HARLINGEN, TX — Jesus R. Flores, 74, entered into rest on Tuesday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
Mr. Flores was a lifelong resident of Harlingen and was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Ramona Flores; and his children, Eloy Flores, Martinita Flores and Sylvia Irma Flores. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Irma T. Flores of Harlingen, TX; children, Jesse T. Alma) Flores of Houston, TX, Saul T. (Irene) Flores of Houston, TX, Mirtia (John) Carrio of Houston, TX, Moises T. (Alejandra) Flores of Houston, TX, Lucy Flores of Los Fresnos, TX, Irma Posada of Houston, TX. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, October 20, 2004 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 PM.
The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 funeral service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2320 Haine Dr., Harlingen, TX. Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen, TX.
Pallbearers will be Jaime Flores, Stephen Carrio, II, Mashall Lopez, Simon Flores, Jesse Flores and Spencer Posada.

Jose Rodriguez
EDINBURG, TX — Jose "Joe" M. Rodriguez, 50, was called home to the Lord on Monday, October 18, 2004, surrounded by his family and friends at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg, TX.
Jose was born on July 8, 1954, in Edinburg. He graduated from Edinburg High School in 1973 and received his Bachelor‘s in Criminal Justice from Pan American University in 1976. He joined the Dallas Police Department in 1977. In 1989, he graduated from the Drug Enforcement Administration Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia and began service as a Special Agent assigned to the Dallas Field Division Office.
Mr. Rodriguez has been a tremendous cancer fighter. When life presented a challenge, he stood up to meet the challenge with dignity, courage and unwavering faith in the Lord. He will forever stand as an example to others.
Jose is survived by his his children, Cynthia Ann (Eddie) Elizondo of Edinburg, Joseph Anthony Rodriguez, Laurie Melissa Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez, Jr. all of Duncanville, Texas, and Jonathan Rodriguez of Mesquite, Texas; parents, Antonio C. Rodriguez and Gabriela Rodriguez of Edinburg; two brothers, Antonio "Tony" (Gloria) Rodriguez, Jr. of McAllen, Juan (Vangie) Rodriguez of Edinburg; a sister, Rosita "Rosie" (Richard) Peralez of Edinburg; and five grandchildren.
Jose was always a loving father, brother, and son, that brought joy and laughter to any family event. His love and passion was spending quality time with his children and building things with his hands. Joe will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He will be remembered as a most caring father and son.
The family would like to thank Dr. Carlos Becerra and the staff at the Southwestern Medical Center, Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas, Texas; Dr Luis Delgado in McAllen, Dr. Henry Ruiz in McAllen, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance; and DEA Dallas Field Division Office.
Visitation will take place from 9 AM to 9 PM, with a 7:30 PM Rosary, today, October 20, 2004 at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 East Canton, in Edinburg.
Funeral service will be at 2 PM Thursday, October 21, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Edinburg.

Rodolfo Gonzalez, Jr.
HARLINGEN, TX — Rodolfo Garza Gonzalez, Jr., 55, was called home to the Lord‘s Heavenly Kingdom October 18, 2004. He was a native of Harlingen born March 22, 1949 to Rodolfo Sr. and Clarita Gonzalez.
He worked at Sun Valley Mall as maintenance supervisor for the past 10 years. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed greatly, and will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Olga D. Gonzalez and four children: Rodolfo Gonzalez III, Rolando (Sandra) Gonzalez all of Harlingen, Veronica (Eric) Ybarra of San Benito and Michael (Yadira) Gonzalez of Harlingen; Grandchildren: Pablo Rocha, Adrian Mendoza, Nicolas Gonzalez, Anjolynn Ybarra, Emma Ybarra, Eric Jayden Ybarra, Yamilex Gonzalez, Rebecca Johnston; 1 niece: Jessica Johnston; and 2 nephews: Johnny Johnston and Oscar Garcia.
Visitations will be held today beginning at 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM with prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM led by Maggie Cisneros.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday Oct. 21, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church with Fr. Pedro Briseno as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mont-Meta Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Arnoldo Galvan, Bobby Cantu, Eddie Huerta, Alex Gonzalez, Sammy Huerta and Felix Ramirez.

