MERCEDES, TX — Ricardo M. Trevino, Sr., 74, a lifetime resident of Mercedes, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2005 in Harlingen, Texas.
He is survived by his loving family: three daughters: Irene (Rudy) Rodriguez of Mercedes, Texas, Isabel (Bob) Gonzalez of Mercedes, Texas, Rachel Trevino of Mercedes, Texas; three sons: Reynaldo (Doris) Trevino of Harlingen, Texas, Richard (Yvonne) Trevino Jr., of Palmhurst, Texas, Raul (Edwina) Trevino of Mercedes, Texas; one brother: Gregorio (Olivia) Trevino of Mercedes, Texas; one sister: Felicitas (Guadalupe) Gonzalez of Mercedes, Texas; 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Irene Trevino; and his son: Jose Alberto Trevino.
Visitation hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2005 and from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m on Sunday, April 10, 2005, with rosarys prayed on both nights at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, April 11, 2005. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace at 9:30 p.m. for a 10:00 a.m. mass at Sacred Heart catholic Church. Interment with then follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Rudy Rodriguez, Jr., Travis L. Trevino, Arturo Galvan, Frank Salinas, Roger Adame, and Ismael Trevino. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Mr. Trevino was a dedicated and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is dearly loved and missed by all those who knew him.

Joel Mendez
SAN BENITO — Joel Mendez, 21, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord at his family’ s residence Saturday April 9, 2005. He was born in San Benito, Tx October 18, 1983.
Survivors include: his parents Jose Luis and Celia Mendez of San Benito, brother, Jose Luis Mendez, Jr. (Sulema) of Houston, sister, Yvonne Mendez of San Benito, & brother, Juan Carlos Mendez. Also, nieces & nephews, Tristan, Kayla, Jacob, Nayeli, Jeremy, and Brandon and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be 10 am – 9 p.m. today Sunday April 10, 2005 with Rosary Services at 7pm at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel A

Miguel Herrera, Sr.
HARLINGEN — Miguel Herrera, Sr., 53, entered the Lord’s Kingdom on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Herrera was a lifelong resident of Harlingen and was preceded in death by his father Juan Herrera, Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Guadalupe Herrera, his mother Socorro Herrera, children Debbie Martinez, Rosie Sanford, Miguel Herrera, Jr., Jesse Herrera and Monica Herrera, 11 grandchildren, sisters Delia, Remes, Rosa, Nora, Socorro and Josie, brothers Juan, Roy, Ricky, George, Tomas, Jesus and Jose and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today, Monday, April 11, 2005 from 10 A.M. until 9 P.M. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of peace with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 P.M. The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 9:30 AM for a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian burial at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Pedro Briseno as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park in Harlingen, TX.
Pallbearers will be Miguel Herrera, Jr., Jesse Herrera, Florencio Martinez, Noel Sanford, Basilio Torres, and Jerry Aguilar.
Virginia Avalos Garcia
RIO HONDO — Virginia Avalos Garcia, 58, entered into rest on Saturday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. Mrs. Garcia was a 15 year resident of Rio Hondo and was preceded in death by her stepson Esequiel Garcia.
She is survived by her loving husband of 15 years Jose M. Garcia of Rio Hondo, children Ernesto Avalos, Jr., Xcholi Avalos, Omar Avalos all of Brownsville, TX, Jose Garcia, Jr. of Georgia, Maria Aurora (Arnold) Cortez of Rio Hondo, Juan Garcia of Louisiana and Ricardo Garcia of Dallas, TX, her sisters Minerva Avalos of Houston, Carolina G. Torres, her brothers Domingo Garcia, Jr., Gil Carlos Garcia all of Brownsville, TX. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, Monday, April 11, 2005 from 10 A.M. until 9 P.M. at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7 P.M. The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 1:15 PM for a 2 P.M. Mass of Christian burial at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Rio Hondo, TX. with Fr. Mario Castro as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Rio Hondo Community Cemetery.

Melford L. Block
WESLACO/CALIFORNIA — Mel Block, 72, passed away April 8, 2005 in Modesto, California. He was the last surviving brother of Cpl. Harlon H. Block, USMC, flagraiser on Iwo Jimma.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dean and one sister.
Services will be at a later date in Weslaco.

