T.M. HUGHES
T.M. Hughes, Jr., 73 of Celina passed away Friday, April 23 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple.
Services, held Monday April 26 at the First United Methodist Church in Celina, were conducted by Rev. Glenn Blackmon and Reverend Doug Miller.
Interment was in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas under the direction of Cantrell Funeral Home of Celina.
He was born September 18, 1925 in Prosper, son of the late T.M. and Oberia Johnson Hughes.
He married Mary Ann McKnight, September 8, 1948 in Celina.
A retired Mobil consignee, real estate broker, and owner of Hughes Insurance Agency in Celina, Mr. Hughes was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Marines, and was awarded the Purple Heart for military service on Iwo Jima.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Celina, Metroplex Marines, 5th. Marine Division, military Order of the Purple Heart, H. Battery 13th. Marines, and Survivors of Iwo Jima.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Celina, one son, T.M. Hughes III M.D. of Houston, one daughter, Terry Lee Robbins of Round Rock, two brothers, Jim of Prosper and Jack of Katy, and one sister, Jerry Gentle of Plano.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Leslie and Lauren Hoff, Kennon Robbins, all of Round Rock, Catherine, Rebecca, Rachel, Ellen, and T. Matthew Hughes, all of Houston.
Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church in Celina or to the charity of choice.
MARVIN CANFIELD
Marvin Canfield of Frisco passed away Friday, April 23 at North Central Medical Center in McKinney.
Services were held Sunday, April 25, at Cantrell Funeral Chapel, Frisco with interment in Little Elm Cemetery.
He was born August 12, 1930 in Frisco, the son of the late Elvin and Mary Lou Bristow Canfield. He married Ruby Jo Vandeventer, August 2, 1956 in Marietta, Oklahoma, and she preceded him in death November 3, 1988.
He was a retired custodian with the Richardson ISD.
Mr. Canfield is survived by sons Donald Canfield of Frisco and Bobby Canfield of Little Elm, and daughter Ann Canfield of Frisco.
He is also survived by brothers Billy Ray Canfield and Ronald Dean Canfield, both of Frisco, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Betty Morgan, of Carrollton, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
HARRIS PANNELL
Velma Harris Pannell passed away at McCuistion Medical Center in Paris Monday, April 26 after a lengthy illness.
Services were held at the Cantrell Funeral Chapel in Frisco Wednesday, April 28, with interment at Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville.
Mrs. Pannell, the daughter of the late Samuel Emmett Harris and Hattie Williams Harris, was born May 13, 1912 in Round Grove, Denton County, just south of Lewisville.
She attended school in Round Grove, and later attended Lewisville School.
She married J.E. Pannell, Jr. October 17, 1931, and they were married 61 years.
He preceded her in death August 29, 1993.
A long time Frisco community resident, she had been residing in Honey Grove with her daughter and son-in-law.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Honey Grove, and was a beloved housewife, mother, and grandmother.
She had served as a Sunday School teacher at the Camey Baptist Church, and was a friend to many.
Mrs. Pannell served as an Avon Representative for 36 years.
Survivors include daughter Norma Joyce Burt and son-in-law Joe Burt of Honey Grove, grandson Dr. Randall J. Burt and wife, Amy Burt of Flower Mound, sister Naomi Goodnight of Telephone, and many nieces and nephews.
ROBERT "SHORTY" "BO" NICHOLS
Robert “Shorty” “Bo” Nichols, 81, of Gainesville died September 27, 1999 at his residence.
Services, conducted by Rev. Jerry Davis, minister of First Baptist Church, Collinsville and Rev. Larry Huffman, minister of Grace Friendship Church, Gainesville were held September 30 at Clement-Keel Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville.
Born July 11, 1918 in Thackerville, Oklahoma to Christopher and Bell Allen Nichols, he married Mamie Louella Morris December 23, 1938 in Marietta, Oklahoma.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the Bass Club.
Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife, Mamie Lou Nichols, sons, Robert (Sandra) Nichols, Jr., Gainesville and Sam (Kelly) Nichols of Denton, daughters, Jane (Jim) Wagner, Denton, Patsy (Phil) Christie, McKinney, and Sue Comer of Gainesville.
Also surviving are one brother, Frank Nichols of Baltimore, Md. and one sister, Josie Ellis of Gainesville, sisters in law, Ruby Nichols, Gladys Nichols, and Billie Nichols, all of Gainesville, 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Melvin, Lloyd, and Jearl Nichols, three sisters, Selma Smith, Cecil Owens, and Faye Covington, and a granddaughter, Babete Nichols.
Pallbearers were Jeff Nichols, Shane Nichols, Nick Nichols, Warren Christie, Derrell Comer, and David James.
Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Richardson, Rich Leddon, Jey Sanmugam, and Rodney Fuller.
The family requests memorials be made to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
STANLEY ZMORZYNSKI
Stanley Zmorzynski died September 26, 1999, at the age of 78, at his Frisco residence.
Rosary was held September 29 at Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel in Frisco.
Mass of a Christian Burial was conducted by Father Leon Duesman at Cantrell Funeral Chapel, September 30. Interment was in Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco.