SANTA ROSA, TX — Victoria Anna Jimenez, 79, entered into rest on Monday at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
Mrs. Jimenez was a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa and was preceded in death by her parents, Marin and Leonarda Gonzalez; husband, Romolo Jimenez; brothers, Jose Angel Gonzalez, Marin Gonzalez; and her sisters, Maria Concepcion Gonzalez and Modesta Silva. She is survived by her loving children: Guadalupe (Esmeralda+) Jimenez of Santa Rosa, Celia (Domingo) Razo of La Feria, San Juana (Daniel) Perez of Santa Rosa, Beatriz Jimenez of Santa Rosa, Daniel (Ma. Elma+) Jimenez of La Feria, TX, Catarina (Guadalupe) Hernandez of Santa Rosa, Ramon Jimenez of Santa Rosa, Jose Alfredo (Noelia) Jimenez of La Feria, Gilberto (Sara) Jimenez of Santa Rosa, Maria Victoria (Armando) Betancourt of Santa Rosa, Raul (Diddy) Jimenez of Santa Rosa, Ray Perez of Santa Rosa, Lupe Perez of Santa Rosa; 25 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and one brother, Ramiro Gonzalez of Santa Rosa, TX.

Eusebia Bermea
RAYMONDVILLE — Eusebia Bermea, 89, of Raymondville entered into rest October 22, 2004 in Harlingen. She was born December 16, 1914 in Austin, TX. Mrs. Bermea was a homemaker for her adult life.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Juanita De Los Santos and her husband of 72 years, Mr. Jose Bermea.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Fred) Silva of Raymondville, Dora (Steve) Parsons of The Colony, TX, and Gloria (Ray) Sanchez of Rio Hondo, TX, fours sons, Ramon (Sandra) Bermea of Raymondville, Jose M. Bermea Jr. of Alexandria, Virginia, Floyd (Gloria) Bermea of Austin, and Alberto Bermea of Raymondville, two sisters, Juanita Ortiz of Earth, TX and Paz Otiveros of Minnesota, 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, from 1 p.m. till 9 p.m. at Duddlesten Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2004, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow at Raymondville Cemetery. Thera Faye Kidd
Houston/Harlingen — Thera Faye Kidd, 56, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2004 at Houston Hospice Center in Houston, TX.
She is survived by her parents, Noble and Marjorie Kidd of Houston, TX, a brother, Noble Kidd III, sisters, Elaine Kidd and Anne Veale.
A Graveside Service will be said on Monday, October 25, 2004 by Pastor Sam Hunnicutt at 10 a.m. at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX.

Charles David "Dave" Reyner
HARLINGEN — Charles David "Dave" Reyner, 83, passed away Friday, October 22, 2004. Dave was born on September 26, 1921 in Kansas City, MO to Glen David Reyner and Clara Rae Rhea Reyner. He was a member of Harlingen Country Club, Country Club of Missouri in Columbia, MO and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Dave is survived by his wife, Ann J. Reyner of Harlingen, sons, Mark Reyner of Los Lunas, NM and Douglas Reyner of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Robin Whelan of Poplar Bluff, MO, and grandchildren, Robert Reyner, Amy Reyner, Ryan Grathwohl, Ross Whelan and Rachel Whelan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katholine Reyner in May 1994.Visitation will be Sunday, October 24, 2004 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family being present form 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 25, 2004 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria at 2 p.m. Interment will follow later at Memorial Gardens in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Gilberto Zepeda, Sr.
La Encantada, TX — Gilberto Zepeda, Sr. 82, passed away at his residence on Friday October 22, 2004. He was born May 4, 1922 to Carlos and Olivia Esparza Zepeda in San Benito, TX living all his life in El Ranchito.
Gilberto mastered farming at a young age to the extent of being dubbed "The Okra King". He later was a deputy with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department. He enjoyed listening to Mexican corridos, visiting with family and friends, and eating out. Among his many interests, politics and history were his favorites.
He was a loyal Democrat and worked to get people registered to vote.
Early on he served as a school board member of Cameron County District 2 before consolidation with San Benito. He was a member of both
The San Benito and Cameron County Historical Societies. He gave lectures about "The History of Hispanics in Texas" and shared his collections of documents and photographs with others. He showed people and helped them trace their ancestral lineage, as he was "The keeper of the Records". His family’s history traces back to Rincon de Galan Land Grant in Webb County and San Pedro de Carricitos Land Grant in Cameron County.
He is preceded in death by his son, Carlos Zepeda, his parents, and brothers, Pedro, Eduardo, and sister, Maria Luisa Zepeda.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Williams Zepeda, son, Gilberto Zepeda, Jr., daughter, Diana Villalobos and four grandchildren, Jacqueline Zepeda, Nicole Zepeda, Gilberto Zepeda, III, and Andrea Villalobos.
Visitation will be today 1p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2004 with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel A.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2004 at St. Theresa Catholic Church of San Benito with interment to follow at Zepeda Cemetery, El Ranchito, TX.

