Maria L. Pena
HARLINGEN, TX — Maria Luisa Pena, 84, entered peacefully into the Lords heavenly kingdom Thursday, January 6, 2005, to join her beloved late husband, Jose Pena of 65 years, who preceded her in death, November 1, 2004. She passed on peacefully surrounded by relatives and friends as they prayed and sang hymns at her bedside. She was a devout catholic and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She is also preceded in death by grandson, Javier Rodriguez; and a daughter, Juanita Pena.
Children surviving her are: Cande (Jaime) Rios, Fela (Jesus) Rodriguez, Chris (Oliverio) Garcia, Janie (Ignacio) Sauceda, Rosie Pena, Terry (Xavier) Alegria, Patti (Ernesto) Estrada, all of Harlingen and Cecilia (Bill) Ross of Sugarland,Tx.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, 2005, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. and a rosary at 7 p.m.
Funeral mass of christian burial will be held Saturday, January 8, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Honored to be Pallbearers will be grandsons, Billy Ross, Ignacio Sauceda, Jaime Rios, Jr., Ernesto Estrada, Jr., Luis Rios (Mario), and Jose Luis Rodriguez.

David Garza
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — David Garza, 61, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Port Mansfield, TX. He was born June 7, 1943 in Monterrey, Mexico to David & Maria Alicia Garza. Mr. Garza worked for the Willacy County Navigation District 27 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, LaQuita Garza of Raymondville; one son, David Robert Jr. (Nancy) Garza of San Juan; one daughter, Sherry (Gary) Wolfe of Lubbock; brothers and sisters, Alicia Garza Quintanilla, Jose Luis G. Quintanilla, Pablo Pedro Garza, Rafael (Violante Mayorga) Garza, Alberto Garza, Irma Garza, Leticia (Fernando) Garza Rodriguez, Blanca Nelly (Juan Enrique) Garza Guerra. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., January 8, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Raymondville. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the Co-Workers from The Willacy County Navigation District.

Sandra Torrez
WESLACO, TX — Sandra Torrez, 37, passed away January 3, 2005 at Knapp Medical Center. She was born July 28, 1967 to Gerardo and Esther (Luera) Torres.
She was a graduate of Weslaco High School in 1985 and had been a teacher at Carman Elementary School in San Juan for 10 years.
She is survived by her parents; her husband, Orlando Torrez; daughter, Alessandra Torrez; brothers, Manuel (Anna) Torres and Steven E. Torres; maternal grandmother, Martina Aleman. Also surviving are her father-in-law, Juan Jesus Torrez; brother-in-law, John Jay (Virasone) Torrez; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Aurelio) Moran; and nieces and nephews, Mark A. Torres, Adriana A. Torres, Kaithlyn A. Torrez, Averi J. Moran and Abram J. Moran.
Funeral services will be held today, Friday, January 7, 2005 at 10 a.m., at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Officiating the service will be Pastor Juan de los Santos of Light House Church in Weslaco. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.
Serving as pallbearers will be Manuel Torres, Mark A. Torres, Steven Torres, Orlando Torrez, John Jay Torrez, Gustavo Lopez and Gerardo Torres.

Librada Pacheco
HARLINGEN, TX — Librada (Ya Ya) Pacheco went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2005 in Harlingen, Texas.
Librada Pacheco is preceded in death by husband, Antonio Pacheco; granddaughter, Alma Delia Ornelas, Angelita Tapia and Lydia Martinez.
She is survived by children, Alma Gloria Ornelas (Juvenal), Andres Pacheco, Alejandro Pacheco and Leonso Heredia; three sisters, Adelita Noriega, Juanita Guajardo and Fela Rodriguez; and two brothers, Juan Guajardo and Guadalupe Guajardo; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be said at 7 p.m. at Mont Meta Restlawn Cox Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Committal Service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas.

SAN PERLITA, TX — Eulalia H. Hernandez, 73, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. She was born February 25, 1931 in Norias, Texas to Guadalupe B. and Petra (Barrientez) Hernandez.
A Prayer Service will be held Thursday 6:30 p.m., at Duddlesten Chapel.
Chapel Service will be held Friday, 4 p.m., January 7th, 2005, at Duddlesten Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Hernandez, moved to Raymondville from Gregory, Texas in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Jose M. Hernandez of San Perlita; four sons, Delfino Hernandez of San Perlita, Orlando Hernandez of Ingleside, TX, Faustino Hernandez of Portland and Charles Hernandez of San Perlita; three brothers, Francisco Hernandez of Mt. Claire, CA, Heriberto Hernandez of Brownsville and Gavino Hernandez of Riviera; two sisters, Sofia Tamez of Rockport, TX and Perla H. Cruz of Diboll, TX. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Petra Hernandez; two sisters, Yolanda Lopez and Ramona Solis; one brother, Guadalupe Hernandez, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Orlando, Eddie, Matthew and Javier Hernandez, Fernando Cruz and Danny Solis.

