Smith
Samuel Henry Smith IV, 53, a victim of cerebral palsy since birth, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002.
A rosary was recited Friday at 7 p.m. at the Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel in Corpus Christi. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Corpus Christi with Father Roger Smith as celebrant. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beeville.
Mr. Smith was born in Beeville Oct. 28, 1948, to Samuel Henry and Eleanor Smith. He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor of Corpus Christi; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Eleanor and Jim Grier of Garland and Barbara and Marty Kieschnick of Corpus Christi; one nephew, Clayton Grier of Garland; three nieces, Christina Grier of Garland and Rachel and Patricia Kieschnick of Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

Valadez
Juan Manuel Valadez Jr., 47, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in Hallettsville.
Visitation was held Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Galloway and Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary was recited at 7 o’clock that evening in the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial will follow in Three Rivers Cemetery.
Mr. Valadez was born to Juanita (Almendarez) and Juan Cruz Valadez Sr. in Tilden on June 28, 1954. He married Beatrice Lopez Valadez 17 years ago in Levelland. The family resided in Three Rivers, where Mr. Valadez was an oil field worker and a member of Sacred Heart. He was a cowboy and a real family man.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Valadez; one son, Juan Manuel “Trey” Valadez III; one daughter, Regina Nichole Valadez, all of Three Rivers; two sisters, Dominga Muñoz of George West and Mellie Favela of Three Rivers; three brothers, Jose and Ralph Valadez, both of Three Rivers, and Marcus Valadez of Beeville; his parents, Juan and Juanita Valadez of Three Rivers; and numerous other relatives.

Villarreal
Antonia Fuentes Villarreal, 91, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Spring Season Nursing Home in Beeville.
Visitation was held Friday at Angelus Funeral Home Chapel. Rosary was recited Friday night at 7:30 at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Manny Segovia, Louis Anthony Segovia, Joe Ernest Segovia, Arthur Lee “Tudy” Segovia, Patrick Reyna and John Reyna.
Mrs. Villarreal was born Oct. 21, 1910, in Refugio to Antonio and Liberata (AnzalduaAnzulda) Fuentes. She was a retired seamstress and a member of the Catholic church. She resided in Beeville. She was married twice, to Manuel Montez and Encarnacion Villarreal, who preceded her in death. Her parents also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Minnie Segovia and husband Johnny of Beeville; one stepdaughter, Elisa V. Capistran and husband Rudy of Refugio; two sisters, Eva Reyna of Victoria and Amelia Cano of Cuero; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Constantino “Conta” Billegas, 63, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002.
Visitation was held Sunday at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Graveside services followed in the Weesatche Cemetery in Weesatche. Pallbearers were Constantino, Noe, Valentine, and Abel Villegas, John Henry Treviño, and Johnny Santibañez.
Mr. Billegas was born on March 11, 1939 in Goliad to Guadalupe and Gregoria (Marin) Villegas.
He was a resident of Beeville and an automotive technician. He was a member of the Catholic church.
Mr. Billegas is survived by his four sons, Constantino “Pete” Villegas (Derlina) of Calallen, Noe Villegas (Sylvia) , Valentine Villegas (Adelita) and Abel Villegas (Christie), all of Beeville; three daughters, Rosa Treviño (Eloy) of California; Suzanna Santibañez (Johnny) of San Antonio, and Patricia Villegas of Beeville; one sister Maria Flores of Goliad; two brothers, Militon and Juan Villegas, both of Houston; 26 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ascension Reyna Parker, 70, of Three Rivers died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Corpus Christi. Mrs. Parker was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Runge to Maximo and Christine (Breones) Reyna. She married Jimmy Parker on July 26, 1976, in Kenedy. She was a homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Cruz Reyna; and her first husband, Pablo Cruz Jr., in 1970.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Parker of Three Rivers; two daughters, Christina (Felix) DeLeon of Beeville and Lucinda (Bill) Griffith of Fashing; three sons, Pablo E. (Emily) Cruz and Cruz Cruz of Three Rivers and Eliseo Cruz of Beeville; a stepson, James (Vanessa) Parker of Louisville, Ky.; seven grandsons; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
Visitation was held Monday at the Galloway & Sons Funeral chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers, with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Organist was Jackie Stroleny.
Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery. Pallbearers were Phillip Griffith, Billy DeLeon, Brandon DeLeon, Paul Griffith, Adam Cruz and Danny Reyna.
Honorary pallbearer was Michael Reyna.