Jackie La Fond nee Mary Ruth Hampton
HIGHLAND HAVEN — Jackie La Fond nee Mary Ruth Hampton, 85, of Highland Haven, died on October 22, 2004. She was born January 12, 1919 in Orange, Texas. She lived in Oklahoma in early childhood and moved to the Rio Grande Valley in the mid 1920’s. She graduated from Mercedes High School and attended a business school in Corpus Christi. She married Lloyd A. La Fond on August 8, 1936, in La Feria, Texas, where they made their home for the next twenty-five years. In 1962 they moved to Weslaco, Texas. She worked with Lloyd in their automobile dealership and later, in the development of an RV park until they retired in 1979. She raised two children and was active in civic, school, and church organizations. She was the most loving and supportive wife and mother anyone could hope to have. Over the years her many interests included entertaining, traveling, water skiing, tennis, sewing, reading, and bridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. La Fond, by her parents, Lawrence and Mary Frances Harris Hampton, and sister, Gladys Hampton Carr Rauschenbach.
Survivors include her son, Lloyd E. La Fond and wife, Doris of Twin Isles, daughters, Judy Schwab and husband, Jerry of Highland Haven, grandchildren, Douglas Schwab of San Antonio, Mark Schwab and wife, Iris of San Antonio, Deborah Macey and husband, John of Houston, Lisa Rial and husband, Tom of Weslaco, Larry La Fond and wife, Stephanie of Reston, Virginia, 13 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Isabel La Fond Raybourn of Boerne, and 14 nieces and nephews.
The rosary will be recited on Monday, October 25, 2004 at 7 p.m. at Edgar Funeral Home-Marbel Falls, TX. Services will be held at the St. Charles Borromero Catholic Church in Kingsland, TX on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Joseph Mitrano C.S.B. Entombment will be in Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet, TX.

John Alongi
Harlingen — John Alongi, 84, went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carrie Alongi, a son, Don (Mary) Alongi of Harlingen, daughter, Josephine (Joe) Falls of Rolling Meadows, 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, a sister, Rosie Kinyon of New Boston, Illinois, a brother Tony Alongi, of Rolling Meadows.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Alongi.
Mr. Alongi was a WWII Veteran and was a member of the Masons.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 25, 2004, at Mont Meta Funeral Home Chapel from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

MERCEDES — Andrew Jaey Montalvo, 17 months old, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2004 at Driscol Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He is survived by his loving parents, Rudy and Sara Saenz Montalvo of Mercedes, Texas, brothers, Buddy Montalvo of Lyford, TX, Anthony Saenz Montalvo of Mercedes, Austin Montalvo of Mercedes, sister, Alyssa Jenea Montalvo of Lyford, paternal grandparents, Samuel and Maria Montalvo of Santa Monica, TX, maternal grandparents, Joe and Rita Saenz of Mercedes, godparents, Hector and Jenna Arredondo of Pharr, Texas.
Also survived by uncles, aunts, and cousins. Viewing hours will be on Sunday, October 24, 2004 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Holy Rosary prayed at 7 p.m. tonight.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 25, 2004. We will depart Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels at 10 a.m. For a 10:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Interment will then follow at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Mercedes, Texas.

James W. Silver
CHEYENNE, WY — James W. "Wade" Silver, 83, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born September 14, 1921 in Spruce Pine, NC.
Mr. Silver was an employee of PPG Industries (Pittsburgh Plate Glass). He married Rosemary Silver on September 4, 1947 in Harlingen, Texas. He was also a veteran of W W II, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Harlingen, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Silver; parents, Roy and Verdi Silver; and an infant daughter, Dianna Lynn Silver.
Survivors include his son, Jerald Silver, O‘Fallon, IL; daugthers, Judy Bezek, Cheyenne, WY and Patricia Cody, Temple, TX; brothers, Gene Silver, Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Silver was a lifelong resident of Harlingen, Texas prior to his move to Cheyenne in 2001. He was much loved and had many friends in both communities. He will be greatly missed.
