HARLINGEN, TX — Pablo Hernandez, 78, entered into rest on Sunday at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX. Mr. Hernandez was a longtime resident of Harlingen.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Rosa Hernandez and his brother Guadalupe Ortiz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Juanita H. Hernandez of Harlingen, daughters Rosa Maria Hernandez of Harlingen, Lydia(Jesse) Lara of Weslaco, grandson Nathan Lara, granddaughter Jeannette Lara and numerous other family members.
Visitation was held on Monday, March 22, 2004 from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with the Holy Rosary prayed at 7:00 PM.
The funeral procession will depart the Rudy Garza Funeral Home, today, March 23, 2004 at 10:30 AM for an11:00 AM Mass of Christian burial at Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery in Harlingen, TX.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Hernandez’s family and friends.
Adrian Galvan
HARLINGEN, TX — Adrian Galvan, age 3 1/2, entered into the Lords Heavenly Kingdom Monday March 22, 2004 at Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston, Tx after a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his mother Daisy Galvan, Sister: Cassandra Rocha, Grandparents: Darren and Rosa Guerrero and Great Grandparents Alejandro and Aurelia Ontiveros and Cruz and Maxine Guerrero. Aunt: Rosalinda Guerrero and Uncles: D.J. Guerrero Jr., Jose Galvan Jr., Alex Ontiveros. God parents: Jesus and Maria Gonzales.
Visitation will be held Wednesday March 24, 2004 from 3 pm to 9 pm. A holy rosary will be recited at 7pm Wed. evening. Funeral mass of christian burial will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 10 :00 a.m. with Father Matt Shanley, SS.CC. Burial will follow to Las Rucias Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Hicks, Jose Galvan Jr., De Shane Guerrero and Damian Guerrero.

Anna Mae Nicholas
ARLINGTON, TX — Anna Mae (Wilson) Nicholas, 81, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas after a short illness. Anna was born on October 31, 1922 in Brenham, Texas to Thomas and Emma Wilson.
She was a longtime resident of Harlingen having lived there since 1951. She worked as a telephone operator with South Western Bell Telephone Co. until her retirement in 1977. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harlingen. In 2000 she moved to Arlington, Texas to be closer to her daughter, Jackie.
Anna Mae is survived by her daughters, Jackie (Phillip) Witt of Arlington, TX and Rae Dawn (Randall) Young of Harlingen; grandchildren, Edward G. (Duana) David of Harlingen, Chase Young of Harlingen, Michael (Charity) Witt of Arlington, TX and Jessica Rae (Todd) Cooley of Carrolton, TX; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Ray Nicholas in 1997.
Visitation hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 12 PM to 9PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM, Wednesday, March 24, 2004.
Graveside services only will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 11 AM, Thursday, March 25, 2004 with Pastor Bill Reagan officiating.
The family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the American Heart Association.

Opal M. Browning
SAN ANTONIO, TX — HARLINGEN — Opal M. Browning, 93, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2004 in San Antonio. Opal was born December 20, 1910 in Senath, Missouri.
She was employed in Harlingen by the National Apartment Management Company out of Houston, TX and by Robert Anzak, owner of Saint James Apartments in Harlingen. Opal retired from Saint James Apartments as manager in 1988.
Graveside services only will be held Thursday, March 25, 2004 at 9:00 am at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria.
Opal is survived by her son, George T. (Teresa) Browning of Lubbock, TX; daughters, Suzanna Duran of Ruidoso, NM, and Linnea Moreno of San Antonio, TX; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Betty Sue (Suzy) Capen Jones
WESLACO, TX — Betty Sue (Suzy) Capen Jones, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, at Comfort House in McAllen. She was born on October 21, 1925, in Troup, Texas, to E. A. and Ruth Hamilton Capen, both of whom preceded her in death. She has made her home in Weslaco since 1956.
Reared in La Feria and Donna, Suzy graduated as Co-Valedictorian from Donna High School. After earning a degree at the University of Kentucky, she married J W ("Shorty") Jones, also of Donna, in 1946. She and Shorty were loving parents to their only child, Ann. They shared 29 wonderful years of marriage, until his death in 1975.
"Involved" is one of the best words to describe Suzy. She was a helpmate to Shorty in Jones Pharmacy, their family business in Weslaco, as well as his bridge and fishing partner. She sewed costumes for Ann’s dance recitals, led a Girl Scout troop, and was a homeroom mother for probably 12 years.
Suzy was a loyal and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Weslaco, where she served a term as President of the Administrative Board and was a longtime member of Covenant Visitors. For her many contributions to the church, she was honored as Lay Member of the Year at the annual Southwest District Meeting in October 2003.
Suzy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bill Rogers of Austin; her brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Betty Capen of Georgetown; sister-in-law Virginia ("Johnnie") Jones of Houston; sister-in-law Beverly Jones of Harlingen; five nieces and nephews; and many cousins, including her "twin" Martha Hancock of Irving who was like a sister. Also surviving are five step-grandchildren and their spouses and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, March 25, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 520 S. Illinois in Weslaco. The Rev. Myron Ricketts, Pastor of First United Methodist Church in Weslaco will officiate the service.

