Silva
Juan Diego Silva, infant son of Juan Silva and Debra Rivas of Beeville, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Graveside services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Luis Cavazos and Encarnacion Silva Romero.
Juan Diego is survived by his parents, his maternal grandmother, Lucia Cavazos of Mathis, and his paternal grandmother, Esperanza Morales Garcia of Queretaro, Mexico.

Rafaela Barrientes Vela, 88, of Refugio, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002.
Rosary was recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Herb, Gabriel, and Miguel Barrientes, Marvin Padilla, Russell Garcia, and Rudy Vela.
Mrs. Vela was born in Gonzales on Oct. 24, 1913, to Apolonio and Antonia (Acevedo) Barrientes. She was a housewife and a Catholic. She was married to Nicolas Vela Sr., who preceded her in death in 1958.
She is survived by two daughters, Maria Elena (Felipe) Martinez of Nolanville and Olga (Henry) Cisneros of Rockport; three sons, Serafin Vela of Refugio, Nicolas (Martha) Vela of Shenandoa, and Martin (Maria Elena) Vela of Fort Worth; a sister, Christina Moreno of Beeville; six half-sisters, Teodora B. Robles, Virginia B. Gonzales, and Maria B. Alvarez, all of Weslaco, Lorenza B. Santellana of Indiana, and Lillie Barrientes and Lucia Blakely, both of Beeville; seven half-brothers, Daniel, Reynaldo, Vicente, Ramiro and Pedro Barrientes, all of Weslaco, and Antonio and Salvador Barrientes, both of Beeville; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lydia Martina Garcia, 41, of Beeville died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1961. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Contreras of Refugio; three sons, Doroteo Garcia (Elizabeth) of Corpus Christi, Santos Salas (Monica) of New Mexico, and George (Celeste) Garcia of Dallas; seven sisters, Cookie Salas and Suelema Landin of New Mexico, Irene Zerene of Florida, Mary Anne Barbosa, Mary Esther Tamayo and Sofie Smith, all of California, and Dolores Archer of Houston; two brothers, Casimiro Tamayo of Brownsville and Tony Tamayo of Los Fresnos; and two grandsons.
Visitation was held at Corpus Christi Funeral Home on Thursday. A rosary was recited that evening. Funeral services followed Friday morning at that location.
Arrangements were handled through Corpus Christi Funeral Home.
Martinez
Israel Damian Martinez, infant son of Angeline and Ismael Martinez III, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, in Corpus Christi.
Graveside services were held Friday at 10 a.m. at Beeville Memorial Park with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating.
Israel was born on July 31, 2002, in Corpus Christi to Ismael Martinez III and Angeline DeLaPaz Martinez of Beeville.
He is survived by his parents; his brother, Ismael Martinez IV; a half brother, Juan Adrian Medina; two half sisters, Leonor Cassandra Ann DeLaPaz and Jona Danielle Schaffer Martinez; his paternal grandparents, Sylvia and Ismael Martinez Jr. of Beeville; his maternal grandfather, Domingo DeLaPaz of Beeville; his maternal grandmother, Ann Valdez of San Antonio; his paternal great-grandmother, Olivia Martinez of Corpus Christi; and his maternal great-grandmother, Adela Cavanas of Beeville.

Pedro A. Carabajal, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002.
Visitation will be held all day today (Wednesday) until 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary will be recited this evening at 7 o’clock in the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Leo G. Carabajal, Juan Ramon Carabajal, Ruben Barrera, Rudy Cantu, David Garza and Roy Salas. Honorary pallbearer is Danny Garza.
Mr. Carabajal was born on Nov. 8, 1920, in Bee County to Pedro Moya Carabajal and Guadalupe Arrisola. He married Elvira Vasquez on Sept. 1, 1946, in Beeville. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of St. James. In his retirement days, he enjoyed meeting friends for breakfast.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Jose Angel “Chanke” Carabajal, his parents, four sisters and one brother.
Mr. Carabajal is survived by his wife, Elvira Carabajal of Beeville; two sons, Leo (Ortensia) Carabajal of Beeville and Ricky (Martha) Carabajal of Spade; one daughter, Jesusa (Felipe) Cantu of Hereford; one stepson, Jorge (Nellie) Garza of Dripping Springs; one stepdaughter, Mage (Benito) Barrera of Lubbock; two brothers, Nicholas (Lupita) Carabajal of Beeville and Juan (Elvira) Carabajal of Seadrift; one sister, Juaqina Castillo of Olton; 25 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

