Arthur Meador, age 76, of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wes Covey officiating. Burial followed at Clifton Cemetery.
Arthur was born on April 19, 1934, in Holder, Texas, to Oscar and Evie Shelett Meador. He grew up in San Saba, Texas. He was a member of Gatesville Revival Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; three brothers; daughters, Betty Meador and Connie Meador; and great-grandson, Gage.
Arthur is survived by wife, Karen Meador, of Gatesville; daughters, Debbie Covey and husband, Wes, of Gatesville, Eva Meador of Ft. Worth, Tammy Hines of Rome and Lisa Hines of Ft. Worth; sons, Robbie Meador of Waco, Ricky Meador of Waco and Tommy Meador of Gatesville; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Alfons (Al) Brand
March 26, 1933–November 16, 2010
Alfons (Al) Brand, of Oglesby, passed away, Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at a Temple hospital. He was 77.
Alfons was born on March 26, 1933, in Germany. He moved to Canada and became a Canadian citizen as a young man. He married Helga Friedrich on May 5, 1962, in Milwaukee. They have resided in Oglesby since 1978.
He was preceded in death by great-grandson, Noah Bradshaw.
Alfons is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helga; daughters, Ellen Everling of McGregor and Jeanette Brand of Star; son, Ralph Brand and wife, Nancy, of Oglesby; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Joe G. Baker
Joe G. Baker passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the age of 91.
Mr. Baker was born July 4, 1919, in Crawford, Texas, to the late Charles and Alma Baker. Joe was a 1937 graduate of Gatesville High School where he participated in football and track. After graduation, Joe attended Independence (KS) Junior College and Ottawa (KS) University on football scholarships to further his academic career. His college education was interrupted by the onset of WW II. Joe enlisted in the Marine Corps on December 8, 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He participated in many battles in the Pacific Theater, including Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Tinian and Saipan. During a fierce battle on Saipan, Joe was wounded and spent seven days in a field hospital. He later returned to his unit and saw further action. He would be awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds, some 56 years after the war.
After the war, Joe completed his college education at Washburn University in Topeka, KS, with help from the G.I. bill. While at Washburn, Joe was an assistant football coach. He also received his master’s degree from the University of Kansas in 1957. He was hired as a football, basketball and track coach in 1948, and later, as director of athletics at Turner High School in Kansas City, KS. He would retire in 1984, having served the school district and community for 37 years.
While attending Washburn University, Joe met Anna Moden and made her his wife on June 5, 1948. They were married for 62 years. She survives and resides in San Antonio, TX. Other members of the family include his children, Dr. Jay Baker and wife, Dr. Cynthia Baker, of Ozark, MO, and Joanna Grogan and husband, Pat, of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Becky Dailey and husband, Lt. Klint Dailey, of Sierra Vista, AZ, Joshua Baker and wife, Tori, of Kansas City, KS, Jennifer Hornick and husband, Neil, of Ozark, MO, and Matt Grogan and wife, Maggie, of St. Louis, MO; great-grandchildren, Lillian Dailey, Brynn Dailey, Jackson Dailey, Gage Hornick, Jayden Baker and Cora Dailey; brother, Charles Baker of Kingsville, TX; and sister, Joyce Bone of Gatesville, TX.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a son, Wade Baker; and by his sister, Avis Colwick.
A memorial service will be held on today (Saturday), November 20, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home in San Antonio.

Robert Wayne Henson
Robert Wayne Henson, of Gatesville, died Monday, April 18, 2011. He was 51.
A private family service was held in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Henson was born Oct. 30, 1959, to Roy and Belva Thompson Henson in Gatesville. He attended school in Gatesville. He worked at Hillside Manor for several years as a cook.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Nena Harrington of Flat and brother, Bobby Henson of Gatesville.
Juanita Lockie Petree
Juanita L. Petree, age 87, of Gatesville, passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at a local nursing center.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Restland Cemetery.
Juanita was born February 14, 1924, in Madison County, Texas. She was the daughter of Wesley Alvin Diserens and Lockie Irene Middleton Diserens. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1941. Juanita married Edwin Petree in Lampasas on March 7, 1942. She lived in Gatesville all of her married life, except during World War II. Juanita was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include daughter, Carolyn Hartis and husband, Don, of Gatesville; son, Charles Petree and wife, Alisa, of Waco; sister, Wilma Spence of Frankston; and four grandchildren, Greg Hartis of Gatesville and Karen Petree, Stephen Petree and wife, Cameryn, and Kristen Petree, all of Waco.
Ophel Dyer
Ophel Dyer of Gatesville died March 29, 2002 at a local hospital. She was 88.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Walker Cemetery.
Mrs. Dyer was born March 3, 1914, in the Friendship community of Coryell County to the late E.E. and Essie Andrews Autrey. She was reared and attended school in the Friendship community. She married Ernest Dyer on Feb. 23, 1935, and they resided in Gatesville all their married life. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1971. She retired from Walls Manufacturing in 1980. She was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Eugene Dyer of Gatesville; daughter, Doris Rhoads of Gatesville; brother, Claudis Autrey of Temple; sister, Essie Lee Talbott of DeSoto; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dewey Jones, Charles Hollingsworth, Allen Davidson, Charles Williams, Ted Satcher and Wayne Turner.
The family requests memorials be made to Live Oak Baptist Church.
Sibyl Walters
Sibyl Christine Walters of Loop died March 31, 2002 at the age of 85.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Loop with the Revs. Carrol Green and Charles Hargrove officiating. Burial was in Gaines County Cemetery.
Mrs. Walters was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Youngsport. She was a member of the Loop Quilting Club, senior citizens group and First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Obie Lee “Tex” Walters, and a granddaughter.
Survivors include three sons, Calwyn of Ovalo, Ray of Loop and Joe of Lubbock; two daughters, Glenda Bagwell of Loop and Marcine Duncan of Denver City; five sisters, Janice Caudle of Waco, Billie Lusk of Austin, Wanda Walker and Patsy Blanchard, both of Gatesville, and Peggy Wolfe of Moffat; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
