Salazar
Sister Mary Dorothy Salazar, 68, a sister of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament, died at Incarnate Word Convent on Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, after a long illness.
Sister Dorothy was born on Sept. 22, 1935, in Beeville, the daughter of Juvenal H. and Secunda Vasquez Salazar. She spent her early years in Beeville but graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi. Entering Incarnate Word Convent on Sept. 8, 1950, Sister Dorothy made her first profession of vows on April 19, 1952, and professed perpetual vows on Jan. 5, 1957. She received her bachelor of arts degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin and her master of arts degree in school administration from Texas A&I University-Kingsville.
Her years of ministry included teaching at St. Rose of Lima School, Benavides; Immaculate Conception School, Goliad; Immaculate Conception School, Brownsville; Incarnate Word Academy, Brownsville; Our Lady Star of the Sea School, Port Isabel; Our Lady of Victory School, Beeville; and Cathedral School, Corpus Christi. She served as principal at St. Francis School, Brownsville; Sacred Heart School, Corpus Christi; St. Theresa School, Corpus Christi; Blessed Sacrament School, Laredo; St. Elizabeth School, Alice; St. Patrick School, Corpus Christi; and St. Pius X School, Corpus Christi. Sister Dorothy also taught religious education classes, served in parish ministry and did mission work in Arteaga, Mexico.
Survivors include her sister, Adelaida Gonzalez; a brother, Celestino Salazar, both of Beeville; a sister-in-law, Elia Salazar of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Reception of the body and evening prayer were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Incarnate Word convent Chapel in Corpus Christi. Visitation for the public was held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday. The wake service was held on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Incarnate Word Convent Chapel. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at the chapel. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled through Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service, Corpus Christi.
Stanley
Mary Jeannette (Jean) Stanley, 86, died in Beeville on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Stanley was born in Claiborne County, Tennessee, on April 10, 1918. She had resided in Beeville for the past nine years, moving from Houston when her eyesight failed, to be near her niece and grand-niece. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Beeville.
A graduate of Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., she was a former elementary school teacher and principal, and later was a bookkeeper with H&R Block in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Stanley; her parents, Bertha Rice and Clarence Leslie Wyant, and her sister, Louise Wyant Law.
Survivors include her niece, Jonnie Sneed Jordan and husband Reagan of Beeville; a grand-niece, Ann Gartner of Beeville; a grand-nephew, Reagan Sneed Jordan and wife Tracy of Peoria, Ariz.; and two great-grand-nephews, Christopher Reagan Jordan of San Diego, Calif., and Nicholas Robert Jordan of Peoria, Ariz.
Graveside service and interment at Beeville Memorial Park were held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Duke of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Agricola
Joan A. Agricola, 70, was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 13, 1934, and died on Aug. 3, 2004.
Mrs. Agricola was a schoolteacher for a total of 42 years, retired after 37 years at FMC Elementary School in Beeville, after moving to Houston as a substitute teacher at Cy-Fair ISD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Agricola, in January 1983.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Ryba and husband Emil of Houston; grandchildren, S/Sgt. Matthew Ryba and wife Kristie of Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Miss., and Jennifer Steil and husband Bennett of Conroe. Two great-grandchildren are soon to join the family.
Visitation was to be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home in Houston with the Rev. Pamela Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia.
Arrangements were handled through Brookside Funeral Home-Champions, Houston.
Doubrava
Josephine Doubrava, 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Graveside services will be held today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery.
Ms. Doubrava was born in Bee County on July 24, 1923, to Joe Frank and Annie Helen (Sliva) Doubrava. She was a Baptist and a Skidmore resident. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sister, Annie Mae Cox of Mathis; her nieces and nephews, Linda Henkhaus and husband John, Joe Cox and wife Jo Ann and Sandra Erskine and husband Robert, all of Beeville, and Michael Cox of Corpus Christi.

Jones
Linda Haws Jones, 55, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, in Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi following a long illness.
She was born on Sept. 13, 1948, in Longview. A longtime resident of Bee County, she graduated from Skidmore-Tynan High School in 1967, excelling in basketball and volleyball. She completed a two-year program at Temple Junior College and was the recipient of a full basketball scholarship, uncommon for women during those years. After college she moved to Corpus Christi and was a founding member of Corpus Christi Youth Basketball, previously known as Little Dribblers. She was also instrumental in organizing and developing the women’s AAU basketball program in Corpus Christi.
She donated many years to the organizing of the two programs and was elected to various offices on the managing boards. She coached in both the youth and women’s programs, and after college excelled as a player for approximately 15 years in the AAU women’s program.
Mrs. Jones played in many AAU state tournaments and was recruited to play in three national tournaments. She returned to Bee County in 1985 and coached junior high girls sports and high school volleyball until 1989 at Skidmore-Tynan ISD.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wylie Lee “Buck” Haws, and a nephew, Kevin Lee Haws.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond Jones of Skidmore; children, Andrea Zermeno of Skidmore and Andrew (Abby) Jones of Beeville; her mother, Vera Haws of Skidmore; her brothers, Bucky (Jackie) and Ricky (Valerie) Haws of Skidmore; a sister, Carlyne (Jim) Northam of Beeville; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Galloway Funeral Home. Graveside services will take place today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. in Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, David Perron, Mickey Northam, Jody, Joshua, Jamey, Brandon, Nathan and Jordan Haws.

