Geisler
Effie Marie Zube Geisler, 92, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Austin.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, followed by funeral services there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Stanley Geisler officiated. Special music included “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace,” with organist Dorothy Geisler. Burial followed at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Stan Geisler Jr., Jim Geisler, Al and Phillip Golden, Stan Geisler Sr. and Wayne Geisler. Honorary pallbearers were Randy Geisler, Oliver Fetzer and Alex de Winter.
Mrs. Geisler was born in Waco on Nov. 29, 1909, to Charles Otto and Agnes (Muchow) Zube. She married Ben Geisler on Dec. 22, 1929, in Houston. The couple moved to Beeville in 1942 and opened Geisler Food Store on North St. Mary’s Street, which they operated until 1963. Mrs. Geisler was a homemaker and a member of Faith Lutheran. She also belonged to the Beeville Garden Club, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Soroptomist Club, Ladies Auxiliary of Texas Retail Grocers Association and the Pink Ladies. She was active in Meals on Wheels and many other church and community affairs.
Her husband, Ben, preceded her in death on June 1, 1985.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Geisler and wife Dorothy of Birmingham, Ala., and the Rev. Stanley Geisler and wife Janice of Azle; one daughter, Mary Ann Golden and husband Alvin of Austin; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Gonzales
Robert “Bobby” Gonzales, 54, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in San Antonio, following a long illness.
He was a retired Air Force veteran and a Catholic. He was born and raised in Beeville and attended A.C. Jones High School.
Mr. Gonzales is survived by his wife, Linda Mae Gonzales; his daughter, Melissa Houston; two sons, Michael and Robert Lee Gonzales, all of San Antonio; his father, Lupe Gonzales of Beeville; a sister, Yolanda Chamberlain of Beeville; and five grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Beeville. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Guardian Cremation and Funeral Services, Corpus Christi.
Silvas
Juan S. Silvas Sr., 59, died Sunday, July 28, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock. Graveside services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Mr. Silvas was born June 24, 1943, in Skidmore, to Santiago and Severa (Salinas) Silvas. He was employed as a ranch hand at the Brown Ranch and resided in Beeville. He was a member of the Catholic church.
He is survived by his wife, Emilia Silvas; three sons, Juan M., Santiago M. and Lupe Ernesto Silvas; three brothers, Santiago, Victor and Pablo Silvas, all of Beeville; and two sisters, Margarita Silvas and Lupita DeHoyos, both of Goliad.

Rosalba Verduzco, 61, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at her daughter’s residence.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Felipe Ramirez Jr., Willie Almaraz, Juan Jose de la Garza, Jorge Avila Sr., Jorge Avila Jr. and Jose Angel Lopez.
Mrs. Verduzco was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, on Sept. 14, 1940, to Concepcion and Aurelia (Rojas) Martinez. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She is survived by her husband, Carlos Verduzco Sr. of Beeville; three daughters, Maricruz (Martin) Sauceda of Eagle Lake, Sylvia (Adolfo) Villarreal of Harlingen and Griselda (Felipe) Ramirez of Beeville; a son, Carlos (Oneida) Verduzco Jr. of Beeville; and nine grandchildren, Felipe Jr., Carlos A. and Roberto Ramirez, Beathriz and Bernadette Villarreal, Martin and Mario Sauceda and Kevin and Eddie Paz.
Noriega
Alberto Noriega Jr., 58, died Thursday, July 25, 2002.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mr. Noriega was born Nov. 15, 1943, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Alberto Noriega Sr. and Maria De La Torre Diaz Noriega. He was a laborer and a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Valadez Noriega of Beeville; his mother, Maria De La Torre Diaz Noriega of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; four sons, Leopoldo, Jose, Miguel and Alberto Noriega III, all of Beeville; and two grandchildren.
Baldwin
Harvey Cecil Baldwin, 73, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Houston.
Mr. Baldwin was a highly active member of the Three Rivers community, and had recently retired from First State Bank of Three Rivers, where he was executive vice president. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, American Cancer Society, the Boys and Girls Club board of directors, First State Bank board of directors and Knights of Columbus, attaining the fourth degree. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a former Grand Knight.
Mr. Baldwin was born on Oct. 27, 1928, to Harry and Zella (Fought) Baldwin, in Galesburg, Kan. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Nora Ann Hayden on Aug. 18, 1951, in Corpus Christi.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy Grant Baldwin.
Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Nora Ann Baldwin of Three Rivers; a son, Wayne Harvey Baldwin of New Braunfels; a daughter, Linda Ann Hill-Smith and husband Michael R. of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Corey Wayne and Lane Harvey Baldwin, Kelsey Alexandra and Shelby Lynette Hill and Hayden Smith (to be born Aug. 14); two brothers, Riley Baldwin of Galesburg, Kan., and Ralph Baldwin of Erie, Kan.; six sisters, Ruby Wilcox of Pompano Beach, Fla., Ruth Arseneault of Lynwood, Colo., Ada Lee Landreau of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Alma Oberly of Tempe, Ariz., Opal St. Claire of Solomans, Md., and Anna Venneman of Walnut, Kan.
