Anton “Tony” Ventrcek
Anton “Tony” Ventrcek, 74 of Pleasanton, passed away July 12, 2002 in Jourdanton. Mr. Ventrcek was employed by the Heritage Well Service and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Tony is survived by three daughters, Dianna Kay Ventrcek Elbel and husband Ben of Plano, Evelyn Ann Ventrcek Crumbaker of Reno, Nevada and Glynis Gay Ventrcek of Leander; beloved friend Annice Guenther of San Antonio and two grandchildren, Brittany Elbel and Ryan Elbel both of Plano.
Visitation was held July 14, 2002 from 1:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Funeral services were held July 15, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton with Rev. Dawn Silvius officiating. Interment followed in Jourdanton City Cemetery.
Hubert Arthur Lasiter
Hubert Arthur Lasiter, 88, went to be with the Lord July 15, 2002.
He was born on September 3, 1913 to Henry Fielden Lasiter and Mary Ethel Galloway in Grand Saline. He was the youngest of nine children and married the former Myrtle Ann Trees of La Pryor. Hubert was known for his business interest, his honesty and quiet sense of humor that lasted him through the end of his life. He was a member of the Del Rio Masonic Lodge for 56 years and Manor Baptist Church in San Antonio. He was also a member of the Texas Cattleman’s Association.
Hubert was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle in 1962; their 12 year old son, James Howard “Jimmy” Lasiter; his parents; seven siblings and a son-in-law, Colonel William V. Hussey in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Nadine Davis Hook Lasiter; one daughter, Sharon Butler and husband Jim of Boerne; one stepson, Joe D. Hook and wife Louise Belanger of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one stepdaughter, Bettye Hussey of Chesapeake, Virginia; one sister, Ivy Smith of Hobbs, New Mexico; nine grandchildren, Robin Simpson of Fairfield, Blake Cunningham of Euless, Kyle Cunningham and wife Jennifer of Pleasanton, Katherine Pena and husband SSGT Rafael Pena of San Antonio, Cody Cunningham and wife Julie of Frisco, Jason Hook and wife Erika of Austin, Heath Hook and wife Becky of Austin, Elizabeth Hussey of Virginia and 1st LT William John Hussey who is currently serving in Srebrenica, Bosnia; and five great-granddaughters, Sarah, Brittany and Victoria Simpson, Brooke Cunningham and Maya Hook.
Visitation was held July 17, 2002 at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Private graveside services and interment were held July 18, 2002 in Del Rio Masonic Cemetery. A public memorial service followed that afternoon at First Presbyterian Church in Uvalde.

Felix Calvillo Jr.
Felix Calvillo Jr., 69 of Charlotte, passed away July 10, 2002 in San Antonio. He was born May 1, 1933 in Charlotte.
He lived in Charlotte for most of his life, where he made his living working as a ranch hand for the Schraeder and E.W. Wehman ranches.
He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and working with horses. He enjoyed singing to songs like those of Los Alegres De Teran, one of his favorite groups.
Mr. Calvillo was preceded in death by his father, Felix Calvillo Sr.; his mother, Soledad Olivarez and one brother, Ernest Calvillo Sr. He is survived by two sisters, Jesusa Munoz of San Antonio and Ricarda C. Garcia of Pleasanton; two brothers, Refugio Olivares of Austin and Jose Angel Calvillo of Jourdanton and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visitation was held July 12, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was held July 13, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Jourdanton with Rev. Francis McHugh officiating. Interment followed in San Jose Cemetery in Jourdanton.
Serving as pallbearers were Armando Calvillo, Alfred M. Contreras, Paul C. Munoz Jr., Richard B. Leal, Richard Zuniga, Oscar Munoz, Manuel Garcia and Elisandro C. Garcia Jr.
Dr. John David Austin Sr.
Dr. John David Austin Sr., 84, passed away July 17, 2002 at his home in Pleasanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry T. and Bertie Livermore Austin; five sisters; one brother and one son, John David Austin Jr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy O’Neil Austin of Pleasanton; two daughters, Louise Foster of New Braunfels and Linda Spinks and husband Harrell of Austin; daughter-in-law, Nancy Glenn Austin Fetterman and husband Jack of Pensacola, Florida; son-in-law, Carson Foster of Pleasanton; six grandchildren, Amy Foster of Storm Lake, Iowa, Mandy Vyvlecka and husband Dennis of Jourdanton, John Austin III and wife Lori of Pace, Florida, Wayne Foster and wife Heather of Pleasanton, Kevin Austin and wife Julie of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Rebecca Spinks of Austin; four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Blake, Devin and Ashton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held July 20, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton with Rev. John Van Deusen of First Methodist Church in Pleasanton officiating. Musical selections were sung by Betty Telford accompanied by Jodie Hurley. Interment followed in Pleasanton City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Austin III, Wayne Foster, Kevin Austin, Dennis Vyvlecka, Carson Foster and Ted Wayland. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Atascosa Bass Club and members of the 1950s era Pleasanton Little League Organization.