Conrado Cortez
RAYMONDVILLE, TX — Conrado Cortez, 21, passed away Monday, March 22, 2004. He was born November 13, 1982 in Freeport, Texas to Albertico & Rosa (Ramirez) Cortez.
Conrado is survived by his parents and two brothers Aaron "Alma" Cortez of Raymondville, Albertico "Esther" Cortez Jr. of Clute, Tx.; one sister Becky Cortez of Raymondville; three nieces Ashley Cortez, Eryn Cortez, and Allix Rae Cortez.
A prayer service was held yesterday at the Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel, and Graveside services will be held today Thursday, March 25, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Guadalupe Cemetery in Sebastian, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Arturo Chamberlin, Mathew Betancourt, David Cortez, R.J. Lopez, J.J. Garza, and Mario Guerra.

Esperanza G. Valdez
SANTA ROSA, TX — Esperanza G. Valdez, 95, entered into rest on Wednesday at her residence. Mrs. Valdez was a longtime resident of Santa Rosa.
She is preceded in death by her husband Manuel Valdez.
She is survived by her loving children: daughter Esmeralda (Francisco) Perez of San Benito, TX., sons Guillermo (Paula) Valdez of Harlingen, TX, Ricardo (Joaquina) Valdez of Santa Rosa, TX, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, March 25, 2004 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with the Holy Rosary to be prayed at 7:00 PM.

PRIMERA/SANTA ROSA — Jose "Weinne" Guerra age 84, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning at Harlingen Medical Center.
He had been a resident of Santa Rosa but had resided in Primera for the past 8 years with a niece Amanda (Marco) Villarreal and family.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Emilio Guerra, Adan Guerra 3 sisters: Rosa Leal, Eva Guerra and Lupe Garza 3 half brothers Jose Maria Guerra, Antonio Guerra and Poncho Guerra. He is survived by Billy Guerra, Elvia Wilson, Oscar Guerra and Ramiro Guerra and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to everyone at Sun Valley Adult Daycare because Tio Wienne loved the center and loved to dance.
Visitation today from 1:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at The Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Trinity Funeral Chapel. A chapel service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday.

Frank W. Lewis
EDCOUCH, TX Frank W. Lewis, 84, passed away Monday, March 22, 2004 in McAllen Heart Hospital in McAllen, TX. He was born December 6, 1919 in Dayton, Texas to Ernest Edward & Minnie Louise (Fries) Lewis. Mr. Lewis, retired from the Air Force, member of the mason and warden for the Delta Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Elizabeth Lewis of Edcouch; one daughter, Debbie Ruth Pierce (Mark Gomez) of Wimberley, TX and one son, Marshall Eugene (Rita) Lewis of Edcouch; one sister, Laurine Sullins of Magnolia; two grandsons, Sean Lewis and Evan Lewis Pierce and one granddaughter, Recina DeBoard. He is also survived by 3 great grandchildren.
Chapel service will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m., March 25th, at Duddlesten Funeral Home with Bro. Maurice McLeroy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery. military graveside service will be conducted by the Harlingen American Legion Post #205 and V.F.W. #2410 and the Raymondville American Legion Post #390 and V.F.W. #6719. LOS FRESNOS, TX — Sylvia Garcia Burlingame, 44, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 23, 2004, She was born March 22, 1960. Great daughter, mother and wife.
Mrs. Burlingame is survived by husband, David Burlingame; two sons, William Lee and David Daniel and their wife’s to be, Jackie and Jennifer; three daughters, Veronica (Eddie) Pena, Jeanette and Jennifer; grandchildren Sierra and Christian. She is also survived by her parents, Ramiro and Flor Estella Garcia; mother-in-law, Beatrice Burlingame as well as sister, Otilia, Norma, Duelsa, Janie and Olaya; brothers, Ramiro Jr., Eliseo, Ricardo, Rolando; brother-in-law, Raul; sisters-in-law, Sonya and Carmen and many nieces and nephews. She had an all time best friend, almost sister like, Rose.

BROWNSVILLE, TX — Malachi Gabriel James 25, entered into rest Thursday, March 25, 2004 in Brownsville, Tx.
He is survived by his mother, Maria James of Harlingen; father, David James of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother, Frazier Nelson James of Harlingen; paternal grandmother, Nettie Jo James of Dallas; maternal grandmother, Maria Martinez of Harlingen; sisters, Heather James of Las Vegas and Stephanie James of Fort Worth; nephews; Raymond James of Harlingen and Anthony James of Las Vegas.
He is also survived by his favorite aunt, Benita Martinez and aunt, Esther Perez both of Harlingen and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Malachi was fun loving and loved animals and the ocean, he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2004 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm and a Holy Rosary will be at 7:00 pm at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Angels.
Funeral services will conclude at the funeral home.
