Cypret
Jerry Nuel Cypret, 58, of Whitsett died Monday, May 8, 2000, in San Antonio. He was born Sept. 7, 1941, and married Doris A. Kellner on July 15, 1978, in Pettus.
Mr. Cypret was retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and was an auto shop operator since 1982, moving his business to Whitsett in 1995. He had attended Bee County College.
Mr. Cypret was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fashing.
Survivors include his wife, Doris A. Cypret of Whitsett; his mother, Vera Smith Jones of Pensacola, Fla.; a son, Jerry Cypret Jr. and wife Tina of Lake Penasoffkee, Fla.; a stepson, Rick Pogue of San Antonio; two daughters, Michelle Cypret of Oregon and Mary K. Cypret of Lake Penasoffkee, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Judy Beck and husband Ronnie of Normanna; a half brother, Gary Rutherford of Pensacola, Fla.; a half sister, Linda Runnels of Pensacola; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Rhodes Funeral Home chapel in Karnes City, with the Rev. Dr. Jack C. Bush officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fashing Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Jordon, Bobby Dean Greaves, Archie Hailey, Mike Salvagno, Arlon Retzloff and Sonny Willeford.
DeLeon
Former Pawnee resident Henry DeLeon of George West, 74, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was born July 14, 1925, in Fashing to Pablo and Gregoria (Treviño) DeLeon.
He married Elaine DeLaGarza on May 6, 1945. He was engaged in farming and ranching and was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine DeLeon of George West; a daughter, Betty Aguirre and husband Ronnie of George West; five sons and their wives, Albert and Blanca DeLeon of George West, Bobby and Mary DeLeon, Duffy and Annie DeLeon and Jimmy and Margaret DeLeon, all of Pawnee, and Rickey and Kay DeLeon of Kenedy; a godson, Carl Lundquist and wife Sandra of Kenedy; three sisters, Inez Garcia of Lubbock and Tomasa Reyez and Amelia Sotelo, both of Houston; two brothers, Antonio Davila of Kenedy and Gilberto DeLeon of San Antonio; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Nora Gonzales and Eva Aguilar; and three brothers, Guadalupe and Ubense Davila and Gerardo DeLeon.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Father Zenon Konowalek and Monsignor John Killeen officiating.
Burial followed in De Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Cemetery in Pawnee.
Doubrava
Monica F. Doubrava, 75, of Skidmore died Monday, May 8, 2000, in a Beeville nursing home.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery, with Father John Ayang officiating.
Miss Doubrava was born May 2, 1925, in Cuero to Agnes (Macha) and John Doubrava. She was a retired waitress and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Stanley and Julie Ann Wilkinson, both of Skidmore; three brothers, Jim Doubrava of Victoria, Emil Doubrava of San Antonio and Willie Doubrava of Skidmore; a sister-in-law, Pam Doubrava of Skidmore; and several nieces and nephews.