Edythe Dailey Allison
HARLINGEN, TX — Edythe Dailey Allison, a resident of the Valley since 1917, died on April 9, 2005 at the age of 91. Born to Edwin C. and Allie Williams, she graduated from Edinburg High School, and moved to Harlingen in 1949.
Edythe was an active member of the United Methodist Church for over fifty years, and taught Sunday School here in the 1950s.
After the death of her first husband, Hugh Richard Dailey, she served as a Dormitory Director for seventeen years at Sam Houston State and Texas A & I University in Kingsville. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, E. Paul Allison in 1995.Edythe is survived by her daughter, Julie and husband, Paul Hagen of Austin; her son, Michael of Harlingen; three grandchildren, Jeremy Dailey, Corey Dailey and Lindsey Hagen; and her only great grandchild, Nicole Day of Dallas.
Graveside services will be preformed by Rev. L. Vigil of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church of Raymondville at Mont Meta Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2005.
A heartfelt and sincere "Thanks" to Rev. Joe Jaime and all the caregivers at Sandi Jo Funk Hospice who did so much to make Mother comfortable in her final months.

Ruth E. Lewis
HARLINGEN, TX — Ruth Evelyn Prentiss Lewis, 74, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 from heart complications. She was born and raised in San Benito, TX where she was an active solist in the San Benito High School choir. After attending Trinity University for 2 years as a voice major, she worked in the Los Fresnos school system as a teacher‘s aide. There she received the Associate Educator of the Year award for the state of Texas. During this time she met her husband Fred Lewis. They married in 1964 and lived in the Lozano area. Later, she earned a degree in elementary education from Pan American University and continued as an elementary teacher for Los Fresnos. After 29 years of teaching she retired and they moved to Camelot Retirement Community in Harlingen.
Ruth went to Valley Baptist Medical Center to do volunteer work in the craft dept. Ruth was a very creative person and with the help of her husband, they furnished churches, schools, receptions and weddings with her creations. She was active in the Community Church in Rio Hondo. Ruth was a choir soloist for many years and was a board member. She belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma International, Lambda Eta chapter, a member of the Teacher Retirement and the PEO Sisterhood.
Preceding her in death are her parents, John and Anne Prentiss of San Benito; and sister, D‘Anne Woody of Richmond, TX.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Lewis of Harlingen; two daughters and their families, D‘Ardi Lang and husband, Reed of Spring, TX, Becky Miller and husband, Steve of Birmingham, AL; one brother, Jack Prentiss and wife, Betty from Corpus Christi, TX; two nieces, Ann Clark, Jean Northington and nephew, James Scott Soutar; four grandchildren, Kathryn Hardin and husband, Chad, Reed Lang IV, Madison Miller and Trent Miller.

Jorge (George) Luis Garza
SAN BENITO/LOS INDIOS, TX — Jorge (George) Luis Garza, 48, was called home to the Lord‘s Heavenly Kingdom on April 11, 2005. He was born March 8, 1957 in San Benito, Texas to Maria and Jesus Garza.
George received his B.S. degree in English Literature from Rice University, and taught English as a second language in Spain. He was a landscape surveyor in Anchorage, Alaska. His hobbies included painting and discussing art.
He is survived by his loving mother, Maria Ester Garza; his brothers, Gonzalo (Kets) Garza from San Benito, Jesus Garza, Jr., from San Benito, Jose Garza from San Benito; and sister, Ana (Hank) Hartman from Anchorage, Alaska; and many nephews and nieces.
George is preceded in death by his younger brother, Juan Garza; father, Jesus Garza; and nephew, Orlando "Duke" Garza.
Visitations will be held today, April 13, 2005 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Frances Xavier Catholic Church with Father Andrew Kazadi officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in La Feria.

Melvin Hellman
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Melvin Henry Hellman, 93, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005 at La Hacienda Health Care Center in Harlingen, Texas. He was born November 17, 1911 in Nashville, Kansas to Fred Henry and Bertha (Diepenbrock) Hellman.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., April 14th, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Raymondville with Pastor Walter Pohland officiating. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
He served his country in WWII with Army 374th Field Artillery Battalion and was awarded the Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal and was an Honoree of the WWII Memorial.
He is survived by his wife, Frida Hellman of Raymonville; one son, Marvin Charles (Virginia) Hellman of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Marion (John) Miller Fulbright of Three Rivers and Kathy (Bob) Stahl of Houston; one sister, Elda Kieschnick of New Braunfels; one sister-in-law, Emmy Diepenbrock of Kansas. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by many other relatives in Germany and Kansas.
He is preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Douglas Miller; and one sister, Nora Hellman.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening until 7:30 p.m.

