Lawrence "Larry" Asbury
HARLINGEN — Lawrence "Larry" Asbury, 47, entered into the Lords Heavenly Kingdom, Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Joe Asbury Jr.
He is survived by his parents Billy Joe and Juanita Asbury of Harlingen; brothers, Virgil Asbury and John Asbury both of Harlingen; numerous uncles, aunts and cousins; two nephews, William Blake Asbury of La Feria and Jeffery Scott Asbury of Corpus Christie, TX.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 2, 2004 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Czerwien. Burial will follow at Combes Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Virgil Asbury, John Asbury, Billy Blake Asbury, Jeffery Asbury, Ryan Gilday, and Robby Cruz.

Ethel Marie Wilt
WESLACO, TX — Ethel Marie Wilt, 85, passed away Friday, July 30, 2004 in Ruston, Louisiana. She was born in Dallas, Texas on May 4, 1919.
She is survived by her three children, Joan (Jim) Hardee of Hope, Arkansas; Chip (Katie) Wilt of Orange Park, Florida; and Jim Bob (Vickie) Wilt of Weslaco, Texas; four grandchildren, Tami (Richard) Davis of Ruston, Louisiana; Kimberly Wilt (Shane) London of Riviera, Texas; Scott (Raelyn) Hardee of Hope, Arkansas; and Amy Wilt of San Antonio, Texas; three great grandchildren, Zach, Lindsey, and Devin Davis; and longtime friend, Eugenia Barrera.
She worked the last 45 years in the family printing business, Wilt Printing. As a member of the Star Lions Club, she served as President, and held other offices as well. She was a lifetime member of the Texas Lion’s Camp and also a past President and member of the Business & Professional Women’s Club of Weslaco. She was an avid bowler for many years, loved to play bingo and enjoyed the company of her dog, Pooh Bear.
A funeral service will be held today, Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 2 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Officiating the service will be Chris Rangel, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Weslaco.

Patricia Stokes
HARLINGEN, TX — Patricia (Pat) Jean Stokes, 63, went to see Jesus on August 1, 2004 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Her parents, Dwight and Reta Hays preceded her in death.
She is survived by her loving husband, William (Bill) W. Stokes and many friends.
She was born in New Mexico on March 19, 1941. Patricia’s family moved to the Rio Grande Valley when she was very young and made their home here for the rest of their lives. In her teenage years she was employed as a carhop at Hygeia where she met and married her husband of 42 years.
Patricia was employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 32 years, holding various positions. She was active in the Valley Arts & Crafts Club and she was an avid collector of various memorablia. She especially enjoyed painting, bird watching, fishing, traveling the world and photography. Patricia Jean was a loving, caring person who always put others before herself. She made friends easily and kept them.
Graveside services will be held at the Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito, Texas on August 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. Officiating the service will be Bob Cole Pastor of First Baptist Church in Combes.