Jose Aldape
MERCEDES, TX — Jose Aldape, 73, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2005, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
He is survived by his wife, Victoriana G. Aldape of Mercedes; three sons, Jose Aldape, Jr., Alberto Aldape and Armando Aldape all of Mercedes; four daughters, Mary Guerra of Rapid City, S. D., Alama Zuniga of Houston, Estela Aldape of Mercedes and Isabel Meza of Donna.
Also surviving is one brother, Francisco Aldape of Alamo, 30 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ruben Aldape in 2003.
A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home chapel and cremation followed.

Jesus Marin
HARLINGEN, TX — Jesus Marin, age 78, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was a lifetime resident of Harlingen.
He is survived by 8 daughters: Maria Saldana of Combes, Sofia (Juan) Serrata of Harlingen, Maria (Juan) Posada of Harlingen, Juanita Marin of Harlingen, Jackie Montalvo of Harlingen, Chris Marin of Corpus Christi, Rosalinda (Isaias) Anaya of Harlingen and Sally (Daniel) Lozano of Harlingen; 4 sons: Alfredo (Nora) Marin of Houston, Jesse (Abby) Marin of La Feria, Frank (Gracie) Marin of Harlingen and Fabian (Sara) Marin of Harlingen. He is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by 2 sons, Carlos Salvador Saldana and Jesus Marin; and wife, Apolonia Marin.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 8, 2005, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tadeo Cano officiating.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Iglesia Evangelica De Principe De Paz, 321 E. Lincoln Harlingen,TX.
Burial will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery.

Bill Edwards
SANTA MARIA, TX — Bill Edwards, 74, passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at his residence.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Edwards; three sons, Bill R. Edwards, Jr., of Mercedes, Art Edwards, James Edwards both of Santa Maria; one daughter, Heather Edwards of Santa Maria; also surviving is a sister, Gerry Beckland of Austin; and two grandsons.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home of Mercedes.
Cynthia Pye Whittle
HARLINGEN, TX — Cynthia Pye Whittle left this earth to spend eternity in the company of her Lord the night of January 5, 2005.
She slipped from one peaceful rest to another to join her loving husband, Grady Whittle in their heavenly home.
Cynthia was born January 20, 1917, a native of Louisiana. She and her husband moved to the Rio Grande Valley where they raised their only child, Faye Schmidt. Cynthia was an active member of the First Baptist Church, involved in several activities including 42 and the mailing of the Courier.
She will be missed by many in the church, and the community.
She touched countless lives during her tenure at San Benito and Harlingen Public Schools.
Her daughter, Faye Schmidt; her grandchildren, Cyndie Haden (Chris), Joey Schmidt (Trisha), Mike Schmidt (Shelly), and Nicky Schmidt; her great grandchildren, Christopher, Alix, Sara and Lindsey; and her great great grandchild, Jacob will all mourn the loss of their Granny.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at the funeral home from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Graveside services will be Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Restlawn Memorial Park at 4 p.m. with Rev. Pat Graham officiating.
Any donations to the Rio Grande Children‘s Home will be graciously accepted in the place of flowers.

Virginia V. Campos
BROWNSVILLE, TX — Virginia V. Campos, 99, of Brownsville, TX, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2005. Virginia was born on February 11, 1905 in Victoria, TX.
Her parents, Tomas and Josefa Vasquez; brothers, Candelario and Pedro Vasquez; and sisters, Tomasita P. Vasquez and Guadalupe Elizarde, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her four children, Jose Eliseo Davila (Cathy) of Chicago, IL, Josefa C. DiGrazia of Brownsville, TX, Jose Angel Campos (Estela) of Mercedes, TX and Virginia Perez (Nathanael) of Brownsville, TX; 14 grandchildren, Nohemi Waldo, Lisa Davila, Tina Davila, Michael Davila, David Davila, Arnulfo (Diana) Martinez, Patricia (Arturo) Lozano, Joseph (Kristin) Campos, Katie (Gene) Gryz, Ariana Campos, Juan Carlos Campos, Nat C. Perez, Jaime (Sonia) Perez and Javier (Ina) Perez; 36 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virginia was one of the first members of St. Joseph‘s Catholic Church.
Grandma, as she was affectionately known to all, will be greatly missed.
Visitation was held on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at 9 a.m., with the rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, January 7, 2005, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.

On Friday, January 7, 2005, Aurora Ramirez Romero, Beloved Sister in Christ, Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Neighbor and Friend, was called to be with her Creator and Savior. Aurora was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Society. She spent her days here helping not only her family, but also her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. She was a truly giving person. She lived through the Bible and set the example for every life that she touched. She will be missed, but we will continue to celebrate the life of a true Christian.
Preceded in death by her mother, Rafaela Salas, her father, Santos Ramirez and brother, Luis Ramirez
She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 51 years, Bulfrano Romero; her children, Roger (Cathy) Romero, Viola (Luis) Villarreal, Gracie (Joe) Mendoza, Alicia (Carlos) Sanchez, Gloria (Bizhan) Pezeshki, Teresa (John) Garrett, Socorro (Todd) Langley, Jose Luis Romero, Mary (Ricardo) Guillen, Robert (Debbie) Romero, Javier (Diana) Romero, Isabel (Paul) Dao, and Mari (Paul) Cardle; 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and her three sisters, Consuelo Ammonds, Susana Rodriguez, and Carmen Arrellano.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sunday, January 9, 2005 with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel A.