Pablo S. Garcia, 92, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, in Victoria.
Visitation was held Monday at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. A prayer service was held that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral services took place Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Beeville, with the Rev. Mark Spence officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Paul Hulbert, Isaac Waldron, William Hulbert II, Corey Waldron, Don Brubaker, Victor Acepcion and Nick Muñoz.
Mr. Garcia was born on Sept. 18, 1910, in Beeville to Juan and Cecilia G. (Saldana) Garcia. He married Dora Ochoa Garcia on June 25, 1944, in Beeville.
He was self-employed as an electrician, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beeville. He served as a deacon and taught the adult Sunday School class. He was the lay person for the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Mr. Garcia served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He played for the Cardinals in the U.S. Army baseball team with his battalion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Dora Alice Garcia, and four sisters.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Dora O. Garcia of Beeville; four daughters, Mary Acepcion and husband Manuel of Beeville, Martha Hulbert of Inez, Josephine Waldron and husband Wilson I. of San Antonio and Cecilia Brubaker and husband Don of Victoria; one brother, Daniel Garcia of League City; two sisters, Grace Mains and husband David of Crawford, Colo., and Benigna Cisneros of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jessup
William J. Jessup, 88, of Kenedy, formerly of Cambridge, Mass., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Kenedy.
He was a retired stock broker for Paine Webber and a member of the Presbyterian church.
Mr. Jessup was born on Dec. 16, 1913. He married Mary May Jessup on June 19, 1946. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a captain in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife and his sister, Josephine Wood of Houston.
Graveside services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Kenedy Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenedy Cemetery Association.

Merle Jones Garner, 90, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.
Visitation was held Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Graveside services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Pastor Charles Childers officiating. Special music was provided by soloist Marsha Childers.
Mrs. Garner was born on May 28, 1912, in Big Foot to Henry and Minnie Mae (Hibdon) Jones. She married Duff Morgan Garner Jr. in Mexico in January 1957. She resided in Jourdanton and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She enjoyed dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (who died on Feb. 18, 2002), and a son, Howard Overstreet.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Pierce and husband Larry of Bandera; three sons, Carlos Overstreet and Kenneth Overstreet and wife Beth, all of Cotulla, and Charles Overstreet and wife Jeanne of Silver City, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Myrtle Greenhill of Carrizo Springs; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

McCameron
Pauline Lyles McCameron, 83, died Saturday, March 1, 2003.
Visitation was held Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home. Rosary was recited at 7 o’clock that evening at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Special music was provided by organist Sister Julie Macaraeg. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Bill Fowler II, Kenny McCameron, James Stark, Ed McCameron Jr., Charlie Porter II and Mel Hofmeister. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Bosworth, Vern Hoffmann and Leroy Gilley.
Mrs. McCameron was born on Sept. 1, 1919, in Good Springs to Amos Lee and Irene (Shuttlesworth) Lyles. She married Troy L. McCameron in 1934 in Wright City.
The couple resided in Beeville and were married 56 years. Mrs. McCameron was the co-owner of Mac’s Radio and TV Sales and Services. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy L. McCameron, in 1990; her son, Sherman Don McCameron, in 2002; and three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Edward L. McCameron and wife Gaye Lynn of Harlingen and Charles R. McCameron and wife Joyce of Beeville; one daughter, Dorothy McCameron Fowler and husband Bill of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Alvarado
Joe Alvarado, 72, of Littlefield died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
Mr. Alvarado was born July 2, 1930, in Bee County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received a Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the ROK Free Unit CIT/Good Conduct Medal. He moved to Littlefield after an honorable discharge from the Army.
Mr. Alvarado was preceded in death by two brothers, Manuel Alvarado and Juan Alvarado; and two sisters, Anita Treviño and Marcela Gonzales.
Survivors include his wife, Elisa Alvarado of Littlefield; two sons, Joe Alvarado Jr. and Vicente Alvarado, both of Littlefield; five daughters, Celia Pratt, Elena Cristan and Patricia Alvarado, all of Littlefield, Linda Cantu and Sandra A. Romero, both of Three Rivers; three brothers, Geraldo Alvarado (his twin) of Kenedy, Enrique Alvarado of Pawnee and Benito Alvarado of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Elena Debosquez of Corpus Christi and Chana Escamilla of Pawnee; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous friends.
The funeral was held Thursday, June 19, at the Temple of Adoration Church in Littlefield with the Rev. Marco Colina officiating. A prayer service was conducted at Hammons Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Littlefield Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Aaron Pratt, Brady Pratt, Ismael Rodriguez Jr., Dominic Alvarado, Eddie Gomez Jr. and Joshua Alvarado.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Society.