Roberto Gonzalez, Sr.
MERCEDES, TX — Roberto "Bobby" Gonzalez, Sr., 63, passsed away on Sunday at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
Mr. Gonzalez was a Mercedes native and a jockey for many years since a very young age. He was the best known of a handful of Texas jockeys who rode at Louisiana’s Evangeline Downs, a popular Lafayette track. He also rode in tracks in Michigan, Kentucky and New Orleans.
He is survived by two sons, Bobby Gonzalez, Jr., of Lafayette, Louisiana and Kit Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving is his mother, Guadalupe D. Gonzalez of Mercedes, two brothers, Raymundo (Olivia) Gonzalez, Jr.,of Weslaco and Rolando "Ronnie" (Carmen) Gonzalez of San Antonio, TX and one sister, Dora G. Robledo of Mercedes.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be said Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church of Mercedes with burial following at Ebony Grove Cemetery of Mercedes under the direction of Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home.
Sarah R. Loya
LA FERIA, TX — Infant Sarah Ranae Loya, born July 30, 2004 to Manuel Loya and Linda Crystal Montemayor entered into the Lords Heavenly Kingdom July 31, 2004.
She is preceded in death by her paternal great grandfather, Fernando Najar and great grandparents, Gregorio and Hermina Montemayor.
Survivors include Paternal grandparents: Manuel and Minerva Loya of La Feria. Maternal grandparents: Linda Najar of La Feria and Manuel and Rachel Montemayor of San Antonio. Paternal great grandparents: Jose and Genoveva Loya of La Feria. Maternal great grandparents: Isreal and Stephana Huerta of Mercedes. Maternal grandmother: Josefa Najar of La Feria. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers will be grand fathers, Manuel Montemajor and Manuel Loya Sr.
Funeral mass of christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday August 3, 2004 at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church with Fr. Plutarco Belanggoy officiating. Burial will follow to Heavenly Grace Cemetery under the direction of Trinity Funeral Chapel 1217 South F, Street Harlingen, TX.
Ramon D. Gonzalez
HARLINGEN, TX — Ramon D. Gonzalez, 89, entered into rest on Monday at his residence surrounded by his family.
Mr. Gonzalez was a 23 year resident of San Benito and proudly served his country during W.W. II in the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Gracia Gonzalez and is survived by his daughter, Ayda Hernandez of Harlingen, TX; grandsons, Juan Antonio Gomez of Harlingen, TX, Jose Miguel Gomez of Neb.; brothers, Olimpido D. Gonzalez, Samuel D. Gonzalez; and sisters, Maria Bishop and Mercedes Gonzalez.
Visitation was held on, Tuesday, August 3, 2004 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with the Holy Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM and a Prayer Service at 8:00 PM.
The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home, today, Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito, TX. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, TX with military graveside services under the auspices of American Legion Post 205 and V.F.W. Post 2410.
Pallbearers will be Oscar Gonzalez, Ernesto Gonzalez, Eusebio Alvarado, Valentine Vasquez, Frankie Gracia and Francisco Tristan, Sr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Juan Antonio and Jose Miguel Gomez.

James E. Eubanks
HARLINGEN, TX — James E. Eubanks, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at his home July 31, 2004 at the age of 78 after a long battle with Parkinson Disease.
He was born in Santa Rosa June 3, 1926 and was the youngest son of George and Gladys Eubanks, who were a pioneering farming family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Kenneth D. Milam.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Eubanks; daughters, Elayne Milam (Mike) Mattar, Gina Payne; son, George Eubanks, as well as six grandchildren, Mark, Matt, and Misty Milam, Michelle Mattar, Davis and Colin Eubanks; and two great grandchildren, Kobe and Elijah Milam. He is also survived by his brother, Eugene (Marie) Eubanks; sister-in-law, Margie Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Texas A&I University in May 1947, where he received a degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering, James married Virginia Jarrell of Ft. Worth. At that time he went to work for the Texas Railroad Commission in Kilgore for two years before being hired by the North Basin Engineering Group. In 1949 he returned to Santa Rosa to join his father and brother in their farming business. In the 48 years he was farming Eubanks built a reputation for being a well respected vegetable producer and cotton and grain grower. In 1997 he retired from farming and he and Virginia moved to the city of Palm Valley, where he resided until his passing.
His many loves were his relationship with God, his wife, his family, traveling, watching tennis, and growing roses. During his lifetime he was active with the Santa Rosa ISD School Board, Santa Rosa Methodist Church, and the Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club. Additionally he served on the board of La Feria Irrigation District, as well as numerous other boards of agriculture related businesses.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, Wednesday, August 4, 2004 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 9 a.m.; with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11 a.m. at the Santa Rosa Methodist Church.
The family would be eternally grateful for the loving care that Polo Sanchez provided for his "Compadre".

