Horton
Marion B. Horton, 53, died Tuesday morning, March 5, 2002. Mrs. Horton grew up in Pettus and had resided in Beeville for the past 31 years.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 o’clock tonight (Wednesday) at the Galloway & Sons chapel.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Don Taylor officiating. Organist Everett McAulay and soloist Ray Barefield will provide special music.
Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Johnny Bond, Jim Scotten, John Shears, Tom Dolezal, David Hutchens and Johnny Proffitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennie Belew, Erasmo Rodriguez, Sidney Robinson, KC Hamilton, Austin Kremers and Bobby Wroten.
Mrs. Horton was born here on Jan. 3, 1949, to Nell (Doughty) and Joe Marion Barnhart. She married Bubba Horton on June 5, 1971, in Austin. She was a graduate of Pettus High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Southwest Texas State University. Mrs. Horton was an English teacher at A.C. Jones High School. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bubba Horton of Beeville; two daughters, Lori Horton of Dallas and Kari Horton LeFevre and husband Richard of Harlingen; a son, Joseph “Jody” Horton of Carrollton; a brother, Joel Barnhart and wife Nancy of Corpus Christi; two nieces; a nephew; and numerous cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Marion B. Horton Scholarship Fund, c/o the First National Bank of Beeville.

Moreno
Carolina Rios Moreno, 72, died Saturday, March 2, 2002. She was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Roger to Carlos and Victoria (Perez) Rios. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include two daughters, Magdalena Plazola of Las Vegas, Nev., and Blanca Villarreal of San Antonio; two sons, Ricardo Moreno of Corpus Christi and Ernesto Moreno of Beeville; three sisters, Cleotilde Montez and Dominga Rios, both of San Antonio, and Clara Luna of Beeville; 22 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Jose and Reynaldo Moreno.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, with the Rev. Balaswamy Pasala officiating.
Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ernesto Moreno, Homer Garcia, Reynaldo Eric Moreno, Oscar Garcia, Luis Garcia and Reynaldo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers were Ricardo Moreno and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Muzquiz
Lela Olene Moore Muzquiz, 42, died Sunday, March 3, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Chapel, with the Rev. Bob Tomlinson officiating. Those arrangements were under the direction of Galloway & Sons Funeral Directors, Beeville.
Burial followed in Houston.
Mrs. Muzquiz was born Sept. 9, 1959, in Hobbs, N.M., to Betty Sue (Jetton) and Ed Moore. She had worked in the accounting department at 10 years for Rice Food Market in Houston before moving to Beeville. She was a member of Trinity Chapel.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the J.B. Earthman-Tanglewood Funeral Directors, 5740 San Felipe at Bering Drive in Houston.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairbanks Cemetery, 5600 Stonington. Those arrangements are under the direction of the J.B. Earthman-Tanglewood Funeral Directors in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her husband, John Muzquiz of Houston; her father, Elzie Moore Sr., and wife Nelda of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Sherry Diane Rochester and husband Tommy of Beeville and Patricia Levin and husband John of Meadow Place; a brother, Elzie Moore Jr. and wife Kathy stationed with the U.S. Army in Fayetteville, N.C.; special friends, Leah Lone Bear and Sandy Rey and husband John; and numerous aunts and uncles, three nieces and two nephews.

Alvarez
Stephen Alvarez, 68, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in a Corpus Christi hospital.
Visitation was held Thursday evening at Angelus Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Friday at 10 a.m. at Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Alvarez was born Sept. 2, 1933, to Reynaldo and Celestina (Perales) Alvarez. He resided in Beeville and was self-employed as an artist. He was a member of Word of Life Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and wife, Elodia Alvarez.
He is survived by a daughter, Ruby Meredith of San Antonio; a son, Estevan Alvarez of San Antonio; a longtime companion, Sylvia Cox of Beeville; one stepdaughter, Linda Myers of Beeville; one stepson, John Ruben Gonzalez; five sisters, Reyes Castaneda of San Marcos, Maria Cardona of Mathis, Juanita Ruiz and Beatrice Mercado, both of Beeville, and Alicia Parker of Woodville; one brother, Adam P. Alvarez of Beeville; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert Lee Barrientes, 29, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Graveside services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating.
Mr. Barrientes was born May 12, 1973, in Beeville, to Antonio and Felicita (Guajardo) Barrientes. He was a yardman and a member of the Catholic church.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his father, Antonio Barrientes of Beeville; one sister, Belinda B. Moya of Louisiana; a brother, Arturo Barrera Jr. of Beeville; four half-brothers, Phillip Barrientes of Beeville, David and Antonio Barrientes, both of Florida, and Salvador Barrientes of California.