August Erwin Hooge, 81, a life-long resident of Poteet, passed away July 17, 2002 in San Antonio.
He was born August 22, 1920 to Alfonse Hooge and Anna Caroline Ripps Hooge in Poteet.
Mr. Hooge is survived by his wife of 50 years, Augusta Brauchle Hooge of Poteet; one daughter, Judith Gwendolyn Hooge of Pleasanton; four brothers, Louis Anthony Hooge of Poteet, George Emil Hooge of San Antonio, Paul Henry Hooge of San Antonio and Leon David Hooge of Poteet; two sisters, Mary Adeline Stiles of Kingsville and Rosalie May Allsup of Bay City and one granddaughter, Kristin Rochelle Hooge of Pleasanton.
Visitation was held July 21, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 22, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Pleasanton with Msgr. John Wagner officiating. Interment followed in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Pallbearers were Curtis Adams, Ronnie Brauchle, Michael Hooge, Paul Hooge, Philip Hooge, Jim Kindla, Kenneth Montgomery and Mark Veteto.

Jose P. “Lito” Rivera, 28 of Poteet, passed away July 17, 2002 in San Antonio.
He was born January 3, 1974 in Jourdanton.
He is survived by his father, Jose Rivera Sr. of Jourdanton; mother, Gracie Rivera of Poteet; four children, Christopher, Caine, Jarrid and Kyrie all of Poteet; three brothers, Charlie Rivera, Jackie Rivera and Vincent Rodriguez all of Poteet; six sisters, Samantha Rivera, Laura Rivera, Mary Rivera, Terry Rivera, Gillian Rivera and Felicia Rivera; paternal grandparents, Alvaro and Thomasa Rivera and maternal grandparents, Jose Rivera and Magdelena Rivera.
A rosary was recited July 22, 2002 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Funeral services were held July 23, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Poteet with Rev. Felix Avau officiating. Interment followed in First Memorial Park in San Antonio.
Pallbearers were Charlie Rivera, John “Rocky” Castillo, Nancy Lynn Castillo, Jackie Castillo Villa, Paul “Tiger” Rivera and Johnny Ray Jimenez.

Letress Idella Roberts, 84 of Leming, passed away July 22, 2002 in Jourdanton.
She was born January 14, 1918 in Zorn. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Emmett Roberts. She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Ragsdale of Zorn, Helen Adair of Campwood and Loretta Clarkson of Leming; three brothers, Andrew Cochran, James Cochran and Burl Cochran all of Martindale; three sisters, Hezzie Cheatham of Whitsett and Jerlene Hubbard of Austin and 12 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held July 24, 2002 from 2:00 p.m.until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Funeral services will be held July 25, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Leming with William Kindla and Craig Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Tumlinson Cemetery in Leming.

Elvira Torres, age 75, of Poteet, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Jourdanton, Texas. She is survived by her daughters, Elvira Critchely of Poteet, Maria Torres and Adelghia Sisson both of Casa Grande, Arizona and sons, Antonio Torres, Frank Torres of Reno Neveda and George Torres of Bandera. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Luis Almaras of San Antonio, Richard Almaraz and Octaviano Almaras both of Poteet, Benina Luna of San Angelo and Ysidra Rendon and Luisa Barton both of Poteet. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Plreasanton from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, including a prayer service at 7:30pm Monday, March 17, 2003. The funeral service will be at Hurley Funeral Home at 3:00pm Tuesday, March 18, 2003. Interment will be at San Pedro Cemetery in Poteet, Texas.

Roel Jasso, age 40, of Waelder, Texas, passed away Monday, March 17, 2003, in Austin, Texas. He is survived by his father, Armando Jasso; wife, Grace Marie Jasso of Waelder and daughter, Castabela "Cassie" Jasso of Waelder. He is also survived by his sister and brothers, Matiana Woodlee and husband Roy of McCoy, Armando Jasso, Jr. and wife Teresa of San Antonio, Oscar Jasso and wife Elizabeth of Corpus Christi, Jesse Jasso of San Antonio and Javier Jasso of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, including a prayer service at 7:00pm Thursday, March 20, 2003. The funeral service will be at First Baptist Church at 10:00am Friday, March 21, 2003. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Leming, Texas.

John H. Ormand, age 73, of Poteet, Texas, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003, in Jourdanton, Texas. He is survived by his daughters, Julie Allen of Austin and Janice Brown of Colorado. He is also survived by his sisters, Annie Bell Roggenbuck of Poteet and Jessie Mae Simpson of Rocksprings as well as three grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home from 1:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday, March 25, 2003. The funeral service will be at Hurley Funeral Home at 10:00am Wednesday, March 26, 2003. Interment will be at Bluebonnet Hill Memorial Park on Thursday, March 27, 2003 in Colleyville, Texas.
