Joe M. “Little Joe” Garza, 54, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Spring Season Nursing Home.
Rosary was to be recited Friday evening at 7 o’clock at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at OLV at 10 a.m., with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cirildo Puente Jr., Jaime Muñoz, Ryan Cervantez, Alex Carranco, Estevan Garza and Javier Garcia.
Mr. Garza was born on Nov. 13, 1948, in Beeville to Jose P. and Dora (Muñoz) Garza. He was a member of OLV.
Survivors include his mother, Dora Muñoz Garza, and his sister, Rosie M. (Cirildo Sr.) Puente, all of Beeville.

Yetta Inez Webb Greer, 55, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in Corpus Christi.
No funeral services will be held.
Mrs. Greer was born on Dec. 3, 1947, in Beeville to Otis and Doreen (Stedman) Webb. She married Ellis Greer in 1964. She was a homemaker and a member of Full Gospel Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ellis Greer of Beeville; her father, Otis Webb of Dallas; three daughters, Leslie Curran and husband Neil, Lauren Waters and husband Scott, and Lacie Greer, all of Austin; three brothers, Carroll Webb and Irvin Webb, both of Dallas, and Michael Demas of Michigan; and one granddaughter, Frances Waters of Austin.

Hernandez
Ray V. Hernandez Jr., 38, of Friendswood died Thursday, July 31, 2003, in Webster.
Rosary was recited Sunday evening at 7 o’clock at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rene S. Casarez, Philip Cavazos, Gary Cavazos, Paul Hernandez, Jerry Casarez, Rudy Saenz, Herman Hernandez and Ryan Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Adan Vasquez, Raul Aguirre Jr., Eric Hill, David Benavidez and Noel Vasquez.
Mr. Hernandez was born in Beeville on Aug. 23, 1964, to Ray Sr. and Nilda (Vasquez) Hernandez. He graduated with honors from A.C. Jones High School, where he was an all-around athlete, in 1982 and attended the University of Texas at Austin. He resided in Friendswood and was employed in restaurant management. He was a Catholic and active with the children’s ministry in his community.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Martin Hernandez; two sons, Brody Hutchinson Hernandez and Cody Raymond Hernandez, all of Friendswood; his parents, Ray and Nilda V. Hernandez; his paternal grandmother, Adelita Hernandez; a sister, Roxanne (Raul) Aguirre, all of Beeville; a brother, Randy (Marina) Hernandez of Rosenberg; and four nephews, Raul “Trey” Aguirre III, Garrett Enrique Aguirre, Cordell Ray Aguirre, Seth Gabiel Aguirre and Adres Luis Hernandez of Rosenberg.

Howell
Charles William Howell, 23, of Center Point died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003.
He was born on Oct. 16, 1979, in Beeville to Charles Williams Arms Jr. and Brenda Howell. On Feb. 8, 2003, he married Brittany Goodman in Kerrville. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles William Arms Jr., grandfather, Homer Howell, and grandmother, Sydney Arms.
Survivors include his wife, Brittany Howell; mother, Brenda Howell Clayton, and stepfather, John Clayton; grandmother, Verlene Howell; a son, Charles William Howell II, and daughter, Emily Michelle Howell; sisters, Marsha Renee Howell and Cassandra Beth Clayton; brothers, Steve Lane Howell and Adan Ramon Garcia, all of Center Point; grandfather, Charles William Arms of Beeville; a stepbrother, Jarod Aaron Clayton of Ingram; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapel in Kerrville, with Don Davis officiating. Interment followed at Center Point Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Downs, Jason Downs, Charles Walsh, Sean Howell, Dusty Howell and Eddie Armas. Sean Osborn served as honorary pallbearer.
Arrangements were handled through Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.

Angel Marie Del Bosque, infant, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003. She was buried in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. Deacon Treviño officiated the graveside services.