Garza
Mrs. Carolina “Carrie” Garza, 65, died on Saturday, May 6, 2000. She was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Pettus to Genaro and Emeteria (Salinas) Ochoa. A 1954 graduate of A.C. Jones High School, Mrs. Garza had been employed as the bookkeeper at Reynolds Plumbing and was a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include her husband, Luz Garza Sr.; a daughter, Mary Elva Villarreal and husband Manuel; two sons, Luz Garza Jr. and wife Terry and Benjamin O. Garza and wife Leslie; two sisters, Mary Garza and husband Juan and Teodora Paiz, all of Beeville; and four grandchildren, Marilena, Clarissa, Luz Alejandro and Benjamin Nicolas.
Mrs. Garza was preceded in death on Thursday by her sister, Albertina “Tina” Alvarez.
Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 4 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Ed Couch officiating. Soloist Lupita Amador provided special music.
Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Juan Paiz, Phillip Alvarez, Juan Ricardo Garza, Steve Garza, Joe Mendez and Allen Pearson. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Ray Treviño, Higinio Casarez, Robert Sanchez and Mike Dunn.
Gibson
Ora Lee Hoffman Gibson, 90, died at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
The funeral was conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Galloway & Sons chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Spire officiating.
Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Darrell and Michael Gibson, James R. and Jimmy Harlow, Paul Martin and Phillip Perricone.
Mrs. Gibson was born Feb. 11, 1910, in Hope to Minnie (Smith) and Rudolph Hoffman. She married Arthur Fred Gibson on May 29, 1927, in Edna. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1992. She also was preceded in death by a son, Arthur Gibson; two sisters; and three brothers.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include a son, Howard L. Gibson of Palacios; three daughters, Jewel Smith of San Marcos, Jo Ann Gibson of Mathis and Virginia Harlow of Pasadena; a brother, Davis Hoffman of Edna; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Gutierrez
Margarita Gutierrez, 80, died Sunday, May 7, 2000. She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Berclair to Manuel and Jesusa (Moreno) Cuevas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic church.
Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Treviño of Taft and Celestina Bridge of Beeville; a brother, Esteban Cuevas of George West; two grandchildren, Abelardo and Marissa Gutierrez; and one great-grandchild, Eligio Lee Gutierrez.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with the Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Soloist Lupita Amador provided special music.
Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Robert Cuevas, Jesse Garza, Richard Chapa, Roberto Benavides, Angel Cuevas and Abelardo Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearers were Domingo Garcia, Willie Bridge Jr., Juan Cuevas, Willie Martinez and Felipe Cuevas.
Kubala
Dr. Albert Louis Kubala, 73, of Temple died Saturday, April 29, 2000. He was born June 28, 1926, in Beeville to Albert Louis and Lydia (Mikeska) Kubala. He was a 1943 graduate of A.C. Jones High School and earned his doctorate in psychology from The University of Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He taught at Texas State College for Women and later was a research associate with military contractors. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and was a clerk of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Kubala of Temple; two sons, Alan Kubala of Austin and Steven Kubala of El Paso; two daughters, Elizabeth Kubala of Austin and Kate Martaus of Louisiana; a sister, Clarice Kubala of Temple; and six grandchildren.
The memorial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Morgan’s Point. Donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple.
Richardson
Elizabeth “Beth” Richardson, 72, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in a Corpus Christi hospital.
The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Galloway & Sons chapel, with the Rev. Mac Robinson officiating.
Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Wales, Gene Garcia, Jim Browns, Lucian Jalufka, Jim Weaver Hunt and Erwin Massengale.
Mrs. Richardson was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Hobson to Annie Mae (Cowie) and John A. McClendon. She married John Richardson on June 27, 1957, in Pensacola, Fla. She was a retired secretary at Texas A&I University in Kingsville and had been a real estate broker with Rabe Real Estate. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Allen McClendon.
Survivors include her husband, John Richardson of Beeville; three sons, Terry Brown of Austin, Jerry Richardson of Sugar Land and Jon Richardson of Beeville; a stepdaughter, Janet L. Church of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Eugene and Ross McClendon, both of Three Rivers; and eight grandchildren.

Charles Bruce Searcy, 65, of Maybank died Sunday, May 7, 2000, in Fredericksburg.
The funeral was held at 2 o’clock this afternoon (Wednesday) at the Galloway & Sons chapel, with the Rev. Mike Harrington officiating.
Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jack Dillard, Freddy McPherson, Bill Stanley, Troy Bennett, Doug Howard and Allen Raab.
Mr. Searcy was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Laredo to Margaret B. and Gerald H. Searcy. He was a 1955 graduate of A.C. Jones High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Freer.
Survivors include three sisters, Geraldine Sturm and husband Fritz of Goliad, Frances Kixmueller and husband Russell of Morrison, Mo., and Jane Parkinson and husband Charles of Granite City, Ill.; four brothers and their wives, George L. and Susie Searcy of Freer, Thomas H. and Joan Searcy of Kyle, Ernest J. and Debbie Searcy of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donald and Susan Searcy of Lockhart; and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon L. Searcy, on April 1, 1995.

Former Pettus resident Richard Shaw, 50, of Lake Arthur, La., died Wednesday, May 3, 2000. He was born Aug. 30, 1949, in Bee County to Willie and Hazel (Stuart) Shaw.
Survivors include his wife, Dianna H. Shaw; two daughters, Myra Geheb and Shirley Shaw, both of Lake Charles, La.; three sons, Chad Istre of Gonzales, La., Darren Istre of Roanoke, Va., and Timothy Istre of Jena, La.; four sisters, Willie Zoe Hackney and Mary Ella Steele, both of Pettus, Vera Hale of Beeville and Lorraine Treybig of Port Lavaca; a brother, Gary Shaw of Pettus; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy, with the Rev. Leo Oliver officiating.
Burial followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.
Baugh
Nelda Irene Baugh, 65, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, in Orange Grove.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Mrs. Baugh was born Nov. 11, 1934, in Waverly, Tenn., to Gracie (Collier) and Houston Gutherie Bishop. A resident of Pettus for most of her life, Mrs. Baugh was a member of Lexington Baptist Church in Corpus Christi.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Richard of Tomball and Connie Garner of Orange Grove; three sons, Garry Brown of South Carolina, John E. Brown III of Dayton and John E. Brown IV of Agua Dulce; four brothers, Malcom, Orval, William and Jerry Bishop, all of Tennessee; two sisters, Christine Wilkins of Gatesville and Mary Baggett of Tennessee; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Baugh; a son, Larry; her parents; and a sister, Mildred.