Edith Sherock
AUSTIN, TX — Edith Sherock, 91, of Austin, Texas, and formerly from Harlingen, Texas, died July 29, 2004, at Maui Memorial Hospital, Wailuku, Hawaii.
Mrs. Sherock was born December 20, 1912, in Baraga, Michigan. She lived her long life in Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Texas and Hawaii. She last resided at the Camelot Retirement Community in Harlingen, Texas prior to moving in with her daughter and son-in-law. Her lifetime passion was quilting making over 20 quilts for various members of her family. While at Camelot, she enjoyed sewing, playing cards and bingo, as well as the camaraderie of being with others. She was always volunteering for something. She believed in "giving to others" and lived her life accordingly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Matthew J. Sherock; sons, Duane M. Sherock and Matthew J. Sherock; brother, Leonard Johnson; sister, Ailie Palkowski.
She is survived by son, Wally Sherock and partner, Jill Atkinson of Ypsilanti, Michigan and daughter, Lois Reiswig and husband, Lee Reiswig of Austin, Texas and Kaanapali, Maui, Hawaii; brother, Loyde Johnson; step sisters, Mae Nycklemoe, Olga Torkelson; step brother, Eddie Werronen, and half sisters, Elaine Korvela, Elna Tumberg, and half brother, Eino Werronen.
Cremation with burial of ashes at the family plot in Hale, Michigan will be at a later date.

Otilio N. Conde
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Otilio Navarro Conde, 75, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004 at his home in Raymondville, TX. He was born December 13, 1928 in Goliad, Texas to Demetrio and Julia (Navarro) Conde.
Mr. Conde lived in Raymondville all his life.
A Rosary will be held Wednesday 7 p.m., at Duddlesten Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 10 a.m., August 5, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Natalia R. Conde of Raymondville; three sons, Jose (Gloria) Rodriguez of Lyford, Otilio, Jr. (Nellie) Conde and Ramiro (Diana) Conde, both of Raymondville; five daughters, Norma (Roberto) Cruz and Maria Anna (Peter) Hernandez both of Raymondville, Olga (Chito) Cardenas of Penitas, Nora Garcia and Anita (Juan) Salinas both of Raymondville; two sisters, Juana Chavarria and Petra C. Hernandez both of Raymondville. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, Jesus, Pedro and Jose Conde; one daughter and both parents.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren.

Edward Flores
HARLINGEN, TX — Edward Flores, 29, passed away Monday, August 2, 2004.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolina Flores; step children, Timothy, Michael, Andrea, Jeremiah and Jennifer. He is also survived by his mother, Lupita Flores; four brothers, Chris, Daniel, Jose Juan, and Arturo Flores; two sisters, Brenda Rodriguez and Irene Flores.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jose Juan Flores.
Pallbearers will be Rick, Moses, Ruben De la Cruz, Ruben, Chris, Daniel, Arturo and Leo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2004, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Garza-Elizondo Funeral Home.
Chapel Service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2004. Interment will follow at Las Rusias Cemetery in Los Indios.

L. Dean Shepherd
MARBLE FALLS, TX — L. Dean Shepherd, 73, joined our Heavenly Father on August 2, 2004. Dean was born March 25, 1931 in Chula, Missouri.
He moved to Kansas City, Kansas in 1962. Dean was a veteran of the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. Dean is an active member in good standing in the following organizations: He is 32nd degree Mason, Centennial Master at Delaware Lodge #96 in Kansas City, Kansas (1970), District Deputy Grand Master for the state of Kansas (1972), member of the Abdallah Shrine, and Scottish Rite for the state of Kansas. His wife Falyce was active by his side in Eastern Star.
Dean moved to La Feria, Texas to retire and build a mobile home and RV park in 1976. He always wanted a family business for his wife and all of his sons to be part of. Hurricane Allen changed his mind about living in La Feria, Texas and he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1980. He then moved to Marble Falls, Texas in 1999.
Dean touched the heart of many people through his generosity and eagerness to help others. He built his grandmother her first modern house and was always there to assist a family member or friend.
He is survived by his wife, Falyce Yoder Shepherd; son, Joseph Shepherd of Bertherd, Colorado, son, Rickey Shepherd of Gult, Missouri, son, Richard Shepherd of Harlingen, Texas and son, Phillip Shepherd of Marble Falls; sister, Bessie Dennis of Richmond Missouri; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
One of the greatest gifts that we received from God is a man we called Dad. He took all of our love with him and left all of his for us.
Visitation will be from 6-8 on Saturday, August 7, 2004, at Lindley Funeral Chapel in Chillicothe Missouri.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, 2004.