Duplessis
Vincent “Mr. Mike/Grandpa” Duplessis, 88, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1915, in Pointe a la Hache, La., to Rene and Angeligne (St. Anne) Duplessis. He married Louise Poche in 1938 in New Orleans, La. He resided in Beeville and was a contract painter and a member of Bay Area Painters Union. He was a former member of the American Legion and belonged to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Poche Duplessis, and daughter, Patricia Duplessis Butterworth.
Survivors include his daughter, Gwen Horton and husband Robert “Bob” of Beeville; a son, Karl Duplessis and wife Jeanne of San Leandro, Calif.; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Gonzales
Francisco M. “Nico” Gonzales, 71, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at his residence in Normanna.
Rosary was recited Monday at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. James Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Lionel, Lazaro, Ruben and Frank Gonzales, Albert Del Bosque and Eloy Salazar.
Mr. Gonzales was born on Oct. 7, 1932, in Orange Grove to Guadalupe and Juanita (Morales) Gonzales. He was a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister, Juanita Olivo, and a daughter, Rosa Elvia Gonzales.
Survivors include his daughters, Estella and Delia Gonzales, both of Beeville, and Sandra (Albert) Del Bosque of Normanna; four sons, Lionel, Lazaro (Lydia), Ruben (Rosie) and Frank (Mary Ann) Gonzales, all of Beeville; two stepsisters, Isabel Peña of Austin and Oralia Huerta of Mathis; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Magdalena M. “Nena” Montez, 94, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Mrs. Montez was born on June 14, 1909, in Charco to Antonio and Nestora (Contreras) Mendoza. She married Santiago Montez Sr. in December 1934 in Charco. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include her daughter, Maria Ramirez of Victoria; two sons, Emilio Montez of San Antonio and Eduardo “Wally” Montez of Beeville; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Nettles
Warren T. Nettles, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at Treviño Funeral Home with the Revs. Andy Hunt and Bob Tomlinson officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Nettles was born on Nov. 6, 1933, in Nacogdoches to Dub and Ryner (Bell) Nettles. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired barge captain for Hollywood Marine. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Nettles, and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Ella A. Ryan Nettles of Beeville; two stepdaughters, Susan and Carol Vicery, both of George West; and a sister, Ester Stalling of Houston.

Porter
W.O. (Bill) Porter died at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Porter on Friday, Oct. 17, at First Baptist Church, Kenedy, led by Tim Williams, pastor, and assisted by Samuel Ingram of Beeville’s Bible Baptist Church.
William Overton Porter was born on March 6, 1914, in Runge. A descendant of Texas pioneer stock, his middle name was derived from a martyr in the 1836 Goliad Massacre, Samuel Overton Pettus; Overton being the name which Bill’s grandfather shared.
Mr. Porter was one of two children, the only son born to Guy Porter and Annie White Porter. He attended the Pettus schools while growing up in the area.
Later in his teenage years, Bill developed a strong fascination with radio electronics, and obtained a ham radio license at the age of 21. He used his skills in the electronics field, serving as a commercial radio engineer for KGBS. In connection with his expertise and knowledge of electronics, he was sought out by businesses in need of a communications consultant. Before and during World War II, Bill was a radio operator and navigator with Pan American Airways. This began a lifelong love of flying.
In 1948, Bill married Polly Goldsmith, a schoolteacher in the Harlingen School District. He established his business, Bee Mobilradio, in the 1960s. He was also a longtime member, for more than 50 years, at the First Baptist Church of Kenedy, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher, in addition to many other capacities. He served on the school board of the Pettus Independent School District for six years, and as president of the Karnes County Farm Bureau for five years.
He is survived by his wife, Polly Goldsmith Porter; a son, Billy Porter, and his wife, Elaine, of Kenedy; two daughters, Sherry White and husband Michael White of Bedford; Suzanne Brown and husband Dr. Edward Brown of Tyler; and three grandchildren, Elisabeth Porter Brown, Paul Douglas Brown and Carolyn Suzanne Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathryn Putnam.
Villarreal
Maria D. Villarreal, 90, of Odem died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at her residence following a short illness.
She was born in Tivoli and had been a resident of Odem for the past six years. She was a former resident of Refugio and was a housewife.
Rosary was recited Tuesday at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home chapel in Sinton. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Odem, with Father Henry Heese officiating. Interment followed in the Eternal Rest Cemetery in Sinton.
Survivors include three sons, Raul Villarreal of Beeville and Claudio and David Villarreal, both of Houston; five daughters, Avelia Galvan of Odem, Maria Remirez of Austin, Ofelia Perez and Celia Rios, both of San Antonio, and Lorraine Garza of Victoria; a sister, Catarina Duarte of Sinton; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddchildren.
