Mrs. Cox
Joyce Elaine Natho Cox, 76, of Beeville died on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, in a local nursing home.
She was born on Oct. 17, 1929, in Bee County to Maggie McGuill and Paul Natho. She was a nurse, a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Beeville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Maggie Natho; her husband, J.D. Cox; and one son, Joe D. Cox Sr.
Survivors include two sons, Leo Newman of Oregon and William Cox of Coon Rapids, Minn.; two daughters, Mary Ann Cox of Alice and Betty Jean Brown of Beeville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held there at 9 a.m. Friday with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Special music will be “The Old Rugged Cross,” “A Closer Walk With Thee” and “Softly and Tenderly.” Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Dr. Forks
Dr. John “Sock” Frederic Forks, 62, of Boerne died on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, after a long battle with colon cancer.
He was born Dec. 3, 1943, to Rhoda and Louis Forks.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis, and his brother, Paul.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Forks; three children, Jason Forks and wife Kara, Kris Forks and wife Jenny and Kacey Forks; five grandchildren, Grayson, Avery, Maddox, Hallie and Tristan; his mother, Rhoda Forks; two sisters, Joan Esparza and Cathy Naylor; three brothers, Tom, David and Joe Forks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in San Antonio with Rev. Msgr. James Henke officiating. Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.
In lieu of floral contributions, the family requests that those wishing to send flowers would instead schedule routine physical exams to avoid colon cancer.
Arrangements were made by Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio.
Mr. Garza
Enrique Garza, 70, of Skidmore died on Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at his residence.
He was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on Oct. 22, 1935, to Juanita Davila and Eugenio Garza. He was a mechanic, welder and performed presser maintenance. He was employed by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. He was Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Genoveva Rosales Garza of Skidmore; seven daughters, Christina (Pablo) Lara of Wichita Falls, Kathy (Juan) Lara of Victoria, Teresa Garza of Corpus Christi, Monica (Antonio) Ruiz of South Carolina, Araceli (Marcus) Gutierrez, and Ruth, Sandra and Adriana Garza, all of Corpus Christi; three sons, Enrique (Sahara) Garza of Mexico, Fernando Garza and Oscar (Lydia) Garza, both of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Alicia Garza and Rosa Guadalupe Garza, both of Monterrey, Mexico; one brother, Ernesto Garza of Houston; 34 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Eutimio Garza, 70, of Beeville died on Friday, Aug. 25, 2006.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1936, in Skidmore to Dominga Morales and Hijinio Garza. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a foreman for Bay Construction in Corpus Christi and was a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rita Garza; one sister, Genoveva Naranjo; one stepson, Donald Bonham Jr.; and one brother, Alfredo Garza.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bonham of Beeville; four sons, Joe Garza and wife Elizabeth, Martin Garza, Ray Garza, and Robert Garza and wife Melva, all of Beeville; four daughters, Dominga Garza of Beeville, Guadalupe Garza and Diana Garza, both of Corpus Christi, Denise Garza of Fort Stockton; one stepson, Rodney Lee Bonham of Beeville; two brothers, Erasmo Garza of Robstown and Ramiro Garza of Beeville; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home with rosary recited there at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.
Pallbearers were Martin Garza Jr., Robert Garza Jr., Augustine Rodriguez III, Jason Rodriguez, Joe Garza Jr. and Jerry Garcia. Honorary pallbearers were Jacob Garza and Justin Garcia.

Mr. Hoff
L.J. Hoff, 86, of Pettus died on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
He was born on April 21, 1920, in Pawnee to Lola Looney and Tom Hoff. He was retired in 1978 from Coastal States where he was a lab technician. After his retirement, he ran cattle. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Hoff was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Jimmie Lee Brightman Hoff, on Feb. 12, 1999.
Survivors include one son, Ronnie (Rachel) Hoff of Pettus; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy. Funeral services were held there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Don Hessong officiating. Interment followed at Pawnee Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Hart, Glen Hagerman, Les Stern, Donnie Jenkins, A.J. Kanak and Bobbin Gayle.