Doubrava
Allyne Krause Doubrava, 89, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002.
She was born in Moulton on Oct. 29, 1912, to Fred William and Martha (Koening) Krause. She was retired from her occupations as a checker at H-E-B and in civil service. She was a member of the Lutheran church.
Mrs. Doubrava was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur and Alfred Krause; and four sisters, Lillie Schreiber, Hilda Hart, Erna Nation and Viola Wallek.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Steve Doubrava of Beeville; five daughters, Charlene (Dan) Gaskins of Karnes City, Joyce Pambianco and Mary Beth (Martin) Vickery, both of Beeville, Martha (Damon) Vickery of Port Lavaca and Lisa (Chris) Rey of Elsburg, Pa.; three sons, Robert James (Alma Faye) Doubrava of Beeville, Roy (Mary) Doubrava of Marble Falls and Carl (Nancy) Doubrava of Fredericksburg; 29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services were held Monday at 5 p.m. at Beeville Memorial Park with the Rev. Donald Taylor officiating.

Doubrava
Charles Steve Doubrava Jr., 89, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in a local nursing home.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1913, in Olmos to Charles A. and Annie M. (Sugarek) Doubrava. He was a farmer for 16 years in Olmos, moved to Beeville in 1949 and worked in the oil field for 27 years, before retiring in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Allyne K. Doubrava; and grandson, John William Doubrava.
Survivors include five daughters, Charlene (Dan) Gaskins of Karnes City, Joyce Pambianco and Mary Beth (Martin), both of Beeville, Martha (Damon) Vickery of Port Lavaca and Lisa (Chris) Rey of Elsbury, Pa.; three sons, Robert James (Alma Faye) Doubrava of Beeville, Roy (Mary) Doubrava of Marble Falls and Carl (Nancy) Doubrava of Fredericksburg; a brother, Eddie Doubrava of Pittsburg; 29 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Maldonado
Jerimiah David Maldonado, infant son of David Maldonado and Stormy Byars, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002.
Survivors include his parents; his sister, Chelsea Byars; a brother, Richard Byars; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Paula Byars; and his paternal grandparents, Ruben and Teresita Alonso, all of Beeville.
Graveside services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Cemetery with Deacon Manuel Carranco officiating.
McGee
Elmer McGee Jr., 69, died on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. at that location the same day. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio.
Mr. McGee was born in Bexar County to Elmer Sr. and Refugia (Solis) McGee on Nov. 4, 1932. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War veteran. He married Jean Barrett in August 1976 in Beeville. He resided here and was a truck driver for Permian Corp., hauling oil and gas. He retired after 10 years of service. He was a member of the Catholic church.
Mr. McGee is survived by his son, David Barrett of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Patricia Barrett of Beeville, Debra Hobbick of Placedo and Christine Spooner of Maryland; five grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

Ponce
Audelia Ponce, 70, of Fresno, Calif., formerly of Beeville, died on Sept. 22, 2002.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated here on Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church.
Funeral services took place on Sept. 25 in Fresno, with Father Salvador Gonzalez officiating. Interment followed in Belmont Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jose, Raul, Richard, John Ramon and Rueben Ponce, Noe Soliz, Juan Blanco and Roy Sanchez.
Mrs. Ponce was born in Beeville on Nov. 28, 1931, to Santos and Regina (Garcia) Soliz. She was married to Aucencio Ponce.
She is survived by her sons, Jose, Raul, Aucencio Jr., Richard, David, John Ramon and Rueben Ponce; her daughters, Eufemia Rodriguez, Teresa Ponce, Juanita Benavidez, Martha Montoya, Mary Ann Ponce and Sylvia Blanco; her brothers, Cervando, Ramon, Noe and Santos Soliz; her sister, Rosa Suniga; 36 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