Antonia R. Chapa, 88, died on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002.
A rosary was to be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Mineral Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Zaragosa Rodriguez Jr., Joe and Larry Rodriguez, Ernesto and Ruben Hernandez and Pedro Casarez Jr.
Mrs. Chapa was born on March 6, 1914, in Runge to Librado and Guadalupe (Guerra) Rodriguez. She was a retired cook and a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, Francisco Chapa of Beeville; four daughters, Josie Hernandez of Freer, Lupe Crowder of Charleston, S.C., Bertha Chapa of Beeville and Juanita Casarez of Fort Worth; two sons, Adolfo Chapa of Fort Worth and Edward Perales of Beeville; a sister, Maria Villarreal of Mississippi; two brothers, Zaragosa Rodriguez of Beeville and Hilario Rodriguez of Corpus Christi; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Fox
The Rev. Edgar L. Fox, 68, a longtime columnist for the Bee-Picayune, died on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at his residence in Pettus.
Mr. Fox wrote “Pettus Potpourri” for many years. He was a retired minister and a Mason.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1934, to John and Mary (Green) Fox in Tulsita. He was a member of First Christian Church in Pettus. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy, with the Rev. Leo Oliver officiating. Burial followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.

Gibson
James C. Gibson, 93, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at his residence in Beeville.
Visitation was scheduled to take place Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. A second visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Montgomery-Stewart Funeral Home in Pueblo, Colo. Mr. Gibson will be interred at Roselawn Cemetery there.
Mr. Gibson was born on Aug. 3, 1909, in Albany County, Okla., to Samuel Robert and Bertie (Hicks) Gibson. He married Bessie Ruth Radarmel on Oct. 7, 1943, in Pueblo, Colo. He was retired from Colorado Fuel & Iron, after working there 35 years.
Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents and his spouse, who died on Aug. 28, 1995. He is survived by three sons, Robert W. and Wesley L. Gibson, both of Beeville, and James C. Gibson Jr. of Mound, Minn.; two brothers, Arlie Gibson of Riverside, Calif., and Robert Gibson of Wichita Falls; one sister, Agnes Knapp of Pueblo, Colo.; several grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Muennink
Christine Muennink, 88, of Refugio died on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002. She was a former Beeville resident and an elementary, high school and college teacher.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothye Mayberry Naylor of Refugio; a sister, Evelyn Haynes of Paris; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Old St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bayside.

O’Neal
Charles Douglas O’Neal, 85, of Kingwood died on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002.
He was born on April 18, 1917, to Clyde and Winnice O’Neal in Devine. He was a retired supervisor of pipelines for Champlin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Troy O’Neal.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Saturday) at Kingwood Funeral Home chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Texas Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104-9984.

Pickens
Lynn “Easy” Pickens, 81, died on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital, following complications from surgery.
Mr. Pickens was born on April 30, 1921, in Big Wells. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Beeville. He was a World War II Navy veteran, stationed in Hawaii for four years. He was a football official for many years in the 1A division. Mr. Pickens was a past president of the Lumbermen’s Association, and was retired from Corpus Christi Brick and Lumber, as well as Zarsky Lumber Co.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Joyce Pickens; his two daughters, Lynette Pickens-Fant and husband Wayne of Austin and Renee Pickens-Perez and husband Dwight of Calallen; four grandchildren, Emily and Marshall Fant of Austin and Lindsey and Evan Perez of Calallen; a brother, Marvin Pickens and wife Beulah of Fredericksburg; a sister, Nadine Lesikar of Kerrville; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was scheduled to be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday at Seaside Funeral Home’s Reid Chapel. Funeral services followed at 1 p.m. in the same location. Entombment was to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
