Gonzales
Venancio Gonzales, 62, of Three Rivers died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born April 12, 1939, in the Nell community to Maria (Villarreal) and Gregory Gonzales. He married Angelita “Angie” Sauceda on Sept. 24, 1961. A resident of Three Rivers for 21 years, he was a rancher and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gregorio Gonzales; and two sisters, Margarita Cruz and Olivia Carranco.
Survivors include his wife, Angelita “Angie” Gonzales of Three Rivers; three daughters, Cookie Bush of Corpus Christi, Diana Farias of Kenedy and Patsy Perales of Avondale, Pa.; one son, Daniel Ray Gonzales on Three Rivers; his mother, Maria V. Gonzales of Coy City; four grandchildren, Rudy Perales Jr., Venancio and Victoria Farias and Olivia Phillips; three sisters, Elvira Cruz of Kenedy, Elena Rocha of Three Rivers and Santos Rodriguez of Runge; five brothers, Bernabe Gonzales Sr. of Stockdale, Carlos Gonzales of Berclair, Gregorio Gonzales of Pawnee and Pedro and Rosendo Gonzales, both of Coy City.
Rosary will be recited at 7 o’clock tonight (Wednesday) at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with the Rev. Pedro Molina officiating.
Burial will follow in the Nell Cemetery.
Gutierrez
Roberto Torres Gutierrez, 74, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002. He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in George West to Jesusa (Torres) and Guadalupe Gutierrez. He was retired from the City of Beeville and was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include four daughters, Betty (George) Rodriguez of Katy, Rachel (Brad) Backman of Coral, Fla., and Janie Hubbard and Teresa (Robert) Sauceda, all of Houston; two sons, Guadalupe and David Gutierrez, both of Beeville; seven sisters, Maria Sanchez and Jesusa Rodriguez, both of Floydada, Amada Garza, Eloisa Perez and Juanita Gomez, all of Beeville, Estella Ramon of Rockport and Elena Hernandez of Baytown; two brothers, Manuel Gutierrez of Beeville and Joe Gutierrez of Rockport; 12 grandchildren, Ryan and Jonathan Gutierrez, Erica and Michael Moreno, John Rodriguez, Samantha and Joshua Backman, Robert, Anthony and Jennifer Gutierrez, Leslie Hubbard and Roxanne Sauceda.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating.
Burial followed in the Cadiz Cemetery. Pallbearers were Guadalupe, Robert, Anthony, Jennifer and David Gutierrez and Michael Moreno.
Lambert
Mary Lambert, 64, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in a George West nursing home.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Full Gospel Church in Beeville, with Pastor Carl L. Pickett officiating.
Mrs. Lambert was born April 15, 1937, in VanLear, Ky., to Esta Opal (Salyers) and Willie Green. She was a retired store clerk and a member of Full Gospel Church
Survivors include five daughters, Brenda Dalman and husband Clif of McAllen and Karen Aerts and husband Alan, Lisa Alvarado and husband Jaime, Cindy Treviño and Tammy Treviño, all of Beeville; a son, Daniel Treviño and wife Theresa of Muskegon, Mich.; two sisters, Ruth Bean of Edmonton, Ky., and Phyllis Ulrich and husband John of Michigan; two brothers, Bud Green and wife Sandy and Jimmy Green, all of Michigan; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John W. Lambert; and a son, Cosme Treviño Jr.

Sanguinet
Addie E. “Happy” Sanguinet, 86, of Lagarto died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002. She was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Lagarto and had been a lifelong resident there. She was a rancher and descendant of a pioneer ranching family.
She attended Carroll College in San Antonio and also the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her family donated land for the Zephyr Baptist Encampment at Lake Corpus Christi, and she was an honorary board member for the encampment. Mrs. Sanguinet helped establish Primera Iglesia Bautista in Mathis and she and her family developed Carmel Hills Subdivision on Lake Corpus Christi.
Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Newberry of Arlington and Dilek Parr of Boerne; a brother, Carroll G. Miller of Sandia; four grandchildren, Melissa Newberry of Arlington, Aysel Parr Heckel of Boerne, Tesha Parr Solomon of Houston and William Robert Parr III of Wake Forest, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Ayse and Sayan Heckel of Boerne.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dobie Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Bubba Stahl officiating.
Burial followed in the Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis.
Airheart
Carolyn Cochran Airheart, 54, died April 25, 2002, in Houston’s M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Services were held April 28 at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, with interment following in Glendale Cemetery in Lufkin.
Mrs. Airheart was a 1969 graduate of Southwestern University of Georgetown and worked for Entrust Inc. for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Johnny, and daughter, Whitney, both of Houston; a sister, Candy Cochran of Galveston; a brother, Woody Cochran and wife Kay of Wylie; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Irene Airheart of Beeville; and two aunts, Christie Dougan of Arizona and Katie Marie Garrard of Houston.
Donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society or one’s favorite charity.