He was born August 24, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late Bronislaw and Helen Bojanowska Zmorzynski. He married Henrietta Guzowski February 16, 1947 in East New York.
Mr. Zmorzynski was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Frisco, a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy, and he was a riggers and machinery remover.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Zmorzynski, and his son, Stanley J. Zmorzynski, both of Frisco. Also, two sisters, Lucy Yuschiak, Long Island, N.Y. and Mary Courtney, Massachusetts, and four grandchildren, Steven Joseph and Pamela Marie Zmorzynski and Marston Thomas and Corinthia Ann Monroe.
ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF GARY BURNS
James Gary Burns, 43, died Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at his residence in Frisco after a courageous battle with cancer.
Traditional fire service funeral ceremonies were at 2 p.m. Friday, September 24 at the First Baptist Church in Frisco with more than 1,000 family members and friends attending.
Evangelist Keith Craft of Covenant Church in Carrollton officiated with the eulogy by Burns’ longtime friend Frisco Fire Chief Mack Borchardt.
Interment was in Ridgeview Memorial park in Allen under the direction of Cantrell Funeral Home in Frisco.
Burns was born August 25, 1956 in Port Arthur, Texas, the son of the late James Paul Burns and Gerry Moye Burns.
He met his wife, Linda Hammonds, in Frisco and the two were married February 24, 1979 in Lewisville.
Burns, who was Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Frisco at the time of his death, had been with the department since 1988 when he entered the first Frisco Fire Academy. He and his wife were also two of the first five Fire Department personnel to attend paramedic school.
He was a civic leader, a former Frisco City Council member, a charter member of the Frisco Rotary Club and longtime owner and operator of Frisco’s Snap-E-Jack convenience store for many years.
He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Frisco, a Freemason and a Third Degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Burns; two daughters, Crystal Sherilyn Burns and Kristen Ashley Burns; stepson Billy Scott Buckaloo; mother, Gerry Burns; all of Frisco; a sister, Cindy Burns Hooks of Port Neches; close friend Jason Craig of Australia and two nephews.
Pallbearers included fellow officers Assistant Chief Don Fernan-dez, Captain Lee Glover, Captain Paul Siebert, Lieutenant Chico Barrera, Lieutenant Chris Beck, Lieutenant Todd Humbarger, and Lieutenant Neil Self.
Additional pallbearers were all firefighter/paramedics including Tony Woods, Shane Armstrong, David Ferguson, Phillip Forbus, Travis Level, Brian Lynn and Dwight Vandergrift.
Honorary pallbearers included all Frisco Fire Department personnel.
Wayne W. Kleinman
Wayne W. Kleinman of McKinney died October 24 at North Central Medical Center in McKinney.
He was born June 13, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Sheldon M. and Rosemary J. Wayne Kleinman. He married Karen Mak February 22, 1970 in DeMotte, Indiana.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McKinney, veteran of Vietnam serving in the Army, and was a computer analyst.
Services, conducted by Rev. Dennis Morros and Rev. James Dorff, were held October 26 at First United Methodist Church in McKinney. Interment was in Pecan Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cantrell Funeral Home of Frisco.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Kleinman of McKInney; sons Theodore Wayne Kleinman (D’Ann) of Frisco and Timothy John Kleinman of Austin; sister, Dana R. Boyden of Councils Bluff, Iowa; and granddaughter, Sydney D’Ann Kleinman of Frisco.
Rev. M.C. JUSTICE, JR.
Reverend M. C. Justice, Jr., 51, of Celina died October 24, 1999 at Columbia Medical Center in Plano.
He was born November 4, 1947 in Clarksville, the son of M.C. and Mae W. Childs Justice. He married Doris Bruce, August 27, 1999 in Frisco.
Reverend Justice was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in McKinney, Masonic Lodge, and was a maintenance worker.
Services, conducted by Reverend Al Price and Reverend L.E. Mims, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30 at First Baptist Church in Celina. Interment will be in Old Town Cemetery under the direction of Cantrell Funeral Home of Celina.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Justice, parents, M.C. and Mae Justice, all of Celina, and daughter Nekole L. Justice of McKinney. Also, stepsons: Anthony Q. Bruce of New Boston and Christopher M. Bruce of McKinney; stepdaughters, Charlotte M. Mack and Gwendolyn J. Montgomery, both of McKinney; brother, James H. Justice of Plano; sister, Earnestine Jones, of Celina, eight step grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cantrell Funeral Home in Celina.
WILMA (WILLIE) PRATHER
Wilma (Willie) Prather, a devoted mother, grandmother and best neighbor anyone could ask for, died October 26, 1999 at her residence in Dallas.
Mrs. Prather was born May 18, 1916 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William and Josephine Gross Pickard. She was married to Robert L. Prather, and he preceded her in death December 19, 1997. She was a Baptist, and was a retired office manager.
Services, will be held October 29, 2 p.m. at Cantrell Funeral Chapel in Frisco, conducted by Pastor Jack Fleming. Interment will be in Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley DuPree of Dallas and granddaughter, Jennifer (Ryan) Bell of Frisco. Mrs. Prather was looking forward to the birth of her great-grandchild in March 2000.