Visitation was held Sunday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart, with Fathers Piotr Gajda and Brendan Ashe officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi. Pallbearers were the Knights of Columbus.

Fuentes
Cruz R. Fuentes Sr., 71, of Corpus Christi died Sunday, July 21, 2002.
Mr. Fuentes was born in Beeville. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a former employee of Wencar, Inc. and Kroger Grocery. He played semi-professional baseball with the Blue Jays. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Mr. Fuentes is survived by his wife, Paz Fuentes of Corpus Christi; his daughter, Linda Mae Gonzales of San Antonio; three sons, Cruz Fuentes Jr. of George West, Marc Fuentes of Corpus Christi and Michael Fuentes of Alice; two sisters, Jo Ethel Valdez of Austin and Rosa Alaniz of Sugar Land; a brother, Luis Fuentes Jr. of Enterprise, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Hernandez
Maria Hernandez, 68, died Sunday, July 21, 2002.
She was born on Jan. 25, 1934, in Berclair to Quirino and Luz (Arredondo) Moya. She was a housewife and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerardo Hernandez, a son, Gerald Hernandez, and her parents.
She is survived by one son, Rick (Patricia) Hernandez of Aransas Pass; two sisters, Trine Medina of Beeville and Manuela Rodriguez of Kenner; a brother, Juan Moya of Berclair; and one grandchild, Ellanisa Hernandez of Aransas Pass.
A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock at the same location with the Rev. Moises Gonzales officiating. Burial followed in Berclair Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy Amador, Pete Amador, Joe Mata, Abel Suniga, Rene Rodriguez and Cesario Moya. Honorary pallbearers were Jay Baldez and Joe, Eloy and Juan Moya.
Lewis
Judge Marion M. “Mack” Lewis, 74, of Victoria died Friday, July 5, 2002.
He was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Beeville to the late Thomas Armstrong and Carra Lou Robinson Lewis. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School with the class of 1944, living here until he left for college at the University of Texas in July 1944.
In January 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the Manhattan District Engineers at Los Alamos, N.M. He took part in the atomic bomb tests in the South Pacific in the summer of 1946 and attained the rank of technician, 4th grade, which is the equivalent of a sergeant.
Lewis returned to UT in September 1947 and obtained his law degree in August 1950. He was in private practice until June 1965, when he moved to Victoria to join the law firm of Guittard, Henderson, Jones and Lewis. By April 1980, the firm’s name was changed to Lewis and Kelly.
Lewis served as county attorney of Goliad County for 11 years and as city attorney in Goliad for seven years. He also served on the board of trustees of the Goliad Independent School District for two years. He was elected to the Victoria City Council in 1971 and served as mayor pro tem until 1973.
In May 1981, Lewis was appointed as the first judge of the newly created 267th Judicial District Court, and served until Jan. 1, 1983. He rejoined his old law firm on Jan. 1, 1985, but later resumed his private practice. He held the position of the 135th District Court judge from August 1988 until he retired on Dec. 31, 1996. He was remembered as a meticulous lawyer and a courteous, fair and professional judge with the lawyers who practiced before him.
Lewis was a member of the Goliad Presbyterian Church and was ordained as a deacon and elder in the Presbyterian church. He also taught Bible classes at First Presbyterian Church in Victoria for more than 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Adair Lewis; a daughter, Roxanne Lewis Miller of Fayetteville, N.C.; a son, Tom Adair Lewis of Sacramento; a sister, Annie Lewis Lucas of Victoria; and three grandchildren.
Services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Victoria and burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery there.
Memorials may be made to the Goliad Presbyterian Church Youth Scholarship Fund.
Longoria
Eloisa R. Longoria, 76, died Sunday, July 21, 2002.
A prayer service was held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Monte Del Olivar Christian Church. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at the same location, with the Revs. Jesse De La Garza, John Carmona, Jimmy Longoria Jr. and Samuel Montoya officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were her sons, Eliasar, Jimmy, Rey, Joe, Juan, Ernesto and Ricky Longoria.
Mrs. Longoria was born Feb. 18, 1926, in Goliad to Leonardo and Anita (Martinez) Rodriguez. She was a housewife and a Pentecostal.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Moses Longoria.
She is survived by her husband, Santiago Longoria Sr. of Beeville; three daughters, Mary Lou (Gabriel) Galarza of Ingleside, Frances (Domingo) Leal and Rose Mary (Rey) Martinez, both of Beeville; seven sons, Eliasar (Elvia) Longoria and Rey (Cynthia) Longoria, both of Beeville; Rev. Jimmy (Noemi) Longoria Jr. of San Marcos, Joe (Elizabeth) Longoria of Abilene, Juan (Esmeralda) Longoria of Weslaco, Ernesto (Eva) Longoria of Bryan and Ricky (Vivian) Longoria of Houston; three sisters, Isabel Silva of California, Aurora Salinas of Donna and Luisa Salinas of Odessa; 33 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