Barefield
Mary Lou Barefield, 81, died Saturday, May 5, 2002.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Galloway and Sons Chapel. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Rendell Tarver officiating. Burial will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Pallbearers are Charles Hodge Jr., Lionel Hodge, Mitchell Smith, Kelvin Davis, Paul Norman Green and Julius Hunter.
Mrs. Barefield was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Beeville to Samuel Henry and Mollie Georgie (Henderson) Barefield. A lifelong resident of Beeville, she was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Ray Barefield of Beeville; two daughters, Gloria Lewis and Esther Smith, both of Beeville; two grandchildren, Charleston Bess of Sinton and Charlotte Stovall of Calallen; one great-granddaughter, Brandie Washington of Bellsville, Ill.; two sisters, Sammie Lee Barefield and Daisy Tippens of Beeville; 12 other grandchildren; 28 other great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Barefield
Sammie Lee Barefield, 92, died Monday, July 12, 2004.
Ms. Barefield was born in Goliad on Feb. 10, 1912. She was one of 13 children born to Mollie (Henderson) and Samuel Barefield. She moved to Beeville at an early age and attended the Negro School. She worked as a domestic for many years.
She joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church as a child. She served faithfully until her health began to fail as director of the Baptist Training Union, Sunday school teacher and secretary of the Bee County Institute. She was also part of the Mt. Zion District Association and Eastern Star.
Her parents, nine sisters, two brothers and a nephew, Larry Denson, whom she raised, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sister, Daisy Tippins of Beeville; many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Beeville. Interment followed at St. Rose Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled through Corpus Christi Funeral Home.
Copeland
Ardis Lucille Perry Copeland, 76, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, following a short illness with cancer.
She was born in Live Oak County to E.H. Perry Jr. and Fannie Benham. She graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor University and taught school for 27 years until her retirement from the Three Rivers ISD. She was named teacher of the year in 1972. She was a member of the Eastern Star and past matron in 1958. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers.
She is survived by her husband, G.T. Copeland of Kenedy; three sons, Perry Thomas (Beverly) Copeland of Victoria, Patrick Copeland of Three Rivers and Carl (Becky) Lewis of Pettus; one daughter, Iris (Charlie) Johnston of Three Rivers; one sister, Sandra (Tom) Robinson of Grand Prairie; and four grandchildren.
Services are pending at Roberson Funeral Home of Three Rivers.
Rodriguez
Olivia Rodriguez, 75, died Thursday, May 2, 2002.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy with the Rev. Abel Garcia officiating. Burial followed in Kenedy’s Loma Alta Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jose Salinas Jr., Eric Shane Keith, Jamie Salinas, Brandon Lee Allen, Daniel Salinas Sr. and Donato Salinas Sr.
Mrs. Rodriguez was born June 22, 1926, in Choate to Ricardo and Micaella (Alvarez) Amaya. She married Vicente Rodriguez on Feb. 14, 1950, in Kenedy. She was a housewife and a Protestant.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Paula Fuentes; five brothers, Benito, Jesus, Juan, Manuel and Otavino Amaya; a son, Manuel Mendez; and two grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Guadalupe Escobedo of Kenedy, Yolanda (Keith) Lonnie of Baird and Victoria (Jose) Salinas of Beeville; a son, Juan (Maria) Mendez of Winters; a sister, Candelaria Mendez of Kenedy; a brother, Reyes Amaya of Brady; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Garza
Ernestina G. Garza, 69, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002.
Prayer services were held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial followed in Banquete.
Mrs. Garza was an employee of the Bee Community Action Agency and a Jehovah’s Witness. She was born in Banquete on March 10, 1933, to Esequiel and Maria (Bautista) Gonzales.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Garza Sr. of Beeville; two daughters, Gloria Hernandez of Houston and Myra (Richard) Ramirez of Bastrop; three sons, Frank (Gloria) Garza Jr. of San Antonio, Raul Garza of Beeville and Rudy (Theresa) Garza of Midlothian; two sisters, Ofelia Longoria of Hamlin and Herminia Flores of Pasadena; two brothers, Julio Gonzales of Banquete and Esequiel Gonzales of Pasadena; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Puente
Domingo I. Puente, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002.
Visitation was held Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. A prayer service was held that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral services were held Friday at 5 p.m. at Angelus chapel. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Puente was born in Austwell on Jan. 5, 1918, to Bernabe and Gabriella (Isaguirre) Puente. He attended college for two years and served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Bonnie Solis in San Angelo on Sept. 3, 1949.
He was a Beeville resident and a retired civil service employee. He was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista of Mineral. Mr. Puente was also a member of AARP and the treasurer for his church. He was an avid pool player and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Solis Puente, on March 3, 1998.
Mr. Puente is survived by two sons, Benny (Viola) Puente and Domingo Puente Jr.; one daughter, Frances Puente, all of Beeville; one brother, Tiburcio “Butch” Puente of Arizona; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
