacios
Erasmo G. Palacios, 70, died on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was an auto technician for Scoggins Motors.
He was born to Everisto and Francisca (Garza) Palacios on April 15, 1937, in Karnes City. He married Corina Marroquin on Oct. 6, 1979, in George West.
Mr. Palacios was preceded in death by his parents, Everisto and Francisca Palacios.
Survivors include his wife, Corina Palacios of George West; two daughters, Sandra Gutierrez of San Antonio and Thelma (Pablo) Perez of Schertz; four sisters, Elida Baltazar of Frisco, Tina Martinez of Houston, Alicia Trevino of Beeville and Esther Herrera of Houston; and three grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers and on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. in George West at the St. George Catholic Church. Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was celebrated there at 10 a.m. Friday. Interment followed in the George West Cemetery.
