Mrs. Thomas
Willie F. Thomas, 84, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007, at her home in the Garden Estates Retirement Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was born July 27, 1922, in Stockdale, Texas to Frank and Carrie Moffett.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Mildred Withers; and her loving husband of 43 years, T.Y. Thomas, who passed away on December 20, 2002.
She is survived by her nephew, Bruce M. Withers, Jr. and his wife Ruby of The Woodlands, Texas; Ethel Withers, the wife of her late nephew Bob Withers, from Houston, Texas; her great nephew, Robert W. Withers and wife Linda from Houston, Texas; two great nieces, Rochelle Martin and her husband, Don from Atlanta, Georgia and Robin Winegar and her husband Richard from The Woodlands, Texas; and four great-great nephews, Luke, Joshua and Timothy Withers and Andrew Winegar. Also surviving Mrs. Thomas are the children of her late husband, T.Y. Thomas, Jr. and family of San Antonio, Texas and Sissy Ogden and family of Sabinal, Texas.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 6th at Stockdale Cemetery, Stockdale, Texas at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Chavarria
Eva Estrada Chavarria, 81, of Beeville died on Tuesday, May 29, 2007.
She was born on May 8, 1926, in Beeville to Ramon and Maclovia Duenes Estrada. She married Amalio G. Chavarria in Beeville on May 30, 1946. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Rosie Rodriguez; four brothers, Jessy Estrada, David Estrada, Jacinto Estrada and Jimmy Estrada; and three sisters, Carolina DelBosque, Virginia Gutierrez and Santos Garza.
Survivors include her husband, Amalio G. Chavarria of Beeville; one granddaughter, Sandra Garza of Beeville; two great-grandsons; one son-in-law; and three brothers, Eduardo Estrada of Gonzales, Adan Estrada and Ernesto Estrada, both of Beeville.
Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Angelus Funeral Home with a rosary recited there at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Lukose Thirunellitaranbil officiating. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were David Orozco, John Posada, Noe Cano, Marcus DelBosque, Andy Garza and Prajedes Brandon Garza.

Mr. Jackson
Richard Wayne Jackson, 48, of George West died on Tuesday, May 29, 2007.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1958, in Hobbs, N.M., to Donnie Gene and Elizabeth Kay Hardison Jackson. He graduated from Weed High School in Weed, N.M., in 1976 and married Sarah Johnson in Las Lunas, N.M., on Feb. 17, 1989. He was an oilfield construction worker and a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jackson of George West; three sons, Levi Wayne (Jamie) Jackson of Hobbs, N.M., Lewis Cole (Jennifer) Jackson of Pettus, and Matthew Joseph (Kristen) Buehler of Corpus Christi; one grandson, Brandon Matthew Buehler of Corpus Christi; his parents, Donnie and Kay Jackson of Millers View; one brother, Terry Dean (Lisa) Jackson of George West; two sisters, Donna Kay (Edmond) Loya of Abilene and Debbie Jean (Tommy) Jones of Artesia, N.M.; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Phyllis Johnson, two sisters-in-law, Anita (Joe) Diaz an Melissa (Earl) Ingersoll and one brother-in-law, Michael Johnson, all of Albuquerque, N.M.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in George West. Funeral services were held there at 10 a.m. Friday with Rev. Pat Traxler officiating.

Mrs. Arnold
Dolly Ann Arnold, 83, of Beeville died on Sunday, May 27, 2007.
She was born on July 17, 1923, in Austin to Benjamin Bryant “Jake” and Sarah Ward Wiggins Jarmon. She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. On July 5, 1941, she married James C. Arnold in Corpus Christi. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one daughter, Sarah Jean Jacobs and husband Steve of Boulder, Colo.; one son, James Carter Arnold Jr. and wife Anna Mari of Beeville; five grandchildren, Dru Jacobs, Tyler Jacobs, Amanda Ann Arnold, Amelia Rose Arnold and Alexandra Mari Arnold.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Adrian Amaya officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Philip’s Episcopal Church General Fund.

Mrs. Barrier
DeLoris Cooke Barrier, 71, of Giddings died on Sunday, May 20, 2007.
She was born on Oct. 21, 1935, to Mark and Frieda Erler Cooke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Bill Cooke of Bloomington.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Barrier; two sons, David Barrier and wife Regina and Benton Barrier, both of Elgin; two stepsons, Billy Barrier of Austin and Tracy Barrier of Karnes City; two grandchildren, Sabrina and Michael Barrier of Elgin; one brother, Emmett Cooke of San Antonio; one sister, Joyce Cooke of Beeville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Jones Funeral Home in Elgin. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, at Elgin Cemetery with Rev. Mark Nygard officiating.
Arrangements were by Jones Funeral Home in Elgin.
Mr. Camargo
Arturo V. Camargo, 84, formerly of Skidmore, died on Saturday, May 26, 2007.
He was born on July 8, 1922, in Berclair to Emmanuel and Florentina Villarreal Camargo. He was a United States Army World War II veteran and was retired from NAS Chase Field as a painter. He was a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Isabel Lara Camargo; one son, Arturo Camargo Jr.; and one brother, Enrique Cantu.
Survivors include one daughter, Angie Constante and husband Guadalupe of Brookport, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Eliza Markham of Arkansas and Elia Pruitt of Brookport, Ill.; two grandchildren, Aaron and Kaitlyn Constante; four step-grandchildren, Michael Castaneda, Derrick Pruitt, Lisa Markham and Deborah Markham; two great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Adolfo Camargo and Jose Garcia, both of Beeville, and Daniel Garcia of Bloomington, Ill.; seven sisters, Herminia Lara, Dora Gonzales, Sara Gonzales and Guadalupe Gonzales, all of Skidmore, Lucia Garza and Lorenza Salinas, both of Beeville, and Baudelia Hanson of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited there at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Skidmore. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.