Mr. Lopez
Fred Lopez, 71, of Refugio died on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Refugio Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Galveston on Jan. 4, 1935, to Joaquina Ramirez and Francisco Lopez. On Feb. 13, 1957, he married Abelia Tobar in Refugio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Gary Lopez.
Survivors include his wife, Abelia Tobar Lopez of Refugio; one son, Rene Lopez of Dallas; two sisters, Mary Perez of Corpus Christi and Esperanza Moya of Galveston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Refugio. Funeral Mass was celebrated there at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Phillip Panackal officiating. Private burial was to follow.
Mr. Botello
Pablo Botello, 45, of Beeville, died on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006.
He was born on Aug. 6, 1961, in Beeville to Sofia Yzaguirre Botello and Camillo Botello. He was a contractor and fence builder. He was Catholic.
Mr. Botello is survived by his mother, Sofia Botello of Beeville; four brothers, Father Camillo Botello Jr., M.S.F., Nieves Botello, Gilbert Botello and Joe Botello, all of Beeville; two sisters, Mary Jane Cuellar and Sylvia Ann Botello, both of Kenedy; one half-brother, Antonio Sepeda of Chicago, Ill.; and his maternal grandmother, Flora Yzaguirre of Beeville.
Visitation was to be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited there at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Camillo Botello officiating. Interment will follow at Evangelico Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gilbert Botello, Joe B. Botello, Adrian Zamora, Matthew Botello, Marty Botello and John Edward Gomez.

Mr. Massengale
Samuel Ernest Massengale of San Antonio died on Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, after a long illness.
He was born in Pettus to Fannie Copeland and Louis W. Massengale. He graduated from high school in San Antonio in 1934. In 1937, he married Barbara and they moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as a civilian mail clerk. Mr. Massengale joined the U.S. Navy and spent time in the Pacific Theater of War, on the Island of Guadalcanal, and as part of the occupying force in Japan. During his naval career, he started baseball leagues in almost all of his duty stations, helping to keep morale high. He became a member of the Umpires Association after retiring from the Navy and umpired at every level, well into his 70s.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Max Massengale; one sister, F. Mavis Chapman; and his wife of 57 years, Barbara Ann Massengale.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Ireland and Doris D. Kinsey, both of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Josette L. Sims of Florida, Kathryn E. Burnett of Arizona, Wayne E. Burnett and Vanessa G. Ireland, both of San Antonio; two brothers, L. Wayne Massengale of Beeville and Van Emerson Massengale of Henderson.
A full military honors service will be held at Fort Sam Houston at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Chaplain John Payne officiating.

Mrs. Berninger
Cathryn Gerdes Berninger, 91, of Beeville died here on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006.
She was one of four children and was born on Aug. 26, 1915, in Halletts-ville to Blanche (Aldridge) and Hubert Charles Gerdes. She was a church worker and homemaker. She enjoyed a long career as an executive secretary with Humble Oil & Refining Company, now known as Exxon Corporation, in both Corpus Christi and Houston. She was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, where she was a member of The Women of St. Philip’s. She was also a member of the Wednesday Luncheon Club, Beeville Women’s Bible Study Group, Beeville Art Association, Exxon Annuitant’s clubs of Corpus Christi and Victoria, and of The Fun Lunch Bunch of Houston (a group of 13 friends retired from Exxon).
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Wynn Bernard Berninger, in 1978.
Mrs. Berninger is survived by one nephew, Dr. Dick Charles Gerdes of Albuquerque, N.M.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Adrian Amaya officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Seaside Memorial Park on Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi.

Mrs. Cristina Barrientes Moreno, age 90, died on Oct. 14, 2006 at the family residence in Beeville.
Mrs. Moreno was born on May 13, 1916 in Gonzales, Texas to the late Apolonio Barrientes and Antonia Acevedo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank Moreno, grandchildren Leonard John Padilla and Thelma Joyce Padilla Sheffield, one sister, Rafaela B. Vela and one brother, Miguel Barrientes.
Survivors include one daughter, Amelia Padilla of Beeville. Grandchildren, Marvin Padilla of Austin and Jeanette (Jeff) Southern of Montgomery, AL, grand daughter-in-law, Diana Trevino Padilla of Austin, great grandchildren, Jeanice (Keith) Newton, Selena (George) Alejo, Leonard Jorrell, Tracy and Leianna Padilla all of Austin, Melissa (Johnny) Priest of San Antonio, Christina Marie and Jeffery Scott Southerland of Montgomery, AL., Ten Great Great Grandchildren, four half brothers, Daniel, Reynaldo Vicente, Ramiro and Pedro Barrientes four half sisters, Teodora B. A Prayer Service was held on Monday at 7:00 P.M. at the Trevino Funeral Home. Funeral Services were conducted at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Trevino Funeral Home, with Pastor Salvador officiating, burial followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