Mary Shewey
HARLINGEN, TX — Mary R. Shewey, 82, was born October 31, 1922 in Mansfield, Massachusetts and passed away April 4, 2005 in Aurora, Colorado.
She is survived by her son - Don Shewey of New York City, New York; three daughters - Marianne Moore of Calais, Maine, Barbara (Steve) Huscher of Aurora, Colorado, and Joanne Shewey of Aurora, Colorado; five grandchildren - Faith (Rhett) Wright of Austin, Texas, Jeri Huscher of Aurora, Colorado, Heather (Matt) Patton of Ft. Worth, Texas, Carlee (Justin) Knoll of Aurora, Colorado, and Adam (Elayna) Huscher of Aurora, Colorado; five great-grandchildren - Ashley Bedford, Alec Bedford, Kody Huscher, Damen Huscher, and Vivian Patton; two brothers - Fernando (Claire) Abreu of Mesa, Arizona and Joseph Abreu of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; and many, many friends!
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years - Delbert L. Shewey; two brothers - Albert Abreu and Tony Abreu; a sister - Laura Naedele and a grandson - Danny Shewey.
Mary was a longtime "Winter Texan", residing at Fun-N-Sun for more than 15 years. She was living with her daughter in Aurora, Colorado due to health reasons. She loved to square dance, read and do crossword puzzles. She was very proud of her military service. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly by her family and friends!
A funeral mass will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora, Colorado on Tuesday, April 12th, at 10:30 AM. Interment , with full military honors, will be at Ft. Logan Cemetery following the mass. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Erma McAdams
WESLACO — Erma Andersen Gilpen McAdams, 94, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2005 at John Knox Med. Center in Weslaco.
Born in Campbell, Nebraska to Walter Feldt and Alma Ethlyn Everling Andersen. Erma was retired and was a resident of John Knox Village in Weslaco. She taught for 33 years. 25 of which were in the Weslaco Independent School District. She was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church in Weslaco. She was a member of the Wesleyans Circle of the United Methodist Women having served as past president. She was also a past president of the Weslaco Fine Arts Club. The Weslaco Bicultural Museum Auxiliary, Weslaco Lioness Club. She was also a member of the Knapp Medical Center auxiliary. The Magic Valley Retired Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
She was preceded in death by her parents and also by Cary Dean Gilpin in 1934, her husband James Robert (Jack) McAdams in 1991, two children, James Feldt McAdams in 1946 and Jacquelyne Daion McAdams in 1977.
She is survived by Charles Richard (Dick) McAdams (Nancy), two grandsons Charles Richard McAdams Jr. and Casey Robin McAdams (Lori). 6 great grandchildren: Jonathan, Hannah, Sarah, Aaron, Calie and Cyla. Brothers Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Andersen, and Mr. and Mrs. K.R. Andersen, a sister Mrs. George P. Slaughter.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco.
Graveside services and interment will be held Tuesday morning, April 19, 2005 at Weslaco City Cemetery in Weslaco. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McCaleb Funeral Home of Weslaco.
Eudelia L. Dominguez
MERCEDES, TX — Eudelia "Lela" Dominguez, 59, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2005, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Celestino and Manuela L. Dominguez and is survived by one son, Chris (Anel) La Cross of Mercedes; two brothers, Celestino (Dolores) Dominguez, Jr. of San Benito, Juan "Pachin" (Lily) Dominguez of Mercedes; two sisters, Felicitas G. (Lupe) Arguelles, Dahlia Dominguez both of Mercedes; also surviving is a granddaughter, Kayla La Cross, who was her pride and joy.
Lela loved all her nephews, nieces and cousins with all of her heart. Lela was a wonderful person who brought joy to every person‘s life that she touched. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, with a rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mercedes. Interment will follow at Dominguez Cemetery in Relampago.