Roberto Cuevas, 52, of Victoria and formerly of George West, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2007.
He was born May 25, 1955, in Beeville to Esteban M. and Olivia Lane Cuevas. He was a heavy equipment operator and a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Olivia Lane Cuevas.
Survivors include his wife, Angie Cuevas of Victoria; one son, Robert Cuevas Jr. and wife Tammy of Round Rock; three daughters, Belinda Cuevas, Sabrina Cuevas and Lisa Firova and husband Alfred, all of Victoria; 12 grandchildren; his father, Esteban M. Cuevas of George West; two brothers, Estevan Cuevas Jr. of Austin and Ernest Ray Cuevas of Angleton; eight sisters, Adela Lane of Beeville, Ninfa Cuevas and Juana Cuevas, both of Round Rock, Mary (Arthur) Medina of El Campo, Sylvia (Mario) Garcia of Houston, Esmeralda Cuevas of Corpus Christi, Tina (James) Cuevas of George West and Elda Lane of Minnesota.
Visitation was to be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, with a rosary to be recited there at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. George Catholic Church with Father Joseph Olikkarra officiating. Interment will follow at George West Cemetery.

Mr. Kanak
Joseph “Joe” Raymond Kanak, 63, of Pettus died on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
He was born on Nov. 24, 1943, in Yoakum, to Louis and Emily Munsch Kanak. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a lifelong resident of Pettus.
He was preceded in death by his father; and three brothers, Freddie J. Kanak, Adolph F. Kanak and Alouis Joseph Kanak.
He is survived by his mother, Emily Kanak of Pettus; three brothers, Tommy (Barbara) Kanak of Kenedy, A.J. (Mildred) Kanak of Pettus and Dan (Pat) Kanak of Houston.
A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Funeral Mass was celebrated there at 10:30 a.m. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hallettsville at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Pallbearers were Kody, Clinton, Kevin, David, Larry, Robert and Gary Kanak and Roger Hership.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pettus.
Arrangements were by Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.
Mrs. Smejkal
Rose Frances Targac Smejkal, 87, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2007.
She was born on June 29, 1919, in Yoakum, to John and Antonio Peters Tarjac. In April of 1937, she married Frank A. Smejkal. Mrs. Smejkal was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. She served in many organizations through her church and Bee County. They include the Altar Society, Mother’s Club of St. Joseph, Vigil Society, KJCT Catholic Women Fraternal of Texas, Czech Heritage Society, Autumn Dance Club, and a member of the Tynan Recreation Hall. She was a woman of wisdom, and shared that wisdom with everyone she came in contact with. She lived a life based on her faith in God, and exemplified that through her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband; one granddaughter; one great granddaughter; and a son-in-law.
The loving family that survives her includes three sons, August Smejkal and wife Evelyn of Beeville, Frank Smejkal of Corpus Christi, Johnny Smejkal and wife Dorothy of Beeville; four daughters, Barbara Van Allen and husband Allen of Bastrop, Linda Ford and husband Glenn of Beeville, Brenda Mills and husband Larry of Beeville, and Sandra McCoy and husband Dr. Pat McCoy of Skidmore; 26 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 22 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Louise Smejkal of Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. There was continued visitation on Monday, May 28, 2007, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Mrs. Stanton
Dee Stanton, 87, of Kenedy and formerly of Corpus Christi, died on Friday, May 25, 2007, at his residence.
He was born on March 11, 1920, in Sandia to Myrtle Smith and Calvin Emmitt Stanton. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Stanton was a welder for Great Southern Chemical Company in Corpus Christi for many years before becoming a metal trades teacher for George West ISD, where he taught until his retirement in 1985. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Dean Stanton.
Survivors include one daughter, Shirley (Terry) Robinson of Dallas; two stepdaughters, Alicia (Ronnie) Wieding of Karnes City and Debbie (Casey) Portwood of Sugar Land; two sons, Gerald (Glenda) Stanton of Corpus Christi and Collin (Bonnie) Stanton of Dickinson; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held there on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Aubrey Stanton and Rev. Randy Stanton officiating. Interment followed in the Pawnee Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Wieding, Casey Portwood, Robert Roach, Scott Roach, Jermey Stanton, Bradley Stanton and Randy L. Stanton.
Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to South Texas Children’s Home.