Schrank
Walter E. Schrank, 95, a retired supervisor for the Texas Highway Department, where he worked for years, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Mr. Schrank lived in Three Rivers for many years and was married to Elsie Schrank for 36 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Schrank, and his mother, Annie Hease.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Schrank; his sons, Walter C. (Marianne) Schrank and Jesse (Edna) Schrank; his stepsons, Lester Miller and Michael Wiede; his daughter, Carol (Dennis) Franco; his grandsons, Jerry and Bobby Schrank, Dwayne Miller and Bryan Wiede; his granddaughter, Lisa Franco; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was born Oct. 29, 1908, in New Braunfels, the son of Otto and Annie (Hease) Schrank.
Visitation was to be held at Roberson Funeral Home on Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held today (Saturday) at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Three Rivers with Norman Sulaica officiating. Burial will follow in the Ray Point Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Three Rivers.
Chapa
Lena (Chapa) Garcia, 92, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.
Mrs. Garcia was born in Anna Rose on June 1, 1912, to Romano and Regina “Pinky” (Weston) Chapa. She was a lifelong resident of George West. She and her husband, Ramiro Garcia Sr., owned and operated the T&T Café in George West for many years. Mrs. Garcia was an active member of the George West American GI Forum Ladies Auxiliary during the 1950s. Her efforts toward various projects greatly benefited the community. As a descendant of the Weston and Chapa families, alongside her family, she contributed to the success of the Chapa Dance Hall (La Posta), one of the first and most popular dance halls in South Texas.
Survivors include two daughters, Narcie (Gene) Secrist of Cedar City, Utah, and Mackey (Chon) Alvarez of George West; a son, Ramiro Jr. (Mary) Garcia of Kirby; three stepchildren, Raul (Ine) Garcia, Griselda Valverde and Edebelia Garza, all of Three Rivers; two sisters, Emilia (Chapa) Franco of Corpus Christi and Otila (Chapa) Martinez of Defiance, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Francisco, Gilberto, Guillermo and Ernesto Chapa; two sisters, Leonor Chapa and Olivia Mandel; and three stepchildren.
A rosary was held Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in George West.
Church services were held Monday, Aug. 2, at St. George Catholic Church in George West with interment following at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chon Alvarez, Randy Garcia, Ruben Alvear, Shawn Ray Alvarez, Jason Alvarez, Josh Likens, Lloyd Wientjes and Bobby Cuevas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Live Oak County Boys & Girls Club.

Crews
Duane Crews, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
He was born in Bee County on Feb. 7, 1934, to Jesse and Lenora (Hoff) Crews. He was an educator/teacher and farmer/rancher. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and graduated from Texas A&I. He was a member of Pawnee Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Carroll Crews.
Survivors include his mother, Lenora Hoff Crews of Victoria; three daughters, Chiara (Calvin) Blaschke of Three Rivers, Phyllis (Clint) Adams of Hebbronville and Susan (Mark) Morris of Normanna; five grandchildren, Brittney Adams, Mandy and Colten Morris, Corey Blaschke and Brooke Moore; a sister, Iris (Lane) Rodgers of Victoria; and a brother, Dr. Lance Crews of Temple.
Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at the Pawnee Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Armstrong officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ross Crews, Clayton Crews, Scott Rodgers, Lane Rodgers, Corey Blaschke, Eugene Vander Stucken, Tommy Hensley and L.J. Lyne.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brittney Adams, Mandy and Colten Morris and Brooke Moore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Texas Children’s Home.

McDonald
Debra Kay “Sissy” McDonald went to be with our Lord on August 1, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer, she was surrounded by her loved ones. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.
Born in San Angelo, Texas on October, 23, 1953, she leaves behind the love of her life, Robert Jarrett of Beeville, daughter Tracy Kay (Sean) Calley; her grandson and pride and joy, Hunter all of Corpus Christi; mother, Jo Etta Eubanks of Mathis; sister, Dr. Bobbie Jo Meyer of Beeville; brother, Bruce McDonald of Dinero; niece, Keri Garza of Laredo; nephew, Price Meyer of Beeville; as well as many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Ray McDonald, and her nephew, Nolan Ray McDonald both of San Angelo, Texas.
She was born and raised in San Angelo. Attended school there, and moved to Corpus Christi in 1968. In 1972 she graduated from Ray High School. She worked for Central Power & Light Company and Jobber’s Warehouse. In 1994, she moved to Beeville, Texas and was a dental assistant and homemaker. Sis was an avid chili cooker and won several area chili cook-offs while attaining enough points one year to compete at Terlingua. She will always be admired for her love of animals and her tender heart to care for them. She also loved plants and gardening.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Galloway & Sons chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel with Rev. Ben Drewry officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Odem, TX.

The family wishes t express their deepest appreciation to Robert for his loving care and devotion to Debra in her final year.
